I learned the reason why the original Z actor tried to put all of her emotions in that scream... And I was quite moved... She had a rough time since her own mother died in that same week
Damn that just straight sad
Too bad the dialogue partially covers it, if it was just the scream it would be way better.
Wow! Now it makes sense why I can relate to it. Lost my Mom in 2001. What a way to use that energy to express 💚💫🔥
I don't know, there's just something about Kai. The silence, like the silent rage that lies within Gohan. Just exploding
I like the silence from Kai, but I think the DBZ scream was better.
Fax
Silence lasted too long.
The speech before his power is 10x better
@@darrenrodriguez7005 It really isn't. Gohan is just in a complete state of rage and shock that makes him go Ssj2. The Z dub makes him seem like he's in complete control of his mind (he wouldn't even go Ssj2 if he was), states the obvious and mistakenly makes him talk as if he actually knows 16. All this because they thought people absolutely needed additional dialogue to be invested.
“I won’t watch this anymoreeeeee” is just too good to not give 1st place to. You could really feel the frustration Gohan was feeling.
Nah that part wasn't good, the scream was better in Z though

In kai, Gohan's silence makes you feel the anger and the shock he is feeling
The pure silence before the scream is just perfect. No over explaining, no exposition. Just Gohan processing what happened and snapping.
Z still did it better
@@hokageazeal3605 Sorry but no, Zs biggest problem is telling the audience what is happening instead of just letting the moment happen. We don’t need Gohan to tell us 16 was a nice guy who gave his life dispute being an android we already know that, We don’t need him to tell us that he’s “slipping” we see that, everything Gohan is thinking was literally just explained through 16s speech 5 seconds before this, we don’t need it regurgitated back while interrupting the scene. The manga version didn’t do that, the Japanese version didn’t do that, so why would the English one need it?
@@RandomPersonProbably still gonna say Z is better and u can't change my mind also they changed the voice actors for Z Kai which was the dumbest fucking thing ever
@@hokageazeal3605 Right because making a kid sound like an actual kid who didn’t smoke is such a stupid idea.
@HokageAzeal yeah gotta admit this is a weak take dude. Gohan does sounds like he has more emotion and he does sound like more like a kid in Kai. Plus if you saying Z did it better?, Yeah your right The Japanese OG version and the manga did it the best and the same as kai. Saying nothing from a character who speaks his mind alot is shocking. No sobbing, no asking why, no explanation just pure shock and rage.
The silence is terrifying, but the "And I wont watch this ANYMOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" is too clean
The funimation dub did his voice properly on this version he sounds like he had a shot of estrogen. Kai is shit all round they should have just remastered it and left it with the original dub.

Is nobody gonna mention that TFS's fandub version beats all these versions? TeamFourStar had the best one.
But the problem with Kai you don’t know what’s going on like why he cared so much for 16 all of a sudden but in Z it showed them bonding
Z is better, it's Orginal. Kai is the remix
The silence undeniably makes the scene better, but Android 16s speech to Gohan in the original dub is way better
So is the scream and also the extended transformation in the next episode with Gohan angers nothing comes blows to touching that it’s way better than this transformation
I want the silence from Kai, the scream from Z Dub, and the music from the sub. That would be my perfect SSJ2 moment.

@@asparrow9876 I actually do like theirs a lot, but I don’t like the voice actor quite as much for Gohan, and the comedy kills the tension of the scene (I know that’s the point for their series so that’s a slight against it, but it contributes to my personal taste of it).

