Wegama Raja maha viharaya is a very sacred place, situated near Hewaheta in Sri lanka. This temple located about 3km away from Hewaheta town.
It is a cave temple. The history of the temple goes back to pre Christian era. This is a very important place to see ancient cave paintings specially in the main cave that belong to Gampola and kandyan era.
The temple area is surrounded by mountains and tiny forests. Most of the current constructions were done by king keerthi sri rajasinghe in kandyan era. (1747-1782)
