      Poor wee dog, dealing with a prolapse. His owners need to take him to a vet, really. He could be itching as little dogs like him are often sensitive to beef and bovine products. Remove all of those, add a little Weetbix to the diet and things might improve. Here’s hoping. What a darling little dog. I really appreciate how gentle you are with them. You are firm & kind, they know they are safe with you, it’s lovely to watch.😊

    I learned a valuable tip from an experienced nurse years ago. She would put Vicks under her nose under her mask if she was needing to treat someone with noxious odors from wounds, etc. I tried it when having to do care later, and it really worked for me.

    As a nurse, I was told by older nurses that if you smile it quelches the gag reflex. Looks ridiculous to see a room full of medical professionals smiling like fools but it works. There are so many muscles in the face and you use most of them smiling. One friend used to put vaseline on her teeth to sustain a smile longer. U worked on a GI unit so odors were a daily challenge. When masked we would put various scented things under our noses like menthol, peppermint, alcohol, lemon/citrus, etc. Whatever was super strong without knocking you out or causing a migraine! You are a wonder doggie nurse/groomer!

      I agree and the vaccinations should be up to date especially at his age of 14. They have let this little dog suffer for whatever reason and that's not okay. Ask for help if you need it to stop his suffering. Do a go fund me for him to get his back end fixed.

    • @rainforme1850
      @rainforme1850 8 месяцев назад

      I was wondering that too, and it could be a really huge problem. Not that I know anything about that special issue at the corn being on the outside but that’s definitely not right I wonder if the poor dog was suffering? The whole thing just reeks of a owner who might not be able to afford that care. I understand the reasoning behind not wanting the Pavo shot because the dog is 14 but you do not want to see the want to see the suffering Pavo causes

    Our 90 pound German Shepherd had skin issues and would scratch herself constantly. We tried that shampoo and it worked wonders for her! Even our Vet was impressed. After the 2nd or 3rd bath with it she started begging for a bath. She realized it made her feel better. I've had dogs that don't mind a bath but never one who would lead me to the bath, jump in and whine until I gave it a bath. She didn't do this before we tried that shampoo. We couldn't use it as much as she wanted but the Vet said every 2 weeks was OK.

    I had a cat with a prolapse rectum, she was a 12 yr old Persian. My vet did a minimally invasive tack on the prolaps. Meaning g he pushed the prolaps back in and used a couple of stitches to keep it in place. The stitches were internal much like doctors do for women getting a hysterectomy through the navel. Tiny incision great results.

    I had a dog with the same problem. We had him for 16 years. I saved him from someone who was abusing him. He was an adult at that time, not sure how old he was then. Vet said he may very well not make it through having it fixed because of his age. He suggested putting him down. Since he wasn't in a lot of pain at the time I chose not to put him down. He was doing ok for about 3 months then he seemed to be suffering. We took him to the vet and had him put down. Trust me when I say I did everything to make those last days his best. Thank you for helping these dogs. You are the best.

    I really hope the owner gets immediate medical attention for his prolapse. It was not mentioned how long he’s had it, but left untreated it can dry out, have to be amputated and the poor little guy could even die if he’s not treated soon ! Rectal prolapses can also be easily treated manually under a light anesthetic or sedation IF it’s a fairly new prolapse ! I pray the owner is knowledgeable enough and responsible enough to get him the help he needs IMMEDIATELY ! I’m actually doubting how seriously she’s taking this, since she’s already been turned down so many times RE grooming. If she truly loves this precious furbaby she’ll get him to the doc as fast as she possibly can !! I’m really worried about him ❣️♥️🐶🙏
    It’s a shame too the owner is more worried about his type of hair cut than his potentially life threatening medical condition ! She doesn’t deserve this darling furry little soul !

    Any dog of any age can catch and transmit Parvo. Keeping all the other dogs that come into the vet's office safe is smart. To just brush off the prolapse because of a vaccination is pretty irresponsible. Not only that as a groomer your client's animals should all be vaccinated or they shouldn't even enter your shop without shot records.

    Amazing job of grooming, what a gorgeous little old man! That little wiggle-worm was not about to be still for 5 seconds! LOL.
    Long story, buckle up!! I remember when I was young, there were no 'groomers' in the town/area we lived in. We had a dog who looked exactly like this little old man you are trimming...if you added about 20lbs. Anyway, mom did quite well as the groomer and in the summer she would shave her completely and just let it slowly grow back over the summer.
    One year, she had just finished her head and moved on to her neck and shoulders. About 5 minutes later, I noticed a pool of blood in the floor, which was beginning to get smeared around. We started looking around on the dog and finally found where mom had accidently cut a chunk of her ear off! She never yelped or jerked or anything, she just sat there so still (she was such a good girl!). We never let mom forget that incident.
    Funniest thing is that mom also trimmed the hair of several of the young guys that went to our church (we were one of the few families that had a pair of electric trimmers, yes the same ones we used on the dog, they were always sterilized between 'clients'). It was a free service she provided to some that did not have the money to go to a barber.
    A short while after cutting the dogs ear, she trimmed a young man's hair. While trimming in the back, the 'guard' on the trimmer fell off, just as mom swished down and it cut all the way down to his scalp. We did very well holding in the laughter as she tried to cover it with other hair, to no avail, there was a very noticeable hole in his hair. We also tried to convince him to get his head shaved or cut shorter, nope, he liked his naturally long, loose curls (to his credit, they were pretty). We did not tell him about it and when he left, we immediately began rolling on the floor with laughter.
    I don't think he ever saw it and apparently nobody told him. We would see him at church for several weeks afterwards and as soon as he would turn around there was this very noticeable, gaping white scalp blaring through his very dark brown hair. The 'hole' was about the size of a soup spoon, maybe a bit smaller. He kept coming back for haircuts, but we lost several other 'clients', apparently figuring out that mom is the one that accidently messed his hair up. 😁

