I really liked watching this build on my commute to work this morning thanks Sandy I hope that someone opens a shop in New Haven Connecticut like yours someday
No way. I am building a Tamiya Hezter right now! I was going to paint it up like a vehicle we saw at a reenactment, but changed my mind. I LOVE how the ambush scheme turned out. Very nice ad-lib on your part. Love your videos, man.
joelcful Ditto! Whenever I need inspiration bogged down in a build or frustrated by my pedanticism detailing, I come and watch Andy's vids to reinvigorate my perspective and remind me why and how we should be approaching the hobby. First class all the way Andy.
I always enjoy watching Andy hard at work, but,I have a few different ideas about track & hatch assembly.First we'll start off with hatch assembly. My favorite way to do hatches is to glue them all with white glue from underneath with them sitting in their closed position,That way,if you ever want to add crew or have engine decks open for a diorama, the hatches are easy to pop open. For individual link track,I take a wooden ruler(because they are dimensionally thicker to help guide track assembly),and tape that down along its length to hold it in place. Then run tape along side the ruler on both sides ,with the sticky side up.Then tape down the ends,so the tape stays in place.Get your track removed and cleaned up from the sprue, then stick it to the tape along the ruler edges to its proper length, then run glue along the length of track on both sides ,on the inside, next to the guide horns,Then let it sit for a few moments(2-3 minutes, and depending on your adhesive selection,2-3 minutes is pretty good)now with the road wheels already on the vehicle, slide a razor knife between the track and tape to( remove it from the tape)and drape it carefully over the roadwheels, join the track together, let it sit for a few more moments, then add your sag if so desired.Paint according to your taste and its all done.I don't mean to pee on Andy's parade, but doing it this way, assures that the track glue is going to dry at all the same time, and none of it should be too wet or too dried to install.Like i said Andy does an amazing job on his projects, and I would be proud to own one of his creations.
Great! I liked a lot the cardboard template. And the small cammo fine brush, gives live to the pattern. Hetzer always gives you good ideas to paint it!
Andy, thank you so much for this video. Santa just delivered this kit to me today for christmas (but i can't touch it until then). Love the hetzer, but was put off by the paint scheme and wasn't going to do such an elaborate camouflage. But your video has shown me it's not that bad, and there are always different ways of doing things. Again, thank you. keep them coming.
thankyou andy for another great build. i work long hours and wish i had more time for model making. But your videos seem to help with my cravings !! once again many thanks from good old England
Haha, just search 2 days ago "Academy Hetzer Andy's Hobby Headquarters", i got the mailman deliver me this Hetzer, but not start yet, great video and really helpful for my next build!
Great job Andy and unusual to see an Academy build rather than Tamiya, not that I mind, I love Tamiya kits. I would love to see a couple more Tamiya Plane builds if you don't mind. Many thanks and have fun, Joe
The disc camo is really tricky to pull off. First of all the matte, you need to take out the spaces in-between the circles, you apply your yellow with your green and brown spots and then you put the matte over your green and brown and spray yellow over your matte, filling in the spaces and thus creating all green and brown circles. But like I said, it’s really hard to do it right. The perforated cardboard works just as good and the handprinted dots look very natural. Great looking model...
what a nice piece of art! your models are beautiful, and you make it seem so easy. I cant wait to get an airbrush, because i simply can't get a believable camo pattern using brushes so i paint my models in plain dark yellow, and i really want an ambush pattern, i looks so beautiful on a tank
Don't worry for the airbrush, a lot of AFV were issued from the factory in dark yellow plus some colours in paste, It was up the crew's initiative to paint the camo with wathever they had and old brooms were very useful
@@alessiodecarolis I know, but i wanted a nice transition between two tones. So i got one and boy did it make a difference. Plus, it makes painting the model much easier and it uses way less paint overall.
Andy J's Work do two different 1/35 Hetzer camo scheme templates, one of which is the "cloud" pattern suitable as a direct replacement for the Academy kit templates which can be applied with or without autumnal triangles. The are easier to use than the kit template. In the J's Work "cloud" pattern template kit, a trianglular splinter template is included. The camo including tri colour splintering over cloud was factory applied. Nice build vid as always.
This kit seems to a favorite among the modeling community. I've seen a lot of RUclipsrs go through this kit, like Hamilkar, IvantheTerrible, and TacticalJackalope.
Ethan Ton The why is that it's also fairly accurate dimensionally depending upon whose argument one accepts as the word from the burning bush. Academy took the mean from both accepted as such reference sources, and split the difference down the middle. It looks like a Hetzer, the build quality isn't far off Tamiya excellence, it includes plastic part and link tracks, and the price is very, very right. Not knocking Tamiya's, but with the savings you can buy a bucketload of etch inc. metal barrel which revs Academy's up a notch above. Have a look at Artwox's comprehensive etch kit for this (late variant) kit which is what I used, although I confess mounting those microscopic casemate lifting hangers nearly drove me nuts.
