Wow... I can't help but think that Wearingeul Hades would look great in the Visconti Mirage Mythos Poseidon finish. Kind of ironic that the ink and the fountain pen are named after brothers who don't get along most of the time!
Oooo! That's a great thought!! I was SOOOO pondering about getting Poseidon....it's such a good look and different from the rest of the gold trimmed Mythos. Hmm...I might as well...Visconti's Poseidon uses a schmidt nib, it should be quite a wet writer to show off more of these gorgeous blue shimmers!
So glad to see a review of the Jacques Herbin Shogun ink it’s a smooth, beautiful wet writing ink and writes like a dream in my TWISBI Eco with a 1.1 stub nib (which always starts). Thanks for sharing
xD Yeah! Thanks for watching ^_^ I agree, it is pretty smooth for a shimmer ink! It's doing so well with my EF nib, so I can only imagine how beautiful it looks coming out of your 1.1 stub! Eco stubs are REALLY good!! I love them :)
Hi Rachelle, indeed - I agree, the subtlety of the blue shimmer is quite pretty and you see it much better in the light. Very beautiful and VERY WELL flowing ink. I love it :)
I have yet to try Oyster Hour in one of my pens, but I really love the lightness of that ink - I am just afraid it won't be as legible. I know for sure, majestic maple is illegible (at least for my standards) and Oyster Hour is that same color/tone. But Oyster Hour seems like a perfect match with Hades! Lovely ink choice! I also agree, Shogun is so beautiful. I love seeing that little pop of red gold when I tilt my paper or look at my page from a different side. So amazing ^_^
Have you been able to get either of them yet? :) I really really love Shogun so much!!! I am hoping to get a broader nib and use it to see the beautiful shimmers. For now, the EF nib still shows the coppery/red gold shimmers, so I'm very happy with that, too.
While not immersing myself into these discussed inks, I did experiment with Wearingeul's "Black Night" which I find to be excellent. It has some glitter, which is subtle and almost invisible on the page unless one is really looking for the effect. Makes it great for using at work, while keeping my life interesting personally, without entering into obvious iconoclassism.
Yeah I find that subtlety of some shimmer inks, especially black inks that are well flowing, to be a lovely quality for work or work appropriate settings. They’re very interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience on black night, I shall have to look that up and see how it looks!
Is it really? It’s completely sold out at Atlas, lol! I’m glad I got it before they sold out. But yes, it’s quite underrated from the fact I don’t see a lot of folks using it, and I am actually surprised that the shimmers flow so evenly throughout all my letters through an elastic EF nib. It looks very elegant !
Haha, yeah, J Herbin's regular line of inks are probably very dry - I know rouille d'ancre is super dry, but the Emerald of Chivor ink flows very well compared to rouille dancre. So I suspected that the shimmer line in J. Herbin would all be about the same. I haven't had it clog in my EF nib yet, so I'd say the flow of this black Shogun ink is pretty good!
I was just wondering when you were going to post the Shogun ink video and BAM your video popped up! I like that you also showed off the Hades ink which I’ve been thinking about getting. It is pretty nice- especially with a broad or stub:). As far as Shogun, it looks like a nice fit for the LMZ Hades but wish it leaned more gold than red/copper. I think the search for the best ink must continue 😂. I may have to mix gold shimmer into a black ink. Sorry to hear you got sick. Get well soon. Great review and thanks for sharing! 🖊️ 💫
xD So glad you are here to watch it and be among the first few to see haha ♥ I'm glad I put Hades Leonardo right next to the ink to compare them. Definitely not perfect match, but I love how this Shogun ink's shimmers look on paper. It's exquisite and luxurious - expected nothing less of a J. Herbin ink xD If you're looking for the perfect black with gold shimmer ink...I shall look up some and see if there's any I know! :D But continuing to search is always a fun part of the hobby! And yeah, I love the subtle beauty of the blue shimmer in the Hades ink. I think for lack of better pairing by name, I should try it in my Hades pen one of these days when I want to swap Shogun out! XD
I would have been over moon if the Hades ink and the Hades pen had been a perfect match. That would have been the chefs kiss 😚. I have the flex fine nib on my hades pen so I might try shogun and will use your link to buy it. If you do find something else that pairs well let us know! The other night I stared at the hades pen just floored by the magic imbued in it. If I look too hard I might turn to stone. Just a glorious one. Tempted to get a 1.1 stub for it.

I've been debating on picking up a bottle of Hades, and...I'm still on the fence. 😅🤣😂 It was hella helpful to hear that no matter how much I want it to be shimmertastic, it's probably not going to be, though. **sigh** Thank you for sharing!!! 😍❤
Christy! Girl I’ll just send you a sample! I was about to say I won’t go through the whole bottle, but Wearingeul is only 30 ml lol. Regardless I have way too many inks that I definitely won’t finish this bottle within 5 years lol. We’ll set up another ink swap!
The swatches are great in and of themselves, but if there is no shimmer seen in the writing sample why bother? Ink goes in fountain pens with which we write. Correct?
Well I would also like to ask you, what is great in and of themselves about swatches? If they are great, then it is always worth it to bother, correct? Who’s to say that every fountain pen will not show off the shimmer? Do swatches only apply if you manage to choose a pen that reveals shimmer exactly like the swatch? Swatches do show us the potential for the properties you can get from using them in fountain pens AND painting/drawing, and anything else you would like to use your ink for. The colorverse note did state those two as uses for its ink. If you don’t do a swatch, how can you tell how much shimmer you’d get when you paint with it? And then by showing it from a fountain pen as I’ve shown, you can know the difference of how an ink behaves in a pen vs. it not being used from a pen. I don’t show specifically how it looks painted because I don’t do that, but others might. And as I indicated I do see shimmer in the writing, albeit very subtle. And in writing, we know that the distribution of shimmers can vary from ink to ink, and the performance from pen to pen. But now this does give me an idea for future videos. I will show writing samples in multiple different nib sizes to compare :) thank you for your question!
@@KenchanKrafts Thanks for your response. All I meant to say, and perhaps I was not clear, is that for a fountain pen user who uses inks to simple writes letters etc., not for sketching or painting, all I need to know is if the shimmer (or sheen for that matter) appears on the page. Recently I bought the pricey Herbin Emeraude Dr Chicor and I was underwhelmed even when placed it in a BB nib
@@herrsteppenwolf Emerald of Chivor is indeed an underwhelming ink - I can agree with you on that. J Herbin's shimmers are very very tiny compared to other inks, so I think the whole Herbin shimmer ink line might not show off the shimmers too loudly.
