- How fast is a De-restricted Kawasaki Ninja ZX14R? We headed up to Maine for the Loring Timing Association land speed racing event to find out.
Current Mods on the 2013 ZX14R
Brocks performance full pentacarbon single exit exhaust.
P08 F1-85 Sprint Air Filter.
Power commander PCV w/ Quickshifter.
WorldWideBearings ceramic wheel bearings.
Schnitz racing Ecu reflash.
41 tooth rear sprocket
PSR steering stabilizer
The guy that tuned my ZX14R said to go 200mph I would have to change the gearing, mine is unrestricted
That's accurate. Stock gearing allows for 192MPH.
Good stuff - King of bikes right there.
All hail the Busa Killer.
Enjoy that bike I'm sure you'll get it next time.
kid zx12r is the shit 14 ugly junk
When you compare the speed measured on the dyno and the speed in real conditions, the difference is that the rear tyre slips at high speeds when the bike is fighting air resistance. So there is a difference even if the clutch doesn't slip.
This bike is a really huge machine! But it’s a legend just as the busa!
Love how the MPGs are so prominently displayed on a bike that took the Busa off its very long tenure on the pedestal
Just watched your video. EXCELLENT! I intend to go to Loring with my 2018 ZX14r and this was a huge help. I see you are tached out at redline well before the end. I was going to change my gearing anyway for this but watching your video confirmed how important it is. I am sure if you had dropped a tooth or 2 on the rear you would have got your 200. Was glad to hear you were stock height--- saw this in the comments. Other than ECU flash , ceramic bearings and exhaust sounds like mostly stock . Loved the video!!!
My stock zx14 completely satisfies me :-)
I thought the same with my stock ZX14R, but after I got the full Akrapovic exhaust I see how wrong I was. It's epic now.
@@warboyrb I still want to stay as quiet as possible when I open up the throttle … especially in 6th on the highway (is this exhaust a little or a lot louder?)
Then you are easily satisfied😜
@@pattyjay9999Priceless 😂
If you are not living on the edge....you are taking up too much space !
200 mph, mine had full titanium single sided exhaust, PC3, tune (obviously), more gear on the front, cams, race gas, non double bubble screen, aero fill behind my helmet. They’ll do it, but being well tucked matters. I also removed anything that wasn’t needed (rear pegs etc). And mine was a high mileage bike.
Ur buddy cracked me up! What a good time ya'll are having! 👍
The fuel consumption at that speed in incredible, almost 22l/100km!
watching the mpg actually go up the faster he gets in 6th is kinda cool
Some weight reduction, regear and lowering will probably work wonders. Thanks for sharing your video I enjoyed it.
Yeah, that's fast. I took my friends zx12 and was sufficiently impressed. I liked the riding position better than my 01 bus.
Beautiful speed control. Smooth as glass.
My buddy had a 2004 Zx-12R that was no joke as well, very fun and quite spooky bike that was pleasant to ride
Big boy bike I love it, only bike that feels comfortable to me 6’3 250
I just purchased an H2 SX SE and it is for taller riders as well. I’m hoping to get a chance and take that up to Maine as well.
I’m 6’4” 260 and I’ve been thinking of getting this bike. My current bike is a Harley that tops out at 108. My car does 160 so I feel I need a bike that’s faster than my car. 😂
@MattsMotoWoRX did you use the stock chain guard ?? Or did you need to replace it with an aluminum one ?? What steering damper did you use ?? Planning to take my '23 14R up there this year if all goes well. Thank You for sharing your experiences there !
Well... your the first who can't hit 200 on a 14 with a good flash tune. You should've sent your ecu to Moore Mafia. I hit 206mph on my 07. That's gps speed that I have saved.
Awesome man! I was hoping for that 200 that day. There’s always next time
GPS doesn't mean shit.
GPS is good enough
“You’re”
I reached 209mph on my Grom! ...
I can make up a story too 😅
I did 199.6 at Maxton and the key thing was getting my head down and looking sideways at the line on the track for that tiny extra bit of aero.. I was riding a 2006 ZX12 with a Muzzy 1427cc kit, flash and tune on pump gas. I weighed 200 lbs at the time..