Andy, Be great if you offered the Valleo washes, pigments ETC. on your online store. They are actually hard to find locally and pretty much only available for a decent price on Amazon. Thanks!
I picked up a Fisker's 1/8 inch hole punch @ Joann Fabrics recently (with my 50% off coupon from a previous purchase it was less than $8) to use for 1/72 & 1/48 German mottle pattern but I see it could also be used for something like this!
Nice job Andy, even at a 1/35 scale it looks pretty small. It would be nice of more of the kits came with Camo masks, but then where's the fun in that :-)
Hi Andy, Joey here all the way across the pond in Ireland. Just want to say I am addicted to your vids and find them absolutely amazing! They have helped me transform my model making from mediocre to, well, pretty good. What I would like to know is how you made your little turntable that you pose your finished kits on. It's a very handy piece of kit and makes airbrushing look so much easier. Keep them videos coming.....I'm so looking forward to new ones in the future. Thanks Andy.
This is a nice little kit but be really, really careful with those little top wheels (not the main idler wheels, the other little ones. I can't remember what they're called). They only go on one way and it's really easy to get them horribly wrong. Thanks for your weathering tips Andy. I was looking to do basically the same thing but with the early model, top coated in _dunkelgelb_. I'm also planning to do a bit of shooting the airbrush through a partially loaded brush for splash effects.
I'm building the Airfix Academy rebox just now it's only 23 bucks just now really nice kit instructions abit veaige but the detail is like Tamiya new moulds its reminding me of the new 1.48 Matilda mould but in 1.35 really nice fine detail.
Idea! As in this you also went ahead and attached the photo etched grill for some of us photo etched is a relatively new upgrade in that thought a video of do's n don'ts of gluing sanding handling and application also bending just a thought cheers
Tracks like that always look fantastic but I have such a pain trying to paint it with the airbrush, and really just generally the small details like black rubber edges of wheels and such.
Richard Tallent well I know this particular kit is newer tooling and has photoetch “ only one or two pieces but that makes a difference “ plus this kit was only like 15 dollars more than tamiya. If I can get a new academy kit over an older tamiya for only a few dollars more,I will. I’m a fan of tamiya value too
yes it would have I just wasn't thinking ahead when I was building, but also the mask is designed to go on only one way so it was kind of difficult to get it just right.
Really nice model - One thing I would like to argue is, go easy on the weathering - first of all, just because it's a hard edge doesn't mean the paint should be chipped, secondly, vehicles are generally well maintained, so whenever you bring it in for say a oil checkup, the mechanics can slap a fresh coat of paint onto it. And, the paint they used was HARD, simply because it was supposed to protect the vehicle from the weather, which means there were quite little of the chipping, and most of it could be found a) wherever the crew entered and exited the vehicle, and b) around the wheels, since they stood in constant contact with shit that is strong enough to actually damage the paint. Another thing to remember is that many vehicles came into the field either brand new or refurbished, so they wouldn't have that kind of weathering, and since most vehicles didn't survive more than a few months, they wouldn't have had time to accumulate that much either. So go easy on the weathering. That said, tanks and other vehicles attract dirt like if they are 3 year old children, so with that you can go absolutely crazy. Oddly enough, most modellers seems to get this reversed - lot's of weathering, but stay cool with the dirt... All that said, there are exceptions, like the Syrian tanks in the civil war right now seems to hang together with only really good prayers to Allah, at least the older types they have used now for years. But even they are kept rolling.
Hey Andy. loving your build videos! Do you consider denting, bending, and maybe even throwing out some of the parts on your more heavily weathered models?
Looks great andy. Germans use the same technique as you with this paint scheme. Basically had a template of these circles. Next time, try curving out eraser to a shape of )(, and that makes a great stamp for all the dots :)
Thank you Andy. I finally learned how to make tracks properlly ! No longer hell for me !
I really liked watching this build on my commute to work this morning thanks Sandy I hope that someone opens a shop in New Haven Connecticut like yours someday
The camo paint came out awesome. Beautiful weathering.
Thank you
Just built this during my "stay at home order". Excellent kit, the best detailed Hetzer on the market.
No way. I am building a Tamiya Hezter right now! I was going to paint it up like a vehicle we saw at a reenactment, but changed my mind. I LOVE how the ambush scheme turned out. Very nice ad-lib on your part. Love your videos, man.
That was a very good kit , well done Andy the paint scheme looks brilliant
Thank you Robert
You fly through these models, i would love that job. You do a great job, thanks for the tips.
thank you

