Sincere thanks for clearly explaining how to set the flash for optical slave mode, Alex! I have struggled for months to figure out how it works -- couldn't understand the instruction manual. Now I can use both my TT685F and TT685O/P with two non-radio Canon flashes (580EX II). Thanks again!
I'm glad I could help :-D
Great and simple way explaining.. Very useful
Very flexible bit of kit and operation looks fairly intuitive.

Great overview. How do i turn infrared focus assist on and off?
Thank you for your video, I tried to watch the video godox made themselves but... It's too fast and you have to read while they operate the functions. Your video's are super nice and easy to watch and understand. RUclips needs more people like you :)
Excellent. Thank you.....!
You are welcome!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing, I have the TT685 that can work only as S to be able to use it on top of the camera, I tried to set it up as a M but it will not triggered by the camera shutter. using it on lumix G9 & GH5, any thoughts ,,thanks
Thanks a lot !
Great tutorial
Thanks!
Hello. I bought a Godox TT685S for my Sony A6500. I mount it regularly on the shoe mount. Depending on the lighting situation sometimes the camera triggers the flash, sometimes it doesn't. Is there any setup for the camera so it will trigger the Godox Flash every time I take a picture ? Thank you.
I just want to use mine as a speedlight camera mounted. I have had mine for two months and have never got it to fire when the shutter button is pressed. Yes, it is compatible.
When I turn my dial in manual mode the flash power doesn’t change, any suggestions?
thanks bro
My hotshoes steel it has got scartches and hot shoe black square part also does it impact ????
Nice job, Ive been looking for vids on this light for a while, thank you. Could you make one with the X2T controller?
I'm looking for the same thing. I don't think I have comprehension problems but trying to get my X2Tc to work with my TT685 has been fruitless to this point.
Nice one Alex - just bought one of these and an x-pro controller. Great video - nice and clear. Might want to mention the bad thing about optical slaves versus radio is that opticals can be triggered by other people's flashes - particular annoying at weddings :-)
You're right! It's super annoying! I only use it as a last resort when I work in studio.
for the tt685 and using a power pack, does the power pack provide all necessary power or do you still have to install the double A batteries for the electronics?
thank you it was usefulll lets try this set of beast
Thanks for the comment!
I can get my TT685C flashes to work Manually from the XPROC trigger, but I can't get them to work in TTL mode. The flash goes off, but when I change the flash compensation on the XPROC and hit Set it doesn't change on the flash. Nor does the mm distance change. I Can't find a video anywhere that says how to get this to work. Can you help?
mine wont go out of manual zoom lens mode and i cant even rotate the wheel to rotate the zoom.
I have finally managed to get the flash to fire remotely, following your advice, however the of camera flash fires before taking the shot. Now i don't know to get them in sync. To clarify, my godox fires first then the on camera flash along with taking a shot (which i don't even know how it works, seeing the on camera flash that i use as a trigger should be triggering the godox). I am uzing a Panasonic FZ82 camera, if it helps.
Nice
My godox 685N is in the Manual mode in I-TTL mode. How do I get it back to Auto in the I-TTL mode?
Tnx so much, before to see this video i can t use the flash in optical mode...the manual is not usefull
Thank you Alex for the great video. I'm trying to find out if it's possible to turn off or change the pre-flash setting on my Godox TT685, while still in TTL, as it's slowing down the shoot and I can see the quick pre-flashes which is affecting my subjects reaction. Thank you!
I'm almost sure that's a camera setting. Look for the "Red Eye Reduction" function on your camera and Disable it. This should make the flash to only fire when actually taking the picture
I set mine to Manual 1/8 power but when I switch on Manual Mode on the camera (Sony A7iii) it goes to TTL flash. I couldn't change it on the top of the camera. I wish I'd bought the manual-only TT600 model. Scott Kelby recommends Manual only in his excellent book. I think the photographer should decide the settings he/she wants to use.
Very useful. Thanks.
Glad to hear that!
@@alexsilva_co I actually just received this unit and it's on camera transmitter two days ago. I haven't tried it with the camera yet. Just tested both units. I was just wondering if I were to use it in optical slave mode, does that mean I could use the on camera flash also to trigger it? This technology is just amazing.
