Leslie Waller was diagnosed with cancer in her liver. She needed a liver transplant and came to UVA for care. Shawn Pelletier, MD, performed the surgery, transplanting a liver from a living donor.

I was a universal acceptor as well. I had three liver options within 12 hours of being put on the list. So thankful to be alive. I’m glad I came across this video. I still have issues dealing with the knowledge that someone died, and I am living because of that.

A friend of mine just had a liver transplant one year ago she was diagnosed with liver cancer and they were able to get all the cancer out of her. But the chances of it coming back was almost 100%. So she had to go on the list. She had to wait six months before they even put her active on the list so January 1 she became active. By the grace of God and unfortunately someone else losing their life she had a new liver by January 12. So far she is doing wonderfully.

Are you ok with that after 10 years? Does it make any problem with normal life ? I should have the surgery but I'm absolutely scared of the isolated life after liver transplant

There should be a way to prevent cancer when they know you already have a dying liver.
