Thanks for the great video. This is exactly the style of playing I wanted to hear from this guitar. A lot of other videos of this guitar feature mostly flat-picking or strumming. I don’t play with a pick, and it’s great to hear the nuances in dynamics in your playing. From individual note clarity to subtle percussive strumming, the mellow tone can be really balanced by right-hand technique. Great expressive playing, by the way. Now I just need to decide 00 or 000. (I already have a parlor size Gretsch, so I’m leaning towards 000 for variety, but this sounds like it’s right in the pocket for the tone I want.)
Thank you very much for your comment. I’m glad you found something you can relate to. It’s so important. I also try to find videos where the gear im interested in is played in a manner that is similar to what I play and like, otherwise it gets a little useless. I’d definitely go for the 000. I’ve recently bought me one of those, and oh boy it sings. And Martin apparently adjusted their prices down on them, great win! Take care bud
Played several new guitars back to back including new 000-18, 000-28 standards, Modern Deluxes, Custom Shops, a Southern Jumbo, a Collings, and a Taylor GA. All very nice. Then I played the 000-15m. 000-15M came home, easily the one that I liked the most.
Yeah I’ve got one of them 000-15’s as well, and it’s sounds amazing. It’s such an understated guitar with a beautiful organic tone, crisp, sweet and warm at the same time.
Hello Chris. First, I must tell you that you’re playing is very inspirational to me, and your guitar is absolutely beautiful. I had one of those not too long ago but I had to sell it because of financial difficulty at the time. But you have inspired me to get another one regardless of how long it takes. And my gosh, the price has gone up on those - when I got it it was about $1200 - they were up to $1500 and recently I’ve seen them for something like $1699. But I don’t care. I will be getting another one someday possibly because of your inspiration. I could listen to this video over and over. I have played the 000-15m, but I prefer 00-15m because of it’s size, and I am pretty much a 95% fingerstyle player. Take care Chris, and keep up the good work - I’ll be listening.
Very nice the way you have included different dynamics, techniques in your playing to show what the guitar can do. And no talking. The guitar speaks for itself. Ordered mine today. Just the sound for me.
I need to send my circa 1933 in to Martin to fix a number of issues. It was a beast to play in the late 70's. Crap, back then I didn't imagine me with this guitar when it's nearly 100 y.o.! A shop back in '77 estimated a better condition example was valued at 3000+ USD! Yes, I'm an idiot. Probably cost about $1000 to restore to playability. Considering inflation from when I put it away, maybe that's not as bad as it would seem.
Just found a used one - needed some love but it's becoming a fav for gigging now. Zero issues - just an honest satisfying sound and great playability. And a very doable 900.00 used. Win win. Great playing btw :)
Thanks Joe, I appreciate it. Can’t go wrong with a Martin, or Martins in your case :D Not gonna be my only one, but they are a bit pricey in EU, so I’m saving.
Beautiful music, Chris... so relaxing and enjoyable just listening to you play. Thank you for sharing. I called some local guitar shops today hoping to play and compare the 00-15m and 000-15m... nobody has the 00. I did get to try the 000-15SM at the most nearby shop. Didn't like the tuning pegs on that one. Also got to try a 00-28, so I know I like that size, and what gorgeous guitar that is, but I really want the sweet, rich, mellow sound that you so elegantly demonstrate here with the 00-15m. May just have to order it. Thanks again for the beautiful demonstration... gonna listen again now... love your music.
I just ordered a set of Kluson Prestige nickel open gear tuners with parchment buttons to complete the old style look. The OEM Grovers are heavier and either too delicate or slow to respond depending on which string. Hope to see how my upgrade works in a few days.
@@im58woody For what it's worth... I finally got my 00-M15 and it took about a month to get use to the tuners. Surprisingly, I don't even think about them anymore... just tune-up and play. Loving this guitar!
played one of these a bit back at a guitar center and was super impressed. I actually, despite not being in the market for one, helped the sales guy out and ended up bearing witness to someone else in the store buying it. the bass resonates through the back so well, it's a really nice instrument.
