A note from a fleet mechanic. Keep the work orders for all work on the van. Make sure all engine and transmission codes they read are on the work order. Some dealers will not record codes hoping the van will go out warranty before the repair is done. EGR codes are one they like to blow off. If the van has a V6 engine the EGR valve takes a couple of hours to replace. I would give it two more EGR check engine lights before I would make them fix the problem.
The MB four cylinder diesel seems a lot more reliable than the V6 which was prone to oil cooler leak. My 2012 E350 bluetec had the issue at 100K miles $10k to fix if not for CPO warranty. Hopefully MB fixed this issue on newer V6 diesels. It was just the wrong gasket material 🤔
Also the coworker I sold the bluetec to recently had a recall from MB on the whole DEF system replacement from the tank, heater, particulate filter, NOX sensor. He has 165K on the V6 currently. My 1980 300CD had 340K miles with only a starter replacement. Best car I ever owned(14years)
I am not sure if anybody realizes how incredibly badass these women are to spend the night in these temperatures in a van. Even if you had a heater it would still be cold.. really cold!. Love you and your mother. BOTH OF YOU ARE TRULY AMAZING! And your father is the coolest ever! Thank you for your wonderful videos! 💕
Nikki your mom seems like such a sweet and kind person. I lost my mom when I was 10 and my dad a few years back. You have been blessed to have great people like your mom and dad in your life, I can`t stress this enough. Cherish them and of course your little gift from above Camper. Thanks for the great videos and stay safe.
That is so true! When you choose to live your life in a way that isn’t perceived as “normal”, a lot of parents judge. It sounds amazing to have that kind of support, and it is too easy to forget how many kids and adults either lost or never had that in their lifes. So I hope people remember and appreciate the value of family like this ❤️ My «dad» has a personality disorder and is emotionally abusive, so I can’t even imagine having two loving and supporting parents. Lucky you to have had experienced it. I hope you feel that way❤️
Nikki, invest in an OBD reader. Very easy to use and inexpensive. Plugs into the OBD port under your dash (usually by the steering wheel) and will read the codes on your computer. Whenever you get a fault light, just plug it in and you can see what’s going on. Saves a lot of worry. Good luck with the build!
@@lhollybow That’s why a Cummins is a better choice for “traveling/transport” needs. Any major truck stop can diagnose/repair them under warranty. Mercedes not so much. This is a brand new vehicle and OK, there might be a bug in the system (and Cummins has their “cons” too I’ll readily admit). But there are tons more Cummins repair/warranty shops than there are Merc.
@@flipnotrab NEED being the key word.. Never hurts to have some basic tools along with the ODB2 scanner. Will help when you call dealer or a mechanic (after warranty runs out) to give them a bit of a clue as to what the issue could be. Will also give you a bit of an idea what the fix could be to keep from getting scammed.
I love how your whole family is a part of your adventures. Your parents are super supportive and fun to be around. This would NEVER HAPPEN in my family. Maybe not having that, it seems like NBD to y'all. I think it's GREAT!!!
Hey Nikki... For the past several months I've been watching your subscriber numbers increase... and at a pretty rapid rate! I hope people appreciate the effort it takes to do everything you do, moving, traveling, etc., and at the same time create content so we can watch the final product. Keep up the great work!
A short PSA, please don’t drive up the highway with your feet on the dashboard. If you suddenly hit something and the air bags go off you’ll be in a wheelchair for life. I see it daily as a trucker. Also get yourself a plug in engine monitor, you can check engine codes and reset if you don’t have to go into the shop.
I love that your dad is taking the Prius on adventures and then how your mom popped her cute little face out from behind the van door!!!! 😂😂😂 your parents are so great!
Nikki, there are OBD-II readers you plug in and with Bluetooth can talk to your phone if you download an app. It will read you the code and tell you what it is. You'd be better prepared for service visits and know if the issue was an emergency or not. I've had mine for almost 10 years and it works very, very well.
