Ginikarawa raja maha viharaya is situated about 11 km away from kurunegala town.
Road From kurunegala town to Ginikarawa raja maha viharaya.
Kurunegala town - Mutthettugala(near about 2.5km)(Dambulla road) - Turn left to Wellawa , Hiripitiya road(About 7.5km) - Wellawa - Turn left to Ginikarawa raja maha viharaya (temple) (About 1km)
The history of the Ginikarawa raja maha viharaya goes back to the Anuradhapura period.The image house is situated under a drip ledged cave. You can see cave paintings specially in the main cave that belongs to kandyan era.
A dilapidated stupa built on the rock located northeast of the cave temple. There is a rock inscription that belongs to 5-7 centuries A.D. also found near this stupa.
There is a beautiful place to visit ginikarawa rock.From the top of this rock you can enjoy with beautiful sceneries. The enviornement here is calm and quiet.
