The wite ground cable in the front wheel compartment. How does it like it´s life.. Like a cookie?
Just to let you know we have people praying for you and your family randomly
Love to but aint gonna happen for this aviation Jimmy fan.
Bud as a dad of 2 girls and 3 younger boys those words to the kids hit me in the soul and had me with a huge knot in my throat. Stay safe brother!
Jimmie that was God telling you to check the gear.
I'm a 310 owner. If anyone here buys a 310, the FIRST thing you should do is have a competent shop inspect and RIG the gear as per the maitenance manual, including the motor. Simply 'swinging the gear' is unacceptable. It's a well engineered system, but must be rigged.
100% agree
What does that mean?
@@wakkogn9351 The gear system is a complicated set of leavers, arms etc. They all have adjustments. If any of the adjustments are out of whack then it puts additional strain on the motors/joints. By "rigging it" you are getting all parts in adjustment so that they work with minimum strain and wear. It often has enough power to push through bad adjustments and hides it by simply doing a swing test.
Thank you for that explanation. Is that motor sound normal? It sounded stressed.
Glad you're OK, buddy! Good job keeping a cool head about it. Keep on rocking!
Looks like you did it by the book. No panic, reviewed procedures , evaluated, considered options and made a decision. I hear my insrtuctors voice in my head. During an emergency Aviate. Navigate, then communicate. Good job!
Airline pilot with more than 15.000 flight hours and been in few emergencies I can say you did the right decision. As soon the fire hazard was eliminated by pulling out fuse…., then there was no time critical emergency. As you perfectly explained you had time to think and review landing gear issues. Despite your limited experience you make the right choose and didn’t stress out or panicked that’s means your professional skills are good and I congratulate you. If someone tells you otherwise just answer back : I will love to see you in that circumstance.
You can be proud of yourself. Take care Jimmy and all the best.
Just curious, what airline(s) have you flown with? US or Canada?
@@stevesturdy4549 Canada, I have been flying since 1993. Cheers
@@stevesturdy4549 To be precise Air Canada now on Dreamliner.
No one cares that you're an "airline pilot." You say that, thinking it adds to your credibility. It does not. Just shows off your ego. 🤦
@@V1AbortV2 Shut up
This is textbook aeronautical decision making. Kept calm, thought it through and made it safely. Well done Jimmy!
You should do an episode with Pilot Debrief. Would be interesting to hear Hoover’s take on this incident.
I had the same thought wondering how Hoover would break this down.
Glad everything turned out good.
The perfect debrief, would his answer be.
Jimmy did his own debrief and came to the conclusion that he ignored his inner voice.
Probably already in thr works.. will be a good video
Hoover did a debrief of a video "FlyWithKay" did where he basically congratulated her on making smart decisions. I think the same would go here.
Aviation is all about conservative decision making. Mike Patey turned me onto the three strike rule with his Turbulence engine explosion video and I now apply it to all my decision making as far as when to fly or not. When you're in the air it's the same story, except at that point you just need to take care of yourself. I hope to have the same calm as Jimmy did if (God forbid) I ever have an in-flight emergency...
listening to that message for your family not going to lie made me tear up glad your ok JW
Same. Take care of yourself Jimmy.
That message put a lump in my throat too.
Same here! Sad reality of aviation life.
My heart felt like it went into my stomach when I watched Jimmy say; what could have been, his last words to loved ones.
14:25 That's a big share to post on the internet Jimmy, very dark but also very, very loving. You sir, major respect.
A ballsy honest video Jimmy. Respect Sir. 1. You could’ve put it on jacks and carried out mechanical and electrical rigging checks, 10 swings for confidence after an eight month lay up and if all is normal off jacks and go flying. The motor may or may not have failed during the swings. 2. You flew the first leg with no issues. 3. If the maintenance manual doesn’t call for brush wear checks, you won’t know until it fails. 4. The electrical connection to the brush may have caused the brush itself to break down or the brush breaking down may have caused the electrical connection to fail, either way it was goosed. The thing is you worked the problem methodically, got the gear down, got the plane down and stepped out of it. Others may do it differently but you were in the hot seat. Well done
yeah , putting the kung foo on that thing 😆
You disrupted the holes in the block of swiss cheese. Therefore you did your job. I applaud that. Great job!
