The noise is probably the radar antenna hitting the stops. They are normally stabilized via the co-pilot's gyros. Which in your case is not functional. Thus the antenna is just banging around. Just an observation. Edit: I just remembered that most airborne radar stabilization can be switched from Gyro Stabilization to Airframe Stabilization. In "airframe Stab" the antenna stabilization is locked to the airframe. As long as you are flying straight and level, you will get a decent radar picture. When you roll though, so does the antenna. This will result in much ground clutter on the low wing side of the display. The antenna tilt function will normally be available when in airframe stabilization.
Aloha Jimmy. Get some 303 Aerospace Protectant for the sticky overhead light switch. Spray a small amount around the switch plunger and work it into the switch. It will not only lubricate the moving parts of the switch, but it will also preserve the plastic components of that switch. Do that on all of the overhead switches, and they will turn on and off every time. I use 303 on everything on my cars and lots of other stuff around the house. Fan belts , trim, plastic, rubber and anything else made out of plastic or rubber, and it works wonders for making those items last. I have put 303 on the CV joint boots on my 2009 HHR SS at every oil change, and the original CV joint boots are still going strong after 240,000 miles. It is great stuff.... It is my dream to one day own a plane. I am one who has been through a lot in life and have a lot of hills to climb before that could ever be a real possibility. This is one of those planes I could see myself owning with a ton of character but plenty of room, lots of power, and a longer range. For now, flight sim will continue to be my outlet, but I hope that will change some day!

Great to see this bird up and flying. I've owned many 310s, 340s, 414s, 421s and currently a 1984 Conquest 1. You could say I'm a twin Cessna lover. The Ram upgrades makes this an entirely different aircraft. You're really going to enjoy it. FYI, the Ram winglet package adds nearly 38" to the span and if I recall correctly they are 36" tall. I believe the (RAM) published increase in climb is 240fpm and 65fpm OEI (which in my opinion is more crucial). Personally, I think they do significantly better than that. Between the winglets and Micro AeroDynamics VGs a 421 behaves like a different animal, a much better animal. Fuselage strakes will also add close to 10 knots. Fun fact on the subject.....Only non-trailing link equipped 421s (1976-79) are able to have winglets installed. This bird has many of the sought after (and ones that actually make a difference) modifications and or upgrades. Godspeed, you're going to love it.
Guy once hired me to ferry a "cheap" Cessna 421 from SRQ to XNA. 3 months, 4 trips to SRQ, 4 mechanics, and 3 in flight emergencies later... We made it to Arkansas.
@10:10 The Radar is synchronizing it's direction. The sound is stepper motors pushing the dish to it's limits, kind of like setting it to 0,0 position. (I'm a former radar technician).
It'll probably be cheaper to replace the right hand attitude indicator with a Garmin G5 rather than repairing the one that's in it. You can get the G5 for certified aircraft too.
The numbers thrown out here are so outrageous. The materials cost used in the exhaust for example are probably less then a couple hundred. The fleecing in aviation is absolutely criminal, and it has it's roots in the regulations. There needs to be a top down modernizing of requirements. The certification process is overly excessive and expensive. It's impossible for normal middle class people to afford. It wasn't like this in the 70's and early 80's.
It's the same problem you see in medical equipment. You are paying for the inevitable future lawsuits when people leave the land of the concious when attached to or in the given piece of equipment. It's the only way for these companies to remain in business and ensure profitability.
to me, i worry more for our A&Ps… this absurdity is ensuring owners dont want to pay any more for mechanical work because the items themselves cost way too much. If it was low, A&Ps can get a fair pay and id be glad to pay it to them.
We used to have a hole cut out of a vw bus , because my dad was tired of stopping at the rest areas. Seeing that funnel flowing from the bottom of the plane brought back childhood memories.
