*REAL OG’S KNOW THIS IS THE 3RD // HD FOUNDATION - ULTRA HD - NOW HD SKIN* Word on the IG street from just skimming through mufe’s comments is that if you don’t like this, you gotta find a primer to mix in with it, which still saddens me since the old ultra hd was fire on it’s own but my shade opinions and first impressions still stand! The most orange I’ve EVER looked, even if the concealer saved me enough to go out. I’ll stick with the reboot foundation *(PLEASE DON’T CHANGE THOSE SHADES)* that I wore in my last video when I review the KVD concealer.
I feel like brands should keep their shade names consistent across their face products. If they keep changing the names of shades, it gets confusing and inconvenient for customers. Personally, that’s the reason why I stopped using MUFE foundations. They’ve changed the shade names at least 3 times already and even though they provide what your new shade should be based off the old name, it never really matches. I got fed up and switched to another brand that is more consistent.
worrrrrrrd. even if they offer explanations....... THREE changes within the what, last 10 years is far too much. It drives away customers lol. If they simplified it, sure. but the problem is that it's really just more complicated
I was SO excited when I went into Sephora because same as you, old formula was the best! How is it that despite 40 shades, there are no real olives!? I sampled easily 10 shades and they were all pink or orange
That's always been my struggle with MUFE. Still now, makeup companies need further understanding of what olive skin is. Olive is on its own. Olive can be pale, medium and deep. Olive can also be warm, neutral or cool.
Almost bought it online because of the 30% off. Glad I checked here first. I don’t understand how a brand this big can have a major release like this and completely eliminate a shade range on their line. Why?!?!
Holy shit I wish I read this comment earlier, I thought I was going insane. My original shade was a medium olive and the one they recommend is the closest match was supperrrrr orange
The original was too greasy for me, I have oily skin this new one is amazing! I Iove how it holds up on my skin. The shade match is great for me too and it’s hard for me to find a great match. I’ll be using this foundation for my baby shower!
Same here! I just used it today for the first time and I’m just in awe - this is the most natural looking foundation I’ve ever tried. I didn’t use primer nor powder, just to see how it wears on its own. After 9 hours I was a bit shiny (and my skin is really oily), but not greasy. For me, this new version feels ultra light, looks very skin-like and it really holds up.
Same!!!! I tried the old formula years ago and remember it made me so oily and got on everything as a result. 10 years later, I’m back in Sephora looking for a new foundation and was recommended this and I almost didn’t try it because of my previous experience with it, but I loooove this new formula. I think we’re definitely in the minority haha
I'm the 4th to the darkest shade in the foundation. Which means there's only 3 shades after mine.. To put it in perspective Nars has 7 darker shades after mine. I'm normally in the dark range. In this foundation I'm considered deep. I ordered off the website which told me I was two shades lighter.. ordered it and it was too light. Went to Sephora and my shade was two shades down. Alot of the shades lean a little warm.
AGREED!!! so sad that the Ultra HD is gone. Luckily I ordered 5 bottles before it was gone. I could NOT get this new one to work for me UNTIL I mixed it with the VDL lumilayer primer. It thinned out the coverage and texture and added a radiance to it. It actually looked really good! The HD skin shade range gave me anxiety. I settle on 1R12 which is suppose to be the new R230 which it really isn't. The other shades were straight up YELLOW on me. There's so many gaps in the range. Honestly MUFE kinda went to shit when it was bought out by LVMH. Why do these huge companies continue to purchase popular brands and then run them into the ground?? It’s astonishing.
I was hesitant at first after your review. I picked up anyway and I love it. I paired it with coverfx grip primer and it does not move. I have shade 2y20 and is perfect. Girl at Sephora said she liked it with Milk grip primer . Hope it helps someone.
I was y235 and now 1n10 and I like this foundation. Its the same shade for me.I don t see any difference on my face.It applies nice on my face.I am pleased.I don t know about the other shades.
I’m your shade fraternal twin or shade sister, Y365 was a pinch yellow for me so I usually wore Y355….there is no way that the shade you’re wearing is anywhere near Y355! Online all the shades looked really orange to me, Sand is the only shade that looked like it could maybe work. Thanks for the review, you always come through with shade advice for us light medium/medium girls!
