  • Olden, Norway is like stepping into a postcard - especially on a clear day, the scenery is breathtaking and there are plenty of ways to explore this beautiful area.
Heading to Olden on a cruise? You have to try and do the Briksdal glacier and the Loen skylift (time dependent).
We booked the first glacier bus with Olden Adventures for 9:30am and made sure we were off the ship as soon as the doors opened for disembarking. The information posted states it takes 45 minutes each way to walk to the glacier but this doesn't account for stopping to take in the incredible views so allow more time to walk up! Albeit we are nerdy when it comes to stunning landscapes, I can guarantee you won't want to miss this.
If the glacier walk doesn't take your fancy, we also recommend the Loen boat trip and glacier view as an alternative. Some of our group did this in the morning and still had time to join us at the skylift in the afternoon.
We got the bus from the port to Loen skylift at 2pm. This gave us enough time to get up the skylift and spend some time at the top marvelling the views, making snow angels in the snow, and grabbing a drink from the cafe. Just make sure you know when your ship is due to depart and account for the time getting back down!
We booked with Olden Adventures as the times lined up better and it was all very straightforward and organised. We didn't feel rushed or stressed and could just enjoy our time in Olden.
I mention this in the video but the day in Olden was one of the best days I've ever had. Make sure you get off the ship for this place!

we are doing the Loen Lake and Kjenndal Glacier (which some of your group did) and sky lift. How was the timings? We booked the 10am excursion.

Have you booked with P&O or Olden Adventures? They booked the 10am Loen lake via Olden Adventures and if you select the skylift add on when you book, they drop you right at the skylift instead of taking you back to port. They met us up there around 3pm and we started heading back to port around 4:15pm (obviously depends when your ship is due to depart)

@@wanderingadventures thank you for explaining that. We was starting to panic as heard the queue back down skylift is crazy. We booked with olden adventures directly.

@ExtremeRoamer the queues come and go, and you can see through the glass how long it's looking. We waited until it died down so didn't have to wait long. As long as you set a cut off time for heading back down you should be fine. Speak to the staff at the top of the skylift too, they know how long you'll need to get back in plenty of time.

Great video, can I just ask how often do the buses run with olden adventures too and from the ski lift as we are planning on doing the same trip as you did.
