I love that your mom is traveling with you! My mom was a “road warrior”. Her last trip was a little over 6000 miles, driving her car, by herself. From Dallas to LA, to FL and then up to the Teton mountains and back to home thru yellow stone, UT, then CO into Dallas. A month an a half driving. God Bless her. (12-28-2021) I failed to mention, she was 85 on that trip. She was 87 and vacationing in FL when she learned of the passing of my wife and drove back to Dallas.
And I learned today that 15 years ago, she zip lined in the Belize jungle, to a cave to go river rafting. I never knew she did this and her brother said she was fearless.
In these long winter days with the accompanying blues, you are such a welcome ray of sunshine!! I know you fight through it at times, especially when you were recently sick. I think these are some of your qualities that have made so many successes in your life. It is a privilege to be a small part of your endeavours. Thank you for your efforts. Oh, your mom is adorable!

I toured Europe in a camper for 17 years, 13 of them with my best little pal Jack who I got as a 9 week old puppy. I swear we would return to places he had had fun and re remembered them on approach. We went to Parco San Giuliano in Venice about 6 times and from the 3rd time he used to bark as we arrived as he knew it was an amazing huge park where coypu and other interesting animals lived. Never underestimate a dog.

Having been born and raised on the Oregon Coast and now living out in the Willamette Valley I couldn’t wait to get the heck away from the coast after high school. Seeing videos like this makes me realize how much I miss certain aspects of the Oregon Coast.

When u build your van I recommend finding some outdoor cameras like what school buses have and have it linked to your phone like the blink cameras so u can see your van 24/7 and not return to a vehicle broken into wile u are walking about

I think the issue with that is that Camper always sleeps with Nikki and there's no way they'd both fit in the small bed. And possibly Mama won't sleep well with a big dog. I know he'd wake me up continually; as I've gotten older I can't even sleep with my kitties much anymore because every time they get up (they don't sleep through the night) they wake me. Middle age sux.

Yes, it took a little time but his recall is AMAZING now, even with critters (which is why it took so long). Haha I know I LOVEEEE Overland Van Project! They make insanely good quality adventure builds and have been around for a while, they probably don’t have to pay to get high on the search engines cause they crush it with word of mouth haha!

If you haven’t added it to your van already, get neoprene seat covers before they are damaged. We have two similar sized dogs to yours and the seat covers in our van have saved us so much grief and make clean up a breeze!

Built a bunk in a 65 Ford Van,.. Then I bought a 72 Dodge that had already been built out, Privately from a guy that we knew from a little group of vaners. Back then we were in a club called " LIVE", Long Island Van enthusiasts. I went across country with the 72 in 1978! What can I say I never grew out of it,... I own a 2008 Ford RV, Class C with After market for wheel drive. Out here on Eastern Long Island we camp on the beach!
There are mew Starlink antennas for RVs that are flat and flush and you can place them on the roof and keep it there all the time and even use it while the vehicle is moving!
excited to see what kind of layout you go with for your van. I know with my promaster after 3yrs i wish i had done an Out the Back style (use the rear doors for the main access, that slider door gets tiresome to try and close quite, and water drips in etc), will be cool to see what you go with.

The best van build outs are the ones that are simple. Honestly you don't need to build anything. You don't need insulation or tons of cabinets and stuff like that. Just a Webasto heater and a good cot with plastic storage bins. You don't need tons of electrical either.
I saw a couple who mainly do air travel programs. During COVID they acquired a Sprinter van similar to yours. The queen size bed in the back could be elevated to the ceiling of the van when not in use. That put all of the storage in cabinets under the bed when it was being slept on. Everything in camping life is a trade off of one kind or another.
Being a Tacomatite (seriously, it's almost like a religion with end of the day cocktails and everything) I really liked the pop-up pickup but I get the downsides too. I have a buddy with a stand up extra long Ford and I've gotta say that I get your appreciation for the van, especially in 4x4. I've lived, camped, slept in an FJ-40, 4-Runner, Subaru Legacy & Outback. All have their high and low points. Can't wait to see how you build out. And BTW, my son and I are huge fans of Camper D!

oh Nikki. I am sure you keep up with the weather. As a former marine navigator, you learn to keep up with the weather on the daily basis. I know you are in the NW and have been on west coast for awhile. There is a series of storms hitting the west coast that could last for weeks. Please be careful, there will be a lot of water flowing back to the Pacific all along the west coast.