Nice dynamics and feel in your playing. Great finger picking technique. I must chuck those MA500T strings on my Martin 00-15m. Inspiring listening to you Chris! 🎸
After researching all forms of 00 & 000 Martins I was about to pull the trigger on a 000-18 but now i'm not so sure. This is the best 00-15M video I've seen.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it. If you are more a strummer I’d go for the triple-aught. This can definitely do it, but it compresses quickly when strumming hard. I’m generally a pretty soft player, and it sounds beautiful for that. The bigger brother (000-15) will sound somewhat fuller, but the added low end can imo be a bit too overwhelming - especially for recording purposes. Unfortunately I haven’t any experience with the 000-18, I’d love to play one though. It’s a different animal, and perhaps a bit more ‘alround’ compared to the 15 series. Great guitar hunting :-)
Such great playing, Like others have said, Your skills are exceptional. I noticed one for sale second hand near me and on my way to play it tomorrow. I recently let my Eastman E80m go and have been looking for a Martin to replace it for a few months and absolutely love the tones you are getting with the 15m. @@ChrisEffort I have tried the 000. I have played many guitars over the last 3 years. I remember the GEMS. The OO was a GEM. I don't remember the OOO playing too well. Actually, most Martins I've play were very average to be honest. Thats why the OOm burned into my brain so well because it played SO WELL. The day I played the OO, I played many guitars costing $5000 and above. The 00 costs 1350 US. It IS A STEAL AT THAT PRICE. But not for a 1 3/4 guy like me. I know, I've made that mistake more than once before... I have seen custom shop or limited production 000m guitars with 1 3/4 nuts, but not in the OOm guitars...
@@danherrick5785 Did you play the slope shoulder 12 fret version of the 000 too? It has a 1”3/4 nut width. But yeah I agree, there are dud guitars even from major brands. I have played Martin’s and Gibson’s that really didn’t live up to their heritage. Where I live we generally don’t have a lot of different guitars to choose from, so I’m relying primarily on online stores - but I do only use the ones that I trust will send me a guitar that meet my preferences. And until now I have only been more than satisfied. But yeah, optimally I’d test them before purchasing.
@@danherrick5785 And if you can find a 00L-17 it’s 1 3/4 as well. I have a video of that one too somewhere on my channel. Lovely guitar, but with a spruce top.
My dad keeps saying mahogany guitars sound horrible, and that "You need a spruce top!" Well I got to try Martin 000-15, and from the first second I saw it, I couldn't stop smiling. That was the best sounding guitar I've ever played, it fit me perfectly and it smelled really nice too. It was perfect. I love Martin guitars!!!
Lol You only need whatever resonates with you. Spruce? Mahogany? Doesn’t really matter as long as you vibe with it. I think you are absolutely right. Love my Martin 000-15 (video coming up soon). Best acoustic I ever had. It’s smells sooo great! Can’t deny that. Did you buy the 000-15?
Beautiful playing; especially the first thing you play. I’m considering selling my bass and amp to get one of these. Can’t decide between which I prefer, though: the 00 or 000.
Thanks Scott I’ve never tried a M-20, but I have heard they have a tendency of sounding a little more boxy compared to the 00-15. But again, your mileage may vary - if you have the opportunity to try first, that’d be awesome.