Thank you , I'm glad you are having fun , that's why we do this great hobby.Thank you for watching.
Hi Andy,
Another great job, keep going strong and enjoying the time building, many thanks for sharing.

Excellent idea for the pattern camouflage masking.
Merci beaucoup Andy !
Great! I liked a lot the cardboard template. And the small cammo fine brush, gives live to the pattern. Hetzer always gives you good ideas to paint it!
Finished model looks just like the picture on the box. Perfecto!
Thanks Andy. Appreciate your time and efforts. I am learning a lot.
Thank you steve
Very nice build Andy, the Academy kits are great value for whats in the box.
yes nice easy kits at decent price
Awesome save on the camo scheme!
Thank you

Love the stencil idea, it came out well. I might try it myself with 28mm scale. Cheers for the tips!.
Nice job on the Hetzer, especially the ambush camouflage.
thankyou andy for another great build. i work long hours and wish i had more time for model making. But your videos seem to help with my cravings !! once again many thanks from good old England
Thank you, I m glad you like them
Love your videos man I try to watch them but i end up falling to sleep just soothing
Finally! I saw this kit for like $15 and I really wanted to get it but I couldn't find any good videos on it. Thanks Andy! :D
Thank you for watching
Haha, just search 2 days ago "Academy Hetzer Andy's Hobby Headquarters", i got the mailman deliver me this Hetzer, but not start yet, great video and really helpful for my next build!
Looks awesome. Brilliant job on the camo... fantastic idea using a hole punch to make your own mask. Will have to try that! Cheers!
Just picked up this kit, this is one of my favorite tank destroyers and I’m excited my favorite hobby RUclipsd has a vid about it!
Awesome video Andy! Hetzers are my favorite, so I was really excited to see that you built one
...Love Your German Armour Andy.!....I'm building the Graf Spee from Revell....1-350 scale...Tricky start..But looking alright...
Thank you for the wonderful production video, I placed an order today.😍😍😁😁
You've got a great hobby, Andy!
Turned out awesome! This is my next kit.
Wow great build and paint job as always Andy
Thank you
Andy you build models like Mozart wrote music, thax for sharing!
이 제품은 초보자에게 좋은 제품이며 가격의 비해서 내용물이 푸짐해서 좋은 제품입니다
This product is good for beginners and is good because it has a lot of contents compared to the price
That was a nice and a spiffy build Andy. Thumbs up!
Thank you it was fun
Great Job again Andy, it looks good. You are a inspiration. Greetings from Germany
Great job Andy and unusual to see an Academy build rather than Tamiya, not that I mind, I love Tamiya kits. I would love to see a couple more Tamiya Plane builds if you don't mind. Many thanks and have fun,
Joe
Thank you Joe
Cool tank I am going to begin this hobby and the hetzer will be my first model tank
I was just about to get one of these. Always on top Andy!
That's great, enjoy it , fun little build.