I live in TN you should fly into Tullahoma, TN because there is a airplane museum called Beechcraft Heritage Museum dedicated to the Beechcraft planes and George Dickel and Jack Daniels distilleries are near by
Honestly, as wild as the costs thrown out here are, I’ve seen plenty of single engine Pipers and Beechcrafts selling for much more than Jimmy got this 421. Sure they’ll have newer and fancier avionics but they won’t have nearly the capability of this large twin. Of course Jimmy is going to pay the difference in operating costs over time, the 421 will probably cost several hundred an hour more to fly than the aforementioned singles. Still, you gotta respect the deal.
Hi Jimmy!! Congratulations on getting your plane fixed!! The best use for that plane with that range is to transport low income cancer patients to their treatment, especially kids and their parents!! I’m sure many of your followers will contribute to that!!! ❤
I was a young A&P mechanic trainee at a Cessna dealership/FBO when I saw our first 421 that we purchased for charters. It was a brand new 1976 421C model. I remember that the engines weren't as bullet-proof as the 310's. After one of the overhauls (1200 hours), I was entrusted to start it for it's first run. I'd been flying 172s and such and it seemed so cool to go through the starting sequence and hear that big GTSIO-520L2B roar to life!
Great machine Jimmy. A word of caution though - if you plan on flying in IMC regularly (ie in all seasons), do get the right side AH fixed (you’ll regret not doing it when the primary fails on a dark and stormy night…😁). Speaking of stormy weather, do also get either the WXR or the stormscope fixed (many GA aviators are no longer with us when they bumbled into a CB). What cost do you put on your life and those of your loved ones? Just sayin’. Oh - one last thing as a matter of great urgency! Get that dodgy FO’s AH fully covered so it doesn’t distract you when in IMC. Costs you nothing except a piece of paper and some tape😁
Hi Jimmy - many years ago an old friend fitted his car with a rubbber tube and a funnel😢, when he got tired of having to stop every few miles when his kids needed to go!
I have always wanted to load up the family and do a National Parks tour for a couple of months. Would be a really good long test!! And probably some really good sponsorships on camping and accomodations from the parks service...
The toilet brings back some memories. A company that I was DOO for owned John Denver’s citation, “ The Whiskey” and we would use it to fly to NYC or Vegas and we would pack it to the max but we would always start the trip with some drinks and my small bladder couldn’t last past 15 minutes in the air. Using the restroom in front of a plane full isn’t quite the most comfortable situation. Obviously sitting down ( trying to be clean here ) wasn’t an option unless it was absolutely an emergency but flying from Denver to NYC those emergencies happened and it wasn’t fun. They are definitely nice to have but you better get over any embarrassment you think you might experience. Not the best story but one nonetheless.
Rule: He who uses the evacuation tube has to clean the outside of the aircraft where that which is evacuated covers. The moral is to use the bucket with the fresh step kitty litter like the distaff personnel use. Or even more plainly, man up and "Squat to Pee" and keep the exterior of the bird much cleaner.
A friend dad was a army air corps mechanic working on US marked British Spitfires, flown by US pilots. He recalled the way they checked for coolant leaks was to crawl under the fus., lick the belly skin. If it tasted sweet, you had a glycol leak. If salty....well...
As a mechanic, I totally agree. Especially when the owner complains about me having to clean the corrosion off the belly and repaint it. This repair happened every year at annual on one particular airplane for his trips from Florida to Ohio. I mentioned to him why don’t you just let me paint it in black exhaust paint back there for extra protection🤣
The trick to using the relief tube(yes that is what it is called) is to open the valve before you start to pee and hold it open until you are done plus a few seconds so nothing freezes in the line.
@GreatNorth104 Around 6 months ago, I saw a beautiful 425 for sale, and the asking price was 450k with good times, I believe both sides were around 1200 hours smoh. The interior and paint were 9/10. I was considering buying it and flipping it. Many people are afraid to make the jump from piston to turbine, but once you do, you wonder why you didn't do it sooner. I can't believe how many 421c models are listed for 750k+ when you can buy a 501sp 400k.
