Never knew this existed as a 3d print file so I'm going to wander over and see what's on offer. It would be nice one day to see a vid on how you create decals like this. Nice build
Thanks Ian. The decals here were simply available as a jpeg that I imported into photoshop then printed on an inkjet from there. Will definitely do a short video on this now that I have a good spray to use as a bonder for the ink.
I can always count on you to put out fun stuff! I had already purchased the limeyverse Strange New Worlds phaser, communicator, and tricorder before I even knew about your build video, but I was happy to see your build. It was a technicality, since your video would have sold me on them nonetheless. Excellent cosplay, too!
@@InterstellarModeler I must remember that the hobby is putting the models together, not stockpiling them. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the phaser.
Great Build !! Love all the details you provide, please do a video on the SNW Phaser as well and the Tricorder ! I'm sure you will be flooded with views , you are the first to do videos on these Props ! Keep up the great videos !!
Nice build. To allow the flip grid to fully close, you could try simply file/sand down some of the material from the upper left and right flanges of the body (where it makes contact with the grill). Then simply retouch the areas with black paint.
It took like 45 minutes but I found a whole drawer full of Metric screws in my local Hommie Depot. The were under the kind of middle big display of fasteners. I needed something different but I swear I saw tiny button head hex bolts in there.
Nice build. I am curious about the screws though. Was the inclusion of screw holes for fastening the body together meant to allow access to the inside in case the builder wanted to add electronics to it? And if you weren't planning to add anything internally, why wouldn't you just glue the case together and fill in the holes? For the record, I don't have much in the way of skills as far as adding electronics and such. That said, I've always thought that it should be relatively easy (for someone with skills) to add a small pin to the hinge of a communicator, that would hit an internal switch, making the grill opening sound automatically when the grill is opened.
Hi, thanks for the question. I believe the prop actually has screws so that's why i chose to use them. Yes, using the screws allow access to the interior. A number of modelers have used the old iPod Nano to provide the moir effect and blinking buttons. I never got around to making one like that although I do have a Nano I could use for it. As for electronics...yes some can be quite innovative and no doubt would be able to do what you describe. My electronics is limited to lighting for the most part. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your kind compliments.
@@InterstellarModeler Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize that the actual prop also had screws, I thought the bottom case was smooth, like the originals. Regarding electronics, there's a video on here of a guy showing off his build of the Moebius B9 Robot from Lost in Space. It has working, remote controlled treads so it can move, motorized torso, motorized "brain", plus full lights and sounds. Oh, did I mention that not only is the robot turned on and off by inserting the tiny power pack, complete with startup and shutdown sequences, but you can also press all of the tiny buttons on the robot's chest to turn them on/off? His model has more features than most of the life-sized replicas! :)
@@InterstellarModeler yeah, that's funny, it shouldn't be. I have a Hallmark ornament communicator that should be the real size. That's all I'm saying.
@@InterstellarModeler Hello and thank you for your information. I told my son about this and he wants to research it. He asked me to ask you also what material and brand of material do you use. Thanks for the comment and for reminding me to place the links. Sorry about that. No it's not terribly expensive and I've purchased from this seller before. Pretty good quality for low cost, fairly accurate uniforms. Thanks for watching
@@InterstellarModeler Oh and btw, nice to see Mediocre Modeller interview you on his channel. However your favourite starfighter being the Viper and the X-Wing...w00t...? I could have bet it would be Space: 1999 Eagle or the Mark IX Hawk. I guess Eagle isn't a pure starfighter per se, but the Hawk sure is. Oh well, now I know Viper and X-Wing is your top favourites. I also liked both original BSG as well as the reimagined BSG. Their spaceship designs, as far as the Colonial fleet goes, shows great respect for the original series designs. 😎
I take it that there is no sound for the strange new world phaser, communicater and tricorder!? If so then what's the point of having with out lights and sound!?
@@Zeaiclies i would reach out to the sellers of the files and see if they have any recommendations. I’m not aware of anyone who sell them as a kit. Thanks for watching
Ace hardware typically has a much better selection of metric fasteners than HD. It's frustrating for someone who works on cars and bikes too, since these are pretty much universally metric (including American cars made after the 80s) and HD doesn't really cater to people who do repairs on modern equipment (metric stuff).
Just brilliant. What a world we live in that you can download files and print whatever you want.
Just like a Star Trek replicator.
Thanks Eugene...and yes...just like having a replicator
A nice simple build of an iconic prop.
Thanks William
Excellent build! the washer noise in the back ground was actually sort of cool, helped sell the star trek theme of the show ;)

Upvoted and subbed as quick as I could. Awesome stuff.
