Most recently was the Bella Hadid interview where she admitted to getting a rhinoplasty at 14. This sparked a lot of discussion around the topic of teens getting plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures. There is a lot of discussion about if it is safe or ethical to perform these procedures for purely cosmetic reasons, on kids and teens. I will talk about this Hollywood secret, some celebs that may have had early surgeries, and a medical article written by some well respected Plastic surgeons. #kyliecosmetics #BellaHadid
The first topic is about age. When is too young? Something I leave to you to decide. But I cover the ages that some celebs got their surgeries or procedures and what they were.
Next is the Article and what it spoke about, as far as what ages are appropriate for which surgeries and why. The main issue being the lack of research into the safety of certain procedures in teens and kids. The Doctors who wrote the article also put forward their own guidelines that they believe surgeons should follow when it comes to certain cosmetic procedures and surgeries. One thing that Dr. Rohich and Dr. Cho explain, is how procedures should probably wait until after growth is complete.
Shockingling, before they proposed these guidelines, there have not been any guidelines for appropriate ages for cosmetic plastic surgery. And we know that in 2020, 229,000 plastic surgeries were completed on kids ages 13 to 19.
Overall, we can see Disney stars, Tv Stars, and more who chose to get work done at a young age.Does it make it right? Is it too early? Should we let young people get dermal fillers, botox, rhinoplasties and more? Let me know what you think in the comments.

When I was 15 and insecure, it’s scary to think how much surgery I would have had done if I was able to. I’m glad I built my confidence internally, because you can’t fix an internal problem with an external solution.

Underage plastic surgery makes it hard to tell if celebrities and influencers had plastic surgeries. The worst part is they deny it easily because they're young and their bodies were still changing which make them seem as natural. People believe them because they're unaware that underage plastic surgery is legal
I remember Doja saying how bodies changes and nobody looks like they did when they were 14, is so easy to hide plastic surgery based on that excuse
I’m surprised more celebrities don’t claim that they got nose jobs because they have a deviated septum, which many people do legitimately have to get surgery for. However, the surgery for it isn’t cosmetic at all and focuses on being able to breath through your nose without any issues, which may include making your nose LARGER rather than smaller.
@@ImpetuousPorkus Yeah but the nose doesn’t actually change with a deviated septum. Maybe the angle may change due to the severity but in general the nose looks the same.

@@GirlDo3 I wasn't trying to deny anyone's experience, just that as you mentioned it this can be a great excuse to hide big changes that can't be attributed to "growing up" like changings in bone structure or suddenly having a big ass or chest like Kylie did
If I were a parent I’d be fine with my child or teenager getting surgery to repair a defect, injury, or extreme feature as long as it matched up with age guidelines. But I would never let my hypothetical child get lip filler or Botox to look “better” in photos. That’s ridiculous.

When I was 13, I had cosmetic surgery on one of my ears, because it stuck out a lot more than the other ear. My parents agreed because they saw how fixated I was on it, and how much distress it caused me. To be honest, I'm not sure if anyone else really noticed...but it meant a lot to me, and I don't regret it.
@@Dil3MM4 i was bullied when i was child for having big ears. My helix didn't develop correctly so they dont have a fold at the end. I dont even know if there's a term for that but i really want to have surgury. I can't wear my hair up because after being bullied im too self-conscious about it. It really sucks.

I disagree with plastic surgery for bullied teens. Transferring classes or schools or counseling are more affordable/healthier than expensive/permanent surgery. Changing your body for others especially for actual kids/teens is unhealthy, sad and sooo wrong.
@@angelflorence That's more socially acceptable and there are non-profits that help children with those surgeries. Maybe some doctors who offer discounts or at no cost. Not the same not at all.