I had a 2013 ZX-14R, had the ecu flash ! Quick shifter ! Full Yosh ! BMC filter and it was tuned !……
only had the speedo and I’m in Quebec Canada so the speedo only goes to 280 km/h, but buy calculating the space between the numbers if we continue the needle was pointing around 330 / 340 km/h now since we all know speedo ain’t precise and a bit faulty im pretty sure this wasn’t exactly the speed i was going, but it was damned fast !
u were probably around 320 kmh
What pressure where your running in your tires? Why didn't you lower the bike? A more aero helmet and shoulder pads would definitely help.. Stronger clutch springs, slightly longer windscreen, lose the bar end weights. E85 or mr12 would help a bit. Tuck looked nice!
definitely a clutch mod from brock but other than that I think you have everything you can do to it ... maybe get a lithium battery. that would drop about 6 pounds . might help
@Thomas B Less weight will mean almost nothing when trying to go for maximum speed; accelerating is where it makes a difference.
Reducing the wind resistance is where to make big improvements, when going for top speed...
6pounds or have one less gallon of gas in the tank
@@supergrissi😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cris is da shit ! Best flasher out there im thinking
A few people get to live life like really live life and you guys are doing it!
You can get a rear sprocket that drops 2 teeth
I’ve been here, I live in Maine. I ran 205 mph on my hayabusa.
Were you being towed by a ZX14-R?
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne No but I had nitrous. Lol
Thats awesome!! I just picked up a 22 ZX14R and look forward to riding once its warm in Utah.
Hit up Brocks If you want the fastest bike in town
The land speed community is the best!
Awesome people!
I think by swapping the rear sprocket for a 40 tooth could make a difference
Yes clutch I’ve noticed it on mine, especially in 2nd gear when you give it a handful. Try a run with it on traction control 1 might surprise you
It the UK a couple of guys ran the ZX14R in the 200mph top speed events and the fastest stock ZX14R pulled just over 206mph using a TiForce full titanium exhaust system. The other guy pulled 204mph also using TiForce but his was the Stainless Steel version.
thats awesome !! yep drop 2 teeth on the back sprocket you are there - so basically a street bike flashed and a pipe can do 200mph INSANE !!
I wish i could help you hit the 200 mark..you are a pretty big rider..the only body position you could do is get your chest and stomach completely flat on the tank and have your butt way back on the seat and get your helmet actually above the triple clamps almost into the dash to get under the windshield also have your legs tucked in gripping the tank and frame if you have knee pucks take them off- you may need a custom seat .. i would try it again with different sprockets first.. check weather air density direction speed etc.. I live by a riders shop that does world speed records on a honda I can not say his name he owns a honda dealership he did different windshields fairings bodywork and even tires- a taller back tire may actually help you and only one gallon of fuel-- YOU CAN HIT 200 MPH !!
@uncle alzbbq
So gearing 17/40 will be 200mph with a flash and tune?
@@alexlexusZXpredator YES-- from what i seen.. you were able to pull redline in 6th gear -- drop 2 teeth on the back sprocket.. If your bike has not been tuned with the after market exhaust that needs to be done.. there are dyno videos on YT that show before and after ECU flash ,,, do you have a power commander??
@@alexlexusZXpredator there are many small changes that can gain a few more miles up top.. air pressure suspension settings to keep the bike from bouncing up and down-- clean air filter- clean tank and fuel lines-vp race fuel 100 octane new plugs gapped properly valve adjustment fresh oil.. yeah everyone should know that but honestly when the injectors are in sync and you just got a valve adjustment and a new air filter you KNOW your bike runs better and has more HP ! all of you know that
@@unclealzbbq2185
So far here is my list:
1)Ghul flashed ecu with blocks tune
2)full alien head 2
3)healtech qs
4)block off plates
5)sprint race filter from brocks $250
6)brocks lowering straps front end
7) brocks window lowering links
8) 17/42 gear but going to 17/40
Lmk if you think k with will do it.
Removed passenger parts on the bike to help with weight.
The World Fastest Indian did go 205mph back in the old days. The movie was awesome Antony Hopkins playing Burt Monroe
My 2001 ZX12R with just a few very slight modifications did 202mph checked with GPS (325km/h) and that was not on a straight track, mind you 😬 Only did it once. Mental! But quite often reaching 160 or so, but after that tunnel vision sets in and it's way to dangerous if not on a closed circuit. ZX14R (or ZZR1400 as they are called in Europe) will most likely be my next Kawasaki after a few years on other bikes.
