Cue David Bowie's "Changes"
A short compilation of moments from my 2019 PCT hike demonstrating the ability for moods/emotions/situations/etc. to change in the matter of moments.
Life, much like the trail, is a series of highs and lows, climbs and descents, and good and bad moments. While we often strive for consistency and stability in our lives, much like a heartbeat, if we are still for too long our lives cease to exist. Thus, the peaks and valleys that exist in life are necessary for the continuation of living. I hope this video gives you a little hope that although times may be hard right now, this will not last forever and there is joy is never too far away.
I hope you all are doing well and staying healthy in ...

How I Ate as a Vegan on the PCT
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.4 года назад
This video goes over how my food choices changed over the course of the 6 months it took me to hike the PCT. Food Prep Video Pre PCT: PCT 2019 FOOD PREP (VEGAN) ruclips.net/video/bWa48dhuUwI/видео.html
My Final Day
Просмотров 2 тыс.4 года назад
I went on my first backpacking trip when I was in middle school. At first the trail under my feet was just a means to get me to my destination. I used trails as a fun past time and also as a way to escape from civilization. As time passed the trail transformed me and became my path to happiness. Two years after my first backpacking trip, I stepped onto the PCT for the first time and while on it...
Finishing California
Просмотров 3914 года назад
In this video I’m finishing up my last 100 miles of California and getting very close to the end. It’s a lot of me talking about how I’m feeling and as you’ll see it’s a rollercoaster of emotions!
Sierra City to Old Station
Просмотров 6004 года назад
After spending the night in LA with my brother I got dropped off at the LA airport, flew to Reno, and then made my way back to Sierra City. From there I hiked North back to Old Station and then got picked up by a new friend who let me stay at her house for a night before driving me back to Etna to finish up California.

Kearsarge Pass to Kennedy Meadows South! It was GORGEOUS as always (props to anyone who counts the amount of times I say amazing or beautiful in this video)
A 40 Mile Day through the Sierras
Просмотров 7544 года назад
This was a rough one. I ran out of food, I thought I had Giardia, I hiked a 32 mile day followed by a 40 mile day followed by a 30 mile day in the peak of the Sierras, I hit my breaking point and then recovered with two rest days in independence and Bishop
Leaving Sonora Pass and Heading to Mammoth
Просмотров 6234 года назад
We ended up hanging out in Kennedy Meadows for two hours (longer than we had planned) so I didn’t end up getting to camp until the sun was setting. We had a couple of really long and hard days but we made it to Tuolumne Meadows, got more food there, and made it to Mammoth two day’s later. The Sierras were blowing my mind with their unparalleled beauty.
Tahoe to Kennedy Meadows North

I finished the trail two days ago but my phone hasn’t let me upload any videos so now that I’m home I’ll be uploading the rest of the videos from my trip! Here’s the footage from Tahoe to KM North. We took two zeros in Tahoe and then kept on walking. The views were STUNNING!
Flip Flop Back to California!

I flipped back to Sierra City to meet up with Crunchmaster and Smiles and we’re hiking south. They’re going to Kearsarge Pass and I’ll be going back to Kennedy Meadows South
Goat Rocks to Snoqualmie

This is the footage between white pass and Snoqualmie Pass. I took 3 zeros at home home in seattle and when I went to hop back on trail I had an unbearable pain in my leg which caused me to turn around and spend more time at home. I took 3 more days off and then got back on trail at Stevens pass (I had already booked a cabin for when I was supposed to be there for my birthday.)