Congrats Jimmy! I really like your 421 you must be GITTY inside ! I'm thinking you might want a set of floatation devices for the family, or are they standard on your plane or FAA requirement for flying over water? Add on's a large beach umbrella, and beach chairs. ENJOY Jimmy ! Consider sealable plastic bag inserts for the privy? Trip to Washington State, take the Inland Passage Way to Alaska by cruse ship I've never heard a complaint. Bring a tux for the Captains table?
I feel for your pain! As an Aircraft Mechanic I could tell you horror stories of repairs(one in particular was when I was inspecting an aircraft and reached up to inspect lead edge spar, it came apart in pieces in my hand.) I shake my head every time I see these video's of aircraft that have been abandoned and then they try to make it fly again on a weekend!
What a GREAT airplane! Wishing you and your family a ton of great adventures, and I hope you'll bring us along for the ride. I'm glad you have a "Long Range Flight Extender". LOL I use to have a Cessna 205 with 8 gal. tanks. Yep, I could fly for more miles than my bladder could go. As you know, you have to flight plan sever pee stops. Shoot. Good luck, awaiting more adventures. PS: I'm very proud of you and your charity group for all that you and your team does to help those in need.
Yeah, really short flights. 😝 My fingers outran my brain again. This has been getting more common with each passing year. As you can guess, it should have been 80 gallons and about 11 GPH burn. My poor badder got stretch to the limit on more than one occasion. Thanks for pointing this out.
What a fantastic plane, Jimmy. I fly a 414 in VR quite often in Flight Sim (Student Pilot since '09, current med lol), so seeing yours in all its glory, all "finished" and flying was a real treat to see. Thanks for showing it. I recently got the opportunity to get in a real 414 where the owner did an entire glass cockpit. I'll be honest... as cool as it was, the ol' steam gauges are just a bit cooler. In my humblest of opinions, I'd glass up both sides of the horizon and heading indicators and leave the rest alone - working, of course. Also, when you showed there was a pee tube, I about lost it. I used to work on the EA-6B Prowler (USMC Powerline) and the last time I saw one of those was in a Prowler. SO cool and hilarious at the same time. I hope to make it out to Osh Kosh next year, so maybe I'll get to see it up close. Enjoy, and FLY SAFE!
Congratulations, the 421 is looking great. I would say Mount Rushmore to fly near Devils Tower then over Yellowstone with a landing in Cody. Lots of history there.
Jimmy, just what you need as a "Family Flying Sedan!" You know, for you 'n the family, right? Maybe you could fly up to YVR, Vancouver, BC and see the Amazon owned 737 sitting on the end of 26R. hehe.
Jimmy, Beautiful plane. One caution be careful with the edges of those wing lockers the edges can be razor sharp from years of vibration. Voice of experience here
I want to fly so bad. I am in Massachusetts and no one will hire me for anything. I got my drone pilots license and i am hooked. Trying to move to texas. I love this channel
Come to the Chattanooga area. It's a great place to visit and Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is just over an hour away in a 421. I would love to buy you lunch and show you how cool the Chattanooga area is.
In addition to all my important must-have tools in my work van, I keep one of those same Gatorade bottles on standby JIC...lol. Sometimes there just isnt a convenient place for a pee break and those Gatorade bottles are life savers. Great sealing lids BTW.
Plains aren’t really my thing but you make it a great time to watch. The Elvis series was a fun one to watch too. Glad to see how all you guys came together helping the storm victims. Even got ol Cleet in the mix.
Mackinac Island was my favorite fly in spot. After hours when the last tourist boat leaves it’s very nice. That’s upper Michigan. 1000 Islands NY. Take the boat tour and check out the castles. Maybe Quebec City Canada and spend a couple days touring around. Just some thoughts on destinations. If you’re not afraid of the DEA or cartels, Costa Maya and go see the Mayan ruins. Seattle Space Needle would be interesting. The stop at Yellowstone on the way back. Just some ideas for you.
