- Here is all my food that I have either prepared or bought for the PCT. Most of it is vegan with the exception of RX bars and the Good to Go Thai Curry. In the video I go through all of my food so hopefully it will give you a better idea of what I will eat/what vegans can eat while backpacking.
My parents will be mailing me all of my resupply boxes along the trail and I'll also be supplementing them with things that I occasionally buy in towns.

Yeah Vivian! This is so cool and incredible. It’s obvious how much work you’ve put into this
Thank you thank you thank you Lena!!! Excited for our boba tea date ;)
you ate SO good on trail. need more vegan representation like this ❤️❤️
Thanks for showing all of the different choices that are out there. I really appreciate it.
these are the best trail meals i've ever seen!
Thank you Talon! :) Happy trails
I love videos like this one and it inspires me to go on trails like the pct the at and cdt trails which I hope I will be able to complete
How did all of these taste or work out? Anything you REALLY loved? Anything you WOULD NOT do again?
Hi Fran, yes! I made a video on how I ate as a vegan on the PCT that you should be able to watch :) I loved the good to go meals even though they were expensive. I also wish I ate more vegetables later on in the trail. My diet went downhill pretty fast and you can see the inflammation in my face from eating so many sweets. That being said, bagels were really hitting the spot at the end of the trail. I also wished I packed more bags of spices that I could have added to meals to make them tastier.
Love all your healthy info. Though I'm not vegan or vegetarian I love all the info on the healthier choices. Most food information for backpacking is not good for us. And effects recovery. I'm a bit above middle age so if I do do any long distance I know I'll need healthier choices.
Hopefully you will like everything you brought. I packed everything everyone said I would crave (Snickers, peanut M&Ms, Greenbellies, ProBars, ect. ect.). I never ate on the PCT because I couldn't stand any of the food I brought. Your cravings can vastly change. The whole time the only thing I ever wanted was dried pineapple (I never normally want that).
Kevin L Ooh dried pineapple so interesting!!! I know, I think I definitely over prepared all my food so hopefully I don’t hate myself for buying so much of it beforehand. I tried to get a decent variety though so hopefully I’ll find some of it edible!
One box of Cap'n Crunch with one-half gallon ice cold almond milk. Totally vegan.
Very good video. A lot of good tips for other vegans. Good Luck, Rick
Wow, how much does all this cost?
Omg, that freeze dried avocado... gotta get me some of that! Great spread here!
Bear Burrito Buffet It’s actually pretty good! I freeze dried it myself but I’m sure you could find it online somewhere
how do you pack this all???
Exactly what I needed to see ❤️
Great job! Ignore the nay-sayers! It's wonderful to have a female, healthy vegan backpacker!! It's a niche "market" that defiantly has room for more quality you tubers. I'm looking forward to more follow up videos on how the food is working out for you. My only word of caution- is don't post your exact future hiking dates and locations, especially if your hiking alone. For safety reasons, I would stick to generalities. Keep up the great videos!
She's not vegan though, she has rX bars which have egg whites in them
Where do you buy the pre made vegan packets of meals?
SO AWESOME.... THANK YOU!! Me & my hubby are Plant-Based & #friendsnotfood 😍 too! Love your vegan- but HEALTHY meal prep here!! We're thinking of doing a trail (AT to start) in next few years & this helps SO much! Watching AT hikers & all the town food they're eating seems very un-vegan friendly, haha!!
Just watched your Oregon Trail video, beautiful!!! I'll start your PCT ones ♡
Just awesome, thanks again!!!
Happy trails ♡
LiveLife Abundantly That’s so exciting!! I can’t wait to follow your journey too :) let me know if you ever have any questions about food or anything
❤️👍
Freeze dried ? What’s this ?
Loved this video! You’re so bubbly
How did you freeze dry your fruits?
I have a friend who has a industrial freeze drier, so I got lucky! But I also have a dehydrator which I used for apples and then I bought a lot of dehydrated fruit as well and bought some freeze dried fruit in bulk from North Bay Trading Company.
Great video🤗
How are you freeze drying at home???
My friend has an industrial freeze drier that I used
I do challenge you to give info of your food choices you can find in a regular grocery store.
Gayle Walker For sure! Maybe I’ll film a resupply video soon.
Love the " shit ton of bars".
Haha oh man... since my hike I haven't really been able to stomach another bar
Hey Vivian, I am also a vegan who will be hiking the PCT in 2023. What did this all look like on your wallet if you don't mind me asking? I am wanting to eat on a budget stay vegan and stay healthy.