I was sexually assaulted as a teen because of my breasts, and until I got a breast reduction I was known as the "girl with big boobs" by almost everyone, transferring schools wouldn't have helped. I think there are some cases where surgery is a good option.
If I had been allowed to get plastic surgery in my teens I'd have an entirety different face 🤣 and I like my face now and am pretty! I know Gigi and Bella have had tons of privilege but being raised by Yolanda couldn't of been easy. And mother wounds go deep in my experience.
They'd probably trade it all to have a loving mother and happy childhood I know from experience , how is it legal to let a child get plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons ? How can kids who have persuasive narcissistic parents be protected then?
Saaame. I definitely bloomed after my mid twenties!! Now I really appreciate my features, and I get lots of compliments. Before, I never used to be told I was pretty. I really grew into my nose and ears. Also, I lost some baby fat off my face and now my face looks more sculpted! You just need patience ♡
@@stalkingpedrochannel Mid-20s change everything! I was a super insecure teen, and probably looked my best from 19-25. It wasn't until then, though, that I finally accepted my features and first thought I could actually be kind of pretty, not for others but for myself. Now into my 30s, I'm so much more confident in everything, realizing that looks aren't all that important and other things are what truly makes a person beautiful. I may not look quite like I did at 22, but I still look young and my confidence and ambivalence are far more attractive than any physical attribute.

I knew a girl who had breast reduction during our junior year of high school. She was really short and a DDD. It was causing severe back issues. Got it covered by insurance. Didn't regret it at all. Sometimes not all cosmetic surgery is purely cosmetic, so thanks for including the education about that I the beginning!

It sounds like she did it for health reasons instead of cosmetic, in that case it would be strictly "plastic" surgery instead of "cosmetic plastic surgery"

as someone who got a silicone breast implant after a 2 pound tumor by the age of 21, there were so many wavers and booklets i had to read hearing about the potential complications. not to mention the backlash i have received over getting any plastic surgery in general. i’ve heard everything from support to statements like “you should’ve just kept it with no reconstruction, you’ll regret it”. i was severely deformed after the tumor, as it was nearly 90% of my breast tissue, and would have had more mental strain if i got a partial mastectomy. i love my implant and i love my chest, plastic surgery saved me honestly, and this channel has really helped me feel okay with a decision i had to make very young. plastic surgery is still such a taboo thing, even when deemed medically necessary, so i appreciate what you do and hope to see you keep growing!

I don’t know why people are so heavily against breast implants at all cost. I find them pretty even though I wouldn’t want them in my own body because I am scared of complications, but when I see them, I think “well done” 👍🏻
That’s very interesting! Sorry to hear that the tumor happened to you, that sounds very scary. I’m just curious, were you made aware that these implants can pop and cause infections? Do you have to get it changed every 10 years? I’m sure you know all the complications, but in my opinion I don’t think I could ever get them done out of fear of them being dangerous for my body.

Plastic surgery is a very personal thing and it doesn't sound like you made your decision lightly. I can totally understand that having a deformity at that age, due to a tumour may have had a catastrophic affect on your mental health, so the option to change this must have been a relief for you.
@@colettesutton4024 it’s an incredible relief to feel comfortable in my skin after never having been my entire teen-young adult life. it caused a lot of trauma and strain on my mental health for a lot of years and there hasn’t been an ounce of regret when it comes to my choice. it’s not something i’d seen many 20 something’s going through so sharing my experiences with other people really just helps and destigmatizes the idea that plastic surgery is a bad thing. thanks for listening!

I’m 23 and my face isn’t even the same as it was last year. Not being conceited, but I find myself much more attractive than I was when I was a teen, and I get much more attention from men than I did even a year ago. How can you change your face when it’s not even fully formed?
Not conceited at all a lot of people including myself felt we wouldn't be considered attractive in our teen years. Some kids bloom later in life.
Yet a lot of people on this channel don't realise this. If you were famous they would say you had surgery.
As you age you start to loose the baby fat in your face and that can really make a difference on some people.
I think people age / grow into their features. I’m 23 too and can definitely see a difference in my face compared to when I was a teen. I love my face as I’ve grown up even more than I did when I was younger. Though I’m not against plastic surgery at all. As I age I might even consider subtle things like slight Botox or fillers.
i'm 21 and i was genuinely weird looking until a couple months after i turned 20 so to hear that i could still change even more within the next couple of years is really comforting!
In my opinion, getting cosmetic surgery in impressionable teenage years can be damaging or done with a skewered perception of what one thinks they should look like. You’re not fully developed (body, mind etc) and have not yet experienced enough of the world or knowledge to fully realize the regrets one might face. Many have regrets and thus, wish they had not been pressured or felt pressured to look a certain way based on Eurocentric standards, racism, patriarchy, misogyny etc. Thanks for the vid!