I don't want to live in a world without Jimmy's world
Glad your safe man. Always follow your gut feeling. Its kept me alive
As a retired corporate pilot, this was your BEST video. Good luck with your new aircraft. Stay safe..
Happy to see you didn’t need to use your last few words to your beautiful family Jimmy ❤️
And don’t forget for all of us who have come to love, greatly respect you plus feel you are a genuine asset for us who love aviation 👍🏻…. We would really miss you saying “Clear Prop” ❤️
Well done Jimmy!!! Aviation---small parts , big consequences.
The one thing I like about what your doing is. SAFETY FIRST. And your family knows that, or they wouldnt get in. So keep on keepin on. 😊
The most important thing about flying is what to do when the thing does not fly and you sir nailed it, flying if you will is easy, pilot skills show up when you have to make it fly. Very well done. Glad your safe without incident, thankyou for sharing.
Man, I am glad you're okay, love your channel
Jimmy. that was truly a FINE example of how to handle in-flight emergencies. You first evaluated the situation (most importantly, did not panic), considered options, chose the best one, briefed on emergency procedures thoroughly, and the outcome was as successful as one could ever hope for. This video would be a great training tool for someone learning to fly. I think that Hoover on Debrief would completely agree with me. Also, it was nice to see you serious for a change - you've had me worried at times over the last two years, but I see that you have very sound judgement.
So glad for everyone involved - the crew AND family - that everything turned out OK in the end - 'just' a burned-up landing gear motor. pulling the breaker was the correct response.
Just about anyone can fly a plane when things are going well. It is when the 'schtuff-hitting-the-oscillating-ventilateur' that pilot training is for. i.e.: knowing the systems and what to do when any one-, two- or three of them conspire against our wishes. As you said in the beginning of this video - it is up to the old gray matter between the ears to minimize the risks - yes risks - of flying, and to do it in the safest manner possible. That is why good pilots will do a complete pre-flight check - following a checklist - so nothing is overlooked before EVERY flight.
A lot can happen in three hours of flight with vibration. Nuts/pins/screws come loose - check those aileron hinge cotter pins. Wires and cables can rub and chafe - almost fifty years ago one of my instructors told me to 'shake your tail-feathers' (elevators/rudder) to check for excessive play. Water can get into the fuel at a fueling stop - sump it!. If the weather changes enroute, be prepared to postpone the flight. Don't fall victim to 'get-there-itis'!
Risk assessment!!!
Jimmy I'm sooooo glad the Good Lord brought you back to us safe and sound!
We love you man!
The way you go over the birds you purchase, I trust you 100%.
Thank the Lord you were able to keep it together and perform to land safely. You might be one crazy dude but you are thorough Jimmy! Be well and stay safe! Love your videos and projects.🙏
Im glad you are ok. I think you owe that man that handled that buffer a beer or 2.
I’ve had moments in the air that I’ve thought about what I’d do having an emergency and a video to my wife and kids is one of them. Listening to yours made me very emotional. Thanks for being so transparent.
Hey Jimmy, Im glad it ended well.
Man, I began watching your videos not so long ago and it's really fun to watch. I'm very happy that you are ok. Safe and sound. Your family needs you. God bless all of you.
You got Murphed (Murphys Law). Glad it worked out Jimmy!
I for one will miss that 310. The Silver Bullet is beautiful but everyone needs to move on at some point. Thanks Jimmy.
Jimmy again like I said before God was you're co-polit Thank-you, for bringing it down safe God as you may know already we lost a RUclips polit from Rebuilt Rescue
Sam last month RIP Sam 🙏🙏
I love the 310, I flew one about 100 hours when I got and after getting my Multi-engine back in 1974.
Years ago I had a very similar problem with my Debonair. Worn brushes hung up on their wires, combined with a slightly out of round commutator, resulted in a dead motor. Had I turned the crank slightly they probably would have made contact and got the gear down electrically, but I didn’t know that at the time. I hand cranked the gear down successfully. Hand cranking is much more difficult in flight than it is when sitting on jacks. The air load on the nose gear makes a big difference.