    To be fair, a lot of groomers cannot take a pet that has a medical condition because the owner will try to sue or there isn't a veterinarian on staff and the dog has to be transported somewhere else. I'm not even allowed to take dogs on sedatives that aren't herbal like CBD.

    That prolapse must be horribly uncomfortable for the dog, not to mention having that smell with him constantly. Egad!
    This job could only have been done by a groomer with a lot of experience and boundless compassion.

    If he has back end problems his anal glands might be infected or impacted and that can cause soreness and severe itching all over his skin. Also makes his medical problems stink like death

    You did the best you could, but the excuse of not finding a groomer is unacceptable. Really, like the owners can’t get a clipper and clip the dog themselves? Letting a dog get that matted is abuse.

      I am not defending the owners as I have absolutely no clue what the real story is . But not everything is black and white . Not being able to find a groomer is a very real and valid concern for some dog owners . There is not one groomer that has ever agreed to groom my my dog. I have no choice but to have medical grooms done. From a vet . And even then, they won’t touch him without IV sedation. My dog is on the older side and so anytime you put your dog under , it’s a risk! So unfortunately, I am limited in the number of grooms my dog can get. I have tried countless methods and spent countless hours attempting to do it myself but beyond simple brushing and hand “raking” out as much impacted fur as I can (which I do daily) , he WILL begin to develop matting at his backend, his “armpits” and behind his ears. I never let it get to a point where it’s causing him obvious pain (I say obvious only because he can’t verbalize this to me but I pay attention to my dogs non verbal cues as much as possible. Especially knowing that dogs are stoic and tend to not want to “show” if they are in pain .). I have to constantly balance the risk/reward factor . Therefore, I DO end up “letting” SOME matting build up simply because I can’t increase the frequency of his iv sedations . The risk is too high .
      Don’t misunderstand, there’s way too many owners out there that have no business owning a dog or even a gold fish . BUT not EVERYTHING is what it seems .

    I work in dialysis and know exactly what it’s like with the odor. You can buy the individually wrapped alcohol wipes that come in a box of #50 - 100 to wipe under your nose which helps me immensely with the gagging reflex due to foul odors. 😉. Come on mom give Kelby a little Brudda!! So sweet ❤❤❤❤❤

    I know this might not be my place, but I think having coconut oil handy would help with the itchiness. I have 2 dogs with sensitive skin, and we live in a place where they are often exposed to allergens. Rub a generous amount into the affected area after you give them a bath and brush into their coat. It helps if they're still wet. It also allows for any scented spray to stick and last longer. Its good for their stomach, too. I'd even say you could have placed some on his back end to help keep the prolapsed area moisturized and clean. It's a natural antifungal/antibacterial ointment.

    Gosh. Can't vets fix that? I'm sure it can be fixed in humans. Poor little fellow. He looked like he was enjoying his bath though.

    Don't be sorry, we understand. What I don't understand is that nobody wants to groom him. He's so sweet.💔💔💔 Medical condition or not that poor baby can't groom himself. The groomers that won't or can't do it should have veterinarians business phone numbers to get them taken care of by veterinarians assistents. Trained of course to do so.

    I love watching your old videos also I need to know how can you tell if a dogs hair is dry? Mine feels like her hair needs to be conditioned a bit idk if it’s just her hair texture

    • @RoversMakeoverOfficial
      @RoversMakeoverOfficial  9 месяцев назад +4

      With a high velocity dryer if you dry the dog then go back to spot a few seconds later it should still be warm. If it feels cool it is most likely still wet.

    • @nathalierodriguez0

      @@RoversMakeoverOfficial no I’m talking about like how do you know if a dog has dry skin and needs some conditioner because mine feels like she needs some on her skin

    • @vruxiuk
      @vruxiuk 9 месяцев назад +5

      She wasn’t talking about hair being dry after a bath, but hair being dry, as in health wise!
      To answer you, @nathalierodriguez0, you can feel the hair is dry when it’s not as soft/silky as it’s supposed to be when you touch it, like your own hair when they have been conditioned, they are silky, soft, bouncy even. Dog’s hair should feel like the same, if not, then it’s dry and needs to be conditioned. If you are not sure, you can still conditioned the hair of your dog after its bath, just dilute it so you don’t over condition it.
      Hope that helps better than the previous answer… 😅

      Dry hair/skin can also be of the dogfood. If the hair stays dry perhabs it is a reaction om the current one. It can taken 3 weeks t see a result of you switch to other food.