Sorry this is vegetarian and not vegan. Change your title.
Your vegetarian or plant based if you buy and eat animals. Vegan is an ideology not a diet.

I'm Keto and not the vegan type. That's because I'm a type 2 diabetic and control my sugar with fat and low carb, no more diabetic medications. I hike/backpack because it's an important part of my life. I have however met people that can be keto and vegan. I have also found that people that are vegan, keto and paleo have one thing in common. We don't like processed food, gmo'd food. I dehydrate my own food as well but freeze dry. How do you do it? Have a safe hike.
Hey Felipe! Sorry for the super super late reply. My friend has an industrial freeze drier so I was/am super lucky to have that connection because they can be pretty expensive. But a great investment if you backpack a lot and eat a lot of freeze dried food.
Please take “vegan” out of the title. Eggs and fish sauce are animal products and are not vegan 🥺 Making an “exception” for a “small amount” is not vegan. Seems like you’re doing your best to limit cruelty to animals, which is awesome, but the “exceptions” disqualify this video as being vegan.
She stated this in her opening dialogue. I have watched countless videos on vegan backpacking foods and this girl did an exceptional job. She even selected a lot of nutritionally dense and healthy vegan meals - a lot of people don’t show this. While I’ll agree with you that a couple of her things aren’t obviously vegan, it’s people like you with absolutely no flexibility that gives us vegans a bad name. If YOU don’t agree with it, don’t buy the product mentioned. This is still a great vegan video full of items.
@@wednesdaysbliss1 If she added the word “mostly” before “vegan” then it would be correct. I felt like I had a neutral tone in my comment and made an objective statement. I didn’t want the vlogger to feel her efforts to lessen cruelty to animals is under appreciated. I applaud anyone who tries to eat less meat or consume less leather/wool.
You, on the other hand, were rude and referred to me as “people like you”. Thanks a lot.
@@RTaranto118 lol. I hate to break it to you, but your original comment didn’t sound very sincere or forgiving. You’re welcome.
Thank you for saying this
I'm curious why you are not able to use bars that are vegan when there is such a plethora to choose from? Also, the dried meal you mentioned that has fish in it, this means you are an ovo-pescaterian. Veganism is an ethical stance, it is much more than a diet. I applaud you for eating mostly plant-based, but it is not accurate to call yourself vegan.
Hi Ivars thanks for your comment. I totally understand where you're coming from. I used to be a strict vegan like you are now and actually gave a TEDx talk on the ethical, health, and environmental benefits of a vegan diet which you can watch if you want! Recently my diet has evolved slightly especially after traveling to Thailand where eggs and fish sauce were a big part of the culture. As I was staying with host families (my only source of food) I ate what they gave me (mostly vegan with the exception of eggs and fish sauce) as it would have been rude to object. The eggs I ate there were all from chickens who had ample room to graze and so I believe it was ethical. I can't vouch for how ethical the egg whites in RX bars are but I found that I feel great when I eat them and cost wise they are a great bar. I can't explain the fish sauce curry other than the fact that I love the brand Good To-Go and that specific meal had been laying around my house for a year (my parents bought it) and I did not want it go to waste. I will not be buying more non vegan meals. I feel that I am vegan but understand that the food I showed in this video is not strictly vegan.
Ivars, please get off your soapbox. Your type of comments are of the reason vegans get so much hassle from non-vegans. Your words sound pompous, elitist, and just plain rude. Leave this darling girl alone.
Ew. Don't listen to this kind of talk. It's just negative. You gave me a lot of inspiration and way of vegan thru-hiking meals that actually are fulfilling and calories / nutrient-dense. there is a reason you have done what you've done, and it is of nobody's concern. I think what you're doing is awesome and I'm glad I found your channel m
I say I’m vegan because it’s the best way to describe my diet so that it’s easy for people to understand what I don’t want to eat. To gate keep the use of the word just creates a barrier between vegans and non vegans. There is a long list of foods that strict vegans eat that are still not ethical and there’s a huge list that strict vegans don’t abstain from that are still not ethical (such as owning a carnivorous pet). You didn’t invent the term vegan and the ethics around it so I don’t think it’s your place to say whether she says she’s vegan or not. I eat honey which is not classed as a vegan produce but to sit there and explain I don’t eat meat, dairy and eggs but I do eat honey when it’s already hard to get people to understand the diet anyway is too much for me and for a lot of other people.