Or buy a Cummins and any/every shop/truck stop could do it while under warranty. Love Merc vans and their diesels are sweet, but have serious goofy emission electrical issues. Service for the NON-mechanically inclined traveler should be at the top of “needs” list.
My scan tool paid for itself the first time I used it. The code from my wife's Jetta said "bad Mass Airflow Sensor," but a little research pointed toward a big vacuum leak as another possible cause. I found a hard plastic vacuum line that split where it attached to a barbed fitting. The dealer wanted hundreds for the whole assembly, but I replaced the bad section with a $13 molded hose from NAPA secured with two zip ties. That fix was still working great when we sold it eight years later.

I’ve been thinking about doing this for the last 15 years, but as a single mother it hasn’t been practical. I always thought I would name my van “Fort,” or “The Fort.” It is your protection and your safe place, and I can’t think of a more protective place than a fortress.
You did forget a full size suv like a chevy suburban or ford excursion with a converted inside because you'll get the stealth camping you enjoyed in the prius and the 4x4 capability you like the Tacoma pop-up camper
Out of all the RUclipsrs I follow I look forward to your videos the most. I feel like I’m on this adventure with you and camper. Cannot wait to see the final result! 🎉
I had the same van, brand new and same check engine light. It will take several trips to the dealership before they’ll finally accept it and change out the parts. But once they did, van was rock solid dependable for the next 40k. miles (before I sold it for profit hehe). Now I want another one. You’ll love this van!
As a disabled person I'd so love to do what you have been doing. If you ever want a companion yeh I'd go for it here's hoping... alll the best to you Nikki you're amazing! x
Your driving in the snow looked like our roads the entire winter here in Michigan. You get used to it and learn all the tricks to staying safe. Nice to see your Mom!
Love how involved and supportive your mom is, I'm glad you finally settled on a rig full time. Also hope you and your family have a happy new year Nikki!
Loving your videos, and especially that your mom’s traveling with you. She’s absolutely gorgeous and it’s easy to see where you got your beautiful looks from. Not only are your videos fun to watch but also educational and inspiring! Happy New Year!
Such an inspiration..I live in my car right now and you pop-up in my mind sometimes when I run into situations. I just think to myself what would Nikki do lol.
A whole new volume, not just a chapter. I remember seeing the first of your videos that I watched. There was this girl and her dog, living in a car like some upmarket hobo - but with a much more pleasant personality! I've gone back and forth through your videos, delving into the Delventhal history and keeping up to date with yours and Camper's adventures, all the time wondering why you guys don't just Get A Van! And finally, you have. And it's going to be beautiful. Naturally. Looking forward to your next video, as always.
Call it "Camper's van 2.0" . another dosage of good time ! always great with Cynthia's cameo appearances . 22:25 mother carrying the tripod to support daughter's channel. what a great relationship. 30:40 you need to edit ,everyone can see the number plate of the van.
Hi, I'm new to your channel and I love it. After all the tryouts, you settled on the Sprinter, but you didn't say how much it cost you and you're the 1st vanlifer who hasn't said what they do for work. I'm really looking forward to watching your new home evolve 👍
Hi Nikki - This is just a suggestion concerning your "check engine" light issue. You purchased that van brand new and thus SHOULD have a manufacturer's warranty. MAKE them fix the issue correctly/fully. Please don't let them placate you and put you on your way and say "oh, it may come back on or it may not, minor issue..etc". FORCE them to FULLY repair it so that it will not come back and bite you later!
Congratulations on the van it’s the exact one I was hoping you would get. It suits you and your lifestyle and I cannot wait to see the awesome build out I know you are going to do. You done good kid🤣
Love how down to earth and real you are Nikki. Good choice on the van. Always nice to have the walk through to the front. I have a smaller one and will be upgrading this spring. And like you, it's all about my dog.:) sending you and your boy positive vibes. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful new years.
