I read a theory on Reddit that Byleth and the mercenaries were just escorting the lords in the opening scene to the church, when on the way there they get attacked by bandits and Byleth ends up saving Edelgard from the bandit, after which he is offered a role as a teacher due to them witnessing his fighting prowess firsthand.
Well except that we see byleth with an axe in his side and meets sothis in the exact same position we saw him in when he was hit then he comes back and foresees? The attack or just gets another shot at blocking it
In my opinion, that's actually a good way to start the game. That and also having a tutorial battle like in all of the Fire Emblem games for those who are either new to the series or haven't played in a while. In reality, this game is really trying to appeal to both the new generation of players for Fire Emblem and the old generation who played all the games from the late 80's to the early 21st century.
Somebody, not me, had the idea that instead of children the students would graduate and take on students of their own instead of having children, or perhaps a time skip, and basically that would replace children.
That would honestly be so cool. It would explain the inheriting of skills and stats and provide more characters and supports without the cringey "deep realms"

Oh dear god, the thumbnail really illustrates the big difference between M!Byleth and F!Byleth’s Eyes and how the female one’s is just weirddd and out of place. Anyway I’m glad to see you guys been optimistic just like I do and unlike most other people who are just HATING EVERYTHING about this game. I am really looking forward to trying this game out and you guys brought up some very interesting points throughout the video.
Male and female designs are usually different. All the other characters in FE:TH aren't that different. Boys have smaller pupils and girls have bigger pupils for instance. I personally prefer the female one as the male protagonist always looks so stern.
Nothing wrong with the face portion of both. That's how anime style works for like a generation now. Female design flaw is that they decided to neither go covered up design nor fanservicey design and it ended up with something that mix the worst aspects of both. If I had a say, I would give her a skirt, a solid thigh highs socks and either an upper piece that covered her arms and entire torso or if it had to be fanservicey, at least her upper torso.
Glad I finally see a channel (outside Mamodxx) not negative about this series that keeps an open mind on things agree with alot of things said enjoyed your guest too!
A very good video, Max. Love the discussion between you & Aamebell. A few points of my own I'd like to add: 1- I don't think that you'll have to kill the other houses for two reasons. First, the relationship between Edelgard, Dimitri & Claude is too friendly from what we've seen. I feel that you'll convince them to join you before you're forced to kill them. Second, if you play as just one house, I feel that, at most, your army has 10 people, maybe a few more (Byleth + 7 students + Sothis? + extras). It just doesn't seem right. 2- You're probably looking too deep into Faith, Reason & Authority. IMO, Faith = Healing + Light? (As you mentioned), Reason = Anima + Dark (The symbol has 2 tomes) & Authority = Infantry.
Calling that Authority will be like the leadership stars from Radiant Dawn and some GBA FE, where you can become a leader and inspire troops for more avoid and crit, sort of.
Unfortunately, I don’t think there will be any character customization besides different outfits since they showed Byleth’s ordinary look in a pre-rendered cutscene
I hope you still get gameplay customizations on your avatar such as strengths and weaknesses and even a severity, for instance if you choose str for strength and def for weakness, you could make it mild to give them a slight offensive upside, or make it major to turn them into a glass canon
I do think Byleth will also speak in Supports as well. As much as it works in Persona even though some parts of social links arent voiced I don't see it translating well in FE support wise. It would be too one-sided especially when one character confess their feelings to you and you just say one thing unless they really go above and beyond giving the player different ways of approaching a support chain with every character with your Avatar then its possible. Also I do think we'll still have customization for him that's not our appearance like our name, boon/bane, talent(which has me wonder how reclassing our Avatar will work here), birthday and something new I'm sure will be implemented.
You know I thought about that and looked at prior cutscenes and notice the Avatars never spoke in any cutscenes importantly for Corrin which was the previous Protagonist(exception being the the very first big scene before choosing the route you take) while still talking in game dialogue, crits, supports, etc. This is looking to follow suit with Byleth as well.

