Same. Made me realize that the reason I hated Corny so much back on the day was because he was so passionate about trying to get me to hate him, and that passion extends to everything in his life.
Seeing this for the first time the day after his passing. Sad to lose him but heartwarming to watch this tribute and see his peers honor him like this. RIP Beautiful Bobby.
In a speech in front of dozens of hall of fame wrestlers Steve Keirn proclaimed Bobby Eaton the greatest professional wrestler of all time. The first wrestler to his feet to give that comment a standing ovation, Ric Flair That’s all you need to know on how great Bobby Eaton was
To think a year later he's no longer with us. Glad he got the ovation and respect he deserved. He was one of my favorite Wrestlers of all time. Rip Bobby Eaton.
Props to Austin sending Eaton good wishes, and that part about him saying he couldn't lace Bobby's boots ... when arguably the biggest star in the history of the business says that, you've done alright.
Jim sure did love Bobby. I go back and forth on his show mostly because I hate his rants on God and Republicans and I don’t really approve of wishing someone a broken neck because he’s more interested in pocket pool than wrestling... but to hear him pour his heart out for his beloved friend.. I just can’t stay mad at him. I recommend everyone listen to his podcast about Bobby. Had me misty eyed and I mean it.
can't believe how emotional i was for 20 full minutes. the alabama jam is undoubtedly the most beautiful leg drop in the business (that i've seen). he was one of the best workers i ever saw and i love knowing that the man outside the ring was as beautiful as the man inside the ring
It was great to see so many people, including his father in law Bill Dundee, there to honor Bobby Eaton. He's struggled with some health issues, diabetes is nothing to laugh at folks, it can really mess you up, but as of right now everyone says Bobby is in good health. To see just how good he was in the ring... watch some of his top rope stuff in slow motion. He would hit a completely safe top rope elbow where he'd even make sure to guard his opponent's face. He was class in the ring.
He had that frankly intimidating expression, could brawl, counter, do technical stuff or go to the outside, strength moves, not to an extreme, but to show his opponent as needed, crafty heel stuff and high spots that were as convincing as a headlock or an armbar. I always wondered, see him do the top rope legdrop a few times but I was really young and though I detected the work was uncertain of nuance. Once I saw him do the top rope leg drop in a match, opponent is mist and forgotten, but perhaps not to Mr Eatons standard, so as he came off the top rope he curled a fist under his knee and I cannot recall if that was usual or an object lesson haha. *small edit* Not a massive collector of anything, but I wrote this looking at my NWA TV title belt. Absolutely loved it when Eaton was TV Champion.
When I was a kid, Bobby was so smooth and good that I didn't even recognize how amazingly talented he was. As I've learned more, that is no longer the case.
Undertaker is my overall favourite for many reasons including teen years being a sub six foot skinny redhaired boy who saw him as a version of me I'd struggle to be but was inspired by. WWF was available in the UK via satellite and friends would do me tapes, I'd see stuff a couple of days later, NWA/WCW was free, about 1.20-2.00AM and three to four weeks behind, discovered those later. First time I saw Hogan wrestle at about 8 years of age I understood the work and the commitment regardless, jobbers were not bad, they were pillars of the business, muscular skillful men obeyed the man with the clipboard, it all made it more to me not less. Early, I loved Ted DiBiase, Curt Henning, Jake Roberts, a mix of skill, strength, wrestling foundation and unlike the absolutely shredded bodybuilders these men were intimidating because they were real, believable, but still more than you'd like to tick off by accident. As I said, I caught on to the delayed showings on late night UK TV and saw Mr Bobby Eaton do his thing. People credit Roberts (another all time favourite of mine) with wising Taker to some aspects of the business, no doubt it's true... But I've never seen a wrestler for timing, heat, intimidation for sheer personality and expression not freakish physical gifts, skill and the ability to look like he'd just done murder whilst his opponent felt like he'd just landed in a feather bed than the Beautiful One, I see what he knew and shared, revealed and concealed in almost every canny, subtle and convincing wrestler who came later and many who were contemporary learned and grew better. All a gift to the workers and fans from Mr Bobby Eaton.
Awesome night had me tearing up at moments wish I had seen this sooner. Sad to hear the news today of his passing. Truly one of the all time greats. RIP
I have a great love for old school wrestling been watching wrestling since I was knee-high Paul Bosch Houston wrestling Mid-South wrestling world class so a lot of territory shows I've always loved wrestling this brought me to tears RIP Mr Bobby Eaton in the great wrestling ring in the sky 🥀
He is a good guy, testimony from Wikipedia : "Eaton is often regarded as one of the nicest people in the wrestling business, even though he wrestled as a heel for a majority of his career. In his 1999 book Have a Nice Day, Mick Foley praised Eaton as being one of the most underrated superstars in the business, and its nicest, commenting that "it was damn near impossible to pay for anything with Bobby around, though I will confess to not trying that hard". His generosity was not limited to picking up tabs, either: Jim Cornette and Sean Waltman have noted that Eaton would regularly travel with an extra suitcase filled with toiletries, socks, and other oft-forgotten items that he would give to anyone who needed them
It's heartbreaking that we lost someone who meant so much to so many people, but there's solace to be taken in the fact that an event like this happened, and he could get a glimpse of the love and appreciation that his fans and friends had for him.
Man just shows the tremendous amount of respect they had for him. He was smooth in the ring great worker well respected this was a great ceremony sad to hear of his passing he will be missed Rest easy beautiful one.
Did anyone else notice that all of the wrestler's that came into the ring everyone of them wiped their feet! Still respectful, they set the standard of Professional wrestling that WWE stars follow today! RIP Beautiful Bobby, I will always remember getting up on Sunday morning to watch Miidnight Express face Rock n roll Express! Amazing memories!!
Legend of Bobby Eaton and will be miss you. But never forget you against by rock n roll history good event. I gonna miss you and your great teammates with Stan Lane.
Having a heel at the end is all Jim Cornette and "ole school rasslin'. As a fan of his podcasts, I see his signature and it was the perfect closer. Rest In Peace, Bobby. You were always special, as any wrestling fan knew watching you in the ring. Glad we got NWA back in the day in California.
This was beautiful....especially after watching that tribute podcast from Jim. A man who lived his life to the fullest and in the process influenced others! What a life, Beautiful Bobby Eaton! RIP
Rest In Peace Bobby. It’s obvious that you left the wrestling business a better place than you found it. Absolutely blessed to have been able to watch you work your magic in the ring.
no offense to sweet stan or dennis condry but to me bobby WAS the midnight express.as cornette himself has said he was a hard worker and a wonderful man
Definitely. Beautiful Bobby was the heart and soul of the Midnight Express. He may not have been a good promo, but with Corny in his corner who cares. One thing that was small, but caused such a strong reaction was how Corny would hug Bobby before the match. It struck at southerners disdain for homosexuality and cowardice. The boos and heat that little interaction caused was huge.
Too many times the wrestling business celebrates the guys that partied and were all around jerks. It’s nice to see a genuinely nice guy like Bobby being honoured.RIP,Bobby🙏
"Look at Beautiful Bobby. Showing off his high flying skills to these rubes. He spends more time in the air than these idiots do on the ground." --Jim Cornette circa 1988 Saturday wrestling program
I was soooooo into the Bobby Eaton/Lord Steven team. LS was trying to civilize BE and it was beyond a great angle. Leg drop off the top is the best finisher of all time.
so so sad to watch this knowing hes no longer here.but cornette was right.the midnight express was one of the greatest tag teams in wrestling history.may bobby rest in peace.
THANK GAWD FOR THIS..WHY DOESNT THE #WWE SE THIS? IF EVERY #WWEHOFER IS SYING THIS THEN WHATS THE HOLD UP!!!! SO GLAD IN MY FATHER TOOK ME TOO A PRO WRESTLING EVENT TO WATCH EVERY NWA STAR AND MIDNIGHT VS ROCKNROLL WAS BEST MATCH OF THE NIGHT
Say what you want to about Cornett but one thing we all know for sure that he loved the shit out of Bobby Eton....rip the greatest tag wrestler of all time.
When Jim said "I love you Bobby Lee, and I always will. Thank you for everything." on his latest podcast I got so choked up. :-(
Same man same hate it for Jim you could just tell how much he meant to him. It’s normally not a Cornette to be that emotional
Same. Made me realize that the reason I hated Corny so much back on the day was because he was so passionate about trying to get me to hate him, and that passion extends to everything in his life.
Just finished listening to his pod cast. Tough one to listen too. Bobby Eaton was truly one of the best.
I cried at work.
I reacted the same way. RIP Beautiful Bobby
Beautiful Bobby Eaton deserves to be recognized as a all time great. Alabama jam was a great finisher. R.I.P. Bobby.
Seeing this for the first time the day after his passing. Sad to lose him but heartwarming to watch this tribute and see his peers honor him like this. RIP Beautiful Bobby.
Bobby was a friend. He was one of the best ever, but an even better human being.
We will miss him.
This is the definition of receiving your flowers before your gone
In a speech in front of dozens of hall of fame wrestlers Steve Keirn proclaimed Bobby Eaton the greatest professional wrestler of all time. The first wrestler to his feet to give that comment a standing ovation, Ric Flair That’s all you need to know on how great Bobby Eaton was

