Thank you for reviewing these two lovely guitars but, “ maybe these are the guitars for you if all you want is to play a few chords and sing over them??” WT? !!Have you ever heard of Kenneth Pattengale? He plays an old 00-15M and masterfully torches the fretboard with nuanced picking and mind blowing runs,..all while singing in harmony. I am grateful for both of you, yet you trotted them once around the track and headed them back into the stable without even breaking a sweat on them. The spruce tops are an extra grand so that affects one’s decisions as well. Folks purchase the mahogany for lots of reasons, the best description I have heard is that they sound as if they have an natural compression, sustain and unique sweetness. My 000-15SM sounds like it’s coming through a mixing board right there picking in the kitchen, outstanding! Put some great guitar playing into these hogs and you’ll hear an incredible guitar for your money.

I found putting 80/20’s on all-mahogany guitars bring out some brightness. If you put phosphor bronze it will make the guitar more subdued, which some players may like.

I play a 1970 D-41. I also am a sound man, so I know how to get the most from an acoustic guitar. If people want to plug the guitar into the pa or an amp, I recommend the K&K Pure Westen Mini. It should be installed by a good luthier. The 000-15m seems to have more projection, due to the body size. The 0015m has a far more mellow sound. Both are fine instruments at a price point that is, yes, an investment. Part of the reason they sound so good comes from Martin workmanship, including a very light finish. The bone nut and saddle are a major plus. When the guitar is properly set up, these 2 items are very important. Again, the setup should be done by a reputable luthier/guitar repairman. Martin sends their guitars out neutrally set up. It's up to the buyer to have the guitar set up for their style of playing. I've been play Martins since 1961. I even played an original 00015m that was made in the 1930s. It played well and projected sound across the room. I'm looking for a 000 size guitar with a cutaway. They are hard to find! 00015m doesn't have a cutaway, but, it would satisfy my need for a smaller bodied guitar. Play on, folks!
Never played a 00 but single 0 (custom) I gotta holler over if I'm really diggin into it (it sounds so good that way tho) with no mic, it's perfect tho. I see 00 as a great all around guitar the best of the hog tops for soft happy playing (maybe best of any top, season to taste), 000 a thumpy blues monster, 000 12 fret even thumpier
My only complaint about these models is the 1 11/16 nut. I would much prefer the 1 3/4 nut, but to get that on an all solid genuine Honduran Mahogany Martin, one needs to purchase the Retro E series, or one of the more expensive series such as the Authentic Series etc. oh well. It will not stop my purchase of the 00-15M, as I will just tune down to D and then capo a 2nd fret, but still, I would just prefer a 1 3/4 to start with... lol

IMPORTANT NOTE: The lower bout is noticeably larger on the 000. This means you'll need to have your right arm a bit higher AND a little more pressure from the bout edge will push into your tricep area. Sounds like a small matter, but the 00 is quite a bit more comfortable with its smaller bout...ESPECIALLY if you're a fingerstyle player. I owned a pair of 000-15M's and switched over to the 00-15M's. Waaaay more comfortable, and I can play much longer because of the gentler arm position. Try them both!
I have a 000-15m and love it. However, be aware that, in contrast to the comment in the video, this a long scale (25.4 inch for Martin) guitar. This reflects some understandable confusion in the Martin line as the 000s are generally short scale (24.9 inch). The OMs which shares the same body dimensions are generally long scale. Why Martin chose not to call the 000-15m an OM-15 is unclear, but this is a great sounding guitar with excellent playability nonetheless.
Martin certainly have mixed up the designation of model number to scale length across the entire range now. In many models, it seems to stick close to old norms that are meant to separate the 0, 00, 000 series and the OM series, and then ignores it completely for other models.. I am yet to decipher a definitive reason for it too.

@@nellatrab I respectfully disagree. In the right hands, the 00 is excellent for picking, flat-picking and strumming without being at all boomy. A truly amazing guitar.
