- Don't believe everything you think! Many of our thoughts can be the source of amusement if we learn how to discover our inner sitcom. Life does not have to be a stress rehearsal. When we explore how to "lighten up", we also help to "lighten up" the world.
Loretta Laroche.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
"If you think the worst and get the worst, you suffer twice." I needed to hear that one! Good stuff.
me too!!
It's legendary
Thank you personal computer to years ok studyn personal
Thanks for the vid. Another good source is the book "30 Days to Reduce Stress" by Harper Daniels.
Such a great affirmation.
"Become the fun you're seeking." I loved this - the most valuable, hilarious, inspirational TED talk ever.
wow!
made my day!.
I came across Loretta over 30 years ago on a trip to USA .It was a Humour Conference !
she was the stand-up!
I picked up some videos etc Will did them out or follow her here.
I remember one quip"
"I have the furniture disease: my chest has dropped into my drawers" something similar.
Most women would relate to that!
gosh I am enjoying it all again.
"I'm back. I could've gone somewhere else. you're damn lucky I'm back." I'm gonna say that every day from now on.
Whenever I feel my anxiety turning into a panic attack at nights, I'm watching this and I feel better...This TED talk is legendary
Same , I was feeling filled with anxiety but this made me laugh and helped me !
I saw you lecture 35 years ago. We laughed throughout your entire lecture. At the end, my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. Now, it's much harder to get people to laugh. Thanks for your longevity and hard work!
Me too! Was it really 35 years ago? I think I'm going to go and find some neighbors right now. :)
really!! I want to hear that lecture. Is it in RUclips?
@@mebods It was at a college.

A co-worker went to our boss maybe 12 years ago and told him she was concerned about me. She thought I was depressed and needed help. My boss called me in his office and gave me a phone number to our company's life line. They sent me a booklet and a stress relief CD by her. I had it in my car for at least 8 years. My granddaughters had it memorized and would ask me to play it often.
That's beautiful! 💖
Good co-worker, good boss, a lot of companies have 'done away' with consideration for their employees. Mental health has largely been relegated to 'someone else's problem'.