Winter is just around the corner. Be sure and treat your boots and exercise them to be sure they are working correctly. Exercise them on the ground and also up at altitude. You should do that every couple of months to exercise the flow control valve. Great airplane! Fly safe.
@@PJHEATERMAN I had a Southwind heater in my Apache. The section on it in the Apache Maintenance Manual was 80 pages long! I remember putting it in the bathtub and pressurizing it to check for leaks!
@@HabuBeemer Great tip. Take care of those boots. The prop boots too. They sure aren't cheap. Nor the valves. I like the 421C but prefer the post 800 serials with trailing link gear. Makes them softer on landing. But there aren't many engines that still bring up the chill bumps like a GTSIO at power. Worked on a lot of twin Cessna's in my career.
@@PJHEATERMAN There's almost nothing on those heaters that can't be fixed for much more than $500 (maybe the tube) whether it is a C&D or Janitrol. I have a long history with those brands. Even an exchange unit rarely goes over $4000 Hartzell owns both brands.
Thx Jimmy! There are so many amazing places to visit in America. Mackinac Island in northern Michigan is unique along with Put in Bay Island in the summer.
Hey Jimmy. This suggestion is somewhere I have already been but I think it would be a great adventure for your family. Head west to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and hit Grand Teton and Yellowstone National parks. If you haven't already been. My personal opinion, there is no place more beautiful on earth.
Hi Jimmy Man, I love all your aeroplanes (being the 310, the star of the flock), but the 421 is defenetly the "icing on the cake." Happy landings & good winds from Portugal 🇵🇹 (& not Portuga)😡
Never a dull moment, Jimmy. 😁 Thanks for the video and for the added laughter. I love the 421, It's definitely one of my favorite twin engine planes. As far as adventures... anywhere the wind will take you. 😊
A “Relief Tube” suggestion. Before using it, press the button and make sure you hear the suction sound. If you’ve been in icing condition, the external vent can freeze, preventing its ability to drain. If you “use” it before testing it, you can end up with a cup full of pee. Ask me how I know..😅
@@therealjimmysworld So when you building a 6 years after a zombie apocalypse plane.... Possible parts list.... 2 Huey`s 1 without a tail/engine/upper section/cockpit destroyed the other without a tail/engine/upper section Lear jet rear section(wings rearwards) no engines.. 2 sets of wings only 3 engines = 2 prop 1 non Lear jet. And the fun part.. You have 100s of scaffold poles/fittings, 5 tonne rated ratchet straps to graft it all together.... wire rope(for controlling flaps etc) leather from seats to seal up any holes stopping cold/rain intrusion maybe a second skin covering the scaffold frame work to increase fuel efficacy.. Blue plastic drums for extra fuel.
Imo the 421 was an attempt to get KingAir performance at a fraction of the cost. Even though all the commenters are railing about the prices, they are much less than a turboprop.
Ilopango is an airport in El Salvador that hosts a yearly airshow that skip Stewart frequence often would be awesome to see you guys together at that place
This 421 has glass cockpit written all over it. G500 or 600 with GTN750 and GFC500 autopilot. Done and dusted. Okay, maybe not on a budget but one can dream. Avidyne makes some really cool affordable glass solutions as well.
@@stansdds well the whole engine blowing up, propane tanks are no joke, suggestion: buy a disposable propane tank when you get there, they go for about $10 at the hardware store, Walmart and Target has them too.

They did some very nice work. Now for the glass cockpit. For sure do that video Jimmy.
this plane is the best model of cessna I love it
The 441 is a far superior aircraft.
@GreatNorth104 The Cessna 435 is far superior. That is a better comparison.
Good one, love these hands-on videos!
With 8 gallon tanks, you must of had some long 30 minute flights!
Yeah, really short flights. 😝 My fingers outran my brain again. This has been getting more common with each passing year. As you can guess, it should have been 80 gallons and about 11 GPH burn. My poor badder got stretch to the limit on more than one occasion. Thanks for pointing this out.