I went in to the store sure I was walking out with the 000. After paying them both side by side I went with the 00. It had a richer warmer sound to it than the 000. Could have been the day, the specific guitars, or was in my ears, but that’s what I did and I have no regrets. I like the smaller body as well. I have two dreadnaughts and wanted something smaller to bang around.
here's the thing though - the mahogany certainly mellows as a top-wood, but because of the nature of the thinner guitars, they would be a bright sounding box (geometrically) to begin with, almost TOO bright. The mahogany is the perfect wood for a 000 in my opinion, because it enhances the brightness that the dimensions are already working with, but mellows any harshness. It's such a smooth guitar, I just bought one to be a companion to my Martin D-18 which is my favorite guitar. I've been eyeing the 000-15M for years and always felt it was a top 3 Martin guitar in their entire lineup. I still think that!
Are you sure about the scale length of these guitars, because I just ordered a 00-15m and that one doesn’t have a shorter scale length. Martin’s own website says it’s 25.4” on both the 000-15m and the 00-15m. I have to say that I always thought these guitars had a shorter scale length (24.9”), just like 00’s and 000’s and most probably the 0’s of the 18 and 28 series. I only found out last night. So basically the 000-15m should have been named the OM-15m or whatever. And I have no idea what they should name the 00-15m, hahaha… Those people at Martin don’t make it easy for us. Anyway, both of these guitars have a full scale neck.
I had the 000-15(before they added the M) for a couple of years but ended up getting a 00-15m too(a great deal I couldn't pass up). I also had a Guild GADm20 at the time (made in China, I know...) at the time. I decided on the 00-15m, sold the 000-15 and the Guild, and have now had the 00-15m for about 5 years. I play fingerstyle. You can't go wrong with either, but I prefer the 00. A bit sharper, with better clarity, and just a brilliant guitar all around for fingerstyle playing. I'm sure I will keep it for as long as I can play. I do have to say, I actually kind of miss the little Guild. I haven't played the California-made M20, but the little Chinese Guild was surprisingly nice sounding, kind of old-timey boxy sounding but not in a bad way, bright and surprisingly loud for an "0" sized guitar, and very well made. It did have that "too thick" gloss finish, but I have to say it was a pretty little guitar. As I recall, Grover tuners, bone nut/saddle, hard-shell tweed case. (I think the later ones stopped using both, Grovers/bone). For the money, and if you aren't looking to spend over $1000, I think the Chinese Guild is a pretty good option. I think I sold mine for $400 or so, think they have crept up a bit lately. ((Keep in mind the USA Guild has the 1 3/4" nut, whereas the Chinese Guild was 1 11/16", like the Martin 00 and 00015's. ))

I was ready to sell my 00-15 e retro... .then I put some Dragon skins on it and decided to keep it! Strings make a BIG difference on small body guitars...
Guild-M20 have more bass and less brightness. it has this old school punchy Mississippi blues sound to it(which is great if that is your thing). 0/00-15M is much brighter with a bigger sound range. and if that is your main guitar and your not like a collector that has a guitar for each style, then i would get the martin. that is just my opinion.
@@chapasproject You're correct. Tried 00-15 & the Guild M-20. Both are great sounding guitars and I favor/own Martins, however, ended up with the Guild M-20 for the little more bass , old school sound. Can't go wrong with any one of these guitars....all nice !
Shorter scale length? Lol the 00 and 000 both have the 25.5 standard scale length, which in any other series ie 18 & 28 would make the "00015m" & the "00015sm", om's but they're both the same size, om's just have longer scale lengths really just change the pickguard to a teardrop and you have a proper orchestra model lol
I think they both sound completely different at the end . I understand they are going to sound different but it was almost too different . @@IndigoJoThe 000 has a shorter scale length, at 24.9”. The OM has a 25.4” scale length. Anything less than 24.75”, which is what Gibson J-45s have, is considered “short scale.”

@@nellatrab I respectfully disagree. In the right hands, the 00 is excellent for picking, flat-picking and strumming without being at all boomy. A truly amazing guitar.
Guys, you don't start playing till 4:30 in 5:30 video and then you don't differentiate between which guitar is being played with a screen graphic.
You can see the two guitars clear as day.
@@afterstars Not sure what the weather is like where you live but the guitars look identical.
Were both guitars' strings equally aged/played - the 000 sounds like newer strings to my ear.
I now have both these guitars. The 00 is a bit brighter but they are very similar. Perhaps the 000 is a bit bluesier.
Interesting. Which one would you let go of first, if you had to, and which d'you tend to play more?
Thanks.
Not the shorter scale length; 00-15s and 000-15s have the same scale length as OMs.
