    Atleast where you live there is no bears, wolves or cougars (mountain lions) to worry about. Here on Vancouver island in Western Canada you would be freaked by the number of mt lions around at night in the bush.

    I like that you showed what those particular "night vision" glasses actually do. That loss of depth perception is a big deal though if you are doing any kind of work where you could hurt yourself by accident: setting up camp, making hot food, etc. I am glad you left the footage from the goggles in so we can see what it looks like. Awesome that they have the ability to record. Will look forward to your exploration of this. Glad you're well enough to camp again.

      @mr.not.so.perfect.666 Год назад +28

      The person in the video is using digital night vision though, proper night vision that uses a proper tube is fine, I've got 2 NV monoculars and have worn both for 100's of hours and not had a single issue with regards to how I see colours, they said the same about VR usage too and that's been debunked.
      The biggest issue with digital night vision is the refresh rate of the monitor inside the eyepiece, too low a refresh rate and you will get headaches after a while, same as if you used a 50hz monitor to play video games.
      Also proper night vision that uses a tube can have what is called auto gating, what that does in high light environments it adjusts the image through the eyepiece extremely quickly, 100th's or 1000th's of a second, this is why top level tubes used in monoculars like the PVS-14 as used by Spec OP's etc have auto gating that is so good at dimming the image in high light areas that they can almost be used in daylight.
      Even my Gen 2+ tube has auto gating, so it dims the image when anything like matches, sparks, flashlights, the moon, flares or anything else that would destroy a normal tube or blind a person wearing digital night vision, its not infallible though, even those auto gated tubes can be damaged if the bright source is strong enough or the tube is exposed for too long.

    • @lirkkam
      @lirkkam Год назад +10

      Ahh no. I don't know if analog nightvision has potential dangers, since I am no expert, but I don't belive to have heared of nightvisiongoggles causing eyeinjury. But I am quite confident in saying that digital nightvision (which this is) cannot hurt you more than looking at any other LED screen such as your monitor or mobile phone. Since you are essentialy looking trough a screen. The experienced discomfort can stem from Motionsicknes, which is caused by the unfamiliar perspective (field of view) and/or the delay in processing. So when you move, the digital sensor needs some miliseconds to process the image and then some more to display those. This disconnect between onset of movement and the display of it leads quite often to motion sickness and is a common problem in VR googles too. The only possible unhealthy thing you could do is to look at bright lights. But this is in the digital case the same as looking suddenly at a too bright phone at 2am when trying to see the current time. :) Sorry for any typos and grammatical errors, since english is not my native language.
      Cheers

      If this unit has an IR illuminator and you have it turned on, it would basically look like someone walking around with a flashlight/spotlight (depending on how strong the IR illuminator is and what generation the other set of NVGs are) to other people in NVGs (military or otherwise). If not, they wouldn't really put off any ambient light outside of the light the screen puts out. The main difference between military and these kinds of NVGs are that military units tend to be analog image intensifiers and these units are digital (basically a digital camera with a toggle-able IR filter or the IR filter removed entirely). Hopefully that makes sense.

You asked for the yummyyummy „swedish meatballs“: they are named „Köttbullar“ and are made of minced meat (best one is Elk!) with slightly oriental herbs. The myth is, that the swedish king Karl was trapped by Osmans and brought the „Köfte“ to Sweden. But they were well known before his „royal holidays“ - maybe without the oriental touch… Stay on healthy and thumbs up! Ole

    That was good footage with the night vision. Maybe next time bring some meat and distribute it20 or 30 meters from your camp and see if foxes or badgers come for it.
    You should get a tiny little battery powered inflator because using your breath puts moisture into the pad interior which will grow mould as it is stored, and they can also blow air into the camp fire if you happen to be struggling with damp wood or whatever

    2 dl breadcrumbs
    2 eggs

    2 tbsp broth of anchovies
    4 tbsp of concentrated veal broth
    2 tbsp Kikkoman soy
    butter for frying
    salt pepper
    Mix the "cream milk", breadcrumbs, eggs and water into a loose batter.
    Set aside to swell for a while
    Peel the onion
    Grate one of the onions
    Finely chop the other
    Mix all ingredients quickly in a bowl to a batter.
    Add salt and pepper

    The image is better, they work under much lower light without a IR illuminator, in fact you want to not broadcast IR light in conflict zones so. Also, the image is instantly updated so no nausea.

    Mate, you do cook some delicious food on your camps, very rarely do I see you with an adventure-type meal.
    Loving the Snugpak Stratosphere mate, I'm starting a new series off where something like this will really come in. Is there room to store gear in it? I saw you kept your boots out so was thinking it might be tight fitting.
    Mike, that was ace, a bushcraft camp build using that would be fantastic. It would allow you to keep working into the darker hours without being seen. Looking forward to watching what you come up with pal.

    I have some military surplus Nogs that are outdated somewhat. They work great but are heavier and bulkier than the current crop with elss eye protection. But for $100, beggars can't be choosers.

    If you sink your foldable stove into the ground, or shield it with upright slabs of rock your flames would be even more stealthy from a distance.

    No saying for hunting, but you could try a IR hunting scope. Or spotters device.

      I don’t think Sasquatch lives on the British Isles. Mike should come camping in Appalachia! Sasquatch, bears, wolves, cougars, porcupines, lots of opportunities for wildlife up close!

    So as a guess would be, a 200$ infrared night vision goggles. For the most part it must have the IR light to work. If any one else has night vision your IR light will look like a flood light for them to find you. Their cool for sure. Try a FLIR thermal scope. the cheep one's which are not bad but will cost about 500$. You will see much better.

      not really, it doesnt show you objects but temp variance there are temperatures where that wont give you enough variances for differentiation between objects. but they will give you some info even with no light or projected light.