I have plastic surgery to take off excess skin after weight loss. You absolutely get into the mindset of “man, I can just do this and that and make it look like this.” I got my surgery in my 30’s now imagine if I was 17?

right off the bat, kylie jenner factually started getting work done as early as 14-15 too. kylie says her lip filler was getting first thing but her and kendal both had their first nose jobs by 16
That’s a good point regarding lip filler but the first signs of filler I see are solidly in 2014 when she would’ve been about 16.5. You can reference Getty (nose was not until 17)
@@LorryHill yeah cuz i distinctly remember she had just turned 17 when she admitted to lip filler, and that was after she had it for a significant amount of time. and also, ironically, kendall has had way more stuff done at a younger age, so i’m confusing kylie with her i think lol

No, having plastic surgery to deal with bullying is nonsense. If kids want to bully someone, they will find a reason no matter what. You need to cultivate confidence in yourself and learn how to deal with negativity rather than jump to the most drastic options.
True, I personally believe that if there is something about yourself that you want to change/get surgery for once you've reached adult age that you've wanted to change for a while and its for yourself only, then thats fine. But getting surgery to repair insecurities that were caused by others is something that is almost always regretted.

I had lash extensions put on me yesterday, they gave me a big boost in my overall appearance. Today my lash tech uploaded my picture on her site but she put a blur on my face to bring focus to my eyes, that didn't bother me. What crushed me however is that she made my nose look smaller. I reached out to her and said it hurt my feelings that and it confirmed me to me that it's not just what I think it could be what others think as well. She said she was so sorry for making me feel that way and she re uploaded the original picture. It still stings however I can understand why these women and men have surgery especially on the nose I feel it's a sore spot for a lot of people I empathize with them. I love your videos Lorry you don't belittle them you empathize with them

Thanks for mentioning the distortion of the camera phones. I didn't know that. Any time I feel confident while looking in the mirror I'll go to take a photo and feel bad because I just can't seem to capture what I saw in real life. It's disappointing, but now that i understand what you're saying about the phone camera I feel relieved. ♥️
I'm not sure where they went wrong with the cameras but it's not cool. Mine automatically had a filter that I had to remove (because I want to look natural). But to have a camera that's supposed to capture people/things in real time...and actually be an exaggeration just sucks.

I didn’t know this too until I started using TikTok lol! there’s this trend where you use the zoom filter and place your camera down far, and I it was the first time the way I looked on camera matched what I saw in the mirror because it removes some of the distortion.
Try taking selfie horizontally, I think it gets less distorted. At least my selfies are always way better if taken horizontally
Yes that’s why they use professional cameras and lens and when they use their phone they usually are filtered or hiding their face in the photo
But if someone is being bullied is NOT on them to change ANYTHING, it's society that has to make a change.
There are also situations where the parent has had surgery so the kid gets surgery to look like their parent, because they just see it as the obvious choice since their parents already did it. I met a girl who got breast implants because her mom had it, so she basically spent her younger teen years going "It's okay that I'm flat, I'll just get implants like mom".
That’s gonna end up being all the Kardashian/Jenner’s children when they grow up with their parents’ natural features and their moms keep photoshopping their children social media photos

Honestly who actually likes how they look as a teen? We are all awkward looking! While I love your videos, I don’t think surgery is the answer to bullying. You should do PS for yourself, not to please others. Im glad we’ve expanded acceptable definitions of beauty. I’m glad I never changed anything (I could have) because I did get a lot of pressure. Now I love my natural look!
I think around 18 is when my adult look finally formed so that feels like a good age to start if you REALLY are unhappy. I would wonder how a surgery alters if your face grows post surgery.
I would have gotten more modeling opportunities but I don’t think it’s worth getting surgery for. The industry is fickle, it’s not worth changing yourself for a job.
i think it's not very comfortable for teens to look weird or awkward nowadays because of the beauty standards on the media and they constantly get the pressure to fit in. im 18 now and i just started to like my face but i still hate myself on camera

Here in Colombia you have parents gifting girls nose jobs for their quinces, I had many school mates with their bandage's. I would like to say it didn't affect me but I when you start university people start getting their boobs done, liposuction, etc... You see them looking perfect and that no matter how much exercise and diet you do nothing changes, I am in recovery from an ED most of women in my family have one. Honestly If it wasn't from my mother I would probably changed my whole appearance.

