Thanks a lot. It was a question that was coming up a lot on various Iona FB groups and the like. Sadly, it seems they don't like me posting it directly so I'm glad you found it .
I followed your advice and bought my ticket at Olden Adventure. It cost 8000 NOK including the bus. It was fantastic, the highlight of the cruise. Thanks for the video
Thanks. I made it because the exact questions come up all the time on a FB Iona forum. Sadly I can't post it there or even mention it - but glad the people who do find have found it useful!!
I like the logic that you apply to the various choices presented. Especially since being paranoid is one of my hobbies, LOL! I was reminded of the one and only cruise I took--in the 60s--that included Caribbean islands and a stop at Caracas, Venezuala. We got on cable cars with people wearing snow coats and didn't figure why, until the highest stop. But what a view! As far as it being high priced? If you put a higher price on excursions that include a higher possible of death and dismemberment (or frostbite), then this one was priced just right!
We did the same when in Las Vegas. We went to the Grand Canyon in t-shirts and shorts. It's a desert, right? Didn't account for the height! Ended up buying some odd hoodie.
Unless you're stupid and fall off a cliff there's no risk of death. Would be a crappy business if they killed their customers. Norway is a very safe country if you just use common sense :)
Do it! Either first thing in the morning or later in the day. There were two ships in when we did it. It only takes 5 mins up and 5 mins down. Plenty of time
We will rent a car in Nordfjordeid and the Leon lift is on our route. We will decide on the weather situation. There is also an option to just drive up to the Dalsnibba Utsiktspunkt "Geiranger Skywalk" for 300NOK.
Definitely. It doesn't take long to do the Skylift it just depends how long you want you want to spend at the top. It only take 5-7 minutes to get there from the port. So just do it before or after the Glacier depending on what time that is.
We did the P&O guided excursion and regretted it as we had less than 15 minutes at the top and were rushed back down again onto the coach to the next location and were rushed there too, £200 wasted. I will know next time.😊
Yeah, excursions get better a bit rapid. Sometimes it feels like you get to see something but not experience something on these excursions. On the recent Iceland cruise I found all the excursions very good but no matter how good they are they still have that see rather than experience factor as you're not under you're own timescale.
Walking in the mountains the whole day, often ends at some place like this. The top, asphalt, garbage and people dragging around it. Absolutly the top spot for some, end of the day for me.
Does the skylift ticket include the bus or is that seperate? Was gobsmacked by the price BTW ! II also wonder what the ship adds on top as well ! Lastly, NO WAY you'd get me on that scenic rock !
The ticket included the bus. Yeah I can't remember what the ship was charging as it had ran out anyway as it does very early. . I can't remember if I mentioned it on the video as I was not 100% sure but a part of me thinks the people who had done the excursion from Iona were literally exchanging vouchers at the same place.
We're doing Olden on a P&O cruise next year. Will I use the Sky Lift? Absolutely, positively, no way! I'm not missing anything, I can see the views from videos like yours! You couldn't offer me £1m to go up there! My GF might want to go but I'm staying as close to the shore as possible! Heights, for me, are a complete nope! 😢
It's definitely not for people who don't like heights or are happy to just see it via footage. Some of the shots the Instagrammers were getting would fill you with horror. I'll be honest, I question if its even worth it to travel up,.see the view and get the photo as it's expensive. It's definitely worth it if you're using it as a trailhead to do a hike though.
Just the shot of you walking towards the edge had me grabbing the sides of my armchair and feeling a sense of fear. 🙁 The views, as your video proves, are stunning but it's not something I could do. I'm hoping we can find someone that my GF can go up there with while I stay at sea level!
It was definitely that price, just checked on the card and it did include the bus. That isn't a cheap bus considering it only goes around the corner almost 😁
@@mimosa7070 the buses are shuttle buses from the olden port and yes, that is the price, around 800,- , 595.- for the skylift only, so around 200.- for the buses, there is hardly no local buses between Loen and Olden, and taxi is hard to get, remember it is a small town, olden have 2 taxi, Loen 0, Stryn 5, but then you have to pay extra for them to drive to Loen/olden, so any cheaper than the shuttle buses will be walking, a narrow road with a lot of traffic
I’m about to do this cruise. Can’t thank you enough for making this video. Superb advice- simple, informative and humorous 😊

That's awesome. It is fantastic up there.
Fantastic information. You answered so many questions. Thank you!

Just the info I was looking for! Big thanks :)
Awesome.
Nicely presented with some good practical insights.

Yeah, when cruising around the Fjords O could see all the roads and wrapping around the Fjords and some of those drives would be epic.
Very informative 👍
Thanks!!
Beautiful Norway!!!😊😊😊
We are booked on a Fjords cruise soon. Would we have time to do the skylift as well as the Brigsdall Glacier on the same day? Many thanks

@Narrative Escapes ok, thank you so much for your reply. Great video! We are going to subscribe to you 👍
Great question! We are on Iona in April and was wondering the same . Also, local bus to glacier, around 65 NOK rather than expensive cruise excursion
We did the P&O guided excursion and regretted it as we had less than 15 minutes at the top and were rushed back down again onto the coach to the next location and were rushed there too, £200 wasted. I will know next time.😊

Is there snow at the top all year round? I also want to experience the ice cave.
That I am not sure on. I was intrigued finding snow when I went!

How long does it take the lift to get to the top? Is there facilities like toilets at the top?
It's a rapid ascent. So minutes not even ten minutes.
There is a restaurant, shop and toilet facilities at the arrival point.
@@NarrativeEscapesthanks so much. Great review
850NOK sounds wrong, unless you paid 275 for the bus. A ticket for the skylift in the high season, costs 575NOK.
It was definitely that price, just checked on the card and it did include the bus. That isn't a cheap bus considering it only goes around the corner almost 😁
@@NarrativeEscapes That was an expensive bus ride yes! For that price, you could have taken a taxi, and buy the ticket at the sky lift.
If theres 2 ships in olden Do NOT bother with this as you will have to hope you make it up down and back to your ship.
There was P&O Iona and Norwegian Star in when I did it, albeit Norwegian Star is a smaller ship.
I did go first thing in the morning though.
Do it. Don’t listen to anyone that says don’t do it