The Day Before the PCT Q&A with my Mom
Hi Vivian. As a vegan, I look carefully at ingredient lists, and most restaurant pancake mixes have dairy in them. That is why I strictly avoid restaurant pancakes. Same with waffle mixes. Fortunately it's a lot easier to find vegan pizzas, since if they do not have vegan cheese alternatives, just ask for a pizza without the cheese, and it still has everything else! Anyways, I realize this is a three year old video, and hope you've found some cool vegan innovations that work on the trails!
no regrets
these are the best trail meals i've ever seen!
Thank you Talon! :) Happy trails
Hey Vivian, I am also a vegan who will be hiking the PCT in 2023. What did this all look like on your wallet if you don't mind me asking? I am wanting to eat on a budget stay vegan and stay healthy.
Exactly what I needed to see ❤️
❤️👍
Sorry this is vegetarian and not vegan. Change your title.
Wow, how much does all this cost?
Damn. I’m a San Diego native and just barely getting motivated to do this! Thanks!
I’ve been watching all of your videos since I get on the pct soon 😭 Miss you and these videos make me smile 💖 Omg I need the video of me downing the mashed potatoes lol….
Hahahah I'll send it to you! My gosh that is so exciting. Are you doing the whole thing again? You'll have to come say hi in stehekin
@@vivianvoth9716 yep! Hiking the entire thing again! I will definitely visit you in Stehekin! One of the best stops 🥺❤️🔥 You’re living in such a beautiful place 😭
Where do you buy the pre made vegan packets of meals?
How did all of these taste or work out? Anything you REALLY loved? Anything you WOULD NOT do again?
Hi Fran, yes! I made a video on how I ate as a vegan on the PCT that you should be able to watch :) I loved the good to go meals even though they were expensive. I also wish I ate more vegetables later on in the trail. My diet went downhill pretty fast and you can see the inflammation in my face from eating so many sweets. That being said, bagels were really hitting the spot at the end of the trail. I also wished I packed more bags of spices that I could have added to meals to make them tastier.