@johnbridges6760 Hi , I just thought I'd take the opportunity to mess with you! I figured it was 80 gallons. Happy flying!
A trip to Hawaii would be nice. See what you can manage to get into there.
Pen holder is good if you get the "copy down a phone number" from ATC.
😆
LOL!
Would be unreal for an ultra long range trip to the Kimberley region in Australia!
I think it would be awesome to take it on a trip to either Jamaica or Columbia. That would be a pretty fun adventure.
Agree!…. just glass up those two instruments and leave all the other ones working…. that panel is too beautiful as it is!
Flight over the Grand Canyon. Audio was great even before you got your headset on...nice!
Congratulations, the 421 is looking great. I would say Mount Rushmore to fly near Devils Tower then over Yellowstone with a landing in Cody. Lots of history there.
Jimmy you’re a funny dude. Thanks for keeping this channel going. Partially inspired me to get my A&P.
Howdy! I’m based in Cleveland TN. I agree he needs to come to Chatty
If I remember correctly. Professional golfer Ian Woosnam, had one of these back in the day. He used to take it the major golf tours
I am an airplane mechanic and literally work on twin Cessnas, 421, 414, and 425. Very expensive to maintain I can tell you that!!
Congratulations Jimmy; she's a beauty!! I think you should fly down the Isla Mujeres in the Yucatan.
Beautiful place!
I'm sure an instrument panel upgrade will happen in the near future. I'd bet Jimmy could hire Resque rebuild to get that done.
@@edspencer7121 I can’t wait to see a new glass panel.
In addition to all my important must-have tools in my work van, I keep one of those same Gatorade bottles on standby JIC...lol. Sometimes there just isnt a convenient place for a pee break and those Gatorade bottles are life savers. Great sealing lids BTW.
You’re literally living my dream, Jimmy. I hope, some day I will make it as well.
Plains aren’t really my thing but you make it a great time to watch. The Elvis series was a fun one to watch too. Glad to see how all you guys came together helping the storm victims. Even got ol Cleet in the mix.
@jeffallen5387
Maybe forests instead of plains? 🙈😂
@ wow! You got me there. Maybe planes would be more appropriate! Lol! Good catch.
Great! 421 is my favourite! 👍
A bag of lightbulbs? That's a front pocket find right there.
It was nice seeing you actually do some flying!
Make the trip to Columbia
That could pay off the entire airplane lol
I think the 414's I flew back in the day also had a relief tube up front under the pilot's seat. Never once had to use it, though.
Winter is just around the corner. Be sure and treat your boots and exercise them to be sure they are working correctly. Exercise them on the ground and also up at altitude. You should do that every couple of months to exercise the flow control valve. Great airplane! Fly safe.
Not to mention the cabin heater. Not sure why he paid 12 grand but as a cabin heater expert he got ripped off.
@@PJHEATERMAN I had a Southwind heater in my Apache. The section on it in the Apache Maintenance Manual was 80 pages long! I remember putting it in the bathtub and pressurizing it to check for leaks!
@@HabuBeemer
Great tip.
@@airmecher Yup the same trailing gear that was used on the Cessna Conquest series.
Thx Jimmy! There are so many amazing places to visit in America. Mackinac Island in northern Michigan is unique along with Put in Bay Island in the summer.
Very nicely Done!very entertaining 😊
Good morning from Minnesota! Mackinac Island with the family would be awesome adventure
Adventure suggestion: Skiing trip into Aspen Colorado! That is a freaky approach in there with mountains all around.
No propane grill on the engines storage, not ideal, it's not pressurized, someone needs to tell him.
Hey Jimmy. This suggestion is somewhere I have already been but I think it would be a great adventure for your family. Head west to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and hit Grand Teton and Yellowstone National parks. If you haven't already been. My personal opinion, there is no place more beautiful on earth.
Bahamas and South America trip to Costa Rica !!!