After hearing you play this guitar I’m buying one your playing and the guitar sounds amazing I need another guitar like a hole in the head but u know how it goes 😂😂thank u for the music great video cheer’s from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you Jeffery! Nope, but I have mentioned it in the comment section a few times. It’s EAC#EBE, it’s a beautiful tuning. Have fun with it :-) And merry Christmas
I'm looking at picking one of these up and this is the best video I've found on RUclips capturing how I'd like to play it. Your skill is impressive. If I wanted to learn to play like this, where would you recommend I start? Was that all standard tuning or did you have open tuning mixed in there? Thanks for any tips you can pass along, love your style. Oh and how would you say this compares to the 000? I know that one's a bit louder and more versatile but I just love how these sound (at least from the videos I've come across)
Thank you Gino. There is some open tunings in there as well. It’s not easy for me to recommend how to start, I’m self taught - so I think I should start over if I was actually taking lessons to clean up all my faulty techniques, haha - but I did spend a lot of time focusing on playing melodies instead of only chords, and I’ve always liked open tunings that makes it ‘easier’ to sound pretty. So perhaps start with DADGAD. The 000-15 won my heart - bigger sound, more low end which is personally find pleasing when being your ‘own’ orchestra. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you Tom! Oh yes I have, I love those strings. And they are very fairly priced. In fact, I only use Retros or the Martin treated strings on my Mahogany Martin’s.
Hearing this made my day. Love small body mahogany guitars. Especially my Martin 000-15. This one has a great tone. Make some moire videos playing that Martin.
Thank you. A buddy of mine has got the the 000-15. The differences are there. But I picked the 00 body, since it didn’t sound lesser than the 000. The bigger one sounds a bit more ‘full’ - but In my experience I found it sounding a bit too overwhelming. And the smaller 00 definitely doesn’t lack low end response in my experience. When ever it gets possible (hopefully soon) I’d suggest you try them side by side.
I literally ordered a 00-15m today. Judging by the sound of this video I think I made the right decision. I already have a J-45 and a D-28. I figured this would be the perfect next step to take and complete my collection of acoustics. 😬
Very nice playing I am saving up for one of these myself! From the angle of the camera I can only assume you are a blonde sasquatch that shaved his arms to make this video impressive!
I inherited a 1951 Martin 0-15, which seems to be all original. To say the least, unfortunately it hasn't had the best of care over its 70-year life---was never kept in a case, plus it's spent time with an uncle in a California prison. And it's obviously been played a lot (the frets closest to the headstock are deeply grooved by players who apparently only knew chords G, C and D, and maybe A). The mahogany body and neck are intact and the guitar is actually quite handsome: the top and pick guard look just like the ones in the video. However, it doesn't tune or play right. A local luthier/musical instrument repair guy told me that there are a number of serious issues with my guitar, and that restoration to playable condition would involve a lot of (expensive) work. I'm wondering if it would be worth doing? Any advice will be welcome.
Thanks for the wonderful story of the guitar. It’s hard to tell, perhaps it’ll need a new nut, a neck reset and probably a refret. Are you able to get a price estimation on the cost of repair before handing it over to a luthier? I mean, it sure is a really nice guitar with a great story.
Every single time I hear the 15 series I am reminded how good they sound. Exactly what a mahogany guitar should sound like in my opinion.
Chris, you should record an album of your tunes played on an 00015m. Seriously, I'd buy it in an instant!

I have seen custom shop or limited production 000m guitars
with 1 3/4 nuts, but not in the OOm guitars...
@@ChrisEffort Watch this 00-17...

My dad keeps saying mahogany guitars sound horrible, and that "You need a spruce top!"
Well I got to try Martin 000-15, and from the first second I saw it, I couldn't stop smiling.
That was the best sounding guitar I've ever played, it fit me perfectly and it smelled really nice too.
It was perfect. I love Martin guitars!!!
Lol
You only need whatever resonates with you. Spruce? Mahogany? Doesn’t really matter as long as you vibe with it.
I think you are absolutely right. Love my Martin 000-15 (video coming up soon). Best acoustic I ever had. It’s smells sooo great! Can’t deny that. Did you buy the 000-15?
@@ChrisEffort I'm saving up..... or just selling a kidney right now.
@@ChrisEffort Also, awesome job!!!! I saw your spotify, but I'm sad that there's only one song.
