Thank you. I've been wondering about this pedal and I love wah ( I have broke them using them so much, generally the axles fall out and duct taping in place or epoxy). I use an old Vox pedal now and a Talking EHX wah pedal.
Great demo & review. I just wish that, I could part-with: my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe ( but I love it ). This one sounds really good. Very versatile-too. oNe LoVe from NYC
I have a question. Can you actually leave It in volume mode send an output through your chain and the other to a pedal compatibile with an expression and switch between the volume sweels stuff and using this as an EXP pedal?
Both good, still on my board and rocking it! Only quick fix I ever had to do was to tighten 2 screws inside because it started wiggling a little side to side.. super easy and it's been firm ever since.
Thanks for the vid! Do you know if the exp output will work with Boss digital pedals? I'm trying to match a wah/exp with an RC-600 and many exp pedals won't work.
You’re welcome! I am not sure about that one, but i don’t see why not. In my experience, compatibility has more to do with the digital pedal than the Exp pedal itself
What about hum? Have you tried, how much hum it catches, if it`s placed close to the power supply? In the first version, the Fasel coil wasn`t shielded, it was unusable, unless it was more than 30cm away from my power supply. A really great review!
For a wah it's very good. The tech behind wahs makes it that it will catch a hum on occasion, but with this unit so far it's been as quiet as a wah can be!
Hi Johann, thanks for a great review. I play medium sized gigs with a very small amp(Blues Junior) trying to keep the sound as clean as possible (by micing). Is this gorgeous little SP2 going to overdrive my amp? (I've heard it increases gain and grain. Thanks so much, keep them coming 👍
Hi there! Love the Blues Jr., I still use mine quite a bit. This Wah will do! It doesn't OD amps nearly as much as other Wahs, though keep in mind that you do drive certain frequencies up quite a bit (it's the purpose). So if your amp gain is past 6-7, it'll start breaking up... But that's the beauty of a 15W amp. If it does, turn the Q knob down a bit! You'll still get the wah effect without driving the eq as hard:)
Yep, I'd really like to know more about this... it could stop me from buying it. I use a Blues Junior with a clean sound (as loud as I can go) and I'm afraid it's going to push it into overdrive. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated 👍
Hey Charles. Great question. NO scratch, which is awesome and unheard of yet in my experience! I did have to tighten a couple screws inside the pedal, with great and clear instructions from the service dept at Hotone, because it started wiggling laterally... which one could expect after 100s of unforgiving foot movements! It was quick and easy. It's good as new still.
Is it possible to place the Soul Press 2 on a (transformer based) power supply? Or will this cause hum? The inductor in the old red Soul Press wasn't shielded at all...
I'm not sure... what power supply specifically are you talking about? I use a good isolated power supply (Phoenix by Walrus) and it's perfect (except a normal hum when in Wah mode)
Exp function is really straight forward, compared to the innovations highlighted here.. but it’s an awesome and mighty function, especially now that builders start omitting the exp pedal from their multi effects units!
@@Johannfrank so how would you use the input and expession input at tha same time if the volume is controlled in green mode and wah in blue..how do you control the expression out???
@@i.b.l.b5627 you can’t do both. It’s either a volume+wah, chained and powered like a regular pedal, or an EXP, plugged into a multi effect (Ampero, etc). Hence why I focus on the vol+wah function because to me, it’s the where this pedal really breaks ground. However the one plus side of the EXP function is: the pedal doesn’t need power in that mode. So, that can be a plus depending on your rig. Hope this helps!
I've never used it as EXP, because it's just too good as a vol/wah. It's almost a shame to use the EXP function, which would cancel out these 2 functions. I transferred my Soul Press 1 over to EXP duties, though! Super small footprint and works well.
Havent tried the Joyo (cause I'm so all set with the SPII! haha), but at first look I don't see an EXP function on the Joyo... So that would be one clear argument for the SPII. Joyo looks old school chunky, too
Superb demonstration, comprehensive and well-considered. And FINALLY, someone demoing the pedal with a clean sound, plus drive. Great work.
@@stefanhamilton8713 I appreciate the love!
Outstanding demonstration on every level…
Thank you Greg!
Best demo of this pedal. Ordering now.
Very helpful and tidy review. You actually caused me buying the soul press II.
Cheers mate
Thanks Andy! Hope you’re enjoying the SPII as much as I am, that thing is a slam dunk!
Thanks Johann ‼️you are so talented..I love to listen to you play the guitar 🎸❤️🥰👏
hotone, electro harmonix and nux are some of the best bang for buck
Cool Johann ! J'apprécie depuis le Burkina ou je suis en mission pour 6 semaines ! Tu as vraiment un super talent ! Amitiés ! Rémy Moret
Very thorough, informative review by a great player
Thank you!
Best demo for this pedal hands down
Thank you so much!
As a very experienced player I say very well performed and musically explored!
Nicely done 😊
Such a great review. Loved the "Q all the way down trick" and its applications.
This are an awesome musician. Enjoyed learning from this video. This id do interesting. Thank you.

We love our gear, what can we do! Haha
great demo! I just got the Wong Press version, the Q knob does absolutely nothing compared to this one! bummer.
That's news to me! Definitely try this one out if that is something of value to you - it really is versatile!
@@Johannfrank yeah I hope my wong press is defective, waiting for responses from hottone. can't be like that.
Excellent Video, playing, and explanation. Much Appreciated 🤙
9:30 almost teared me up :P
How freaking good can he play those funky wah grooves OMG! Great Player!
Thank you!
Wonderful video Brother, which 9volt adapter do you use or 9 v batteries ?
@@ddebayan1990 any works! Low draw. And if you use it as an EXP into your profiler, it doesn’t need any power.

Thoughts on using the volume side with a slide or for pedal-steel esque sounds?
@@hiroprotagonitis I do it all the time; I own a double neck lap steel and this does a perfect job at it - nice firmness, control, scope.

HA! Love that concept. I don't think it's possible, though. I currently use my SP one as EXP.
Great demo!! How bout the quality and durability?

How's this pedal when it comes to the gain. When you switch it on does it automatically overboost your signal like most wah pedal?
As close to "no" as it gets. Never been an issue for me with this pedal.

Anyone else's SP2 adding a bit of grit/dirt when using the wah? Mine seems to boost the signal a bit and add some dirt.

does it's volume control gradually increasing and decreasing or not?...
Yes, it's very linear
What kinda cables does it take? Normal instrument cables or TRS? Many thanks
Normal quarter inch.
Hi, they say this is compatible with Quad Cortex. Did you have any chance to try out? chers
I haven't had that chance yet!
what is better one or two?
Hi, can i connect the Tone Press ll with 18V ?
I don't believe you can; refer to the manual to make sure. I always abide to factory specs when it comes to electrical matters
The 'volume swell' goes from quiet to loud instantly. It's awfully
... and the expression pedal demo? :(