Your decisions were sound, and I am glad that you had a good outcome.
Oh, and I flew in your hurricane relief trip! I live nearby.
Glad you and the plane made it safely back to earth!
Ah yes, the old FAA 8130-3 Form! I’ve signed literally tens of thousands of those during my career. Been retired for almost 8 years.
Jimmy, thanks for sharing, God Bless you and your family
Well done Jimmy, glad you are safe.
Glad you're OK Jimmy!
Thanks for being honest and letting myself and others learn from your experience.
Jimmy, glad your here to do another video.
What I love about this video is you talk about how you consider all your options and came up with a plan and flew that plan
Great video Jimmy! Thanks for debriefing this one.
God was with you!! Listen to that soft still voice
Glad you're still with us! Stay safe Buddy!
I'm so glad you are around to tell us what happened, and to produce much more great content. You are a credit to fatherhood too, for caring about your family, as well as the families of others who may buy your planes. Stay safe my friend.
Great job Jimmy! Way to stay calm and keep flying the plane.
Good job Jimmy and team!!! So happy that your training kicked in and you gave yourself the mental space to make and execute a fantastic plan.
Jimmy, I love your channel and love your clear concise narrative of all that happened. You rock. I'll keep watching every episode.
Hi, i never get tired of the Lancair .
Me too!
Much more respect for you Jimmy! I've had my license for 60 years and safety has always been my top point before flying. I felt that maybe you were just a wacky pilot that would either get yourself killed or injured. You've proven the point that flying can and will kill you if you don't take it seriously! I think you've learned a very valuable lesson from this! God bless you!
Another great video Jimmy. So glad you figured out the landing gear and you did not have problems landing. Keep
Making these videos.
I’m sure glad you kept your head and returned safely. Thank you god for bringing jimmy home to his sweet family
He kept you around for a reason!!! Thank God!
Glad everything turned out well. Momma always told me to listen to that little still voice.
It's good to see a detailed account of the actual pilots flight and thought process. Jimmy, you do good 👍
You would have never found that in any pre-flight check unless you'd have put it on jack's before you left!!
Glad you made it back home safe !!
Respect Jimmy!
I’m glad everything went well. I agree the distinct electrical burning smell has been a fear of mine as well. Safe travels 🛩️🏔️
Great job Jimmy! I’m glad you’re safe. I enjoy seeing the pattern and how much PCM has evolved since I got my private ticket there in ‘93. I haven’t been back to Plant City in over 20 years. Your videos bring back some good memories.
One of your BEST vids, Jimmy. Thanks for bringing us into your ADM, the whole time I was running options as "practice" and following along.
Glad youi made it home safe big dawg!
Glad you are safe Jimmy, great job!
Glad your ok! That inner voice always seems to be right! Stay safe my friend!👍🏽
Love the shot from inside the gear well. Glad you had a safe landing !
Happy it was a positive outcome Jimmy. Love you videos and just happy your ok and it worked out.
Well Jimmy, it was a bad rush. Thanks God you are safe and well, as well as the brave 310.
Safety first man, greetings from Brazil.
Greetings from the Cayman Islands, love your videos
Your decision making processes were sound and a great instructional video. Thanks Jimmy!
Prof that even the small things can bite you on the bum. Glad you sorted the situation and are safe, looking forward to more vids
Glad everyone was safe
Thank gosh you made it Jimmy.
This is by far the most important video you have ever done! Safety cannot be stressed enough for the casual pilot. Too many common mistakes are made by these pilots on their last flights! Check out Dan Gryder's or Juan Browne's sites to see and hear the results of bad decisions flying into weather, night landings, pilot stress, lack of knowledge on hot day flying, etc.! You took the time to run thru all the permutations that resulted in you being able to make the right decisions and come out of this as a well prepared, fortunate and (Lucky) pilot. Hope the flying crowd takes this to heart! Well done Jimmy!