Thank you. Lovely playing, man.
great stuff
Stunning.
Bro that sounds so sweet and you played very well
Thank you so much .
Yes! Yes!Yes! Excellent truly beautiful!
Beautiful playing; especially the first thing you play. I’m considering selling my bass and amp to get one of these. Can’t decide between which I prefer, though: the 00 or 000.
Thanks Dan, I appreciate it man. I’d go for the 000. Video of that one is coming soon. You’ll get more versatility with the bigger body.
@@ChrisEffort thanks for the advice! Very excited to see your 000 video!
Love the sound of guitar, convinced on buying a 0015m martin
Did you? I'm sure thinking about it, too ...
Wow, love it 😍
amazing playing!! thanks for that :-)
Just subscribed, your worth it, love the 00-15
Thank you John, very kind of you
beautiful sounds.
Sounds great.
I am trying to decide between this or a Guild M-20.
Thanks Scott
I’ve never tried a M-20, but I have heard they have a tendency of sounding a little more boxy compared to the 00-15. But again, your mileage may vary - if you have the opportunity to try first, that’d be awesome.
Absolutely beuatiful, love your tunes! Which strings do you use?
Greetings from Hamburg!
Thanks so much sir, appreciate your kind words. I use Martin MA540T’s 12s or Martin Retro’s also 12s
After hearing you play this guitar I’m buying one your playing and the guitar sounds amazing I need another guitar like a hole in the head but u know how it goes 😂😂thank u for the music great video cheer’s from Ireland 🇮🇪
Nice playing Chris!
I've been saving up to buy one for the past six months and I hope I can afford one before the end of the year.
Hi Jan
Oh I know how it feels to wait, but it's so rewarding when you finally get what you really want.
Magnífico, bravo!!!!!
0:53 whats the name of this music ?
Awesome tunes!
Didn't you used to have the tuning posted?🤔
Thank you Jeffery! Nope, but I have mentioned it in the comment section a few times. It’s EAC#EBE, it’s a beautiful tuning. Have fun with it :-) And merry Christmas
Great guitar and it is my dream guitar 🤩
What a beauty! 😍
00 = Soul | 000 = Volume
Deciding between a 00-15 and a 00-18 - but these full mahagonys are always sending my brain into neverland ...
For sure.
As I’ve stated, I love your playing.
Have you tried the Martin MM12 nickel strings? Retro Acoustic.
They are awesome on the 000-15M.
Thank you Tom!
Oh yes I have, I love those strings. And they are very fairly priced.
In fact, I only use Retros or the Martin treated strings on my Mahogany Martin’s.
Yey〜👍so good acoustic guitar sound‼️ We love mahogany guitars🙋
Yup, mahogany guitars are sweet and warm.
Awesome instrument. I wonder what you thought of the 000-18. I find it hard to chose over the 15.
I would love to try a 000-18 again, it’s been many years since the last time I played one.
Hearing this made my day. Love small body mahogany guitars. Especially my Martin 000-15. This one has a great tone. Make some moire videos playing that Martin.
Thank you so much. You writing this comment made my day. I will do, most definitely.
Take care
I've been debating on whether to get the 00 or 000. I've been listening to a lot of demos. Great picking.
Yeah absolutely! It’s a super awesome guitar. And what a great collection you have.
Nice playing! Where can I get the TAB? Is it possible? From Japan.
Make album please ♥️🕊
Thank you James! I hope to in a not too far future.
Sounds incredible. Nice picking too. I'm looking at Martin 000-15M and the 000-18 which I love.
Excellent playing! How do you compare this to the Guild M20?
Thank you! I haven’t tried the Guild, but I really wouldn’t mind!
Very nice playing I am saving up for one of these myself!
From the angle of the camera I can only assume you are a blonde sasquatch that shaved his arms to make this video impressive!
Haha and you are absolutely right about your assumption. Thanks for the kind words.