The shade range is completely different and much darker than the original. I was Y355 (medium), but after a couple of tries, I matched with 1Y16 (light) in the HD Skin line. It wore best with the Hourglass Vanish primer and Ilia Soft Focus powder. I actually found that the HD Skin's wear time was way better than the original and it had the right amount of dewiness. My makeup was intact at the end of the day, even after wearing a mask for a few hours, whereas with the original foundation, a lot rubbed off on the mask. It might just depend on your primer and setting powder, but definitely more difficult to work with.
I really don't know why they reformulated. Don't fix it if it's not broken. The new shade range sucks. None of it matches me and it's extremely orange. The finish is not the same either. This is more matte than radiant.
I’m a skin twinsie and used all Y365 with MUFE, and I picked up 2N22. The 2N22 looked lighter in the bottle, but it darkens once it dries. I found 2N22 (says Neutral but it’s more warm beige) to be the closest to the Y365 in the reboot (a tinge more golden yellow)
@@koukyyii I swatched so many all at once so I’m not sure, but from what I swatched in store, the 2n22 was the closest match? Hopefully that’s helpful for you 😕
Omg I literally added 3 shades to my cart last night and was concerned as they looked orange in the swatches. I was also curious when you'd review it 🥰🥰🥰 and thought to myself I could return whatever doesn't match. Thank you for this review!
As a shade twinsie, I used the shade match info too and as soon as I pumped it out I was like "This is straight orange?" I went back to swatch all the colors and found none of the yellows were yellow, the neutrals were yellow, and I didn't bother with the cool because I could never 😅. I went lighter than I would've thought because I saw how oxidized you were from your IG story and decided to play it safe. I chose 1N14 because I'm very winter shade right now and it's similar to Nars Punjab which is a good match for me right now. I swatched them next to each other and they were identical.
I finally found my perfect foundation with this launch. Been searching for years and I have tried hundreds of foundations. So I’m personally happy with it but also found it weird I had to get a shade in the light range as I def wouldn’t identify as a light gal. But I got a nice lady at Sephora to help me find my shade and I’m so happy with everything this foundation offers. I never tried the original makeup for ever foundation (or any of their foundations) so maybe that’s why I’m so “easy” to please haha
Ultra HD has been my one and only foundation that I wear. I love the formula, how it wears, the finish. Everything. I haven’t been able to wear my R260 (which after watching this video I’m surprised I wasn’t in the shade y or n) I must really get tanned in the summer so yeah I guess that’s just my summer shade. BUT ANYWAYS… I trust your opinion the most after watching review after review. We have similar skin types & it’s such a bummer, to see that IM LITERALLY GONNA NEED TO GO FIND A WHOLE NEW FOUNDATION! 😩😩😩 BC THIS AINT IT!
I loved the old formula and I actually like the new formula also... As a makeup artist Makeup forever HD is great on mature skin... Really glides over fine lines.
I also reviewed this foundation, but it really stayed well on my face even without setting spray. The blurring effect is only under the lenses when ur photographed since it’s HD. I have to say though the new shades are so tricky. When I first tried it on it was fair, but when it dried it dried darker😅 I still love it though
Thank you for your review. I have not seen one single positive review of this foundation. Why do brands change a product that works great. They are shooting themselves on the foot. I do not think makeup forever as a brand will be around much longer.
@@nancycompier yes, I feel the same, it was so difficult to find the perfect shade, I was Y365 too in the previous shades, it was so close but on yellow olive undertone that shade looked a little bit beige or orange, now with the new shade I find that we're never going to have a shade :(
I've watched every review, and I have been waiting for yours! I was really excited to grab this, but so many mixed reviews 😬 Thanks for the review 😊 I'll pass on this
Honestly, I’m disappointed and dissatisfied with this launch. There’s so many foundations options out there that are better or equivalent. Why do I have to go through the headache of figuring my new shades when it’s such a task. For the price it’s more effort than I’m willing to put in. I appreciate the review. I totally agree. I love the old formula and shades. Love you Sam and I look forward to the next vid. Your vids are always amazing.
I am so worried about this. MUFE's shade conversion guide is literally so off! And I have such a hard time finding the right color for me. I tried literally every liquid foundation in Sephora, and only the old MUFE and Bobbi Brown were yellow-olive enough for my light East Asian skin. Everything else looked pink in natural light. Even though I have oily skin, I liked how lightweight, long-wearing, and natural the old formula looked. Matte foundation formulas tend to cling onto my acne and dry skin flakies.
really dont know why they discontinued the old one when there is a difference in formulas, they could sell the old one as for dry skin and this for oily-combo and both costumer types would be happy💁🏻♀️
Your review totally validates my experience!! I used to love the HD and their mat velvet foundations, but I could not make a shade in this work!! Ugh!! I returned it.