I struggled as a kid and teen/struggle still as a young woman with my image too, seeing Lorry talk about how celebrities alter their bodies really helps me making peace with what I see in the mirror and pictures, and understanding that what I see in me is just normal and how it is supposed to be. My gf is from colombia and her whole family has had several procedures and so young is was shocking to me in Canada
I was around 19 when I was interviewing for various fields like modelling/ air hostess where face matters the most. They used to literally hold me and turn all around as of I am a cloth piece. Once in such interview of modelling, My chin was held by a woman, narrowed her eyes and said that I need my chin to get reduced.
I was studying and saving money simultaneously until 22 to have my face changed.
It has been 9 years and I don't regret at all for listening my heart instead of a random woman. I spent my money on myself, bought luxurious items for my family..and now I am happy just the way I look. I look different that what I used to. How body works!
There is no shame in having plastic surgery. I think one has to wait until body is completely matured (around 22-25 years).
I don't agree with you about the bullying thing. I was bullied through middle school for my features, and I hated my appearance so much, but I never had plastic surgery because my mom wouldn't let me. Now I'm glad I didn't. I learned to love my unique features and I'm proud of who I am, so what I really needed wasn't to change my appearance, but to get away from that terrible environment and from the kids that were mean to me in order to gain self esteem. That's why I think teens shouldn't be encouraged to get plastic surgery unless it's done to fix a health issue or deformity.
Back when I was in sixth form (thats 11th/12th grade in the US) several girls in my class started getting lip fillers, and were pretty openly admitting to it which kind of normalised it. I dont think under 18s should get work done unless theres a clear medical reason, and theres never a clear medical reason to get fillers.

I read an interesting opinion article specifically about teens getting plastic surgery to solve the problem of being bullied. The author made a really strong argument that when victims of bullying get cosmetic procedures done to “fix” themselves, they’re letting the bullies win. Bullies are the ones that need to change themselves and their attitudes, not those who were bullied. It’s interesting how strongly society pushes people to fit the norm, especially when it comes to looks.
Kids need to learn to not bully others for how they look. I personally don't think anyone should be influenced to get plastic surgery because of others putting them down. It's really an issue on the other end. Parents need to raise their kids to be kind and respectful to everyone.

I think the deeper issue you are talking about is how many cultures are abusive so becoming a healthy adult that is self-actualized with healthy self esteem is sooooo hard as you take harm from abuse. Many individuals need to change because they can only teach their kids what they have achieved. If we keep normalizing being broken and insecure we won't change.

It’s shocking to me that teenagers are allowed to make such radical changes to their appearance. There’s a reason we have things like minimum drinking age etc
America is wack. You can change your face when you are 14, go to war at 18 but God forbid you have a drink before you are 21😭
Majority of the the time the minimum age for surgery is like 16-18 but most doctors in america will do anything for more money, so they'll basically perform surgeries on anyone as long as they're making more money.
I remember wanting plastic surgery so badly when I was 13-16! But at 22, I've now grown into my features and am forever glad I didn't! I've naturally grown into the strong and beautiful woman I am today and it saddens me that so many teenagers are deprived of that opportunity!
I believe a lot of parent forget how they can influence their kid insecurities. Growing up, my mom told me many time that my thigh were too big and I should loose some weight. At the time, I was 5'6'' and 118 lb, so far from fat. I always found that comment disturbing, since I new I was on the slim side and didn't need to lose some weight. I fought back my mom everytime. At some point she stop saying that, but the damage could have been worst. I'm not sure if it is link, but I never like my legs, event now more then 10 years later.
I had a friend in high-school who had an eating disorder because of her mom saying her thighs were too big. She was only 90 lbs too.
I agree! When I was 11 I was overweight. I didn't even realize I was fat until my mom started pointing it out. It wasn't in a nice way either. I'd get called a cow and fat all the time and she'd also say to stop eating after 5PM. I dropped the weight but this led to a full blown eating disorder/bulimia until the age of 20. At that point I was 103 lbs and got compliments every single day of how good I looked and how I should be a model. My friends were jealous and my mom was PROUD. I'm healthy now (I'm 30) but my mom's words affected me beyond words that I still struggle mentally every day. I could and would never do this to an adult let alone a child.
@@dianal3336 I'm so very sorry. I'm glad that you're doing well now. A mother can inflict so much damage with comments like that! My mother was the same way. She wanted me to be perfect looking and picked on me for everything from weight, skin color, hair texture, etc etc. Totally wrecked my self esteem by age 12.