New name suggestion for the van “Campers Cruiser”! Good luck I hope you enjoy your new vehicle and You can get this vehicle repaired before you set out on your new adventures in it! Safe travels & Happy 2023 to you all!
Smart traveler. Hope the Sprinter turns into a huge success! Your videos are helping tens of thousands of DIY-ers make their off-gird vehicle decisions. Nikki is truly a princess of encouragement. Your positive attitude is awe inspiring - and it makes me want to support your channel. Much love to the Delventhal family.
The Parkour though! 😂🙌 There are times I miss having an empty van; throwing a sleeping bag in and heading off on an adventure… and at the same time, I’m grateful to have experienced the different stages and progression throughout a build. Cheers to the good life
Hello Nikki new to the channel...I love ur energy..so nice w/out all cuss words..so cool ur mom came with awesome..I use to drive 18 wheelers...my lil dog was awesome.it gets lonely out there...plz be aware at all times.things r bad around the world...
I've been following you along on your adventures for a long time. Awesome to see your Mom in one, and now I see where you got your beauty. What a fun trip!
I'm so excited for you and Camper! I'm so so glad you went with something that has access to the drivers seat from the back and I can't wait to see it transformed. Your parents are possibly the cutest people on the entire planet and I love how supportive they are. Your whole family is such a good vibe. Be safe and drive careful! Hugs to you all.
Congratulations on your new van/project/home! I got myself a 20-year-old Fiat Ducato van that the previous owners had started to build into a mobile home. It still needed (or needs) a lot of love and attention, but it was the best option considering my finances. Since my van is a rare special model that is only as long as a normal family car (thus fitting into normal European parking spaces) and it is white, I called it Idefix after the little white dog from the Asterix comics.
So much room for activities! 😂 Can’t wait to see how you fit out the new rig. If I was to travel full time, a van exactly like this would be my number 1 choice. At 6 foot 3, the height would be amazing 👌
Yay! Your mom is breaking in the van with you. She is the best! Well you have such an amazing family all together ❣️ so happy you are sharing this with us! Me and my 5 yr daughter waited patiently for this! Everyday, " is it on Momma?"😂
FYI, it looks like you wanted to hide your tag number, but it's visible at 11:28 when you close it after emptying it. Just in case you want to edit that out. Congrats on the van and can't wait to see what you do with it!
I was smiling ear to ear this whole episode. First, so happy you and Camper are well. And love your Mom, she’s wonderful. Camper loved Troy, came back in the house after playing with him with his chest puffed out. That last close up of Camp was priceless. But the best wasn’t your beautiful new van, but your overflowing happiness and playfulness. Stellar! Love you so much, Nikki, you are truly, one of a kind.
So happy for you. I don't really like this kind of lifestyle or travelling but for some reason I watch all your videos with joy. I inherited two campers from my in-laws a Mercedes Vito 316 LMC with everything you can imagine on it and an older Ford Meridien. I feel awful not using them but my children adore them and don't let me sell them . Maybe one day I will finally prefer them over hotels and my beach house for vacation. Until then I will watch your videos and get a taste of freedom as you understand it. Happy and healthy new year !
Camper is such a cute, smart, and fun dog! 😊 love the new van. Your adventures are so fun to watch. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. You and Camper are amazing!
Always an added bonus great time when your parents are around Nikki, So glad you got the van and congratulations ! because its roomier for you and Camper. Can't wait until you design it to your liking, the new adventures await. van name= Scout. 🎉🎉 Wishing you all a very Safe, Happy and Prosperous New Year !!! 🥰🙏🥂✌
Congratulations on purchasing your new rig. I deffiently agree that a 4 by 4 is a great way to go. I love wild camping and to be able to camp in the back country. I am the same age as you Niki and my mom's name is Cynthia, too. I travel seasonally full time in my Ford Escape and I will also start to look for a new rig in a few years.