First class decision making Jimmy. The ability to get all of your ducks in a row is a great skill to have when the pressure is on.
Jimmy is a legend!! So calm!
Well done Jimmy!Being you also a good mechanic helped you to take the best decisions to solve the problems 👏👏👏
Great explanation of your thinking. You're a good example for any pilots
Glad ur ok brother! Well done.
Thanks for sharing. Good story; great ADM.
Incredible story - great skills, that's why I love watching your content
Glad everything went smoothly!! Safe flights for you Jimmy!
Nothing like being in the air!
I'm happy for you that this flight ended well. Good job.
As I've said before I worked on this plane in the 1980s glad to see its back flying as it has a storied history..
Jimmy, that was such a touching moment that you shared regarding your potentially last message to your beloved family.
My beloved wife & I watch you with great affection, here in our little Medieval Castle in Northern Portugal.
Give each of your fine children and Wife a hug from us.
❤
Thanks for the info 😊
Jimmy been there, done that. I had a Piper Navaho that I was ferrying in the Caribbean that had an electrical failure that resulted in lost communications (I carried a portable) and my gear wasn’t confirmed down. After I had the same logical discussions with myself as you did, I cranked the gear down and prayed for a good landing. Luckily the gear held and I had an uneventful landing. From that point on, I always carried a backup portable radio and a jacket to stuff in the cabin door to prevent entrapment should I need to bail out of a buckled door frame. Fore armed is just as equaled as having an alternate plan!
Great idea
Great job jimmy. Close call but that’s what we train for brother. You get to have another emergency one day. Bravo !
You made all the correct choices and decisions. You and the airplane survived this incident. Good work. 😊
Once the magic smoke comes out it's all over, Jimmy, great job on staying cool and flying the plane [never stop flying the plane] Dang happy your still with us. Take offs are optional , landings are a must. Hope others have learned what it takes to be a good pilot like you.
Excellent video! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos over several years, and this is one of the best, most informative in my opinion. Good to see, as clearly evident in this and others of your videos, that you are first and foremost dedicated to your family.
Glad you made a safe landing Jimmy ,we all like to see you alive and more adventures with with and the family all safe
Jimmy thank you very much for this in depth explanation of what happened .That and staying calm and working the problem .I'm thinkin your going to listen to that little voice from now on ..And passing on what you know will certainly help others .2 👍👍. As an old guy taught me when i was a young man Safety first ,last ,and always .It's never a matter of if but when something will go wrong and are you ready to deal with it . And you were .
So happy you are ok Jimmy you seemed so cool and on point, nicely going my friend
Glad you anded safe and you and Grizzly found the problem. Enjoy all your videos and anything aviation. Going to miss the 310.
Everything worked out this time. You made smart decisions. The more hours you log the more you risk another emergency. You just found another problem with an old plane that you will check out on all the old planes you run across. What will be the next one? At a certain age a plane needs to be restored not just repaired.
It's encouraging Jimmy to hear your commitment to safety. Some people mistake your antics and showmanship for the way you do business thank you for straightening them out best of luck and all your endeavors
Great video. Thank you very much and always happy landings.
I'm glad you are ok.
Glad you're alright Jimmy. That was a great debrief, and I really appreciated the breakdown of your plans to get down safely. That kind of thinking in the air is how you break the swiss cheese model and get out alive. You also did well not to fixate on the problem (you noted how you were keeping an eye on airspeed as you cranked the gear). People have crashed planes just because the door came open during the flight.
As pilots, we should always have a plan and NEVER stop flying the airplane. Talking to ATC, using their advice, using folks on the ground to check your aircraft, etc are all great ways to get home alive.
Love from the BAHAMAS
amazing Jimmy - think you learned a valuable lesson there, not only to check and wheels up and down after a service, but to listen to that little voice in the back of your mind - sadly we see too many similar type accidents on Blancolirio 'pilots mistakes'
but also Jimmy i take my hat off to you admitting all this, your one of those guys that proves to us your honesty and the level of work you go to to make an aircraft airworthy and more importantly before resale - safety for some mad reason can be overlooked
Glad you made it ok Jimmy!