Super Nice Plane Jimmy !!
Congrats !!
Ask me how I know..😅
How do you know? JK!
ahahahahaha, good suggestion!!
@@therealjimmysworld So when you building a 6 years after a zombie apocalypse plane....
Possible parts list....
2 Huey`s 1 without a tail/engine/upper section/cockpit destroyed the other without a tail/engine/upper section
Lear jet rear section(wings rearwards) no engines..
@@johnregan3732 And it was single-pilot in a Piper Seneca II, at night, in IMC, and 5 sleeping passengers.
Belize! Kaye Caulker or the mainland would be a great area to do a mission.
I can foresee yellow streaks on jimmys plane!! 😂😂😂
Better than brown, IMHO ;}>
Imo the 421 was an attempt to get KingAir performance at a fraction of the cost. Even though all the commenters are railing about the prices, they are much less than a turboprop.
You make interesting videos about planes.
Ilopango is an airport in El Salvador that hosts a yearly airshow that skip Stewart frequence often would be awesome to see you guys together at that place
One adventure you could go on is Miami to Columbia...
This 421 has glass cockpit written all over it. G500 or 600 with GTN750 and GFC500 autopilot. Done and dusted. Okay, maybe not on a budget but one can dream. Avidyne makes some really cool affordable glass solutions as well.
I came here to see an aircraft and left here craving a medium rare Ribeye.
would be cool to see you upgrade the cockpit (with sponsors obviously because that would be expensive). Congrats on the aircraft.
If the steak is cooked anything beyond medium rare, just use it as leather.
That's a nice C421. Definitely a Jimmy's World special. 😄
Agreed on all counts
Well said!
I hope the grill on the engines compartment was a joke, since it has a propane tank in it and the engines storage are not pressurized. 🤔🙄
@@lcfflc3887 As Jimmy might say, "what could possibly go wrong? It'll be fine." 😁
@@stansdds well the whole engine blowing up, propane tanks are no joke, suggestion: buy a disposable propane tank when you get there, they go for about $10 at the hardware store, Walmart and Target has them too.
Love Jimmy's general av. adventures! The money involved makes my head spin. They should just quote costs in Camry units.
My God! locked with you in a little plane would be an intorable nightmare!!
Relax, behind that goofy shell I have on several occasions observed a somewhat competent aircraft owner.
You should Fly up the east coast with a stop on Ocracoke Island, NC, then on to Kitty Hawk, NC where it all begins.
Hey Jimmy if ya get tired of Airplanes, check out Cruising the Great Loop ! That has Jimmy and family written all over it !
nice
Jimmy come on out to KCJR !!! Love the 421 and what’s been done to it : Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 and May God truly bless you for flying supplies to Asheville NC and giving money away to bless others.
0:51 Do we include turboprops as GA airplanes? Cause that 441 in the background is just amazing. But for piston twins, 421C is hands down the best.
Good luck with your new plane Jimmy.👍
England for a few weeks then have a beer in Germany.
Glad you are happy Jimmy. Your attitude towards high use is definitely the right choice.
You see a tool, I see a huge depreciating liability. Differences of perspective. Safe flying, Cheers
Mackinac Island is a good one, if you never been there.
You beat me to this suggestion!
Congratulations Jimmy's world! What a beautiful 421! I remember the family Truckster ( Cherokee 6)😅
Jimmy you really need to get something with a jet engine
when you start the engine you can simply throw your hard earnt cash (your kids inheritance) directly into the front of the jet engine and watch it evaporate as ash out the rear end without going anywhere
Jim, I would not miss any of your video, you are a hoot. It is all good these days to laugh. Congratulation on this airplane completion of your dreams. Nice work, dude of an aircraft!
Nice-- come over to Sienna plantation here in Houston Texas- there’s a great coffee shop “Bean Here coffee” right by the airstrip- then we head out for a nice steak by Antonies Grille - thank you for keeping positive vibes and am always learning something new every time--
