Outstanding job! At 75, I am new to model making and I have learned a lot from your video. Well done! Seeing paints you use by catalog number and how you blend them is useful.
Awesome job dude! There needs to be more tutorials like this. Everyone is always doing tanks and such. These detailed smaller pieces can really make a diorama.
WOW ..... what can I say ??? Great tutorial you have going here Adam, easy to listen to, no obnoxious back-ground music and best of all, your classic, %#&*-ups..... LoL.....Seriously though, I have watched countless tutorials on model making because I have just got back into it after a lay-away of a few years and needed brushing up on what to do and how. What I like about your lessons, is the fact that you 'fess-up' to your, %#&*-ups, and tell us how to remedy the situation..... The fact that I have watched so many of these instructional clips and found that no-one seemed to make mistakes, made me start to doubt my own capabilities.....LoL
Its not every day I get to watch a good process video, most are tutorials and such, but I believe its super important to know what brands people use to get the effects they show because not all paint reacts the same. Great job. I wish more people would make process vids.
There was a Tamiya 7.5 Pak 40 always crossing my path lately while visiting my stash..I nearly threw that thing away... Now I know what is next on my list.....I hope I can find that model again...=(.... BTW..I learned so much with this video about painting and weathering armor...Very nice and clear format.
WOW ! I thought that Tamiya Gun is for the trash nowadays. You proved me wrong and it is up to the modeler to do art out of it. Great Work! Greetings from Germany
Thanks, Adam! This was interesting to watch. I like that you also comment on the mistakes you think you made and the hick-ups you came across. I'm looking forward to more building videos from you.
Hi. I don`t usually comment on videos, but felt I needed to tell you that your channel is becoming one of my favourites on RUclips. Keep up the good work.
As other viewers have said, an informative video and an interesting subject. On the subject of primer, it is more than just paint. For want of a better expression it 'grabs' the plastic so that it adheres well and provides a good key for the first coat of paint to adhere to.
+Stephen Westrip Thank you. I understand primers, but when I was getting in to this about 2 years ago there was just too much debate and primer is also not cheap, so I started just using black paint. I think I've come to the point where I need to invest in primer, just haven't quite done it yet.
+Adam Mann Meant to say, for your shovel heads I paint then gun metal and then use a black wash (as many times as necessary) to get the desired effect.
Stephen Westrip ooh, that's a good idea. There are some new Vallejo metal paints I was going to try but that's sounds like a plan too. Who's gunmetal do you use?
Excellent tutorial as I have just bought this kit from ebay but it came without instructions; it was cheap! Looking for on-line instructions I came across this and it's given me some tips. Thank you.
When you were painting the shovel you said that it was too dark. I don't know if this will help, but what I do is first paint the shovel Matt black. Then I brush some Tamiya metallic grey over it. That's just my method. Just saying I only use black to set a base over the plastic color of my tools. A few good coats over the black with the metallic grey and you could achieve a good steel color. Hope my method will help you.
Nice little model Adam, like the weathering techniques and cool to see the paper under the tools painting, that technique has been around a long time. The part sticking up from the lower shield is the tail light.....you might want to paint the half circles red. One suggestion if I may...? The gun breech/slide could use a shinier silver color to bring out the wear more, it was very noticeable on the real guns.
Overall your end result was good Adam, very nice. Perhaps some finer quality brushes 000 and smaller , I have a bunch 000, 00000, micro small. For oils and acrylics. I have 4 of these kits with etch updates and metal barrels, and the dragon kit. As well as the PAK 3.7 cm With metal barrels. Your work is good Adam. Thank you for sharing , end product was beautiful
+Adam Mann I don't think you need to worry about the white oil on the legs. I'm sure if it'd been left our in the field for a long time, being exposed to moisture and cold, it would accumulate all sorts of strange forms of erosion and discolouration.
This looks awesome mate. I've just built the same kit. Not painted it yet though. I don't have an airbrush so don't think I'd be able to do this camo very well with brushes. I might have to just keep it simple and do it all german grey like the early ones
I made my pak 40 in a winter camo as also my hanomag half track so I can play with them into the snow and make like little ambush scene once I get a few inches of snow I may start posting some pics of a new pak I am getting
that is a beautiful build can you please do a video on the colors and paints used to paint and weather armor models and also how to used washes I am a car modeler do not know how to weather I want to build armor thanks
Hi, i'm gonna be building this model with the Tamiya winter German figures set as a mini diorama, are you going to make a winter camo. video ? Good work on the Pak40l46 , very nice, gonna start mine as soon as possible
+Mike Greck lead belcher is such a fantasic paint for "used" steel color. not really sold on alot of the other GW paints though. The washes are great though.
Awesome video Adam, I thoroughly enjoyed the "Michael" style of build/presentation.. I miss Michael's tutorials... Looks like I got a replacement modeller to follow for this way of "show and tell"... lol.. Well done again bud, the Pak 40 looks the business... All the best.. :0)
i still do quite a few of the building reviews, i never mass produced them anyway. it is just the pace i´m comfortable with, so nothing to miss there actually :)
Dude!!! buy some gloves! so you don't get fingerprints on your model. Great paint work Adam! The important question to ask is did you enjoy the build? This is a great result with this old model bud. Nicely done! Nice audio quality btw!!!
+TacticalJackalope Wait you're supposed to enjoy this? Gloves I don't think would be terribly fun to wear. Thanks for sayin it looks nice, I gotta say thanks again for the Mic, I wasn't sure how to do VO like this until I had that, so it's going have a huge impact on my channel. You're the man.
+Adam Mann Gloves are not bad. you get used to them quickly. If you get proper fitting ones they really become a joy to use. Had way too many projects get messed up because of finger prints.
cool video which goes very much into detail. i like that a lot! well done adam, next time a tiger tank maybe? :D i´m glad that you tried this out, quite a cool experience i guess.
Hi Adam, Happy New Year and thanks for the great tutorial. Amazing work. Are you going to build and paint the included crew? I have built the Tamiya 3.7 cm PAK and crew and will be using a few tips from you. Thanks again.
+David Barnard I think I will do the crew, I've just been working on a similar video to this of a Tiger tank. I think I'll eventually do the crew and a little dio up though. Thanks very much.
For the steel on the shovel, I typically use around 6 drops of "model master" steel, and 1 to 2 drops of Vallejo burnt umber. Any steel would probably work, but I'm a creature of habit when I find something that works. Give it a mix, I think you'll like the outcome. EDIT: Almost forgot... dirty it up / bring it down with a dark wash :)
+Nate Howard Is that enamels you're referring to with the model master? I'll try it with an acrylic. The idea of adding brown to it is fascinating. Thank you.
The model master is, yes. I don't typically like any "shine" on my builds, but I find that it does give tools kind of a cool effect. I can't stress enough giving it a wash with a good flat black though. I prefer Andrea for my small detail washes.
I would love to take credit, but I got the idea from Dave at Last Cavalry Historical Toys and Hobbies's series on painting figures with acrylics. I decided to take what he was doing, and add enamel for effect.. and boom, lol. It also made it easier to make small, 35 scale metals pop, in my easily humbled opinion.
Very informative - one question what air brush did you use? Would you recommend it for a beginner? If not do you have any suggestions? I just recently started building again. Thanks
+Derek W I have a bunch of them. I'm using a cheap Chinese Veda 120 these days. I am not the person to ask as I've only recently gotten good with them. Anything from Iwata and Harder and Steenbeck is good if you can afford it.
I'm building, with a friend, an older Tamiya kit (70s) that got left outside and dried up a lot. I'm wondering, do waterslide decals "dry up"? They looked really faded and refused to budge off the paper when we were applying them, and when we pushed the brush harder, the decal practically disintegrated.
+RandomCanEHdian I would think yes. I believe that once they have been activated (by getting wet) once you have only that time to apply them where they need to go.
Adam Mann They'd never been wetted before; they were just left in sunlight for weeks at a time on a shelf. Thanks for the quick reply & upload; I'm going to make one of these sooner or later. One last thing: DS tracks?
I noticed the two videos on this 7.5cm gun are your only Tamiya kits, at least what I could find on your videos anyway. Are you not a fan of the Tamiya kits? I would say 75% of my kits are Tamiya, Dragon 20% and the balance is made up of Academy & MiniArt. I DO love those MiniArt diorama kits for scenery & details. You have some great videos my friend and I like your work. Take care, Bo.
+Texas Hi-Railer I started with almost exclusively Tamiya but have gone to mostly Dragon now. Tamiya stuff as awesome as it is (I love the engineering) requires me to do a lot of scratch building and updating to make them look as detailed as I want them to, and Dragon a lot of times at least back a few years ago would be ready to go out of the box. When I had just started doing models again about 2 years ago I participated in a group build for Panther and Panther variants. Here's a link to the build thread if you're curious, it's kind of what I'm talking about. The painting and finishing on this one isn't as good as I can achieve now obviously, but the build is okay. www.intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?t=7125
Outstanding job! At 75, I am new to model making and I have learned a lot from your video. Well done! Seeing paints you use by catalog number and how you blend them is useful.
Hope your still enjoying modelling, made me happy! Hope it will for you and other people.
Richard Cavagnol amazing, being old makes seeing the detail a tad hard! Lots of lights and various glasses and magnifying visors.
Thanks very much man. These videos take a lot of work but they're worth it in the end. I really appreciate the compliment.
This has come out treat, Adam. Thank you for your tutorial, it was helpful and makes me want to dig it out of my stash.
There was a Tamiya 7.5 Pak 40 always crossing my path lately while visiting my stash..I nearly threw that thing away...
Now I know what is next on my list.....I hope I can find that model again...=(.... BTW..I learned so much with this video