I think you really hit the nail on the head when you said that this was a trailer largely aimed at bringing the new audience in, showing them what's different and special about this particular Fire Emblem game. I'm fully expecting the next trailer to go more in-depth on the combat, the Gambit/weapon skill systems, the magic systems, and the story- all the stuff the long-standing fans already know will be there.
100% agree with you on P5 protagonist comparison for character customization. There's just no way I can see them re-rendering every cutscene Byleth is in for every possible face/hair customization option we were offered in Awakening & Fates. Not that that's a bad thing - as long as we get to change the name it's all good. There will likely be birthdate and boon/bane customization too. But for instance, Awakening & Fates customization options are completely forgettable. Robin and Corrin have default appearances that everyone knows them by, and their respective games wouldn't have been worse off if we couldn't customize their appearance at the start of the game. If the animation team gets to work on more useful stuff as a result of not having to do renders for all character customization options then I'd argue we're better off for it.

Here’s some things you might have missed in the trailer *I don’t know either what the three green arrows in the combat menu could be, maybe something about formation; what I find interesting is that Dorothea doesn’t have them unlike every other characters *combat arts, unlike Echoes, doesn’t seem to be payed with an hp cost; the “curved shot” combat art has a “3” cost to be payed but Bernadetta’s life stays invariate. My thought is that combat arts now deplete weapon durability instead of health *faith and reason are probably just tied to damaging magic and healing magic, the fact that reason has two types of tomes on it looks like there could be a third type of magic, I’d personally think it might be a buff/debuff type; while authority might have something to do with the effectiveness of the battalion *Authority is not within the “skill level” panel (at 45:17) *Notice that the Black Beast was using a “Crest stone of Gautier” as a weapon. Very interesting, even because “Gautier” is the surname of Sylvain and a place in the map as well. *In the scene where Byleth gets stabbed in the back you can see both Edelgard’s leg and dagger in front of him, meaning that he’s shielding her from the attack
Lucky Crit pointed out that Sothis' headpiece is very similar to Seiros', and since people are speculating the church is corrupt, it only makes sense that Sothis would be evil if she's aligned with them. Or she's just Seiros, and that's how she's decided to project herself into Byleth's mind. Faith just looks to be light magic, and Reason has two tomes, probably representing dark and anima magic. The list of classes doesn't end at Priest. You can see another separator, meaning you can scroll down. You can make your characters any class under the sun. "Pass rate" would refer to the rate of success at passing the exam and actually becoming a brigand, or whatever class. If you fail, back to the drawing board to make your skills higher.
I mean, shenanigans do ensue at military school. They're just the covert ops of shenanigans. XD Also, I LOVE that you mentioned this because I'm so tired of seeing what has clearly been called an officers academy, which would be a post-secondary school, being referred to as highschool and the characters as kids. If you're training to be an officer in the military in any country or even any time period you are at least 19. Even delving into history it's rare to find teen officers and they were usually noted by colleauges as being an oddity.
I think my biggest questions are: what's causing the rebellions? Does the game differ greatly depending on which group you choose? And is there any way to save the dad?! 😢

Iv noticed that the designs are all basic but the class changes get more intricate as they go along. I feel like that goes along with the freedom to build these characters into whatever you want and as they grow their 3D models get more detailed.

What if your pass rate is 100% then you get 100% of the bonus stats for that class upgrade/change? And if your pass rate is just 50% you only get 50% of those bonus stats, but you can get that upgrade/change earlier. Basically allowing you to choose to upgrade fast... or wait for better bonus stats at 100% Similar to Pokemon, like Pikachu, where Pikachu learns moves until level 50s, but Raichu doesn't *learn* anymore moves, even if he was evolved at level 10, but gets better stats but never is able to reach his earlier potential.
There is a difference between japan and us three houses direct is that u can hear character voice bigger and when the scene with Dothy in japanese ver thay give the sword skill not the reason skill

Super Blorb Sothis can give Byleth the power of “Milas Turnwheel” and since he “reads” the enemy attack that’s why he gets asked to be a teacher.

Thats pretty early in the game they likely have an emotional push for our MC. They also did it recently in a spin-off so its likely not changing here.