Which guitar does the side by side begin with? They look so similar I could not tell the difference
Why do these guys always cut each other off 🤣
they are dating
@@soofitnsexy i fnd they are all talk, therefore most demos are not that great for best information
Love these guitars. Also appreciated the subtle Austin Powers quote from Quinton
here's the thing though - the mahogany certainly mellows as a top-wood, but because of the nature of the thinner guitars, they would be a bright sounding box (geometrically) to begin with, almost TOO bright.
And I have no idea what they should name the 00-15m, hahaha…
Those people at Martin don’t make it easy for us. Anyway, both of these guitars have a full scale neck.
You are correct, both of these guitars have a long scale. Not historically correct but.....
Sounds like the 000 had newer strings. Could that be the source of the difference in brightness? Thanks for your video, lovely work as always.
i dont think so
Shiney Scales 33 is right...the 000 is projective, resonate and focused, it has that dry smooth punch...not glassy like spruce tops...my favorite!
((Keep in mind the USA Guild has the 1 3/4" nut, whereas the Chinese Guild was 1 11/16", like the Martin 00 and 00015's. ))
00 works good for fingerplucking, not as well as the 000 for strummy flatpicking stuff.
Which guitar was which at the end?
I'm certainlynot picky!!!! Either or for me. Mohogany is great but Sapelle works on my Road Series DRS1
I love watching guitar reviews and this channel is awesome but I always notice how quinton always talks over the other guy. Likely unintentional, but still ehh. Glad you guys sort of spoke on this in this review. I was literally thinking of it right before you brought it up. Lol anyways nice review fellas. Love Martin guitars!!
Its kinda hard determining which one is which since they didn't put any label/caption on the video. lol
Is the size difference between the two obvious? Is it better getting a 00?
why wouldn't you say which is which in the end while playing?
I was ready to sell my 00-15 e retro... .then I put some Dragon skins on it and decided to keep it! Strings make a BIG difference on small body guitars...
On mahogany guitars too :)
I'd say get the 000-15m if it's your only guitar. otherwise get the 00-15m and a om-28 or 000-28.
Why?
Nice review guys!
I'm looking for a comparison between Martin 00-15, or 0-15 vs Guild-M20 these are good alternatives I think.
I too bought an m20, great tone. Only complaint is I get some string buzz if I play low e string too hard
Thank you guys
Which one gets played first at the end of the video?
Love your reviews and the playing. However, you guys talk over each other way too much. Would like to hear each of you complete your thoughts.
You mention that one has a smaller scale length. What is the one with the smaller scale length please?
These both have the longer 25.4" scale.... the spruce top versions of these guitars (00-18 and 000-18) feature the 24.9" scale.
Gostei mais do 000-15M. Muito bom este video.
The tone should match my tone y my enjoyment of hearing the guitars’ dynamics…it make me happy even on pianos’ solid wood made duh y sizes
Mohogany Martin best guitar for the blues! Better than L 00 Gibson in my opinion and taste. Prefer 00 15 that the 000 15. Love small guitar
I think they both sound completely different at the end . I understand they are going to sound different but it was almost too different . Makes me think the strings are different or maybe one new and one old . More playing would be great as far as comparison . Maybe an overlapping look at them . I am armchair quarterbacking here haha . With that said, you gentlemen did fantastic , thank you!
Trying to decide on Martins 00-X2E or the 000-X2E ! Help haha !
Paul Walden
000 have more bass
@@powbobs bigger
"You're a guitar player so you only care about yourself..." Haha... that was a great remark! Very nice video! At 1:02 you mention "shorter scale lenght". The Martin website says the 000-15M is 25.4". Was that a mistake or do you really consider 25.4" a short scale?.
They both have the 25.4" scale length -- same scale length as the OM and Dreadnought.
If I m right they are models having a 23" scale
@@IndigoJoThe 000 has a shorter scale length, at 24.9”. The OM has a 25.4” scale length. Anything less than 24.75”, which is what Gibson J-45s have, is considered “short scale.”
@@augustinsigrist9519 Shh, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
That particular 000 isnt short scale and its a shame
Please guys...(and I hope I don't sound like the proverbial broken record) a bit less talking and more demonstrating. And please, offer some serious personal opinions.
There are two ways to pick between these: flip a coin or whichever is in stock. Otherwise it's impossible 🙌
There's no need to stop playing while he talks.
