Be very careful with flying that 421. According to recent incident reports, 2024, they're a handful to fly, especially if you've not flown one for a while. Staying current is vital. And watch the autopilot; it can send you into an unsurvivable flat spin with very little warning - less than a second, in the worst cases - if you're in icing conditions,

Jimmy, being a 50-year CFI and long time 421 pilot, I was glad to hear you will be getting “some training” in the Golden Eagle. It is needed. I highly recommend that you pay the big bucks to Flight Safety for their 421 Initial Training course. It could quite literally save you life. They will teach you operating methods that prevent very expensive repairs that are far more than the cost of their course.

I was shocked the first time I saw a 421, they are huge. I had only been in a baron 58 and a king air 350 (not a pilot). I can imagine you’d need some good training going to a plane of that size

    • @777CaptMark
      @777CaptMark 27 дней назад +4

Jimmy, I highly recommend that you follow the advice of many of your fans and followers here. Get the FSI training before you fly the 421 on your own. Just like you’re relying on that particular shop to repair and service the 421 to the highest standards, get the very best training you can find. That airplane is a lot for any pilot to manage and operate properly. Even with your experience and maturity, the slightest mistake or mishandling could “eat your lunch.” Don’t put yourself and your family at risk by cheaping out on training.
Also, having a well-trained and experienced professional pilot aboard to fly with you, at least initially, would be an excellent idea. Many celebrities who also fly their own planes do this as a precaution. It just makes sense.

Hey Jimmy, the 310 was not Cessna's first piston twin - that was the legendary T-50 Bobcat (check out early versions of Sky King). Fun fact, there was even a four-engine Cessna, the Model 620 back in 1956. One flew, but obviously, it never went into production. Good luck with the 421. It's a great flying airplane.

Jimmy , let me start saying something, I used to be a commercial pilot in Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 in the 80s , I flew from Cessnas 150, 172, 172RG, etc, I started flying while living in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 while in High School in a Grumman AA-2, later in life Cessna 340 and 414 , from there I jumped to Curtiss C-46 as a co-pilot , you and the rest of the people like you were my inspiration to come to this country I had been living here for the last 40 years , not regrets , joint the ARMY and became a CH-47D Chinook Mechanic , due to unforeseen problems in my life I haven’t flown, but occasionally, still today at 63 years old I have the aviation bug in my blood 🩸, and keep on watching constantly aviation videos . Hobby aviation in the USA 🇺🇸 has become really expensive , is like having a Rolex when actually you can tell the same time with a Walmart $10 dollars watch . But still today I have high hopes since the aviation community more than any other’s communities in any other field is a brotherhood. Enjoy all your aviation endeavors and keep on giving us more aviation videos .

This 421 is ripe for a full glass panel upgrade. No need to fiddle with complicated 1980s autopilot/avionics. Dump the gauges and go glass! As far as the 310 is concerned. We enjoyed and appreciate Jimmy taking us through the journey of resurrecting such a beautiful airplane. But sometimes we just have to let things die. It would be irresponsible for Jimmy to try to fix this plane, especially to the many fans who donated. It's not worth it and I think he knows it. Remember, it's not always about the destination; it's about the journey. Thank you for the memories 310. RIP.

Jimmy, I hope you can find a mentor pilot for this airplane, those were the best years of my life, when I was flying 421s in the early 90s all the way through 2006, I was a pilot/mechanic/chauffeur/ gopher, I really enjoyed being a paid pilot and mechanic, and used these aircraft as they were intended for corporate travel, it gave me the opportunity to do quite a few personal maintenance flights as part of the bargain, Tony and crew installed the spar strap kit in 421 whiskey Charley, when it became available, I had completed four annuals in that airplane while operating it, and never had to cancel a flight due to maintenance. And never did I ever have to worry about descending into Pueblo with severe mountain waves beating the crap out of the plane.

I've been waiting MONTHS for a status update on the Silver Bullet and 421. Thank you for that!
Glad the Silver Bullet is being saved - as a long term project that will be overseen by the best/most knowledgeable Twin Cessna shop in the country. You might be heartbroken Jimmy, but at least it will live on. Yes, it will take a while, and that is beyond what a 'normal' airplane owner would tolerate (ie not having his money tied up in a non-flyable airplane for an extended amount of time.)
It all comes down to that old adage: " Good - Fast - Cheap -- you can only have two out of three. " Being an airplane that you have to trust the life of yourself and family to, "Good" is a requirement - not an option, and that leaves fast or cheap. "Fast" would entail a 'drop-everything-else' group of professional aviation mechanics working on it full-time.
It will be interested to see what the misfire issue turns out to be with the 421. Didn't you have an issue with a Surefly/EIS mag on Cameron?

It seems like the 310 knew it's fate and that's why it was such a struggle to get it out of Florida with the failing landing gear motor. It knew when it got to Ohio they would find it had a terminal condition and would never fly again. That it would become a donor for other planes or just get tucked away to rot, again.
I know it's just a soulless machine but sometimes we give Planes, Boats and Cars a Personality and a Heartbeat while we have them in our care.

hint on the auto pilot problem, because they had to do so much work and overhaul the heater, I’ve had a couple of 421s where they didn’t tighten up the bee nut for the static reference in the nose on the auto pilot computer, and as long as everything was smooth, it would stay engaged, but as soon as you hit some rough air, the auto pilot would kick off.

The 421C looks nice! Definitely, get some FTD/AFTD training at one of the major training centers. The CE-421C with winglets is straight-leg gear, only; trailing link has straight wing. A VG kit and spoilers assists many pilots with slow flight regimes and ATC requested rapid descents. Be very careful not to get dirt, grime or moisture in the breaker panel and switches. During training, it can be eye-opening to have a simulated engine failure at 200 feet agl on takeoff while just entering the clouds! Great training scenario, though. If the VG kit installed, don't use the extra weight allowed for more passengers, use it for controllability in the event of engine failure. Keep ahead of the maintenance and you will have a very good time with the airplane. Glad to see you are part of the twin Cessna organization.

Good to see the Silver Bullet has a future. Looks like you joined the ranks of many who flew the early 310s and discovered the excellent handling/flying characteristics of this airplane. Moving on, the 421 is much more complex. I noticed a 310P among the parked airplanes. I flew three in the same series with a lot of time in N5796M. Those days passed much too fast.

310 to a 421, WOW!!! Hope you have some time on your hands, because you are going to need it for TRAINING.These are some of the most exhausting airplanes to fly and maintain. Had a friend that flew one for a car dealership out of Bethany OK. Wiley Post. That plane spent most of its time in maintenance. Not to be a buzz kill because it is definitely a ramp Queen but I hope you have someone local that is Truly knowledgeable on this aircraft. Cheers! I believe those other aircraft sitting behind the hanger are Cessna twins, maybe a 340 or 414.

I wonder if Avidyne and others will fall for it anymore. Or maybe Webb can trade the 421 for rebuild rescues $750,000.00 and climbing C401. : )
