- With Powell Peralta's film “The Search For Animal Chin,” it was the Chin ramp that stole the show. The ramp was unfathomable in size and featured large extensions, larger channels, a mini ramp on its deck, a vert spine, and a tunnel. After Tim Payne built it, the Bones Brigade had just three days to skate it before it was gone forever. Now, 30 years later, we hear from Payne and the Brigade about their personal experiences with the ramp and the amazing times they had together skating and shooting for this iconic film.

When I was 11 years old, I bought my first Tony Hawk skateboard in 1986 in San Diego, CA and then brought it back to Buffalo, NY and started the entire skate scene there. We skated every single area that could be found including building ramps, grinding every curb and hitching free rides off the back of moving cars around town.
We watched Animal Chin video many times and even posted Animal Chin flyers around town that said " Have you seen him". It was so much fun!
I highly doubt you started an “entire skate scene” but cool story otherwise.

I love Lance's self-efacement. I understand it's about deep pain ... but he spreads love and invites people into life with that humility and has such love for the opportunities he experiences.
I'm having a "man tear" right now.... Mid 40s and I'm still skating. The Chin movie summed up my skating at that time. Seeing the original brigade skating again today like the same bunch of young fellas from 30 yrs ago. Thank you so much for doing this. You all influenced thousands of us old boys. Skate forever.

It's so crazy see this video today, I saw aninal chin when I have 14 years old, today I got 42, still skating, play on a band, man this smells like fancy, wonderful!! Thx for this awesome work. Skate or Die!!! Till the end.
This makes me so happy! Search for Animal Chin informed and shaped my childhood, and thus my life. I watch it all the time. Can't wait to watch them skate it!!!

48 and I have my board posted right next to front door. With wheel scuff marks on the drywall and all .. I don't have as big as Ollie holes in my vans though.. Lol

I just rewatched the OG flick, wow what a trip down memory lane.
I told Steve last year on Facebook that it was time for Chin II. Or maybe a slightly glitzed out modern take on it (since Stacy is fully capable now) simply titled "CHIN" I know he wants to because a few days later he mentioned it and tagged the rest of the brigade on FB and Twitter.

This whole movie is basically my childhood. I lived in Florida so didn't have the Cali vibe, but I watched this movie every day with my buds then we would go skate. After exercising in our house of course ...Smith and 1 and sad and 2 and varial and 3......
I would give anything to have a time machine and go back to my local sports store with $5000. Buy every Powell deck. (and a couple danforth Alva's......) edit after watching them walk in. where are the old school boards? the hell with the current junk!

OMG this is awesome!!! Me and my friends wore out 4 copies of Animal Chin back in the day, I still have an original VHS copy. The ramp at the end was so cool. We built a 12 foot vert half pipe with a 6 foot mini spine. It inspired us so much. 8]
Still looking for Chin! I loved this video when I was a kid and I love it now. Always leaves me inspired and a little wistful. So rad to hear the story behind it and really looking forward to what you guys have in store next!

It's fucked up, right? Cab looks like every old Filipino/Mexican guy i know and it's hilarious. But seeing ageless Lance finally looking old is so weird.
I spent a good decade watching the vids of that guy filming and wondering if he was the lowkey best ever. Smoothest lines while also framing the shot while everyone else did the razzle razzle. Most complex game imaginable.

Everybody can have crazy ramps, once you have your own home, just gather as much wood from the dumpsters behind woodwork places, over weeks or months...maybe buy the sheets, you can build anything...with enough time...hell, it's pretty quick, l built a vert in a few months...l'm gonna add miniramps, fun boxes, pyramids...it's easy. Just takes patience and work.

The fact it got tore down is why Powell never really got "respect" they had an awesome team but that "exclusivity" that Hawk mentions was a crappy attitude . Loved Animal Chin at the time though .!
turgid fungus it got torn down because it was on a persons land illegally. And they almost didn’t get to film it at all because the owner of the land showed up after it was built and Stacey lied to him and told him it was for kids with some kinds of issues I believe. Which for absolute sure was not a cool thing to say if it’s a true story but he told them they were the best in the world and they would immediately tear it down after 3-5 days which they HAD to do or deal with the law. Kinda bizarre how it all went on but who am I to judge? I am no one

The crew that built it demolished it because it was built without permission on public land. They would have been forced to tear it down eventually anyway.

Here is what drives me crazy... I grew up watching these dudes skate, and of course I watched Animal Chin. I could have sworn that at the end, they burn down the ramp! That is what I thought for over 25 years. But when I watched it again, after 25 years, I realized that they did NOT burn it down! So how the heck did I think that!? What made me think that? I googled all over the place and tried to find a ramp that was burned down to see if simply mistaken that event with the end of Animal Chin. But I was not able to find anything. Does anyone know of giant Halfpipe being burned down!? Thanks.