My usual shade Y235 is 1N10 and it’s similar but it looks more flat on the skin. The Ultra HD definitely was undetectable on the skin and had great olive undertones. They really messed up the undertones. Makeup artists worked on this and these are the undertones they came up with? Idk it’s a nice foundation but it is matte. Ultra HD was an essential on my makeup collection. Now I just mix EL double wear with serum (Lancôme serum) and I have the perfect shade and the perfect skin like finish that hold up all day and under a mask. So I don’t necessarily wanna keep this HD skin foundation. It’s not bad but it’s very different from Ultra HD and also the shades they did mess up on unfortunately
it looks very nice on you. maybe if you were slightly more tanned but if u only used the foundation for one of those looks with mostly concealer and bronzer and it would work. hopefully that made sense
When I heard they change it again… I ran and bought another bottle of the old one 🙄 I knew it would be a struggle with the shades and I‘m a very pale warm shade, the range does not look too promising in this category. I also love brands that keep their shades consistent and yeah… I‘m sad, HD has been my ride or die foundation as well, but of course I‘m still going to try 🤷🏻♀️🙃
Sam, did you use the MUFE 108 brush? Thanks for the review. Very helpful. The good news: there were no pores visible in the photographs and the color looked correct under the flash and w/o flash.
MUFE - The only foundation that is an absolute perfect match for my skin. I’m from India with yellow undertone, had such a hard time finding the right shade in many other brands.
I was also Y365 and the new shade is 2Y36, have you tried that one? I'm unsure what to get. I don't understand why they discontinued the original foundation, I loved it. I'm so disappointed as y365 was the perfect shade for me.
Just switching (a year later - I go lightly). They said said 1R12 would be they same as R230 but it’s sooooo orange. I guess I’ll try the neutral in, like, a year when I need a new one.
I completely agree with all you said. I watched other reviews and till I watched your review I really thought I was the only one who wasn’t at all impressed with this foundation.
My sephora is not selling the new formulas. Only the old one so I'm also figuring out my old shade too. I got y205 which is weird because it looks cool tones. I think that was another thing they did was correct what the undertones really should be named.
Ultra HD was like my go to ride or die foundation. I dont wear foundation a lot but that was of the ones that was always tried and true. I also remember when they changed it to the 2nd gen naming and It truly was just going from one name to the other but the shades was close to being equilvalent. But this saddens me its a naming change and its runs so warmsince its one of the few that had beautiful neutrals for darker skin like myself.
I just do not understand the purpose of adding orange in any tones whether its pink, neutral or yellow. Yes we want to look tan every now and then but never burnt like a roast 🤣. Very good review as usual . Xx
The point is for concealing. In order to cover dark marks on people with melanin you need peach and orange to cover the brown. On pale skin green cover redness.
The Orange hue. My nightmare. I don't have a shade of foundation, let alone in MUFE as they don't carry olive. I used Double Wear in 4w2, it was my skin in a bottle, but this shade became a little lighter the last time I bought it. I don't know if they changed it when they expanded the shade range or what. Now back to mixing.
Hi I wanted to ask! Did you use a curling iron or straightener for your curls?! Also I highly appreciate your review, we are similar in skin shade and I take in consideration your input!
I also was quite confused with the shade range and went specifically to the Sephora store to see all the shades In person and still was not sure which shade was correct for me. I am normally neutral or cool undertone and they didn’t seem to have made that 😂
You are better than me. I would have not wore this out. No way. I would have washed my face and started over. I would have done the wear test on a day I wasn't going out. How sad. I have never really liked their foundations, but I haven't tried anything recently.
I’m not even a RUclipsr but I feel SO compelled to do an honest review video on this foundation! I ended up buying 2 shades because I had to mix them to get even remotely close to my shade. I tried one in each undertone (R, Y, N)…and y’all the neutral one (3N fifty-something) literally turned GRAY! Like an actual taupe color! No one on earth is that skin tone! The yellow one was very much orange but it was actually the most decent shade match…but I got one with a red undertone to mix it with and it came out perfect. I did like the finish but the shade range is TRASH…and weird! I’ve yet to wear it out/do a full face with it so I’ll see how that goes…
I have a similar skin complexion to you which is why I’m always waiting for your reviews I had to go down to 1y18- 1n14 everything else darkened up way too much
I wore this yesterday for the first time & had a similar experience. It's definitely decent coverage, but during the day I had major patches on my nose and mouth. I was wearing a mask at work, but I've had foundations last beyond that without looking so yuck. I'm going to keep testing it (different primers, without powder, without a mask) and see if I like it any better but kind of disappointed. I have the reboot foundation and love that one.