Enjoy the time with your Mom! My Mom and I use to go camping all over the west and it was such a bonding experience since I was over 40 and we just enjoyed the same things. Mom passed away on Dec. 28, 2022 after a year of deteriorating health. Hug your Mom and spend as much time as you can enjoying her. It is so hard when the one thing that has been a constant in your life for over 59 years is suddenly gone. I wake up and think darn I did not call Mom yesterday then it hits me that she is no longer here. Love your travels! I don't mean to be sad, we had a lot of fun!

To help keep the coffee filter from collapsing, I cut the top inch of a plastic container like a cottage cheese pint, to form a large ring, make a vertical cut so it can adjust to the size of the coffee filter funnel, place it at the top section inside the filter to hold it in place.

If you haven’t added it to your van already, get neoprene seat covers before they are damaged. We have two similar sized dogs to yours and the seat covers in our van have saved us so much grief and make clean up a breeze!

So happy for you with your new Van build! You deserve it! Such an inspiration for us all. I had my 1st couple of vans back in the seventies when they were "hippie vans!"... Built a bunk in a 65 Ford Van,.. Then I bought a 72 Dodge that had already been built out, Privately from a guy that we knew from a little group of vaners. Back then we were in a club called " LIVE", Long Island Van enthusiasts. I went across country with the 72 in 1978! What can I say I never grew out of it,... I own a 2008 Ford RV, Class C with After market for wheel drive. Out here on Eastern Long Island we camp on the beach!

There are mew Starlink antennas for RVs that are flat and flush and you can place them on the roof and keep it there all the time and even use it while the vehicle is moving!

excited to see what kind of layout you go with for your van. I know with my promaster after 3yrs i wish i had done an Out the Back style (use the rear doors for the main access, that slider door gets tiresome to try and close quite, and water drips in etc), will be cool to see what you go with.

The best van build outs are the ones that are simple. Honestly you don't need to build anything. You don't need insulation or tons of cabinets and stuff like that. Just a Webasto heater and a good cot with plastic storage bins. You don't need tons of electrical either.
Amazing journey you are going through…..stay warm and always keep your spirits up….
I saw a couple who mainly do air travel programs. During COVID they acquired a Sprinter van similar to yours. The queen size bed in the back could be elevated to the ceiling of the van when not in use. That put all of the storage in cabinets under the bed when it was being slept on. Everything in camping life is a trade off of one kind or another.
Being a Tacomatite (seriously, it's almost like a religion with end of the day cocktails and everything) I really liked the pop-up pickup but I get the downsides too. I have a buddy with a stand up extra long Ford and I've gotta say that I get your appreciation for the van, especially in 4x4. I've lived, camped, slept in an FJ-40, 4-Runner, Subaru Legacy & Outback. All have their high and low points.
Can't wait to see how you build out. And BTW, my son and I are huge fans of Camper D!

oh Nikki. I am sure you keep up with the weather. As a former marine navigator, you learn to keep up with the weather on the daily basis. I know you are in the NW and have been on west coast for awhile. There is a series of storms hitting the west coast that could last for weeks. Please be careful, there will be a lot of water flowing back to the Pacific all along the west coast.

Enjoy the time with your Mom! My Mom and I use to go camping all over the west and it was such a bonding experience since I was over 40 and we just enjoyed the same things. Mom passed away on Dec. 28, 2022 after a year of deteriorating health. Hug your Mom and spend as much time as you can enjoying her. It is so hard when the one thing that has been a constant in your life for over 59 years is suddenly gone. I wake up and think darn I did not call Mom yesterday then it hits me that she is no longer here. Love your travels! I don't mean to be sad, we had a lot of fun!

To help keep the coffee filter from collapsing, I cut the top inch of a plastic container like a cottage cheese pint, to form a large ring, make a vertical cut so it can adjust to the size of the coffee filter funnel, place it at the top section inside the filter to hold it in place.
Watching you & your Mom makes me wish my Mom & I had taken road trips together,just us two. We always had my younger brother & sister with us. You & your Mom are so blessed to making these memories 💗 thrilled for you both 💖
