You’ve probably heard this 1000 times, but (a) I *love* the Fiskars X27, *BUT* (b) the Husqvarna S2800, IMO, is even *better*. Not only does it split better (esp for a 28” handle), but it’s built stronger and the head holds up better, even when I mess up and hit something I’m not supposed to. And the composite handle on the S2800 feels better for me. Just my $0.02 - love your channel!
I have a Husqvarna S2800 and a Fiskars X21. Love using the light X21 for chopping continiously. Nuttier wood I swtich to the S2800. In only a couple of cases I use a wedge and sledgehammer.
Chris, i have an X-27 and a X-7 hatchet along with a 28 inch hookeroon and a 17 inch hookeroon. the 28 inch broke about 2 inches off the tip. i contacted FISKARS and they said take a picture and send it to them. a month later, i had a new hookeroon. loved the video you and Tony did on FISKARS months ago. didn't know they had a chopping ax. thanks for sharing.
I love Fiskars products, their classic scissors - for the kitchen or everywhere else - work superbly, the best scissors I've ever had. I also have the X25 for splitting and a X7 to put in my backpack along with the little saw SW73.
G’morning Chris, Hello Fellow Firewood Fanatics. I love my Fiskars X27 fer da same reasons you so elegantly ‘splained. Thanks for all you do. GoodNightIrene
Hi Chris I’ve been using fiskars for around 19 years I have broken a couple of them early on ,I think they improve them I still continue to buy and use them as I think they are awesome . Great video mate 👍
Entertaining stuff! I too have a number of high end Swedish and German axes, but when I need to get WORK done, I leave those hanging in the workshop and grab one of my Fiskars.
I have been using the x27 for a few years now and really like it. This past weekend though I tried the Milwaukee 26” splitting axe and I have to say I like the Milwaukee better. It has a little more mass and seems to help with knotty pieces. Recommended giving one a try if you get the chance. As you said, more is the answer. Looking up the chopping axe now...
Fiskars makes great tools, I have the hook-a-roon or pick a roon as some may call it, and recently picked up a X25 for all the reasons you mentioned Chris. Good Night Irene. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice looking fiskar axes. I seen one in a store yesterday 1 hour away from where I live and the price for one was 87 dollars. Probably 3 feet long. Didn't look to see if it was a x25 or x27 but it was one of them. Thanks for another good video. Take care.
Good morning Chris!!😀😀 Love my Fiskars axes!!👍👍 They were my go to axes for as long as they have been available in our area. Take care buddy!!😀😀💚💚 Logger Al
Yup, all I use for the last 6-7 years. Started out with those big box store axes and quickly realized they weren't up to the task. Watch your shoulders, tore my left rotor cuff last Christmas time and then the tendon snapped after the Cortisone shot.
Not that it will make or break your day; but I am in complete agreement regarding Fiskars. I have the 6lb and 8lb mauls; and the X- 27, 25, '21', 17, 11, and my only axe, (hatchet), the X7. So I guess I like 'em ok.
I am a blacksmith, and I love fiskars hammers. I wear the handles out in about 12 months. (I wear the soft grip down) I tried replacing the fiskars handle with a wood handle, it was crap. Ruined the hammer. So I just buy a new hammer every 12 months or so. They are cheap as chips anyway, 50 bucks a throw in our local hardware stores.
I started with wood handles and was skeptical on the Fiskars as I have used composite handles because and didn't like them. I now have 3 of the Fiskars 2axes and 1 maul) and they feel equivalent to the wood handles. At least to me anyway. 😉👍
I used a cheap harbor freight maul and Axe last year to split all of my firewood. After seeing the x27 I bought one this year and wow the difference. Then I bought a log splitter so now I barely use the x27 but when I do it's so much easier then a maul.
The Fiskar axes are great. I would recommend a good pair of safety glasses, and keep your feet spread so if you miss the axe will go into the ground not your foot.
Love my Fiskars x27..hits heavy and does the job!! Its nice when you get fatigued, and do overstrike to know that only your hand will hurt, but not the axe haha, good video brother
I listed the 2 1/2lb one as the X21. It (yours), and mine are the black handled versions of the X21; which isn't marketed in the States. Amazon has the actual X21 for sale @73.44. It used to be 121.00; but the price has taken a big drop for some reason.
Hey, could you please tell me what you're recommend for going at some good sized in ground stumps, these are of green solid birch, probably the splitting axe is best for chipping away at the things, or is there something better suited for the job? Thanks!
@@InTheWoodyard I've grunted out tons of stumps by hand, a regular axe gets stuck all too often, I think one of these splitting axes might be a good choice, I need an axe anyways in case my electric log splitter goes kaput.
I might limb with it, but no way I'm cross cut chopping wood with that. They are a great splitter for easier rounds tho. For the big rounds I like the 6 lb maul they make. It won't wear you out as much as heavier ones and it gives you that extra mass compared to the splitting axes which really helps to bust up the big stuff.
Hard to beat the blade heavy X27 for splitting, for a wedge banger I prefer straight handled pole heavy of the rafting pattern. IMHO hard to design a hand tool that excels at both(jack of all trades master of none) when both tasks require the head to be weighted to the opposite side of the handle.
The thing that scares me with the wooden handled maul is that if you take a big swing and the head breaks the energy of the hit sometimes sends the head tumbling back at you had it happen once no major injuries or anything but made me leery of wooden handles maybe just my experience though 🤷🏻♂️
I'll say this as a x27 owner for years now I was sick of breaking handles.... I didn't buy one for years due to how ugly they are I'll still say they are ugly in my opinion but best axe I've ever owned
Axe FUN!!! Have you ever used the "double bit" axes? I think now that I watched your vid here, I am going to get a couple of Fiskars, I did not realize they had a lifetime warranty!!! Also did not realize that they were that old of a company!!!! (they must know something if they have been around that long)
Had fiskars over 20years and still works. Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
Nice tools for work that work!

You speak the truth about the fiskar. When you and Tony did the video about the x27. I ordered one and it splits like nothing ive ever used.
Yup, great tool!
Husqvarna S280 is great too
@@BadHorsie1 yup!
Thanks for the info. I did not read the fine print. Did not know about the warranty.
Love the sheath. Love the products.

It was very likely the x27
I am a Fiskars fan boy. I love their products.

That is a pretty common story on what people do for splitting !

Hi Chris yes thy are good very nice to work ( Ty Ron
Yup, they work well.
The fiskars hookaroon is great for picking up rounds.

Very nice axes and splitters. Looks like the splitters don’t get stuck in the wood splitting.

What would be better for more of a hatchet size, the splitting head or the chopping one.
These are both medium size tools, hatchets are smaller. bot the chopping axe would work best.
Hey, could you please tell me what you're recommend for going at some good sized in ground stumps, these are of green solid birch, probably the splitting axe is best for chipping away at the things, or is there something better suited for the job? Thanks!
Any axe along with determination can do it ...but a stump grinder would be easier and faster!

Was it 90 degrees and humid when you split and chopped? GNI
I know it was warm...maybe 80s??
I’m yet to see the chopping axe here in oz I have the splitting axe x 27
nice tools!
"Little bite at a time is the way to eat an elephant" 😂😂

And you are wrong about the pronunciation we are American and thus we speak American it's "fisk-ers" not "fis-cars"
Maybe for you but in the country they are made it is Fis-cars.
Bought the X27 great price $$! I don't worry about breaking it or is I loosing it ...
yup, they work!
