I actually did! I bought it because you said it was good, a 5 lb maul is kinda light and the fiskars 8 lb is core maul is for emergency use only. The Adler split a dry twisted pine round and sent pieced flying. It's steel is German, American Hickory and a leather cover that's from Spain. It's price is nice and my son will love one so he's getting one for Christmas! Thanks for doing a review on this thing, oh that profile kinda looks familiar ...
You had to make a video on this! I just bought a council tool fallers axe for splitting and the reissue forest service axe for hanging on the wall. I think my axe buying will be put on hold till after the holidays but it gives me something to think about. Your goats sure love to photo bomb!

Oh Snap! It’s the Official Video! I’m glad I caught this😆 I would love to buy the head only then throw a 32/36” handle on it. Because, like you said, 6lbs is the perfect weight for a maul. But if you split Elm, or really large diameter rounds, that little extra leverage comes in handy.
I’ve honestly thought the same Thing, there are many axes in production nowadays that I would love to buy un Hung, so that I could really customize and bomb proof my setups, although I’ve thought about it, I just can’t bring myself to cut the handle off of a brand new axe regardless of if I’m not super happy with the length, overall fit and finish or the design. Just feels like a guy should wait and get as much usage as possible out of a handle. The Stihl (oschenkof) line of Axes have this inherit fault, I’m not super In love with the handles, but I’m kinda afraid to dismantle the bomb proof mounting system that the splitting axe uses... it needs a longer handle IMHO, but that hasn’t stopped me from splitting 15+ cords with it since I bought it.
Awesome! I’m a big fan of mine as well. Ash is a really good fire wood. Splits easy enough and produces decent BTUs. Ive also found some insanely difficult ash to split, but for the most part, it’s great.
Anybody know why the Garrett Wade version of this is so much cheaper? I like the look of their handle better. I like the smooth wood with a swell to grip better than that grip coating on the Adler. Either way, I really want to get my hands on one.
I have a Helko Werk Saxon with a 31” handle. Appears to be virtually identical and it is a splitting BEAST. Down here in VA we have a lot of gnarly read oak and that thing powers right through it. Gave me about as much workout as it’s giving you.
I looked at the forging marks on the heads and they are virtually identical. Same steel and hardness, same shaped eye and hung on the handle the same. I guess it's just a matter of what handle design you like and if you want to pay about $50 more for virtually the same tool. The Adler is definitely the better deal given its less expensive and comes with the overstrike guard. Awesome to see someone else enjoying the tool. This head design has next to zero videos or reviews. Thanks for putting it up.

Looks like a winner. I've found the Bison splitting axe I got from Kevin (Disobedience) to be a wonderful tool also. I never seem to have "easy" wood to split... yeah, the occasional ash still finds it's way home but this year it was mostly big maple and big oak that I had to noodle first just to move it (no hydraulics here). It is satisfying to bust the big wood down with the Bison but there are limits. Unfortunately there are a lot of knots and limb stubs the confound the splitting. Those knots leave me reaching for the steel wedge and 8 lb. sledge a lot more often than I'd prefer.
Nice job! I remember in 76 I used to get out of school early if I wanted to split for Dad and my brother in law when they sold firewood. Oh, how I wish I could go back there. I burned up until 10 years ago, and I split everything with a maul and I decided to try a hydraulic splitter once, it took the fun and exercise out of the job so yeah I sold it before the ink dried on m receipt 😂

I have yet to find a better wood splitter than the vintage 6lb Stanley maul I hung, it's got a profile like the wood bullet, and a single bit eye, so i put it on a 36" bent hickory axe handle. Such an amazing tool, I hesitate to even call it a maul because it really feels like a heavy yet easy to control axe in your hands. Try it sometime, if you break that one, put a bent 32-36" on there, it'll blow your mind.

I would say this out performs the x27. It's a much wider profile. The down side would be, it won't take the abuse a fiskars will. Not a deal breaker, just have to know the limitations of the tool.

I really like the profile, very similar to my Stihl Splitting axe, I split most of my wood with my old double bit or something similar just for kicks, but the Stihl Pro Splitting axe comes out if I get into anything real nasty. The Adler looks perfectly serviceable although I’d have to strip the handle and give it the toast and linseed oil treatment as the factory plasticy finish that they always come with is the bane of my existence lol 🌲🪓

Mr. Killinger, I was going to ask you what you like better the Adler or the Fiskars, lol! Its kind of an unfair question, the Adler is a splitting axe and the Fiskars Isocore is a maul. You were thinking the same thing, I was though! The Fiskars Isocore 8lb maul is wonderful and I purchased mine in October for 60 dollars after tax on Amazon. Indiana Doug paid 90 dollars for his but it will pay for itself in literally weeks. I love my axes don't get me wrong but for 150 dollars, I'll sit this one out. I'm a bit frugal, haha!
I'm still on the fence as to which I like better. That's a tough one. They both perform very well but the 2lbs less is a pleasure to swing. Also, I like wood handles. Fir the money, the iso core is hard to beat. If I could only have 1, I would have the iso core. That extra weight can be needed. Better safe than sorry.
That's a nice tool. It's a pity that you don't use some kind of back-up block to stop it from going into the ground and damaging the blade, which is going to happen sooner rather than later. You seem to be very keen to get some Elm. Be careful what you wish for! P.S. You're not afraid of work.

I'm such a dork, I've been working out with a 20lb sledgehammer for months. I swing that thing around like its nothing now... Which made me go searching for a giant splitting maul and axe... Meh, might just get some decent wedges and blast through things with that 20lb sledgehammer. And get a bigger hammer...
If you have difficulty splitting ash, check to see if it's actually elm! A neighbor complained about his ash being difficult to split I took a look and sur-nuf it was elm.
Any 6 lb. Axe is going to split any wood,,,,,try a piece of hickory or a twisted beach that will give you a work out , ,, I've did it for over 25 years ,,,for home heat in the winter time!!!! And also ash is the easiest wood to split ,,,,,its all straight grain wood,,,,,,,so that said its all about technic!!!! 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉

36 inch haft length was made standard ax size when the average chopper was 5 foot 6 inches tall. Anything shorter than 40 inches is too short for a 6 foot person. Lately I have been using standard length haft to make videos so people who don't have custom made hafts for their tools can relate better. But otherwise I use longer hafts. The short handles on some splitting tools increase the chances of a miss lick or bust through hitting a leg. Especially when the rounds are on a tall block.
@@KillingerUSA The knees must be bend when u use a heavy maul on big rounds. It will protect your back. When you are using an splitting axe u need acceleration and a higher suport block. The key with a splitting axe is to keep your back straight. For that u need a long handle .

The Adler is a good splitter but not quite as good as the gransfor bruks also I don’t care how good the splitter is it all depends on the species grain orientation plays a big part just my opinion
Your not wrong on the grain and species. I have the GB large splitting axe and hands down the adler will out split it. As it should. It's twice as heavy the twice as wide in the bit. With that being said, the GB us my favorite go to. Most days I take both. I get as much as I can with the GB and use the Adler to get what the GB didn't. Which is not much.

I have seem to have had bad luck with ash here lately. I miss splitting it with my 3lb Jersey! Most of the stuff I'm doing now had been nasty.

Stacking logs is an unnecessary extra step. Just split them in place. Give it a try some time.