Aside from the shades it's the formula that we want to know if it's works cause for those who can actually find the right shade, maybe the formula is amazing?
I have super dry skin and anything that is matte finish in anyway always looks terrible on my skin so do you think this foundation would work for me? Or should I skip it?
Yea they lost me during the second launch. The undertones should never change. The only thing that should change is their shade range and even different formulas but the whole color?! 🥴..Anyways you still look beautiful per usual soooooo ♥️ thanks for the review!
I actually love this foundation as this really is undetectable. However, the shading range is really not for me. 1N06 got recommended for me at first try there's a bit of pinkish shade hence it looks pale on me, but the longer I use it, the more it becomes orange. I'm warm undertone btw. and this one really oxidizes. I also got the shade 1N14 just to get my exact tone but it gets really orange after a long wear which is a no no for me. I was planning to try 1Y08 but it looks too yellow as well, I'm scared it'll oxidize the longer I wear it. so my advice to those who plans to get this, get 1 shade lighter? since it will eventually set after you've done your whole make up. but overall the coverage of this foundation is good.
I’ll be so sad if they change the Reboot foundation. That’s my personal holy grail. 😩 I was so hyped for this foundation too because the Reboot is so beautiful on my skin but I got it and I think it sits a little weird on some of my textured areas as well and I did not go for my usual shade in this line either in reboot I’m R230 in this foundation I went for 1N06 (formally Y218 apparently). And I don’t think it’s too bad of a match for me, but with me being a neutral undertone I usually have a little more leeway… idk, I want to love this foundation but I’m not 100% yet, I’ll have to test some different primers and see if it likes any of the primers I have better…
I work as a model and actress in tokyo.. and it can get hella humid here during summer. The OG one is my fave!!!! stick and liquid version… so it’s sad to hear about this relaunch! I’m happy they’re finally vegan!!!! I’ll still give it a try in store and maybe go lighter cause damn girl ! That shade ain’t it :(

Its surprising that this new formula didn't work for u! Every other review I've seen it has worked and they love it! But just hoes to show ya that every one, skin tone, type, etc is different! And we don't sell have to like or love the same products or things! Don't cha love being different! 😁 if we were all the same it would be so boring! Keep on keeping on girl! 😘
I can't wear MUFE unfortunately due to the orange tones. I'm neutral but olive who tans very easily but pale in winter. Every shade I tried turns deep terracotta on me.
Why do brands always try to fix something that isn’t broken…that shade referral they had crap! Those undertones all over place. I like it just don’t understand why they couldn’t leave well enough alone.
That undertone was definitely all wrong lol I was waiting for your review on this but yeah I have no idea why the yellow undertone looks so orangey red on your skin but hopefully when you use the right shade you can update us on how you feel about it

We are the same shade and I also have been using Y365 for years. I watch your videos and always have an instant shade match!
Gosh, the brands need to get shades /undertones right. Why should we pay $$ to guess and mix n match?
i think it accentuates fine lines because they removed talc and added denatured alcohol..
I GOT THE THE NEW ONE WITH THE OLD SHADE FROM Y TO N I LOVE IT LOOKS GREAT.
it looks very nice on you. maybe if you were slightly more tanned but if u only used the foundation for one of those looks with mostly concealer and bronzer and it would work. hopefully that made sense
When I heard they change it again… I ran and bought another bottle of the old one 🙄
I knew it would be a struggle with the shades and I‘m a very pale warm shade, the range does not look too promising in this category.
I'm usually a yellow toned but I got a neutral shade in this and it worked great for me.
What do you recommend for the girlies whose this was their foundation?! Gonna need that.
I agree i looked so orange!! And i used to Love the og shades and formula
Just switching (a year later - I go lightly). They said said 1R12 would be they same as R230 but it’s sooooo orange. I guess I’ll try the neutral in, like, a year when I need a new one.
I've been waiting for this from you!!
What lashes are you wearing???? Love them
This is my first time on your channel and I really appreciate your in depth, honest review!!! I can’t wait to watch more of your videos! Thank you.
I tried getting my shade match through the Sephora app. No match on the neutral olive skintone. Why??? So sad.