So, definitely, these girls shouldn’t have been bullied by their mothers, and certainly, any crash-dieting or eating disorders that ensued are absolutely awful and shouldn’t happen to anyone. But, if we agree on that, then I don’t understand how you can suggest children should get plastic surgery to please bullies. Is it okay to listen to bullies in a playground but not your own mother? My point is: each example is bullying, and bullying ruins your self esteem. When you internalise that bullying, you tell yourself you’re fat or your nose is too big; you start to believe that it is true. Then, when you change your appearance to suit other people you are simply validating their abuse. They were right to bully you because you were defective and needed to be “fix”ed?
It’s a damaging message to send young people. At a young and vulnerable age, it’s telling them they’re not good enough as they are. Moreover, it’s telling them that they should let other people’s opinions of them, and specifically of their body/face, define their worth as a person. Young people are developing something much more important than their bodies, they’re developing a sense of self, self-worth, belonging, and that must be nurtured and cherished above everything.
Usually, I really appreciate your evenhanded approach to cosmetic procedures, I’ve followed you for a while specifically for your great content and progressive approach… but this time I feel like you unfortunately, and perhaps unintentionally, sent a harmful message.
Teenage plastic surgery is very common in affluent areas. Where I grew up a lot of kids got nose jobs gifted to them as teenagers, plastic surgery can definitely enhance self esteem but I think when you do it very young it can make you put too much value in your appearance.

I’m pretty sure olivia rodrigo got breast implants as soon as she turned 18. she was already showing them off in her pictorials/red carpets (infamous black ysl dress) before they even dropped so its obvious but in her recent stuff they’ve finally settled

In my opinion, plastic surgery on teens should only be allowed if it's something they need to live a normal life... like breast reduction, I'm quite sympathetic because I know the weight of the breasts starts impacting the person's posture, leaving them with back problems... Or any other thing that impairs the young person of living in a healthy way

If I had all the plastic surgery I'd wanted when I was in high school I would look completely different. I understand how agonizing it is to be teased for something that has nothing to do with your character or personality, but I would never advise a teen to get plastic surgery for aesthetic reasons. You may end up loving that feature in ten years and even if you don't you can always get plastic surgery later.
I wonder what are the psychological effects of comestic surgeries (with no medical conditions) on underage people? I feel like it’s encouraging people to put a lot of value on appearance than intelligence/personality/character etc. but then again pretty privilege is real.
I would love to the a study of this too. I’d imagine these things would be explained to kids properly (beauty standards, psychological effects, etc.) but the cosmetic industry knows they make bank off of insecure kids and adults. 😕

I knew when I was about16 that I wanted a breast reduction. I finally got mine at almost 23. Best decision I ever made and I encourage other women to get it done too. You do not have to suffer and you shouldn't have to.
I honestly feel like reductions should not be classified as cosmetic, they're almost always for medical reasons like pain
In my opinion plastic surgery should be affordable and available to those who really want it.
There is so many hurt people walking around because they don't feel good about themselves.

I want smaller boobs, but not for medical reasons. It's purely for aesthetics and comfort. I can't stand underboob sweat, can't stand how they shift when I sleep and how they sit on my throat, I hate having to wear bras, I hate having to deal with gravity & sagging, I hate the way they flop around when I exercise, I also hate how I can't wear certain necklines bc of them, etc. I just want to lop them off. As soon as I have enough money, I'm getting a reduction and will proudly join the itty bitty titty committee. I'm doing it for me and my own peace of mind. I've wanted this since my teens and thought about it through my 30s. Besides finances, the other thing that held me back were women in my life who suggested I keep them bc my future husband would appreciate them! There is so much internal misogyny the way we reinforce women's discomfort just to appease men! My womanhood isn't defined by my bra size. If a man doesn't want me when my reeses cups become reeses pieces, then he doesn't deserve to hold the cookie jar. I'll just stay comfortable single and keep myself busy doing jumping jacks & running bra-less in the park! Ah how I wish to be that free!
When I was in HS (in the 80s) MANY girls in my school had rhinoplasties at about 16. Most ppl in that community had ethnic noses, and few women kept theirs until adulthood.
Getting plastic surgery at such a young age, is just, in my opinion, not right. I think u should atleast b 21 to get plastic surgery. Idk bc ur body changes and u get older and look diff just from aging. Atleast wait till u know for sure what u want and how bad u want it. When I was in elementary, I'm in my 30s now, I remember 2 sisters getting otoplasty. I remember everyone was shocked their mom allowed them to go through that but I think they were both so self conscious they would never have their hair up.
I love ears that stick out. Many models have them. To each their own I guess.

