      Better have a lot of time to spare if you have many photos like me . Ive sent mine back when i realised it will take me 6 months to scan them. and the image quality is not good either. you get better results photographing the negative with your mobile which I found gave far better results and quicker.

    This is fantastic. Will really help people that don't have easy access to either printers, or the ability to do it themselves...and just want to preserve 'legacy' media. Love this! Would have helped my father save a ton a couple years ago.

      Ah yes absolutely. My dad had so many unscanned negatives. On the bright side I get to discover some gems now.

    For future reference - I just purchased a V600 and it included a free download of Silverfast 8. I couldn't get it to register/activate so I contacted Silverlight and they promptly responded letting me know I could upgrade to version 9 within so many days of purchase and provided a link for the download. So if you purchase a new V600 you can get Silverfast SE version 9 for free.

    An addition and a correction to an otherwise excellent overview of SilverFast 9. 1) The scanner piece in the lid is a light, the scanner uses the same sensor for everything in the lower part. The two are kept in synch during scanning. 2) to cut out that annoying mirror image scanning problem, put the negatives in the holder emulsion side up, shiny side down.

    Even though my Epson V-600 didn`t come with holders for the old 126 or 110 film or even mention that it could scan them, I found that I could just lay the negatives down the center of the screen as straight as I can [ don`t worry about being to straight ] and scan them on the setting desired and run them in Adobe photo shop afterwards they come out beautifully.

    • @sccjono
      @sccjono  2 года назад

      You can sometimes find the holders for sale on eBay etc. But yes they can be scanned perfectly without them with a little care. A tip is to use some low adhesive tape if they won't sit still.

      @@sccjono Even if they move Adobe has a motion that squares the crooked pic up with a click of the mouse. I went that way because even the holders that came with the machine were only giving me half of a pic never did figure that one out. Turns out it`s quicker to just let Adobe deal with it.

    Thanks a lot! Having just bought V600 for use with mac, this was a great help as no manual, instructions or anything was included with the scanner.
    Getting SilverFast9 alone was quite a task as it downloads SilverFast 8 as a default.
    Superhelpful! Thank you so mcuh! :)

      Just bought a V600 and used the disk to do the original installation. Found Epson software a bit tricky to deal with, then remembered the free Silverfast 9 on offer.
      Jump through some hoops to get it but so much nicer to use and should be simple now with these helpful videos. Thanks.
      £300 from Wex photo but £50 cash back after a few more hoops so all good.

    I don't have a scanner (yet) as my place is the size of a shoebox, but i do like the options you have in Silverfast.
    The scanners i tested at my work were a big nono (aldi and lidl).
    The few b/w negatives i did was with nikon bellows and a canon 5DII.
    Great job on this video, very informative.

      Ah yeah even just for personal stuff it's worth the investment in a half decent scanner but also no need to go top of the line. I like that Silverfast is standalone but if you use Lightroom, Negative Lab Pro comes highly recommended.

    • @sccjono

      The Plus edition has one or two enhanced features such as JPG2000 support and enhanced printing but nothing that interested me at the time. I think SE is fine for most users. Full info on the Laser Imaging website.

    Do you have a problem scanning negatives that are curved, because they are old? Does the cover press them down?

    • @sccjono
      @sccjono  2 года назад

      Hello. To be honest it is more of a problem when they are new and freshly developed. One tip for you is to soak the negatives in warm water for a short while and then press them flat within something that will soak up the excess water. However, the device that you place the negatives in before scanning will hold even the "curliest" negative flat for scanning and so it has never been necessary for me.

    Thanks for the intro to Silverfast. I am having a wee bit of trouble scanning my photos to an external drive with V600 ... the scanner does not recognize the drive. The default seems to be the Photo file on my MAC. It seems this is a Monterey issue as I don't recall having this difficulty in previous OS. I downloaded Epson Scan 2 when I upgraded to Monterey ... that's when the difficulties began. Will Silvervast 9 allow me to send the scans to an external drive? Any thoughts?

    • @sccjono
      @sccjono  2 года назад

      Hi David, thanks for watching. I'm afraid I have never used a Mac and so I cannot be definite, but yes Silverfast can definitely scan to external drives as this what I do in Windows.

    Hi Jon, can you tell me what is the maximum possible resolution of a scanned frame of 35mm film? Because what is in your video, i.e. 1284x853, does not satisfy me

    • @sccjono
      @sccjono  Год назад

      The maximum resolution of this scanner is 6400 x 9600 dpi. If you want more you'll have to choose a different scanner.

    • @sccjono
      @sccjono  Год назад

      @@tamarkohnmarks5394 JPEG is absolutely fine for most people as it is compressed and therefore takes up less space. You'd choose tiff if you we're looking for high quality perhaps for enlargement but most people cannot tell the difference on a phone or computer screen.