The check engine light will come on if that gas cap was not on properly! It will clear usually after 5 driving cycles, and yes driving not just turning it on and letting run. Probably wouldn’t hurt to invest in a 50 dollar code reader. Nice Rig
I love when you have special guests. 💕 Especially your family. Congratulations on your new home. I love it!!! ❤️ I'm excited to see what you turn your home into. It's going to be awesome. Here's to a fabulous 2023 to you and all your loved ones.
Congrats! Uou made it, I also purchased mine last months paid in cash. While watching this video I feel very proud of who I am and what I've accomplished. I'm glad I made a wise financial choice that changed me.
Congratulations! I'm motivated, and I'm also saving up to buy a house, so this means a lot to me right now. Would you mind sharing some advice on how to increase my income?
Use Diesel Kleen Brand for anti-gel for your diesel for when it freezes/gets cold. Diesel will literally gel up and then you'll have to use rescue 911 to turn it back to a liquid, but gelling your diesel can ruin your fuel filters, so it's best to stay on top of it and use the anti-gel. white bottle for winter, grey bottle for summer. During cold snaps/Arctic blasts you can put a piece of cardboard in front of your radiator to block the wind from freezing your radiator (were talking -20 upwards of -50 degrees you'd want to do this. You may want to check and see if your van has a grid heater which allows you to plug your diesel in during the cold to keep your engine block and oil warm, allowing for much easier starts in the cold. Let it warm up and let it cool down! Awesome awesome!!
Can't wait to see the new adventures in the van. Nikki on a diesel try not to let ya diesel exhaust fluid fluid "Def" go below 2 bar's if u can. Saves a lot of headaches. Cheers 🍻 🇨🇦
Hi Nikki - congrats on the van purchase! I think it’ll be perfect for you and Camper. One thing you might want to acquire is a cheap obd2 code reader for those times that the engine light greets you. It’ll pull the code causing the light to come on, and after a quick Google search you can determine if it’s something simple (ie: fuel cap) or something that requires urgent attention. Depending on the code you can also clear it. Cheers!
Hey Shawn, attention- Nikki is mine. She loves me, end of story. Can you stop trying to get at her BRO. She’s mine!!!!!!!!! Mine!!!…ok bye gotta run, my toilet is clogged..friggin whole milk and burritos will clean you out, my man!!!
Once your build out is complete, have you thought about doing a vehicle wrap ? Like putting a bow on the package. A nice ocean scene, mountains, sunrises, etc. These people do awesome work.

Out of all the RUclipsrs I follow I look forward to your videos the most. I feel like I’m on this adventure with you and camper. Cannot wait to see the final result! 🎉
Your energy and exercise in an empty van was so great. Congratulations on a new beginning and can’t wait to watch you built up the van. 👏👏👏
10:22 😆 You had me dying! Lol Love the step brothers reference... you are hella funny. Happy new year!
Nikki doing parkour in an empty van is the silliness I didn’t know I needed today. Great video!
I had the same van, brand new and same check engine light. It will take several trips to the dealership before they’ll finally accept it and change out the parts. But once they did, van was rock solid dependable for the next 40k. miles (before I sold it for profit hehe). Now I want another one. You’ll love this van!
Just curious. Which parts?
Mine was a faulty SCR and downstream nox sensor.
Hello there👋,how are you doing today?hope you’re having a good start so far?God bless you!!💕
As a disabled person I'd so love to do what you have been doing.
She just doing all this for views. Relax
Did she get a man to marry her??
@@stansmith5610 That's what everyone on RUclips is doing it for...

May God's Grace Continue to Guide You along with Your Adventures !!! Mad Respect to Your Parent's as Well !!! Hugs to Camper !!! 👍
I'd think buying a OBD2 scanner to know and clear codes in remote locations could give a lot of peace of mind if available for your van.
Loving your videos, and especially that your mom’s traveling with you. She’s absolutely gorgeous and it’s easy to see where you got your beautiful looks from. Not only are your videos fun to watch but also educational and inspiring! Happy New Year!
