I knew this had to happen. Beyond the immaculate technical and narrative aspects, my favourite part of John Wick is exactly the way it represents a "rail shooter" style of action we don't see all that often in Western works: the badass protag is a badass not because he's better-equipped or better-powered, but because he's just THAT incredibly skilled and familiar with his one trusty handgun. It's an aesthetic that comes up much more often in Japanese works like Trigun, Noir and Cowboy Bebop, and one I've loved ever since Time Crisis.
TC is a "Parody" of western action movies like Commando or Rambo. In fact, I think that the Time limit concept would be a reference to Speed. The ending is similar to Jurassic Park.
I'd have snuck in some Siegfried quotes from Soul Blade (PSX) "Take..." "THIS." "NO-ONE CAN STOP ME!" "I will not rest until I reap VENGEANCE for my Father!!"
I always wondered about the lives those henchmen had. Like did they have kids and worked that dangerous job to support them? Was it their last day? What was the pension plan? 😅
The henchmen in this movie are so weak that they die only one shot of a handgun. Video game characters are way stronger than these henchmen. They can survive with 5 shots of handgun. 😂
