  • As first time cruisers, this holiday could not have been more perfect for us. We did lots of research before we booked on companies, ships, port options, and dates and I think we made a great decision.
Aside from Norway being spectacular and us falling in love with the country (more on that in the next vlogs!), this ship was the perfect way to sail through the fjords.
Iona is a new ship and you can tell, everything was clean and fresh, the different areas and restaurants were well themed and classy, and the cabins were spacious and comfortable - our cabin manager was so lovely too!
The food was great and suited our family, with so many options to choose from every day (the katsu chicken curry was a fan favourite!) but Mark and I also enjoyed the additional paid menus.
Entertainment wise there was something for everyone. All the performances were professional and the stage mechanics, lighting, and sound was well thought out.
Now for the negatives - there aren't many - the toilets were always clogged especially during busy periods eg breakfast and near the evening entertainment which often left you traversing decks trying to find a working one. Secondly, if you're a custard lover you might not like the one on board 😂
All in all, we had a wonderful time and are already considering another cruise, especially to Norway - what a beautiful country.

Great review and you've caught the cruise bug! We cruised to the fjords on Iona in 2022 and completely agree with your review. She is a lovely ship and it was great hearing Captain Wesley in the background describing the ships movement in his special way. We had a conservatory mini suite as a special anniversary treat (but not one of the controversial ones on deck eight). So glad you enjoyed your first cruise.

Definitely caught the bug! Captain Wesley was amazing, he made us feel very welcome and informed. Oh that sounds lovely, I think next time we will definitely have a balcony and we will probably be back to explore different Norwegian ports at some point 🙈

We have definitely been converted to cruising! It's a case of where and when rather than if 😂

I think all cruises to the Fjords are ending soon, LNG powered ships or not! Such a shame! Beautiful part of the world! Beautiful ship too!

Oh I thought LNG powered would still be allowed! Glad I got to go if that is the case but such a shame

What is there to do in the day activity wise.Thinking of booking the Iona..Im not one for sitting about or going in the pool so concerned I’ll be bored in the day .Thanks

@jessicamosby7918 there are lots of activities going on in the day - quizzes, bingo, live music, sports, shuffleboard, cinema etc. You may have noticed from the videos on our channel that we also don't like to sit still on holiday and we found enough to do 😂 (that being said I'm not sure I could do 2 weeks as we ticked off most things in the 1 week). There are also a few lovely spots to read a book or play a board game

Bodhi and I loved this. He can't believe there is a swimming pool on the boat.
Shame to see Mark has lost his basketball skill

We weren't impressed. The Food in the Freedom restaurants with waiter service was very poor IMO, mostly cold or lukewarm food (if you're lucky) not good quality on the whole, hard potatoes, bland food etc. We had a sit down breakfast with waiter service once, they brought cold/hard toast to the table followed by barely like warm scrambled eggs on toast. Just awful on the whole, the Horizon buffet was actually a better option for food, but on holiday you want the table service. We had to pay for speciality restaurants to get a decent meal. Sindu restaurant was nice & we had delicious steaks at the Keel & Cow, the Epicurean I thought was disappointing. Entertainment was OK, theatre shows not our cup of tea , we like the traditional broadway type shows you get on other cruise ships. We enjoyed the Rock Show but on the whole the feeling was the entertainment team was doing what they wanted & not what the majority of the customers would like. Didn't see the X Factor guy signing so can't comment on that. They had a live band that played in the 711 club, it was a nice way to spend 45 mins in a dit down venue. Marella does much better entertainment from our experience. The first time we tried P&O, we wouldn't go back

I imagine we will slowly make our way around different cruise lines to compare 😂 we loved Norway so might try Princess next around the different ports!
