    Been a hobbyist for years but am creating a more serious coral farm out here in Spain and have found many of your tours useful.
    My background is with cannabis and hemp and ive come to consider corals as the flowers of the sea and many of my own insights are in tune with 'reefing'. . One of these insights certainly relates to PH. Despite all the chemistry, soil, salts and environments, PH always dictates the assimilation and break-down of needed 'nutrients'. It simply has to be in quite a narrow window for the plants to really thrive ..
    The best balance is at 6.45 where 'most' nutrients can be assimilated efficiently. However there are elements that actually require that 6.8 and others the 6.4 for perfection. Difficult o achieve that swing in substrate. The fact that in tanks we have that natural fraction of change throughout the day/night leads me to believe there should probably be 'some' natural swing in PH, just a small % up and down from the median. I intend to do more actual testing of this with ranges starting at the 7.9 up to 8.3 and see how it compares to say a less variable 8.1

      It can definitely be challenging! Tyler is continuing to up his game in that department. First step is to get a macro lens. Tyler has the Laowa 100mm macro. I just purchased the Sony 90mm macro and have been fiddling with that. Another good photographer to follow is Michael Vargas. He'd have some good insights as well!

    this is why having algae in you system is needed I have a homemade algae scrubber with a hang on the back aqua clear large with a ph f at least 8.5 24/7 cause I have hair algae working 24/7 and my nitrates got to 150+ and wa there for a long time so I ca believe him when he says every .1 you go up with ph you can have 10 more nitrates because my tank was happy .

    the whole talk about the redfield ratio is incorrect although 100:1 is what corals love the best from a tank level. People talk about nitrates to phosphates with the redfield ratio but it's actually nitrogen : phosphorus, thats the redfield ratio. Anyway 100:1 is ideal when were talking about nitrates to phosphates

    Since subscribing to your Chanel a few weeks ago I’m working my way through all your videos and this one is probably the most informative video I’ve seen and since getting into the hobby a couple of years ago I’ve watched hundreds of videos. Ryan’s explanation on PH and nutrients is the best so far and amazingly I understood his explanation. I’ve always had a high nutrient system (I like to feed my fish), phosphate usually 0.4-0.6 and nitrate 40-60ppm. I’ve always stressed about these high numbers even though I’ve never had an algae or Dino problem, and my corals (largely LPS) are all happy. I recently added a GFO reactor as I still want to get those numbers down as I would like to start dabbling in SPS, but I’m not going to stress about the high numbers as much now - so thank you for this great video!

Using Sodium Hydroxide and CO2 scrubber I can reach 8.6-8.7 PH but I am curious how to get it to stabilize this, as my low drop is 8.1-8.2 and ideally have it be 8.4-8.6 consistently would be amazing but just can't see to get there. Not complaining about the growth but would love to figure out the stability its been running this way for 1.5years.

    Please explain how kalkwasser is a detoxifier? There is no binding agent, you are still not adding elementals to alter / attempt to stabilize pH. Which automatically is going to vary with fish activity and lack thereof at different times of the day. Active fish use up more O2 and push out more CO2, with respiration. Same is happening with your timing of lights and whatever algae is growing. Light = photosynthesis and hence O2 production, and it’s inherent effects as well on pH. Not just nutrient and growth of algae with lights and photoperiod. Chasing pH and stable pH is physiologically not logical. Sorry.

    Take away point ---> If that's 70ppm nitrates and 0.6ppm phosphates, who the hell cares about nutrient levels when the tank is looking good otherwise?!

    • @BahamaLlamaCoral
      @BahamaLlamaCoral  2 года назад

      The ratio is important so remember that...I also thing have a large volume of water when running nutrients that high is a good thing.

    I've played with the idea of the kalk stirrer for years and it's literally sitting in the box. Not sure about efficient set up though

      No better time then now! Seems like there are a lot of eyes on kalk and PH right now.

    Holy sh*t that man is a wealth of knowledge. Honestly he dumbed it down or just the way he said it made sense. Envy of that tank/system. But this is/was an awesome video! Appreciate the hard work and taking us along for the ride.
    PS- I just took our Christmas stuff down only because HOA would have gave us a fine HAH or I would’ve be in the same boat as you!
    Great stuff man! I’m glad videos are making a come back on this channel. Don’t mind the review stuff for BRS but I feel your more of yourself on your own channel

    Fire system! I found pH boost was what really helped my acros grow. U still doing the clownfish breeding project?

    • @BahamaLlamaCoral
      @BahamaLlamaCoral  2 года назад +1

      The clownfish stuff is on hold right now. Clowns still spawning though. I haven't reared a clutch in awhile so I'm wondering if the eggs will be more viable now that mom has the hang of it!

    Hmmm might have to invest in a pH reader. Also watching this episode on the treadmill doesn't work.. those close up shots are too nice to be running and trying to look.😅

    Hey Remy fantastic video. A welcome departure from the endless sea of beginner oriented videos. It’s fascinating to hear someone break down advanced principles. Like a lot of hobbyists out there I’m not a pro but I’m far from a beginner. Your video fills that void. Really appreciate it.
