Recently acquired a V600 and couldn't get the Ver 8. going. The folks at Silverfast were so helpful and upgraded me Ver 9. After getting over a little learning curve I love this software!
The install process, especially (i guess) if you got the software with a scanner, is pretty unintuitive and painful, but once you're over that hurdle it does a good job.
*The only problem with Silverfast:* I can't use it with my EPSON V350 PHOTO, because the *Auto Film Loader is not supported.* Thank God i didn't proceed with my order. This video however is one of the best i saw!
Hi, I have the V600 and did all the settings, and it looks good on the preview, but when I hit SCAN it doesn't scan as a negative. I think it scans without the backlight. How do I get this right?
Thanks. I have the epsom v600. I like your software but I would suggest that you change the UI to make it more modern looking. Perhaps similar to the intuitive and design of adobe products. Thanks
Hello silverfast, I just bought a Plustek scanner in addition to my Epson V850. To install it do I only need the new SN or do I need my original one as well? Because I don’t know my original SN
@ The Negative You'll only need the new one to install SilverFast for your new Plustek scanner. Btw. since you just purchased the Plustek, you might be eligible for a free upgrade to SilverFast 9. You can check here --> --helpcenter.silverfast.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402146728209-Are-there-free-upgrades-to-SilverFast-9- Awesome channel btw, left you a sub!
I have just purchased a Plustek OpticFilm 8200i but it only comes with SilverFast 8 and as far as I can tell you have to pay extra for the upgrade. If that is the case it is disappointing that a piece of tech isn't sold with the most up to date software or given an option to upgrade to from the software included for free.
@ Lachlan Nichol we agree that would be disappointing :-) Please check out this post in our help center --> --helpcenter.silverfast.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402146728209-Are-there-free-upgrades-to-SilverFast-9-
But what if you don't have the transparency option and can't select negative (grayed out)? Epson perfection 3200 photo scanner. Worked great with version 6.6 but can't scan negatives with ver.9
Darren, please check if the cable from the upper transparency unit is fully plugged-in into the lower unit of your scanner. Usually if the tau is not recognised the transparency option won't be available. Safe scanning!
Thank you so much for reaching out with your feedback! Your suggestion doesn't go unheard - we're constantly working to expand our library of film profiles, and user feedback is pivotal in helping us prioritise where to focus our efforts. While I can't give you an exact timeline for when these updates will be available, I can assure you that they're on our radar. In the meantime, if you have any other questions or if there's anything else we can do to enhance your SilverFast experience, please don't hesitate to get in touch --> support@silverfast.com Happy scanning!
Regarding bit-depth settings: I dont understand what the difference is between 48 Bit and 48 Bit HDR RAW. Is it the type of file? Are both tiffs or DNGs ? I dont know if I should buy silverfast ai studio or just silverfast se plus. I want to scan 48bit tiffs and then edit the raw file in CaptureOne or Lightroom. I want the best quality possible. What would you suggest is the best option?
The file type is the same, can be Tiff or DNG, 48-Bit HDR RAW is unprocessed while 48-bit has all editing settings „baked“ in, incl. gamma and depending on the CMS-settings conversion into a RGB-workingspace of your choice, RAW will have the scanner profile embedded. In my (biased) opinion the Archive Suite is the best option for best quality, it consists of the Ai-Studio which will give you IT8-calibration for your scanner (among others), Scan to HDR(i) RAW with best optical resolution and maximum dynamic range your scanner provides, convert and process in HDR-Studio and export to 48-bit Tiff for import into CO/Lightroom (while archiving the HDR RAW as your digital original and no need to rescan ever). The 2nd best option would be just the Ai-Studio and export 48-bit Tiff to CO/LR but without the benefits of the archived digital original. Keep in mind the RAWs from a scanner are not Bayer-matrixed like from (most) cameras and they will import and open in CO/LR but requires additional editing while prefs, settings and edits for the RAW conversion are synced between Ai and HDR studio with Archive Suite. Hope this helps 🤓.
Hi got a question what happens s on when using Negafix and you can't remember what film all speed I have quite a number of negatives that I've stored in folders and still alright most of these negatives minimum of 25 years old.
I am struggling to even get an image out of my v800 perfection. I had the v600 and it was fine. The scanner works well and when I have it on reflective it works fine but as soon as I put it on transparency holder and negative and then scan it just shows loads of light streaks and no Image... Any help please
So what you are telling me is that I can't just use this scanner to digitize old slides without going to school for a year first. Why not just have a place where you show what settings to choose with "X" type of slide?
@ Sunset Rider this is supposed to be a tutorial on scanning negatives and does not apply to scanning slides. Check out our slide scanning tutorial --> ruclips.net/p/PL1MCwDITfx5NCemckKTvOVvHl4UHbBjbC
Anyone know how to get this company to respond to help request please provide a method......they don't answer emails, their auto response never sends email replies to request, and even though your a registered Epson user with them you can't download the software to get the scanner to work!
@ Bill Meador Your email reached us on saturday night 11:52 pm CET and our support staff is not personally available at this time. But first thing monday morning I send you a reply on how you can download the software as a registered user. I'll post it here also: Please visit www.silverfast.com, choose "Downloads" from the main navigation menu on top, then choose "Download &Updates" from the submenu. This will take you to a download page to enter your registered email address and serial number to access and download the latest version of SilverFast for your scanner. For reference this is the direct link --> www.silverfast.com/get_update/en.html Another good resource for helpful information while our support staff is not personally available is our online help center --> helpcenter.silverfast.com If you enter "download software" in the search bar, it will provide some helpful articles. Thanks for using SilverFast :-)
Ron, as mentioned scanning negatives is the biggest scanning challenge out there, so the first part of the movie gives a little bit of context on the challenge at hand. We tried to keep it as short as possible while still providing some background on the process. A link in the description will take you to 03:17 where the tutorial starts. Safe scanning!

can i use this app to scan color and b&w negative using HP Scanjet G4010? or does it work with only epson?