Daughter is pretty, mom is prettier. How do grandma look I wonder.
Congrats! I love it when good things happen to good people who work for it! You’re the best, Nik
Such an inspiration..I live in my car right now and you pop-up in my mind sometimes when I run into situations. I just think to myself what would Nikki do lol.
You are the best love everything you do. Every time I watch your I’m inspired.!
Also you can see the plate around 29:45 - should edit it out don't want people to see it!

Hi, I'm new to your channel and I love it. After all the tryouts, you settled on the Sprinter, but you didn't say how much it cost you and you're the 1st vanlifer who hasn't said what they do for work. I'm really looking forward to watching your new home evolve 👍
So glad Camper is ok. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we look forwards to watching your continued adventures together.
Thank you Nikki!
Couple thoughts on a van name. #1 VANellopy, #2 VANessa, #3 Camper's hideout or #4 and the worst one by far Van Diesel. 😆
Van diésel made me LOL
Van diesel ⛽️ kills me that is awesome 👌
VanGogh.
Congratulations on the van it’s the exact one I was hoping you would get. It suits you and your lifestyle and I cannot wait to see the awesome build out I know you are going to do. You done good kid🤣
Nice to see your mom in your video Nikki
Love how down to earth and real you are Nikki. Good choice on the van. Always nice to have the walk through to the front. I have a smaller one and will be upgrading this spring. And like you, it's all about my dog.:) sending you and your boy positive vibes. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful new years.
love the new van and the heated flooring, it’s nice that you and your mom got to spend time together 😊😊❤❤

My daughter said the same thing!
Off of the same theme.... Trail Runner cuz it's a 4x4 and that's you. Curious to see your build!

Love the episodes with your family. No family may be perfect, but yours seems to come pretty close.
I love watching build out videos like this, Can't wait!
I'm a OTR driver from Canada. Drove by Little America dozens of times but never stopped. Was a trimming thing. Thanks for sharing it with me ❤
Congratulations on your new van/project/home!
So thrilled for you and so happy Camper's tests were normal! Always worry about our fur babies! Take care and hope you have an awesome New Year's 🤗
You have a great mom and dog ! Your dad is really cool too.
Awwww sooO PLEASED that camper is healthy , thank you for letting us know , how is his buddy doing , is he ok ? 🥰
I love that your parents are very supportive on what you do. ❤️
You are absolutely the silliest person I have seen on RUclips keep it up
The check engine light will come on if that gas cap was not on properly! It will clear usually after 5 driving cycles, and yes driving not just turning it on and letting run. Probably wouldn’t hurt to invest in a 50 dollar code reader. Nice Rig
Can’t you just unplug the main battery to reset temp codes as well?
Auto zone has free code readers they lend out at least where I’m from
I love when you have special guests. 💕 Especially your family.
Congratulations on your new home. I love it!!! ❤️
I'm excited to see what you turn your home into. It's going to be awesome.
Here's to a fabulous 2023 to you and all your loved ones.
You can build bunk beds, so much room for activities. That was literally my senior quote
Congrats! Uou made it, I also purchased mine last months paid in cash. While watching this video I feel very proud of who I am and what I've accomplished. I'm glad I made a wise financial choice that changed me.
Congrats you definitely need a load of money to own a house, you did it!
Congratulations! I'm motivated, and I'm also saving up to buy a house, so this means a lot to me right now. Would you mind sharing some advice on how to increase my income?

Can’t wait to see how your van build turns out. Congratulations. Your mom is a rock star.
Camper with his red bandana is top tier
Cheers!
What Shawn said. Get an OBD2 scanner/code reader.

Once your build out is complete, have you thought about doing a vehicle wrap ? Like putting a bow on the package. A nice ocean scene, mountains, sunrises, etc. These people do awesome work.
How awesome is it to have your mom along for your adventures! Great new home on wheels! Congrats!!