What kit # is that?

Hopefully one of my next model kits! Looks great! Ambush pattern might scare away though.😆
the nice part about hetzer the camo patterns can be just dark yellow to every kind of ambush
...Love The Classical Music.!

Un gran trabajo, una vez más,pero la pintura es una pasada
Nice weathering.
Nice job Andy, even at a 1/35 scale it looks pretty small. It would be nice of more of the kits came with Camo masks, but then where's the fun in that :-)
old reply i know but its a pretty tiny tank irl
i like to call it the pocket panzer
Fine job ! Well done !

what are you using for your olive green and red brown / chocolate brown on this?
You did a really good job on this tank
Wow what a tiny panzer compared to that Takom King Tiger behemoth. Well done! Could you please give us a 1 minute camera sweep of your panzer gallery?
What paints did you used?
that very beautiful kit .

Thank you
I'm really interested in trying some of the pigments you use. I've never used those before. I'm anxious to give them a try.

love that tank
Great job,Andy! I'm sorry, what color did u use for a green camouflage? Olive Drab? thank u for the answer
Love Hetzers!
Love your videos, any plans for the Tamiya Bismarck??
what is the best color for the hetzer without camo for the grey one..
nice work on the ambush camo
Thank you
Espectacular 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love your work, very nice. I do think the exhaust is in the wrong position, it should be pointing down more.
What color did you use?? It is awesome
I wonder how good this academy kit is compared to tamiya's hetzer kit?

yes it would have I just wasn't thinking ahead when I was building, but also the mask is designed to go on only one way so it was kind of difficult to get it just right.
hello superb realization but why you have not done and put the two menbre crew of the tank which are with in the box damage really
very nice Andy! I have been thinking about building a Hetzer myself.
What color did you use for the redbrown camoflague? Looks very nice.
Thank you, I use nato brown xf67 because after dull coat it darkens up

What sort of wizarding magic do you use to paint the tracks and tires while they’re already assembled? Wonderful build by the way!
Nice job Andy
How much pressure did you use with the dark yellow?
Good job!
Thank you
Hey Andy, whose brand tweezers do you use?
Hey Andy. loving your build videos! Do you consider denting, bending, and maybe even throwing out some of the parts on your more heavily weathered models?
Can i paint my models with just a regular spray bottle im new at model building so i need tips
What green did you use?
Can you list the paint colors your using?,I want to do this on a Tiger 1.
Awesome build.
Can you tell me what i can use to lubricant my needle for my airbrush
I'm Just starded to use one

Andy is there after market rubber Tracks for this kit?
awesome build an painting like always! But something is wrong with the angle of the exhaust. Maeby you can still fix that.
Love your videos!
Hi. What is clear coat and whar does it do? Does tamiya make that?
So you let the Tracks in NATO Black? Thx
Hetzer gonna hetz :^) just search it up
Looks great andy. Germans use the same technique as you with this paint scheme. Basically had a template of these circles. Next time, try curving out eraser to a shape of )(, and that makes a great stamp for all the dots :)
Thank you , next time I'm going to try your stamp idea , sounds good, thanks for watching.
I love the hetzer
Nice building indeed. But did you notice you assembled muffler in a wrong position?
Awesome video! Any ideas on where to find "wash" pigments and liquids without going online. And i think im from the same area as you.
Then go to Andy's store
Nice work, Andy)
Thank you
that little metal thing you use to get the small bits in place, what is that called?
tweezers
