@@LG-ne6or Agreed, I just took 1/128" off all around the pin, I used a #60 or 80 grit flap disk on my angle grinder and smoothed it with a flat file. The difference in diameter was 0.015". One could do it with just a flat file if needed.
Use eye protection and a good 3M dust mask if you use a power sander or grinder to avoid galvanized (zinc) dust. I just did a test fit for any tight spots and put some grease on it. I did mount my offset facing away from the fence allowing the stationary pin bracket to be rotated in more - this allows the flat bar to set flat on the rail (no stair step bump on the mounted side) and the gate can open more that way. The angle of the pole clamp with the pin (the chain link pin hinge for 2 3/8 posts) is set so the fence (or rails) align flat on the finished side. Once the angle is set, then your pickets can be placed or cut as needed between the gate and stationary fence. I would take the 5/8 male hinge pin with me when you buy the strap, as some strap hinges are 0.41 (less then half inch, and no where close to 5/8) vs the 0.61 I purchased at Tractor Supply. As noted, I think I paid 12 to 13 each for a 12" strap hinge, you can get a 9 or 10" a little cheaper - about a buck or so per inch if I recall correctly.

Nice job. It's not the best hinge, but you're right, that's all you can get for metal to wood gate. You need to install self-tapping sheet metal screws into the bracket on the pole so it doesn't move over the years. It might be best if you through bolt the hinge bracket on the gate with carriage bolts. If the hinge stud falls out over the years you can install a 3/4" bolt with a locking nut.

I bought my strap hinges at Tractor Supply. Granted the hole size was 0.61 and a 5/8 hinge pin is a little larger at 0.625 or about 0.015 that you can grind off the hinge pin with an angle grinder (that's 1/62" off the diameter or half that around the whole pin). You can test for fit and I'd suggest a dust mask when sanding the galvanized pin. I found strap hinges in various sizes from 0.41 to the 0.610 from TSC (Tractor Supply). I believe they start at 9.99 for the 9" but I used the 12" on my gate.
Also in the pictures shown here I would flip the offset of the strap hinge so the full flat piece is against the wood and the offset is toward the inside, this allows the gate to open more than the position used in the video. Adjust the clamp on the pole to have the boards align flush and you can open the gate past 90 degrees. Nail or cut the pickets to align with the center of the pin. I standard gate latch for wooden fences will work fine, I just used a 1x6 5/8 picket to trim out where I mount the latch. While the latch provides a stop for closure and closed position fence alignment, I overlapped a stationary picket 3/4 to allow my door frame to have uniform contact the full height that closure. My thanks to the NumberDZ for sharing his design and concept, well done.

@@pwyllpendefig I had the same issue. I bought the standard 2 3/8 post clamps with the pin that were 5/8 (0.625) and bought the strap hinge at tractor supply. I put a 60 (or 80) grit flap wheel in my 4 1/2 inch grinder and removed 1/128 around the whole pin (the difference is 0.015" in diameter you have to remove). Some strap hinges are smaller, but I purchased the 0.061 diameter strap hinge at Tractor Supply. I could not find a fence company that had them. I test fitted the strap hinge before mounting while I ground down the pin in a vice. You can use a flat file to further smooth the roundness. I'd where a good 3M dust mask when grinding the galvanized pin as well as eye protection. I mounted the strap offset inward to allow the door to open past 90 degrees. Rotate the post pin clamp so the fence boards align flat on the front. HD sells an adjustable tension cable kit for around 14 bucks or you can build your own. Tension cables start at the top hinge side, while compression boards connect to the lower hinge side wrt the diagonal. I used a 2 3/8 post where the latch would be and allows for a 5/8 thickness (6" x 5/5 cedar picket) to dress out the closure side. You can screw a 2x3 on the front and back of the 2 3/8 post using Tek screws (2 3/4 self tapping screws directly into the pipe).
I prefer the flat mounting post clamps (roughly only 1/8 to 3/16 thickness) vs the Simpson straps that stick produce more space between the post and the rails. In the event you do went to self tap screws from the rails to the posts you can do that - which is what I did to secure the mounting place for the gate latch (2 3/8 post, plus the 1 1/2 rail screwed to the fence side, and another 1 1/2 actual (2" x 3" nominal) on the opposite side to sandwich in the front and the back of the metal post where the latch is and face the inside latch area off with the 5/8" x 6 inch cedar picket. I used 3" deck screws to secure the latch to the 2x3 rails. This is why I used the flat mount post to rail clamps and not the simpson clamps with the larger offset. The Tek screws I mention are sold at HD and Lowes, they have the break off winds that cut through the wood rail (albeit I predrill those anyway) and the self tapping metal cutting tip to drill the hole into the metal post and cut the threads. The end result is I have wrapped the post where the latch is with a 2x3" wood rail on front and back, and the 5/8 x 6" picket on the latch side. Hope that makes sense, I don't have a picture to attach.
