Being able to switch Pokémon as the opponent throws them in is the difficulty switch in Pokémon. You can turn it off in the settings and it definitely makes the game marginally harder.

All the longer routes your rival heals you and they literally give you a Latias half way through the game, Pokemons never been a ‘hard’ game but it’s mental how easy they’ve made them now
Yes the Pokemon games are very easy and have become even easier with the friendship mechanic, but it's very clear that Charlie wouldn't have been able to get through the E4 as he did without chat given the VERY clear lack of Pokemon knowledge.
The remake really made this entire journey a lot easier. The friendship mechanic and the addition of fairy typing really changed the outcome of these elite four battles.
I recently played through the original Pokemon Diamond and most of my Pokemon had just gotten to level 50 by the time I reached Cynthia, considering that all of her Pokemon are at least lv 60 and her Garchomp is lv 66 it can be a pretty difficult fight.
I definitely underestimated this e-4 along with the champion , the e-4 was slightly annoying but not too difficult but Cynthia was a pain. It took me two attempts but her garchomp surprised me
Yeah charlie talking about how easy cynthia is while playing on switch, going to chat for every move, and using thousands of pokedollars worth in full restores irked me a lot. If he had no warning, that garchomp would have been way more of a threat than it was here.