Gohan's internal monologue fits so well with his character. He's trying to rationalize what just happened and it leads to his mind reaching into his subconscious and pulling out the rage deep within. Plus the lead up to the scream is glorious

@@brianlaureusagreed the silence is just utter trash. The dialogue he has to himself speaks more volume to the severity of the moment the silence and that baby whale of a cry is just garbage
The silence, with the bird flying layered over Gohan is just perfect. The bird is symbolic of so much. Nature, and by extension, the earth, which Cell has vowed to destroy. I never resonated with the line, “you were just an android” because 16 wasn’t “just an Android.” He cared, and the bird represents him too. The bird also represents freedom, the ability to fly, while common at this stage in the story, is never as graceful, Ki flight is often ridged or jerky, but not the bird, the bird rides the wind, let’s it wash over it. All these thoughts flooding through Gohan’s mind are what enable him to go beyond, beyond even Super Saiyan.
Ok Shakespeare pop off 👏
I agree, as an adult, the silence and visuals say a lot more than what Gohan did in Z. The inner monologue in Z feels very surface level like they need to explain it to an idiot.
I thought it was going to end it with let me get $2
I actually like the line "you were just an android" because... Yeah... He was. It makes the fact that he cared about life all the more impactful. Gohan wasn't just saying "he's an android" but "he had no reason to care because he's an android, but he persevered and did anyway."

I like the silent treatment. It's more emotional, for some reason. It's like if you got pushed to the edge and just speechless.
I grew up with Z, I hold strong to it. The mental monologue, especially the last few words “and I won’t watch this anymore!!!” Really put his acceptance of the rage he hated inside him winning for the sake of not allowing others to be hurt or killed. Before his ego kicks in, Gohan’s transformation really felt like a sacrifice.
yea cause it was cool seeing Gohan go from being protected and damn near nurtured the damn series to finally bossing up and fighting for one of his homies other than this he had piccolo and Icarus the dragon
But gotta say the 'silent treatment' was a notch better imo .. Gohan been battling his monster throughout the saga .. I like how he's just lost for words and can't reason with himself anymore and just silently raged and lost himself.
I think Gohan staying silent makes a lot more sense and holds more weight.
@@abyssalidiocy you guys realize it was a monologue meaning its silent in both and i like z better in every case because the dialogue gave weight to his emtions and gave much needed insight into his mental state also its imo more realistic because thats how ppl actually think no one is silent in their own head when get pissed lets get real here also the thoughts he had about 16 made sense as his reason to go all out as they are both simple and pure in how they see the world and gohan only realised he needed to let go when someone similsr to him was treated like trash along with all of the animals and his friends now wasnt the time to be pacifistic there wano option for peace with cell the silence in kai is just another dumbing down

In Kai his silence is the boiling anger after watching not only his closest friends fight for their lives, but watching the only person he can’t revive get crushed because he did nothing. Android 16’s speech was great in the TFS DUB and fits his silence well.
Sometimes less is more. The silence before the storm as the rage gets to its highest point and finally explodes into the SSJ2 form is just very well performed
while in some cases this is true but I feel like we need Gohan commentary when 16 basically sacrificed himself for them
@@nezukokamado46 I think it adds nothing to the scene. Since everything he said was shown right before and after. He's explaining what 16 said again. And we saw gohan slip into his rage seconds after. I don't think we need dialog for someone who is supposed to lose his mind in this moment. He's way to calm explaining this lol
@@bluenitethewarrior9332 it adds emotion which is most time better than silence and while the other characters couldn't hear it, it's Gohan reflecting on his life and how dumb he was for holding back and not fighting immediately but I understand of you like Kai more but for this scene specifically I just love how it shows him actually beating himself up for letting 16 die when 16 never hurt anyone himself
@@bluenitethewarrior9332 also he was calm because as he said he felt something slipping aka his anger
@Nezuko Kamado I can kinda see that. I just feel like we already saw what he said already in the scene before and after. Plus we just saw him watch his friends almost beaten to death and one of them did died. So him being calm in the middle of this doesn't make sense lol. He was already angry he just got pushed over the edge with the 1 death. So in that regard I don't think we need words from him anymore he's heard and seen enough.
The one time I'm for Kai. The silence was incredible. Just the stunned unknown feeling. I think we've all been there. A loved dies or something terrible happens. You just stop, you aren't thinking anything, then it all comes flooding in and you break, tears, rage, fear whatever.