Please do Kosas foundation review 🙏 😍
Ultra HD was like my go to ride or die foundation. I dont wear foundation a lot but that was of the ones that was always tried and true. I also remember when they changed it to the 2nd gen naming and It truly was just going from one name to the other but the shades was close to being equilvalent. But this saddens me its a naming change and its runs so warmsince its one of the few that had beautiful neutrals for darker skin like myself.
So would you just where the reboot as a comparison? Or what would you do?
I’m really sad, I was expecting sooo much from this foundation!!
It was my first foundation at Sephora too! For my graduation 👩🎓
The caps do vary. I think by family
I neeeeddddd to know what lashes you are wearing pleaseeee!!!!!
They used to carry a few olive undertones in the Ultra HD foundation. I don't know why they eliminated them in the HD Skin line.
Love how real your reviews always are! Thanks Sam!!
I have a similar skin complexion to you which is why I’m always waiting for your reviews I had to go down to 1y18- 1n14 everything else darkened up way too much
Please review the RCMA Liquid foundation 🙏❤️
I heard the colors run warmer than usual. I’m guessing because it’s like a “summertime foundation “
I have the reboot foundation and love that one.
it wore great under my mask, i use hudson beauty water jelly primer , or smash box primerizer && i use laura mercier powder or hourglass veil
That shade is crazy lol girl I feel for you!
I've been waiting for your review 😌
Aside from the shades it's the formula that we want to know if it's works cause for those who can actually find the right shade, maybe the formula is amazing?
I have super dry skin and anything that is matte finish in anyway always looks terrible on my skin so do you think this foundation would work for me? Or should I skip it?
Yea they lost me during the second launch. The undertones should never change. The only thing that should change is their shade range and even different formulas but the whole color?! 🥴..Anyways you still look beautiful per usual soooooo ♥️ thanks for the review!
Thx you for one best review on foundation 💜❤️
So are we discontinuing or just adding another line??
I got this and did not like it at all has a pretty finish but gets on my patchiness
Can you do a review of the Loreal Age Perfect 4-in-1Tinted Balm?
I swatched some of the yellow shades yesterday but I found it too orangey and the darkest one I swatched looked ashen. I was confused.
I’m so disappointed with this new color range. I need you to try the new kosas foundation for us yellow toned gals!!
Love the video keep up the great work
I would mix the 2 first shades and see how it goes.
I’ll stick to the reboot version of the foundation. The new ones look darker and redder. IDK.
Looks beautiful!
That shade ain’t it :(
i follow your youtube videos for picking a foundation and Im a little bit confused 🙈i look for a matte liquid foundation for oily oily oily skin, could you help with some ideas pretty please?🥺🥺
FRAGRANCE 😫
me: all psyched for a new foundation.. then remembering “wait..does it have fragrance? Because I break out.. and I ain’t risking it anymore..remember?! Remember?!”
Also me:
“lemme just look… 💅🏼🤔 cause why get my hopes up, right?”
clicks link before starting video cause “maybe.. maybe.. it doesn’t have fragrance.. 😳” scrolling scrolling..
“no you’re excited, so now it’s gonna have fragrance-damnit you jinxed it! Prepare to have your heart broken!”
Scanning, scanning.. “👁👄👁…fragrance.. 😐😑 what’d you expect huh.... but whyyyyyy?!?! Tell me whyyy.. 😭🥺”
Yeah I took the time to write this..Ionno why lmao enjoy my tragedy..
Please review the Lisa Eldridge foundation!!
We are twinsies in color but try shade 2y20 it matches well .
Thanks for the great review
Their color match has me super way deeper than the shades I use by them. Strange.
🌟So, i got matched in store and the makeup artist who helped me mentioned it does oxides. Thankfully i found a great match post oxidation 😂
The color looks good 🤷
I can't wear MUFE unfortunately due to the orange tones. I'm neutral but olive who tans very easily but pale in winter. Every shade I tried turns deep terracotta on me.
I'm in the same boat. Have you found a foundation you'd recommend?
Why do brands always try to fix something that isn’t broken…that shade referral they had crap! Those undertones all over place. I like it just don’t understand why they couldn’t leave well enough alone.
That undertone was definitely all wrong lol I was waiting for your review on this but yeah I have no idea why the yellow undertone looks so orangey red on your skin but hopefully when you use the right shade you can update us on how you feel about it
Unfortunately, the high alcohol content, plus inclusion of fragrance makes this a NO for me! Great review, as always!❤
Isupport studied English with this
I restarted English after 10 years
I am a beginner studying English with asmr.