Loved this video! You’re so bubbly
WTF!!! Zero vegans would put an egg white in their body, zero. This is trash.
Please take “vegan” out of the title. Eggs and fish sauce are animal products and are not vegan 🥺 Making an “exception” for a “small amount” is not vegan. Seems like you’re doing your best to limit cruelty to animals, which is awesome, but the “exceptions” disqualify this video as being vegan.
She stated this in her opening dialogue. I have watched countless videos on vegan backpacking foods and this girl did an exceptional job. She even selected a lot of nutritionally dense and healthy vegan meals - a lot of people don’t show this. While I’ll agree with you that a couple of her things aren’t obviously vegan, it’s people like you with absolutely no flexibility that gives us vegans a bad name. If YOU don’t agree with it, don’t buy the product mentioned. This is still a great vegan video full of items.
@@wednesdaysbliss1 If she added the word “mostly” before “vegan” then it would be correct. I felt like I had a neutral tone in my comment and made an objective statement. I didn’t want the vlogger to feel her efforts to lessen cruelty to animals is under appreciated. I applaud anyone who tries to eat less meat or consume less leather/wool. You, on the other hand, were rude and referred to me as “people like you”. Thanks a lot.
@@RTaranto118 lol. I hate to break it to you, but your original comment didn’t sound very sincere or forgiving. You’re welcome.
Thank you for saying this
Thanks for showing all of the different choices that are out there. I really appreciate it.
So enjoyed following your journey. I’ve watched so many but definitely one of my favorites! Awesome filming. Love your love of the trail and your joy n your journey. Only one I shed tears at watching the finale. Thanks for sharing !
Oh my goodness thank you so much for your kind words Tammy! :) I'm so glad you enjoyed watching. Much love to you
Been following your thru hike. I just discovered these thru hike videos in the last yr which had been a wonderful thing during Covid to take this trek virtually with many thru bikers. I have been enjoying yours very much but this episode was amazing for how you filmed the scenery and your hiking through it! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Tammy! I'm so glad you've been enjoying the videos :) It's been a treat for me to rewatch all of my videos during covid too <3 I hope you're healthy and well!
Great questions, Mom! Vivian you're blessed to have such a supportive mother-and one who lends you her Arcteryx, wow! We're enjoying these videos now, in 2021, as we read the new book, Journeys North by Barney Scout Mann. We're a hiking family too!
That's so awesome to hear! Hiking families are the best kind :)
What kind camera are you using??
Just my iPhone :)
@@vivianvoth9716 thanks, that's awesome hike!!
So pretty!!
Your vegetarian or plant based if you buy and eat animals. Vegan is an ideology not a diet.
Beautiful video
Thanks so much!
Omg I know why you look so familiar! I'm pretty sure I saw you at Spencer Spit state park on Lopez! If any of that sounds familiar I was one of the Park staff there that pointed you towards Frost island. I'm revisiting your channel because I'm hiking the AT next year and obsessing over all thru hike videos atm, haha.
Oh my gosh yes, I totally remember you!! What a small world. Have such an awesome adventure, I can't wait to follow along on your journey! (and thanks for pointing me to where I could park my bike) :)
@@vivianvoth9716 awww thank you for the kind words!! It'll be my longest thru hike yet so I'm both excited and nervous. I wish I had more time to say hello when I saw ya, but if you ever need a lopez connection hmu! :-)
I love videos like this one and it inspires me to go on trails like the pct the at and cdt trails which I hope I will be able to complete
I just found you yesterday and I’m so glad I did! My hubby and I have been researching for a PCT hike and your videos make me want to go NOW! Even this quick little vid was so well done and informative! Thanks honey! I just subscribed so I’ll be watching you all day today! Happy trails! 🤙🧘🏻♀️
Thank you so much Renee! I hope you and your hubby get to hike the trail soon. :) It truly was and may always be the greatest adventure of my life and I hope you'll get to experience all the glory and educational hardship it has to offer <3
I just found and subbed. I look forward to supporting your channel...
Thanks so much!
How did you freeze dry your fruits?
I have a friend who has a industrial freeze drier, so I got lucky! But I also have a dehydrator which I used for apples and then I bought a lot of dehydrated fruit as well and bought some freeze dried fruit in bulk from North Bay Trading Company.
you ate SO good on trail. need more vegan representation like this ❤️❤️
how do you pack this all???
Freeze dried ? What’s this ?
This is a beautiful snapshot of the thru-hiking life: emotions that roll like the hills we climb and descend. Love your storytelling ❤
Thank you so much! :) I had a good laugh putting this together
Love the " shit ton of bars".
Haha oh man... since my hike I haven't really been able to stomach another bar
This made me so happy. Glad I crossed paths with you along the way!
:) I'm SO glad our paths crossed too! Miss you a whole lot
😎👣
Thanks for all your videos Vivian. Loved the PCT .
Thanks for watching!
How many days between replenishments?
Usually around 3-6
Welcome to Bham!
Thank you! :)
Nice to see you again!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was wondering what clothes to pack on the trail? :-)
Ooh yes I can definitely make a video on clothing! Are you hiking the trail in 2020?
No, but I am interested just in general what you packed for a long term backpacking trip like this one! (To maybe use as a reference for trips in the future!)
@@danielledavis3140 Absolutely! I'll try to post a video about that in the next couple weeks :)
Yay!! Thank you so much!!
It is good to see you again. As a backpacker in the 1960s, we just built little cooking fires to heat our meals. The only weight was our strike anywhere matches and our mess kits. I hope that the school change goes well. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year. Good Luck, Rick
Fortunately or unfortunately you can’t do that much anymore with all the wildfire hazards. But that does sound rewarding to have fire cooked meals nightly. Thank you!
@@vivianvoth9716 It was many years ago.
It's happening right now the thing with my backpack. Someone told me 1 month ago they will make a custom backpack and now i'm looking desperately for a backpack. So shitțý 🤦🏻♂️

You look and sound so full of joy and when I hear you talk about your superfood meals, seeds and such, I start imagining about the ancestor’s travels, as a leap of fate, that got you here today. Profound thoughts like a kid in a candy store.

Bravo! You did it! It’s been a joy and so inspiring to watch your journey! Congrats!