Diablo,if you don't want it I will take it off of your hands.......... hahahahahahaha
WOW ! I thought that Tamiya Gun is for the trash nowadays. You proved me wrong and it is up to the modeler to do art out of it. Great Work! Greetings from Germany
Brilliant to watch, plenty of tips learned.
Thanks, Adam! This was interesting to watch. I like that you also comment on the mistakes you think you made and the hick-ups you came across. I'm looking forward to more building videos from you.
+localjedi Thanks very much. I'm cutting one together currently on a full tank build.
I never thought of the paper masking for the tools and shovels!!! Thank you for the tip!!!
It's so simple I think most people don't even think to do it. Just one of those weird things.
paint is going everywhere
I picked one of these up today. I look forward to assembling it
"Groovy" kit, turned out superb. Enjoy your channel very much.
Thanks very much. It didn't turn out too bad.
That is a great looking model. Excellent job. Love the weathering
Thanks very much Dalton
Hi. I don`t usually comment on videos, but felt I needed to tell you that your channel is becoming one of my favourites on RUclips. Keep up the good work.
Thanks very much, i appreciate that you did comment. Doing this stuff is time consuming, so knowing people like it is motivation to keep going.
+Adam Mann No problem, it is literally the least I can do :)
nice report, thanks for sharing your techniques
+AltCtrlFreak You're very welcome. I learned a lot from RUclips myself so it's my way of giving back I guess. I'll be doing lots more like this.
As other viewers have said, an informative video and an interesting subject.