@@timd4524 you're right, that is exactly how the optical slave mode works 🙂
@@alexsilva_co Thank you very much. 😃
Tank you, a Gerät instruction!
Thank you for the comment! :-D
Thank you
Thanks for the comment :-)
i just want a flash especially a cheap one at that lol to start taking pictures at night and hope my pictures come out better without the shadow. i just want the flash to work when i press the shutter button and i take the picture. so of course i want the flash to be automatic so all i have to do is point and shoot so this is the only flash i need right

Hi. Could you maybe please make a tutorial, illustrating how you shoot a wedding with only one Godox TT685c. Showing step by step the effect the speedlight has with different power settings. My camera is a Caonon 750d also known as rebel 6i. Speedlight TT685c. Greetings.
Hi! Unfortunately, I don't shoot weddings anymore, but I planned a video about flash power. Keep an eye on this channel :-)
Interesting, my widest manual value for zoom is 20mm, yours seems lower than that!
EDIT: I found out why, if you extend the built in diffuser, it goes down to 14mm. Unsure if it just adds on -6mm to settings or if it actually does anything differently internally.
EDIT2: Hmm, that only seems to do it to 14mm, and it stays there, yours seemed to go wider still and being able to adjust. I'm using the Godox TT685N
Good guide, thank you. How do I stop the sound when zooming in and out, please?
I'm afraid you can't. That is the sound of the motor, moving the emitter forward and backward inside the flash's head.
Very informative ! Just one question Do we need to have radio Trigger attached to all slaves and the master flasher to operate together ?
Thanks Mr Silva
Hi there! You only need a transmitter on your camera (X1T or XPro). The flash has an integrated receiver so it doesn need an additional trigger.
Hi Alex, thank you for the tutorial, however, you didn’t mention about high speed and how to set high speed when using the flash off camera. How can I do that? Do you know? Thanks in advance.
I understand your point. In this video I wanted to cover features that work more or less the same in all versions of the flash. I'm preparing videos about specific features like HSS, 2nd curtain sync, etc. Keep an eye for future videos.
Thank you for the video...it helped me a lot!!! I bought this one but i didnt know how to use it off the camera...now i know, i tried it and its working perfectly....
Glad I could help!
super useful thank you
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad I helped you :-)
@@alexsilva_co Hi Alex,
I have a little problem that I think you will be solving.
I just got a TT685c and two TT600.
It's great to be able to trigger the two TT600 with the 685 on the device. I acquired these three flashes because precisely, this allows you to adjust them all from the 685 (without X1T). What I would like is to be able to trigger my two TT600 from the camera with the 685.
When I go to the group settings, I can adjust my TT600 (respectively on group A and B) but I can't figure out how to adjust the power of the 685 itself.
I don't have the same screen as the one you are showing (at 8min05). On your screen, you have the letter M which allows you to adjust the master itself. I don't have this letter. I don't know if this difference happened with new firmware (I'm on 3.4). From my screen, I can adjust the groups (like you) and I can choose between triggering the master or not (but I can't adjust its power). Do I understand that the master flash in TTL?
Thanks again for this video and for your help
If I remember correctly, the TT685c (Canon version) has the Master flash in group A by default. So, could you try your TT600's as groups B and C and turn group A off, as a test?
Again, I'm writing this from what I remember reading the manual. The 685 that I have is the Fujifilm version.
Indeed, after trying for several hours, I came to this conclusion. The master is in group A by default. However, there is no information on this in the manual. Thanks again Alex!
Can the 685 be used as a trigger for the 850ii?
Very glad to find your video. I am looking at getting this flash unit. I saved your video actually. I also have a Nikon SB800. Can I use this Godox in slave mode to be triggered by my Nikon SB800?
Hi! You could set the TT685 in S1 (optical slave) mode and then it would fire when your SB800 fires :-)
Thank you Alex for an extremely informative video. One question though ... when communicating with other devices you said you like to use channel 9 but you didn't say why. I was wondering why you chose this and does it matter?