I would also like to include this sentiment; the unfortunate sudden boom and necessity to use Webcam features (for both underage and adults) aka zoom for school/work/socializing since 2020 has added to this burst of consultations. Speaking for myself, I absolutely despise the way I appear on a live video chat and I don't have fancy top tier lighting and equipment. The shadows casted on my face make me look so sullen and drawn when it's not a realistic version of myself at all! I was shocked at first as though I was looking back at a 30+ year older version of myself! It was terrible. I think many people have suffered with this young and older, and obviously have suffered the sad and horrible circumstances that brought on social distancing for all of us for quite some time. one of my siblings was born with a cleft lip and palette, and has gotten a couple rhinoplasties. the last rhino they’re getting is gonna occur once they’re in their 20s, but the majority of surgeries happened prior to turning 10
@Jay Jay they have a really healthy perspective on their appearance thankfully! they don’t know what they would look like without it and doesn’t hold too much grief over it. they’re getting a double jaw surgery in august and they’re really excited for the benefits from it!

My daughter was born with a unibrow and it has always been a prominent feature on her face. I always taught her the importance of self confidence and not letting bullies get to her as she reached school age. However, I learned it’s only so much negativity a person can take and so at the age of 11 she told me she was ready to get rid of her unibrow. I respected her decision and tweezed her brow. Seeing her face light up and confidence increase gave me so much satisfaction. Although, this wasn’t plastic surgery, I do understand how someone who is unhappy with a particular physical feature may want to change it. Do what makes you happy.

There’s so many surgeries and tattoos I wanted to get at age 14-16 and I’m so happy that I never went though with those things. As I grew up and matured I learned how to love myself and appreciate all the things about myself I didn’t really like when I was 14. There’s days I still don’t always like what I see but I’m a work in progress ❤️

I have chronic sinusitis and I went to the doctor when I was 15 , he told me that he had to perfome a functional rhinoplasty and if I wanted I could get rid of my Dorsal hump, I said yes and I had to wait until I turn 16, I'm now 24 and it was an extremely good job, it looks natural, I think one of the main issues is that teenagers don't like to wait until it's fully grown, because of how they get treated in school, I'm from Europe and I had to suffer from 6 to 11 grade, how they used to call me toucan, Woody Woodpecker, all these kinds of things, so not all the times it's about posting on social media it's about your classmates and how cruel teens can be and it's not about changing classes or your school because I did that, to every school that I went there was always someone making fun of my nose.
I was surprised by how much my own personal views on plastic surgery aligned with the medical guidelines. I would also add cosmetic dentistry to the list of what I would consider acceptable.
I think it’s dangerous for teens to get plastic surgery outside of those guidelines. If there isn’t a medical need, it could cause more harm than good. I also think people should wait until they’re 25. The brain is fully developed by then and you’re less likely to regret your decision because you have more wisdom and an idea of the impact of your decision. Not to mention that as you age, you’ll be able to physically see what your face looks like as a fully grown adult and whether that’s actually something you’d want to change.
Anyone else notice that celebrities upload childhood pictures where they have photoshopped the pictures to look more like their current plastic surgery?
Pamela Anderson was the beauty standard when I was in high school. My sister used to compare me to Tara Reid. I was insecure about my “flat” chest but am so glad I never had access to surgery because I love my little boobs now.
I usually agree with you but there’s one thing in this video I disagree with. When you were talking about teens and kids getting bullied and how it’s totally okay for them to get plastic surgery to stop the bullying.. yes it’s okay but I think we should focus more on stopping kids from bullying each other over someone nose or ears before we put them under the knife.