jb pb : Others looking outward, what a blessing😌.
Aww
77????? Heck! She looks like 45 to 50! God bless her heart and soul, she is very smart, funny and sweet
Ihsan Deeb She’s obviously learned how to handle stress. I’m taking notes! Wasbands was the best. 😆 Become the witness to yourself. Great stuff!
I thought like 55 myself.
she looks 65 to me. but yeah looks super good for 77
that's what happens when you're unproblematic
My thoughts exactly. I hope I can see her again. Good stuff.
Suffering from depression and anxiety this is a wake-up call. Should watch it every morning. Off to buy a red nose.
So Hudson, how is your red nose working? Wonderful I hope. I have a red nose and plan on starting to use it. LOL
Omg! I love that you guys are implementing her suggestion. Nothing more beautiful than someone making an effort to better their life ❤️ Jesus reign over you !
This was EXACTLY what I needed this morning. From debilitating anxiety to laughter 🤣
Same ….
Loretta diserves a standing ovation! Bravo!
Loretta LaRoche is the queen of managing stress with humor. I so appreciate how she delivers important (serious), researched stress management guidance in a fun, repeatable, and memorable way. She demonstrates meaningful humor. Bravo Loretta!
she best too funny so on point
Agreed !!
What a beautiful comment!
Love the longevity you shared with us, ❤️
@@vak5461 my pleasure.
"Become a witness to your own behavior"...... omg....... what a, ah - ha moment.
I so need to remember this. Brilliant
This statement is soo True
WHY are there ANY dislikes on this?! She is wonderful. Shared! ❤
KD Hovis too busy squeeeeezing
KD Hovis I know!!! Can you believe there were 146 dislikes when I watched it!!?!? Some people are just, like Loretta said, walking through life with their butts puckered up... just squeezing like a big dog!, So funny 😂 wasn’t she??!
A certain amount of dislikes are Bots
Those are the ones who are still clinching their butts.
Look ; your all doing It! She was right !
My mother told me that I came into the world laughing.
I always try to look at the funny side of things and am STILL told to "grow up" or to "be a man". The (mischievous) "little boy" in me has never left and might be what keeps me from looking my 60+ years. Having no children probably helps too. 😆
My wish is to exit the world laughing, or with a smile on my face.
It's been a GREAT life and I owe it ALL to my parents. ❤
Thank you. 🙏
Becoming a witness to our own behavior allows us to adjust our self talk! This talk was so inspiring!
One of the best TED talks I have ever seen!! When are you starting your stand-up comedy tour?
She's been on tour for more than 35 years.
I was in such a deep depression that the first time I laughed, I gave myself a serious headache. I mean a painfully throbbing, aching headache. It felt unnatural to laugh & thank God for Advil & cold compress that gave me relief. Happy to report that more I laughed the less & less of a headache I got until it finally went away. I have been headache-free for over a year now unless you count family. 😃😃
Unbelievable 😂😂😂
One of the best talks ever! The world needs more light-hearted people like you ❤
Loved her, soo much is true and we can share our drama on Facebook. We need more humor for sure.
let us be one of the people 😆would be fun
and realistic people who are aware of how insane we have become
I totally agree!
" Become the fun you are seeking."
Why I never thought of it that way? I needed to watch this. Thank you Loretta. You are amazing.
'become the fun you're seeking'
"Sisters perpetual mood disorder" 😀 This woman got me through today - needed something to distract me when I felt panic building ... job done
This caught my attention too..😂😂
damn i should watch this talk everyday before leaving the house
I am..😂👌
Yes, I Agree!!
I feel the same
Fab idea!!
going to do that since now, at least every now and then. Reminds you that life isnt that bad and its actually fun and not a 'struggle', we forget ourselves so much that we really do need reminders like this.
"If its nice here they tell where it is awfull" lolololo my day 😂😂😂
"Why suffering in advance?" "When you lighten up, it shows your humility and it really breeds your connection to other people, because we're all vulnerable!" Love this!
I never walked into a Cemetery, where the Tombstone said " Did everything, died anyway"! Lol!😄👌😃👍
Good life attitude perspective! Bra👏vo!
Inteso Paisana!
Right! 🤭! OMG! I want that on my headstone now! 🤣😁🤣
We need more of this lady.
honestly, I need her to be my aunt!
in all seriousness, this is one of the best ted talks ever
OMG! I was laughing so hard I was crying alone at the office. Thank you, I really needed this wake up call!
I laughed so hard I had tears run down my face; and then cried for real. This was worth a standing ovation!
This is one of the best Tedtalks I have watched so far, indeed if you can laugh at yourself it shows great humility.
Xhčaqq
One of the best TED X talks ever. She is funny, realistic and shows us how to laugh at ourself in a marvelous comedic interpretation of our lives
Brilliant talk! "I can tell you, people are going insane!" = even truer now we've reached 2021! I just loved the straight-talking...very refreshing approach indeed!
Even truer now in2022 than in 2021
I have never laughed outloud (literally) while listening to a Ted talk until now. She’s my inspo on how to be more light-hearted! ♥️
Loretta is officially one of my favorite people EVER! This talk came to my attention at a very poignant crossroad in my life and truly helped me. Revisit this constantly... uplifting, lighthearted and such a pleasure to hear. Thank you, Ma'am, an absolute inspiration!
Hey Loretta thank you from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean I love it love it love it yr method of teaching is enlightening. Love you be safe
Loretta! My mom used to take us to see her at the Z. She has always had this great view of life. Thank you for the smiles.
She’s not helping calm the ever arrogant New Yorker who lives inside me!! 🤣😂🤣 We do tell great stories and absolutely own a particular kind of suffering only close decedents of immigrants can know! Many of our stories thread through most of our ethnic families - guilt, suffering, anxiety, for many scarcity, (no matter how wealthy) and the ability to laugh our asses off at it all frequently! Miss my old neighborhood in the Bronx which was well blended so I could connect so easily with others from all places all my life.
Back to this gorgeous speaker; thank you for sharing your wisdom and healing humor my Sicilian Buddha Sibling 🙏🏾😁
I have watched soo many talks but never commented , this was the best one 😁
I need to rewatch this every week to remind myself not to take life so seriously 😂
quite possibly my favorite ted talk ever
This speech was like a warm hug :3 Imma have it on a repeat every morning
Love her sense of humour and her sincerity :-)
I think watching this will be part of my morning routine the next weeks
I really got “tranquillo“ when I found this
sympathetic, truthful and authentic description of a live, that is lived and handles today’s problems and every day life with healthy consciousness.
It’s more than storytelling. It’s not elaborated code, it’s just what people should consume 100 times, to keep standing, to feel better and to be the person they are. That’s the only thing to stay healthy, to Keep standing real life. It’s more than medicine, it’s holistic. It’s from 2016, but it’s for eternity!
"Why suffer in advance?" Looool! Good talk 😄❤❤❤
The best ever! Almost feeling Sylvia was talking to Nanny Fran in The Nanny. Love! The best!
Very inspiring.
Highly motivating.
Funny.
Humorous.
Laughter.
Energetic.
Gems of knowledge.
I have watched soo many talks but never commented , this was the best one 😁
I cracked up most of the talk :) She really lightened up my day