Z when he says I WONT WATCH THIS ANYMORE is just so fire
Kai. Less is more in this case. The stunned silence, the snapping and the scream is all they really needed without having to overexplain 16's gentleness.
But.. 16, he loved life.. he gave up everything to save it, and he was just an android.. Gohan let him die, he can't do that. He won't watch anymore, not to mention he feels it slipping, and he won't watch that anymore!
I love Gohan's internal dialogue. He's the overthinker of the team and I like how his thoughts lead him right into his rage. There was no way he could wrap his head around no longer fighting. His attempt to rationalize what just happened in front of him and his lack of ability to stop it, him regretting his lack of action. Wonderful addition.
That actually makes Kai's better imo
There wasn't a single thought. Gohan was taking in what just happened and what he failed to prevent because he wasn't strong enough. His mind went blank due to the realization of what he just allowed to happen.
And when he finally rationalizes what has happened, the only thought he has on his mind is not just killing Cell, but for Gohan, a pacifist, to make Cell suffer for everything he did, which really shows how Gohan snapped mentally. Z portrays Gohan standing up to be the hero, but then shows him aiming to torture Cell later, which makes no sense. He stands up to become the hero once Cell returns, but shouldn't be portrayed as the hero when he's beating the breaks of Cell because he's not acting like a hero type, or even himself. He wanted bloodshed until Cell killed Goku, and Gohan realized that for the second time in that fight alone, he let everyone down and cost both 16 and his own father their lives