TELL PAUL TO SHUT UP:) "A LITTLE LESS TALK AND A LOT MORE ACTION" TOBY SAYS THANKS LOVE IT. HEY PAUL I USED TO BE THAT WAY I AM AN ALPHA ITALIAN MALE:) THIS IS NOT NEGATIVE IN ANY WAY. TWO GREAT GUITARS TWO GREAT MUSICIANS. SUGGESTION YOU MAY WANT TO PUT A SIGNATURE ID UP ON THE SCREEN VS FLASH BY. I AM A NOVICE AND CAN NOT DECIPHER SOME TIMES; I.E. "SIZE" MATTERS TONES ARE SO GREAT FOR BOTH. I WANT A MARTIN SO BADLY SO THINKING ABOUT ONE OF THESE TWO. THANKS AGAIN.
Why are you shouting?
Have both 000 and a Dreadnaught. Wonderful guitars
why are these “reviews” always such a mess? Way too much talking and in the final 30sec you didn’t even declared which guitar is which - just awful.
Love my 00-15m to learn songs on perfect couch guitar
Quinton is the feel, Paul is the specs. Louie is he ciment. Please,Guys, for so long, let Quinton play emand express himself. Paul, please take your time, take it easy, You dont have to cut everything Quinton is talking about. Please ! He plays, He feels, let him talk. Sorry Paul, but You're just a guitar passing man for Quinton. Sorry for my bad Montana writing, I'm just a french from Brittany
Starts demoing the guitars at the end without even saying which ones which.
It sounds like the oo is Warner than the 000.
WAY TOO MUCH yapping, not nearly enough playing to compare. Sorry guys, bring back Tony P.
Agree!
You both need equal time - as a fellow RUclipsr I'd say kind of plan or script it out. Nice job - both!
question tho these are not electro-acustic?
That is correct, there is no factory installed pickup on either of these guitars but a pickup can always be installed.
Pro tip, use a microphone instead of an electric acoustic. You pick up more of the unique characteristics of your guitar that way, imo
@@adriannasanchez468 yeah but in live situations when you got a full band with you...it is more convenient to have an electro type...
Two comments on this video - Firstly, I really wish the bloke in the hat would stop strumming when the other guy is talking. AND secondly when two guitars LOOK so similiar and you listen to them side by side - might we have some label tag on screen indicating as to which one we are lstening too?
Nice review. The 000-15sm should have been in this, though.
Blaine Mullins
Such a different guitar though.
Street master is not as nice
@@josiahscovel2553 The 000-15SM is NOT the Street Master. Its a 000 Slope Shouldered 12 fret mahogany guitar.
And its actually preferred by most hardcore Martin enthusiast.
00 is soul. 000 is power
best comment on every video regarding this or the other one i read so far.
Beautiful guitars great reviews ..like Quine to ..only bothered about the guitars brill 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tried 2 of them , one new , the other 2nd hand . Both were really thin , tinny sounding at least to my ears ( and one other customer) .Don't get the fuss .
Did not want to give that 000 15 m back 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anthony Roach
That was the 00-15M actually
I would like to support you but you need to re organise, so much chat & striking the strings with a pick its disapointing, sorry but happy new year
That video give me nothing it was talking basically about voices 🤷🤷
Too much talking and not enough playing. How about some finger picking or Travis picking style tunes? Just strumming doesn't cut it.
he cant play as good as us
Jesus christ is coming repent choose him today he loves you.
You guys talk more than you play sometimes. At least make it 50/50 please. I came to hear the guitars...not the talking so much.
less talk more playing...
Nice finger screeching!
more air and fullness in the 000 , the 00 too muted and tame, low projection!
You talk too much. Let’s hear the guitars !
4:31
Speak speak ......... 😅
Verbal diahrea
loved the Tony Polecastro reviews of yesteryear / sooo painful to watch this dude, (Paul) (who cant play guitar) constantly chime in on these vids #cringy. Leave the reviews to the guitar players and get off screen (Paul)...
Not only is there far too much yappity yapping, but Quentin never ever gives what one might call a personal opinion.
Perhaps the worst guitar review sight on RUclips. However, if they truly would like to, they could change that overnight.
Blablablabla
You guys loose people by talking too much. Point out the specs and differences and then play them. The non playing guy doesn’t need to be in here.