Yeah, and I'm mother Theresa 😂😂😂
@@precisionbay6899 So...? Congrats, but she's gone.
@@tjteknik1 you did 202 on a zx12r 😆 yeah and apples grow on orange trees 😆🤣😂😹
@@precisionbay6899 and you are ignorant and un-educated (have you owned and properly used one of these? balls enough to go flat out? No, didn't think so). A 2001 non-restricted, blueprinted, tuned, de-cat etc, does just that. Stock about 8-10mph less.
That's odd, i had 3 zx12 and they'd barely do 190
Had about 8 or 9 hayabusa that did between 186 and 207. The 207 one had a turbo and methol injection
Great job! Thank you for making this video.
Had mine tuned and derestricted today 👌😊
Awesome 😎! Thanks for checking out the video 🤘
Awesome runs!! So close!!
I've never been to one of these events: how easy/hard is it to spot the flags or whatever they have at the end of the course when you're in it like that?
I know this is two years old, but for anyone tuning for top speed runs. You want your target speed to be at peak power on the dyno curve. So if your peak power is at 10k but your 200mph is at 11500 you want to make your gearing taller so that your 200 happens at 10K rpm. It's pretty obvious when you type it out, but easy to overlook.
For all I know this bike has a pretty flat peak and does in fact peak near redline, but that is pretty uncommon. It sounds to me like his peak power is around 10,500 but he's still doing 198 at 11,500. If that is accurate, that is a prime example of final drive ratio missmatch.
Leia: "Would it help if I got out and pushed?"
Solo: "It might! "
@ 150mph it's still giving you 23mpg. May be I should go faster when I ride lol
I got mine to 208 mph. Amazing video man
na ah...
I got mine to 195, and she was still accelerating.
@Thomas B Yessir
@@khaosking2937 GPS doesn't mean shit. Go to a true measured event like this one and get back to us. If you haven't done any true power mods you definitely didn't get to 208.
I got 72mph out of mine once. @@pattyjay9999
Done 180 on my 2009 fireblade. Was happy enough
Judging by you two, a decent barber could really make your town more aesthetic.
More aerodynamic too!
Please...take that stupidity back home with you!!
Was that a lil double clutch boost at like 190 mph 13:06? Sweet run, must’ve felt like warp speed.
Congrats on your runs! 🤘 Great group of folks in the LSR community.. 🇺🇸♥️🏍👍
I keep yelling at my monitor - CLUTCH SLIPPING!
Why is it stopping at 125? Mine gets to 186 lickity split, and that was before an ECU flash and full exhaust system. And why the short shifting???
I'm curious what protective riding gear were you using? What would you recommend for the best protection? Thanks!
Don't know how fast that bike is but I do know that a concourse 14 will freakin fly!
your video guy is your biggest fan. love friends like this hes funny at 20:25 :)
150 is the take-off speed of a small private jet and 190 on a B737
I'd be really curious to see what my stock zx-14r would do. Maybe drop one or two teeth off the back sprocket
"Maybe drop one or two teeth off the back sprocket" Wouldn't be stock anymore..
Do you still have this thing? I just bought a 2019 model and love the heck out of it! My goal is to run 8.99 or better with it.
Remember that rocket crash scene from the intro of The Bionic Man
My son's friend has the concours1400. Will it do the same? Real question
Getting the 2022 Zx14R in 8 weeks despite wanting the H2. Maybe next year I’ll pick up the 2023 Ninja H2 lol
Enjoy it man. One day I’ll have an H2 SX but the 14 is more than plenty of bike for me
@@MattsMotoWoRX had the 2015 zx14 until a crash. Only getting the 14 now because my wife wants to ride with me. I can always get the H2 next year when she gets her license for one and give her the 14. But I appreciate it!
Zx14r is a different bread of beast. You're gonna love it I promise. You might not even desire a H2 after owning a 1400. The torque pull is incredible. The comfort is incredible. It's great on fuel. All areas the h2 falls short. Not to mention where I'm from insurance difference it's several thousand a year cheaper to have the 14. The 1400 insures as a sport touring bike in alot of places.
@@larryhouse3776 Agreed. And, btw, I've seen 2 H2's throw rods thru the wall. It's not a matter of "if" it's a matter of "when".
What gearing you running i have 18 on front 39 on rear just replaced new x ring chain with non o ring lighter chain
I got a 2024 and absolutely love it
Am i right in assu7ming my zx14 an (06) will read the same mph even if I gear up a tooth or two on the front? ILL have to use my gps right?