I love you Loretta! I discovered you 21 years ago at a workshop, went out and bought your VHS tapes (yes VHS!). Shortly upgraded to DVDs. I would invite people over to watch you and get double enjoyment from watching everyone else enjoy you AND get Loretta Lighten Up refresher. I lost you in my shift to New Zealand 14 yrs ago, but I've found you again! And you look AMAZING!
I love this woman, totally agree with everything she says. Laughter is the best medicine ❤️.
Where can i adopt this lady, my family needs her.
Me too
Don't adopt her, be more like her and bring this to your circles!

I’m so happy I listened to this after a lonnngg day 😂
Thank u.. May God bless this world with more and more people like u.
I come from an Italian family in Brooklyn and I can say that I miss those days very much. No more family left, no community, life moves so fast, so sad...awful.

“Why suffer in advance?”.
“Ya gotta see the funny, ya really do”. Inspiring!
This is possibly the best TED Talk I've ever seen
I was going to start with 'I don't usually like TED talks' but I don't have a whip in my drawer hahaha! So I'll say, you are refreshingly funny and proof that light-heartedness is a big strength. There is a time for more serious conversation and action and a time for dancing and laughter.
One of the best Ted Talks I've ever watched, thank you!
I love this woman! I could listen to her forever! She is unique and funny and very refreshing!
I agree. I have watched same video for the 2nd time today

Absolutely needed to see this today! A great thanks to my blended case manager Olivia who is more than just a worker but a very identified individual who helps others without any expectations in return!
The light-hearted people got what she told and asked to do,
Becoming a witness to our own behavior.
Best Ted Talk ever! Amazing Lady😁👍🏿
I loved this. 🥰🥰🤣🤣🤣 Another great tip is writing comedy about your experiences, explain what it’s like being you and share it with others. Like this lovely being is doing. Hope that helps someone. It’s amazing 😉 I’ve worked through some big stuff using comedy as therapy. Wishing you all a really loving peaceful day. Hang tight, this too shall pass 😍😍😍😍😍
Omg!! I was just telling myself to stop complaining! And laugh about it! Cause this is crazy!! This anxiety, stress, worry is on my nerves. 😩😩🤣🤣🤣🤣 I miss my fun self!! This actually saved my sanity. Thank you universe for guiding me here!!!

This is the first talk that's made me laugh out loud. This lady teaches us a great lesson that never takes your life too seriously. Enjoy every tiny moment of life. When you start laughing at yourself you will forget half of the problems of your life.
Standing ovation!!!! Thank you!!! You are a treasure dear lady!!!
“I call em my wasbens” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The best ted talks I have seen. Thanks for enjoying talk. You are amazing.
If you think the worst & get the worst you suffer twice. If you think the best & get the worst you only suffer once. … What a great way to look at it. This inspires me to lighten up
That's what I call a brilliant speech. Thank you so much for sharing. I loved it.
I practice what she preaches on most days.
I love Loretta! My dads 83 and still a natural comedian my mum 75 and always laughing at my dads jokes.. They are both in the best of health and mind states due to having a sense of humour :-) Best medicine out there is to have fun, laugh and never grow up. One of the best TED talks I have seen :-) Thank you Loretta your beautiful x
"We've become human doing, we're no longer human beings" needed to hear that.
She has a meaningful content with powerful delivery method.
Will be glad to hear her more videos.
She is the best
Couldn't stop laughing and relating
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Everything she says is so true, that's why it's so funny! 👏👏👏 Thing is, every time I laugh something bad will follow to make me sad again.
Drama is an ADDICTION and a state of MIND...THAT CAN BE CHANGED!
I am so very happy & glad I found Loretta's Ted Talk - as I have listened to many Ted Talks - & loved them! But, this one was the icing on the cupcake 🤣🤣🤣 OMG - I totally had 2 listen 3 times in a row just 2 get the extraordinary laughs - again and again- so addictive! I believe it needs or should be created into an "entry-level" freshman course in my opinion- all about growing up- how 2 learn what "Being Human" is all about. I definitely will research more about her educational talents, books, etc. to share with so many that will learn from her work experiences.