Barry, it doesn’t matter at all. Number nine might be his favorite number, that’s all ha ha good luck buddy
Thank you so much for this very helpful walkthrough. I'm a long time video shooter since the 90's dabbling more into photos these days. I am starting to venture into more complex flash systems and this video really helped me understand the TT685.
Thanks so much for the comment!
Thak you so much! Finally found a way to fire this flash externally with my canon sl2... Canon sl2 also has several other options to control the external flash, is there another way to fire this flash without using popup flash?
You could use cables or a radio system to trigger the flash. If you want to use radio triggers, I suggest the Godox transmitters like the X1T or XPro.
Great Lesson for me, Thank you. I have a problem/question for you. I want to use the Godox X1T F mounted on my Fuji XT-3 as a remote trigger and as a flash mount/hotshoe key light.....using only 1 speedlight which is off camera. I am not able to get the X1T to power my Fuji EF-X8 flash when it is on the X1T. Is there a way the X1T can be used in this way?
I don't think you can fire the EF-X8 while it is on top of the X1T, but I'll test it and post a video with the answers to some other questions. Keep an eye on this channel :-)
please how will u know their current battery level
un able to change zoom, .7 only?
Is this better than tt350? Thanks. Planning to buy this.
Hello,
Do you know if it is possible to plug it directly into the AC outlet ?
This avoid to always charged batteries …
That's a great question! I'm not aware of any AC adapters for hotshoe flashes but I'll add it to my list of topics to research
Hello , Do you know why mine is stuck in 14 mm zoom?
This video should come with the manual instructions.... Good job 🙂
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad I could help :-)
Great video I only have a couple of questions, what is the difference between the yn685 and the tt685? Which one would you recommend?
Between those two options, I'd go with the Godox TT685. If you'd like to see more options, take a look at this video where I also explain why I don't recommend Yongnuo ruclips.net/video/oe5Rhb7zSeo/видео.html
How do i enable hss when using x1 trigger
hello, I´d like to know what´s the difference between the channels?
Thanks for the useful video, what is your wrist watch brand and model?
Thanks for the comment! It's a Citizen Eco-Drive AT2095-07E
Thanks Alex for a very nice & informative Video !
I am a beginner. I own one TT685 C Flash & I am learning to use it thru Videos like yours.
I also intend to get one more Flash. Would you recommend to get one more TT 685 C or V 860 ii C ?
Kindly reply.

Can use for canon 2000d manual mode ?
I have canon 80d and I will buy godox tt685c and x1 trigger but a lot of people says that tr685c is not working good in ttl mode with canon 80d and even the trigger x1 is not working cool with canon 80d so the problem of ttl mode of flash and trigger with canon 80d solved or still stuck please help me before I waste my dollars 💔
thanks a lot for this video. how about high speed sync though
Hi! I'm glad I could you with this video. Regarding HSS, I think I'll make a video just about that, both on and off camera.
How can we do high-speed sync off camera as slave 1 without a trigger.
Hi there! I don't think that's possible :-(
Sir i'm on a tight budget... Better i buy a trigger godox x1t or the second godox tt685 ? for portrait shots... Are there any difference between trigger and the speedlight... I meant a tt685 speed light is not worse than a x1t trigger? Thank you...
And one more question:
30mm lens On Sony APSC body, do i have to set the zoom to 45mm? Thanks...
I think I would get a second tt685, if I were in your situation and I had the budget. You can use the TT685 on-camera as a flash and as a controller for a second, off-camera TT685.
The flash zoom setting can be changed to display actual coverage according to your system. It's one of the custom functions, but I can't quite remember the exact one.
I need advice. I'm working part time weddings and event photography
should i change from yongnuo 468 II to godox tt685c thinklite??? Thx for
any help :)
Based on my analysis and the experience of friends, I would suggest the Godox flash. Please keep in mind that the final purchasing decision is yours, depending on your budget and needs :-)
Hi everyone. I start using TT685n on Nikon D750 for half a year but the red light assist beam suddenly stopped working. Do any of you know why and could offer some advice? Thanks a lot
omg the exact same thing just happened to me, and I can't find an answer anywhere. Did you ever manage to figure it out?