From a mile to a mile and a half gained 4 mph. Not bad considering you were traveling over a football field per second so the last half mile was around 8 seconds so picking up 1 mph every 2 seconds. De -restricted ? What does that mean, ECU flash ? Send it to Moore Mafia his flash will get you there. Good runs. Good luck !!
What type of gas do you guys use on these tests
Pump gas 93 octane
@@MattsMotoWoRX thanks for the reply. I thought it was like race fuel or something to give it gains
I think the engine is running up against its maximum rpm I would advise just change the front socket and give it one tooth more and change the octane level of the fuel and you will hit that 200
Did it get faster per run because the fuel load was less towards the end? Less weight…
Amazing job!
What exhaust system are you having on?
Not hitting 200 mph would bother me forever
Especially when you're that 😮😅 close to 200mph! 😢..lol I was building a rotary engine motorcycle 🏍 with a 200mph goal when I got hurt back in 2003!..smh..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠
Do you have any oil pump mods? Not that it would help your speed, just thinking of protecting the engine at the prolonged high rpm’s.
It's Kwaka - it's made to run like this. This is nothing.
@@warboyrbThat’s good to know. I also ride a zx14. I have heard horror stories about rod bearing failure due to the oil pump flexing at high rpm . I’m glad to hear yours is going strong in stock form. It makes me feel at ease with mine.
I went 205.3 at the Texas mile on a 70 shot.
I went 376mph on a Honda C90
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOnehit 3.99.9 on my Honda melody just last week, gonna take the picnic box off the back to hit 400mph
Back in 1999 Motorcyclist Magazine Gave all the manufacturers the challenge to step up with their hottest bike for title King Of Speed.Suzuki stepped up.First production motorcycle over 200mph. Actually Smithson Institute had the 1999 Suzuki Hayabusa as the first production motorcycle over 200mph.To bad 25 years later Hayabusa is still the King Of Speed.
Sheer curiosity, rider weight at time of video?
Amazing run! The most informative thing I got out of the vid was you are getting as much MPG as I average from my Ram truck at 160+ MPH. So taller gearing? A sprocket would put it over 200.
A sprocket probably would NOT put it over 200 mph. People don't understand that it takes about as much horsepower to get from 199 to 200 mph as it takes to get from 150 to 199 mph.
@@johnjones5977So You're Saying Aerodynamic Drag Is What's Stopping It?
@IDontNeedSecurityInTheClub that's the biggest factor.
those short shifts were messing you up BIG time
What's the name of this track and where is it?
He's still trying to remember...
Would love to have something like this up here in Calgary. To take my 2009 ZX14 up to her max. Without any worries about the police putting my butt into jail!!
i have everything you have listed except the wheel bearings and quick shifter. I would have thought you could have broke 200 maybe go 2 down in the back i would think would do it. Is it pump gas and I assume a brock map? Be interesting to know this. I really would like to do this one day.
I dropped two the back, and while i hit the limit quicker i was also too far in the red for the bike to hit 200 i think.
Although i also dropped 2 in the front, so maybe the back alone would work
McDonalds robbed you of that last 2mph.
@@petebusch9069 a healthy dump away from triumph 😂
It sounds painfully slow compared to my tuned zizi 11. End was 11.5k at red rpm in 6th gear with 44 rear sprocket, instead 45 original.
How much difference would it make if you left the stock mirrors on?
I’m not sure 🤔. The rules for the track don’t permit mirrors so that would have to be something you’d have to test elsewhere.
About 6 mph probably.
Sorry it is on RUclips Bonneville Speedweek kid from California hit 218 with a stick Hayabusa an that was without the vent holes covered. They let him put tape over the vent holes for his second pass at 222 mph. History look it up.

My 2000 hayabusa totally stock,only a k&n air filter,had hit 204 on a GPS
Killer! Your ripping it up!
My 1998 Honda 900rrCBR would brake 200 MPH ,140 Hp and under 400lbs, came new with Kerker full pipes and chain up grade.
How were you measuring your speed?
Just RPM,s left after pegging speedo and riding a legit certified 200 MPH+ Honda 954rr and comparing ,maybe 190,s but felt just as fast as pegged tuned 954rr

😂😂
At minute 19:02 you can see this motorcycle makes 2.7 MPG starting acceleration, at top acceleration makes only 11.6 MPH and it is only a 1,441 cc engine. Incredible how these motorcycles spend so much gasoline!