Woulda been better if Kai version had the same exact scream as the Z version
The silence and the scream of UTTER DESPAIR AND DESPERATION that Son Gohan couldn't hold back from in Z Kai....add the song Day of Destiny in and they're both PERFECT. Those won me over.
The whole thing, as far as I can tell, is that Gohan is stunned and when he actually starts to think again, he bursts out in rage. Using silence is far more subtle than having an inner monologue that just makes me want to say "shut up".
It’s kinda like what they did with Bardock’s vision of Goku on Namek (not as bad though). Goku doesn’t show his face? Have him spell out the meaning of the vision which also happened that have nothing to do with what the vision was telling with Goku telling Bardock it wasn’t too late to not become like Frieza when:
1- Bardock was never like Frieza
2- It IS too late, that’s the whole point.
wtf lol bardock was just as bad as frieza, only difference between the two of them is that bardock didn't control an entire army. They both killed countless innocent people and they both sold planets. Even in DBS, bardocks main reason for saving goku is because he's tired of killing so many people which arguably makes him possibly even worse than dbz bardock. Also it really wasn't too late. Bardock ignored every single sign and charged to his demise on his own wit. He could've easily just left and be picked up by frieza later like vegeta, nappa, and raditz. He fought for the right to kill and his last desire was for goku to just murder frieza, hence why he smiled. Bardock screwed himself over
@@superboygamer9095 Ah yes. Just as bad as Frieza. The guy who had friends and was devastated by their death was definitely as bad as the guy who killed gladly any henchman that would question his orders and blew up a planet while laughing like a maniac.
Bardock was bad but only as bad as a regular Saiyan.
I think Kai probably did the best imo. Gohan was completely silent until he just snapped and let it all go. You can tell he was going through some shit mentally during that transformation.
As a kid I definitely wouldn't have I grew up with Z so I prefer the Z version I look at this scene like this if we had no context and just saw this scene I'd want the Z version everytime but that's just me
The remastered one was what I remembered from my childhood
Too young, Kai's version suuuucks
Silence and facial expression can speak volumes more than simply explaining your emotions.
its kai, that silence is bone-chilling
Silence can be far more powerful than words if used in the right time and place, this is one of them. Another is when you talk to someone and you say some deep shit to make them think, that’s when a long pause is well placed as well.
No mate the bruce faulconer edit hits x10 times harder than this rubbish.
Kai, they new that the moment needed to be a show not tell moment.
(Edit: My opinion has changed, I love both, but the scream in Z is just so perfect, and I've even grown to love the monologue in it, but again, I love both, they're both great in their own ways)
Naw they could only do that because z had the perfect words already honestly the silence into a scream is kind of awkward...also the moment right behind the cut off is way more epic than kai's
@@qualiswilliams7403 Hard disagree, Z acted as if the audience was too stupid to understand what Gohan was feeling so it shoe horned in a monologue. When you hit an emotional snap in real life you're too overwhelmed by emotions to be giving a speech.
@@Substantial-hf1rm naw you can only say that because of z by the time kai came out everyone knew about z but when it was happening in that time the dialogue was priceless....it's easy to say the past wasn't as good when you're watching a remake of but the past is still outdoing both versions of kai especially that Nick bs
@@qualiswilliams7403 stop dick riding z, it's better with the silence and Colleen is just a better Gohan. Sorry for not wanting kid Gohan to sound like a chain smoker and sorry for not giving a fuck
@@qualiswilliams7403 absolutely not, if you show this scene to a person who has not seen DBZ ever, they will be able to ascertain what is going on, assuming that person has some semblance of common sense and intelligence
Nothing is better then the version with Bruce falconer background music
The z dub should include the faulconer score as that set the tone for many scenes.
The silence is just perfect
The original subsub is in silent.
silent then rage. Also mention there is a song when the bird was shown before the rage scream
I like the internal monologue because it represents the one train of thought that Gohan is focusing on over all of the other incoherent noises in his head. It also conveys Gohan's emotions at that moment, going from sadness to grief to determination to fury until Gohan finally breaks with a sudden scream that echos across the battlefield
The OG Z Japanese is the best out of all by FAR, that scream is pure perfection, and the music too.
Ehem!
Latam.
Word i like Z better why is everyone talking about this silence nonsense
@@josephjoestarrequiem-bub1340 Well as far as I know, originally he didn't have internal dialogue with himself, like the Japanese version and the manga. While I get they added the dialogue to fill in the silence, that deafening silence is sorta like a bomb, you don't usually hear the ticking or the sound of the inside ready to blow. It's quiet until the explosion happens, that's what happens to Gohan. I grew up on Kai so I have a bias, but it just fits more imo.
And there’s always that one guy that tries to bring it up
@@charmingangel9695 i get you i get you i think I honestly grew up on a mixed of versions lol im playing botw btw and i just watched everything so far read everything so far researched a lot idk and know the culture well i guess idk😂
I-I feel it slipping💀💀💀
If he didn't add that it'll be the best speech to ever exist
Kai stays more true to the Japanese version, it has gohan just in cold silence and then he just snaps, imo it feels so much more badass without the commentary
Silence speaks 1000 words, Gohan's silence just shows disbelief, before pure rage.
Can someone explain to me why both versions don't use this awesome ssj 2 Gohan soundtrack?
Cause both suck
license issues
@@hirotoub ah thanks!
I honestly like both, I just fucking wish both had the original Japanese song that played during the transformation, that shit goes hard
DBZ is an old school style anime. With characters that occasionally talk way too fucking fast to fit the dialogue that is way too long for the scene they are in. (I'm talking about dubs by the way.) Z was an anime that felt the need to explain everything the characters were feeling, rather than just letting us see it.
Kai on the other hand, tries to focus on storytelling. Rather than making the characters pacing be all stupid, they try to make it both nice to listen to, and accurate to the manga. While here, the scene does admittedly feel very empty, it does show how Gohan is speechless how someone can be so heartless as to kill someone as pure as 16. Which makes his basically unlimited self-control finally boil over and explode.
I do love me a good scream, i mean Sean, Goku's VA is one of my favorite of all time, the storytelling of Kai is FAR better than Z in my humble opinion. So my point goes to Kai.
I like the silence better but I like the “ I WONT WATCH THIS ANYMOREE” as it fades into the scream