Getting surgery to “fix” (using lorry’s words) what the bullies didn’t like, sends a message that the bullies were right to bully you. And that their bullying worked.
Agreed totally. The best solution to a problem is stopping the problem completely, and that would be stopping the bullies. Because at the end of the day, they will just find somebody new to bully, and we’ll be living in a world where we all have cosmetic surgery by the time we’re 18.
I agree completely. I would add that families can't always stop bullies, but if they have the money for plastic surgery, they should have the money for therapy/moving schools etc. instead.

I got plastic surgery at 16-17! It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I had a giant birthmark under my eye and a mole on my nose that I got removed in two sessions. Everyone thought it was a black eye and asked me about it, and I couldn’t cover it with makeup. The surgeries were largely covered under health insurance because they had a small chance of becoming cancerous. Now 6 years later I look normal and you can barely see the scars! No regrets ❤️

I myself had an assymetrical breast augmentation with silicone implants at 20 and would be curious to know why they aren’t recommended at that age since the breast growth is over in most people ?
Not true, many factors contribute to our body’s still growing and changing well past the age of 20. Getting pregnant, breastfeeding, weight gain, etc all contribute to growing and changing breast sizes. I’m 26 and my boobs are STILL growing without much change to my weight. I fluctuate between 110-115lbs, but my bras continue to get tighter and tighter until I have to go up another size.

I’m 29 and my boobs are still growing due to hormonal changes. I think the rule is in place because any real growth to the bust is minimal after 24.

I got my jaw done when I was barely 18. It was significantly smaller then the rest of my face. I had trouble closing my mouth, and chewing, so that was the main reason for surgery, but the change to my look was amazing for me. I feel way more confident, and I finally feel like I have my face, not a bone deformity.
I don't agree on consenting to plastic surgery early in a person's development. Or any drastic surgery for that matter, in particular bypass surgery to lose weight out of vanity instead of medical condition. Unfortunately, Lorry, family pressure to making one feel bad under their skin is a common factor when I was growing up which does give a complex to someone's mentality on their looks. Luckily, I didn't fall pray to those pressures, and as I got older, I learned to enjoy the skin and body I am in. Confidence comes with time and appreciation of oneself.
Puberty is like a natural plastic surgery. It's best for people to just wait until they naturally grow into their features. The time when I actually started to look decent looking was junior year. My features from back then kinda made me look dorky but by the time of nearing the end of High School I grew into my features, heck even my family members were surprised.
Great video Lorry, I do not agree at all that teenagers do plastic surgery because they’re going on puberty and haven’t developed all of their natural features yet but it’s good to know all this official information. It’s great that this is not a taboo anymore in some many ways but it’s scary how plastic surgery is happening younger and younger and younger, I hope this doesn’t escalate to something worst in the future and that we teach to kids and teens to love themselves more and grow their self-esteem in the right way so they don’t do those procedures for the wrong reasons. Plastic in teens can be life saving but it can also even open a worse case of bullying. I've seen it and its sad
I do suggest people making sure their features are fully formed before they turn to surgery. I do regret not having my parents pay more attention to my teeth and nose after I had gotten beamed on the face with an icy snowball as a kid. My nose was possibly broken and began to grow crooked…along with my teeth, leaving me sick and congested far more often than my peers. I bought dental insurance as soon as I could while living at home and started trying to repair some of the damage. (My parents struggled in some ways, and I don’t really blame them. Reliable insurance for a family can be so costly.) I finally got my septum adjusted in my late 20s, but by then, I discover I needed jaw surgery and tonsil removal and am in severe pain. I’m very happy with most of my features after being such a late bloomer, but my nose and teeth are likely gonna be a life long burden. I do think people should wait until their 30s to consider buccal fat removal. I was pleasantly surprised to see cheekbones peeking out of my baby face and they’ve only gotten sassier 😆

I don’t think anybody under 21 should have any cosmetic surgery or non invasive procedure unless they have a deformity. If you can’t buy a beer in the US until you’re 21, you shouldn’t be allowed to make such an extreme life altering decision either.
Whilst I completely get what you are saying I think this might just encourage people to go abroad. The USA has that age limit on certain items, but where I am (the U.K.) ours are lower, and in other countries lower than that. So people will either get it done abroad or worse get it done illegal in an unsafe environment.