Haven't seen anyone here suggestions on the most effective mod to gain speed, ceramic wheel bearings. They are proven to give u a couple more MPH.
They were installed for this high speed run
Lose weight. More effective for a fatty like me.
I read ZX-4R and was tripping balls XDDDDDDDDDDDD
Man! I would love to break 200 on my 14R! Mine is bone stock, and I need to lose some weight, myself, so based on what I've seen here, I doubt I could do it under my current situation.
not many bikes have the ability to go that fast in stock form. the fun is in modifying the bike to make it happen
Well back in the 70s or 80s the bike manufacturers came to a gentleman's agreement. They decided that 187mph was the fastest any bike could go when it leaves the factory. I think the Asian manufacturers had a similar agreement on cars.
So in the early 90s when people really started wanting performance there were vehicles that you could get easily get 50ish or more hp by changing a few little easy things out.
Very nice.👌
I have owned several ninjas and yamaha r1s but nothing scares me like my zx14
What's with the shifting???
It was horrible! No excuses for that
@@MattsMotoWoRX So close ! Maybe that stiffer clutch will help. And shifting just inside redline. who knows. Also, looked like a pretty warm day. Looking forward to the next attempt.
Close, but no cigar. Frustrating FUN. Living on the edge! I might have to come out of retirement and teach you youngins what FAST IS. I was doing 188 MPH in 1975 , on a Honda Goldwing prototype, the one on inside back cover of CYCLE MAGAZINE DEC73. You have to shrink wrap yourself at speed. On your bike 195-205 is all in your head. Personally I think your take off is lame and keeping you from your goal. With my Goldwing I revved it to 10,500 and dumped the clutch. Yeah, you go sideways for a bit but once you straighten out, you're flying! Try a neoprene suit over the leathers to smooth your body, or put some deflectors on your leathers to re arrange- airflow. Maybe smooth wheel covers would help. How about a one piece over suit that goes over your helmet that scrunches you into a tiny ball? Good luck next time! Don't make this old man have to show you how it's done. You'll never live that down!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bike is nice and stable at speed.
I love getting mine up to 180 and then slamming on the brakes and seeing how close I can come to braking tracking on the front tire.
Do you like playing Russian Roulette too?
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne Not usually, but yeah, I do sometimes. Even got pulled over once doing 142mph. Cop let me go without even a warning.
I wish you good luck. One day you'll need it...@@ryanmalone2681
I did a best of 189 in my derestricted 2012 with cheap slips and a 41 out back....in a 1/2 mile standing start land speed event in 2018. ....and backed it with 3 or 4 more hits over 180. Aero stuff really does matter......you may have issues with wheelspin at high speed. Unlikely the clutch is slipping. Keep at 'er.
excellent ride my friend half mile goes by really fast--
I'm doubting 189 in the half. Big time doubt.
@@johnjones5977 Instrumented, 4 runs over 180, same day, same conditions. I was a bit more aerodynamic myself back then; buck 50 in a suit and under the paint. Doubt away, if you want.
One les tooth on the back sprocket would do it, your on the rev limiter.
The faster u go the more economical it gets 🎉🎉🎉
So 11.2mpg means 25 liters per 100kms and since the capacity is 22 liters....not very economical on full throttle 😂
Awesomeness
Was the bike at stock ride height?
Yes stock height
How long does it take it to get to 60 mph ?
That is all determined by the rider
@@MattsMotoWoRX oh ok , thanks
Try the Superman Stance next time!
How scary is it going that fast? Obviously not being on a street and being in the open kinda removes the blunt force injury risks, and just leaves you with a slide which you seem dressed for. I took my 2014 zx14r up to 180 on a wide open country road. It doesnt have a corrected speedo so it was probably a true 165 or something but it definitely gets your thoughts going. TBH my biggest fear is mechanical failures of some sort.
It’s not that scary actually. Everything happens so fast by the time you would worry you’re already done with the run. Just check the bike over really well before you run and accept the risk 🤷🏻♂️. Being by yourself on a track makes it a lot easier to relax for sure
Tire puncture would be my greatest concern, or a death wobble. In both cases, I'd rather have the long wheelbase of the zx14.