ooh, that's a good idea. There are some new Vallejo metal paints I was going to try but that's sounds like a plan too. Who's gunmetal do you use?
I use Citadels Leadbelcher but only because I have a couple of pots of it. Any darkish gun metal would do.

very cool build, like your step step.
Thank you, i plan to do many mor this way.
Great job Adam.
Nice weathering, man. As usual, a nice work!
Thanks Jose, appreciate it.
Good job.
Great job adam! Thanks for sharing the info; I took down notes for my 70s British pounder

+Hamilkar Barkas Thanks Michael, It was fun for sure. Lots of work though. One of the series I'm filming is a Kursk Tiger.
+Adam Mann Nice work I'm doing the same kit I weathered it by hand .It's on G +
What’s your opinion on TS 3 rattle can dark yellow
I like it fine. It's a lacquer so dont use it indoors without an extractor. But it's the same color as xf60
Just curious how do you glue your pieces back on after painting
Hi Adam, Happy New Year and thanks for the great tutorial. Amazing work. Are you going to build and paint the included crew? I have built the Tamiya 3.7 cm PAK and crew and will be using a few tips from you. Thanks again.

As for the wash, that's just taking Andrea flat, and making a wash. A regular black (dark) wash would probably have the same effect..
Wich Airbrush are you using in this Video and can I also paint this with a brush ?
Very informative - one question what air brush did you use? Would you recommend it for a beginner? If not do you have any suggestions? I just recently started building again. Thanks

I built that Pak40 when i was a young'n
What colors did you use for painting the soldiers?
I'm building, with a friend, an older Tamiya kit (70s) that got left outside and dried up a lot. I'm wondering, do waterslide decals "dry up"? 16:59 how do you make the pigments stick?
Pigment binders, or just water
Enamel thinner works as well
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.. But in order to be a true disciple you must use revell paint lol. Kutgw. Nice work mate
Thanks very much. You can't even get Revell paints in the US.
mr hobby metal paints there bufferble
Interesting? Enamel?
trés bon travail, mais les bandages des roues gagneraient à être un peu salis, là on a l'impression qu'il sort de l'usine
what clear coat did you use
+Travis Ellis Future.
+Adam Mann. sweet thanks
*****
I still use it even though I have Tamiya and Alcald clear coats. It always works so I'm hesitant to adjust to a new one.
+Adam Mann. ive never clear coated any of my tanks or weathered them so this video was a good lesson
*****
Vheck out the Wittmann Tiger part 2 video I did if you want to see my process on a tank. It's pretty long though.
Finished painting mine 👍 video is on my page check it out I used a lot of your weathering techniques cheers for the vid