Kinda funny when you think about how life expectancy has increased, it means you should be able to spend more time as a kid. Instead, all we're doing is pressuring kids to grow up sooner.
Nothing can make up for a lost childhood. Just keep that in mind.
I really think what would be wonderful for teens being bullied is access to mental health resources and also funding to work on bullying issues in school. I think that should be the first resort.

Weirdly I think that the trend of people "flaunting" their procedures is good. The more we demystify celebrities and beauty the less obsessed with it we'll be.
I do think it's a little dangerous to say "well if you're getting bullied you should fix that". I know you're thinking about the individual but I don't think it's beneficial for them in the long term to associate their appearance with being undeserving of other people's respect.
Another issue not talked about is those who get work done but never actually heal from their insecurities still continue the cycle of bullying those who had the same features the person disliked about themselves.

I had a breast reduction at 18 but I started looking into it when I was 15, it truly saved my life and was one of the best things i did for not just my self esteem but my physical health
it's different when it's for health and pain relief though, these people are manipulating perfectly fine body parts.
I’m glad she mentioned a cleft palate or lip rhinoplasty, as I am 26 just now following up on having the asymmetrical appearance corrected that I should have done as a teenager. I’m glad I’m doing it later even though I’ve always been unhappy but never bullied about it because my self image is pretty concrete. And I am better able to communicate my needs to my doctors and also having it covered under Medicaid as a student is a plus.

As a teenager myself,there's a point in life where everything seems to go wrong body wise you try to.compare yourself with everyone else ,it's a new low for u cause we haven't felt that as a kid ,you just hope someway you can alter the appearance but as you grow you begin loving your body and I hv personally experienced it ,so any kid out there who feels insecure please believe in your Beauty
We talk about social media and cameras, but I'd think the leading cause to want plastic surgery at a young age is bullying/peer pressure. Even our grand parents had to deal with wanting to change body feature in middle and high school, and they didn't have social media nor were they taking selfies back then. At best it exacerbated it.
My son won't take his mask off at all cause of his acne. He was bully for it before but now he gets bully cause of the mask.
Your son has to have his acne cured. Hopefully you’ll fully support him in that, it’s a disease and needs to be cured.
Maybe try accutane I had terrible acne in high school and nothing helped. I took accutane for 10 months and it is completely cured now I barely get any hard red pimples anymore just little black heads and white heads sometimes

Before your son tries ro/accutane (isotretinoin) which is an oral treatment with many side effects, please try the topical version, tretinoin, which is a gel you just put on your face before bed. I had great results with benzoyl peroxide and adapalene (tretinoin), acne completely reduced. I wish your son all the best.

i think at the end of the day this whole narrative of "i wanna be more confident/i wanna look better/im doing it for myself" just comes down to giving in to your insecurities that does NOT emerge from the inside but people around you, the media and just all the external factors. literally who decides what nose looks good or not? who decides what eyes look good or not? the day we stop giving in to the standards and accept our own beauty for what it is would be the day we will win. as for teen plastic surgery, guys... give yourself time let your features GROW there's certain things that looked a bit off on my face but now they just fit well together cus my face has grown. just give yourself time.
I wonder if a teenager getting cosmetic surgery would have good result? I just wondered since I watched a lot of videos of people not liking the result they had (especially with nose jobs) and wondered since teens have less experience, guiding adults who are knowledgeable about surgeries or have had it themselves, money and resources available could make a good decision in finding a good doctor. Discussions on plastic surgeries is not something I'm familiar with in my everyday life since not a lot of people I know could even hope to afford it and as someone in their 20s and feel so unsure about life I wonder if a teen could get the results they love because I couldn't imagine how hard it is to muster the courage to, for example, do another nose jobs and not to mention the money it costs since most teens are financially dependent on their parents.

I got a breast augmentation at 18 because I had tuberous breast deformity. It was definitely a wonderful life-changing decision and I'm so glad I did it early so it didn't affect my adult life. I was extremely insecure about it. I understand teens who get plastic surgery if they are being bullied--agree with your take. However, I think teens getting botox and filler is pretty devastating. It's a nuanced topic for sure.

I've honestly never thought of underage plastic surgery, except for medical or trauma related cases.
I see a lot of children getting surgery, as a doctor, mostly surgical reasons e.g. appendicitis, bowel pathology, or orthopaedic trauma - fractures.