To my understanding, that's why this event was held.
Absolutely
Props to Austin sending Eaton good wishes, and that part about him saying he couldn't lace Bobby's boots ... when arguably the biggest star in the history of the business says that, you've done alright.
Jim truly loved his friend and it’s beautiful.
RIP Bobby, watching videos of him after the news. What a great
💔💔
RIP Bobby.
We loved you.
We miss you.

He made a lot of money off of him
Jim didn’t need him for that. Guy has made more money in last yr selling merchandise than he did in the business
RIP Bobby Eaton. This says it all right here
Of all the deaths in pro wrestling this one really hits hard!!
So glad they got to honor him in life. The industry should do more of this.
can't believe how emotional i was for 20 full minutes. the alabama jam is undoubtedly the most beautiful leg drop in the business (that i've seen). he was one of the best workers i ever saw and i love knowing that the man outside the ring was as beautiful as the man inside the ring

When I was a kid, Bobby was so smooth and good that I didn't even recognize how amazingly talented he was. As I've learned more, that is no longer the case.
RIP Bobby Eaton you were one of the best.. Rest in our Lord Jesus Christ forever..
Many would argue the greatest worker of all-time
No arguing needed .he was
Him and Ray Stevens are the guys to me, so damn smooth in the ring!
Most underappreciated and underrated for sure.
He’s one of the finest people

I think they could've done a Tommy Rich thing , with Bobby Eaton and let him win the belt even for only a few days but let Bobby be the champion.
I know Corny must be taking the loss hard having travelling the roads together for years
I wish you got more time, Bobby
R.I.P
Now that I know Bobby has this special tribute a year ago has made his death a tad more tolerable
