I was so confused when my whole team couldn't take down one Snorlax the entire game. We ended the game with only two kills and were trying to figure out how the hell our opponents bodied us with default attacks while we threw unite moves at them. Now I know you can just buy all the upgrades. Pretty lame.

i grind this game frequently, due to a recent update anyone playing before mobile release (and i think some mobile players idk) got 3 special tokens that upgrade any item to grade 30 instantly. there is also a quest/task/event that gives 150-160 grade tokens for playing different roles (Support, attacker, speedster- so and so) the pay to win aspect is still apparent but thanks to this update a lot more players can catch up. that or Nintendo saw this video and got spooked
Yeah game isn't pay to win anymore tbh. I am f2p reached masters and I started playing after mobile release. U can pay to get a very small tiny advantage but it doesn't guarantee win anymore.

Even if you couldn't spend real money on it, having items upgraded outside of gameplay is just a terrible system. Will only create a wall for new players to overcome that gets worse as the games life goes on, worse than unlocking different characters in other MOBAs.
like I rememebr back with League of Legend's old rune system there was SOME pay to win with ya know...having run pages and innate power just by spawning in over new palyers but like. it was mostly just a few early game stats to make surviving the laning phase easier. this is literally just...pay or dont be new (but still if you pay you're better) to ACTUALLY play the cahracter

As Silent Shadows said, old League Of Legends runes system was basically stat boosts that you would have to grind out influence points for. You also couldn't even use the whole page until you were max level (30 at the time).
Nah. We will be okay. Truly competitive games will not ever do this because it ruins competitive integrity. Who wants to grind a ranked mode when you can literally spend money to be better? Stuff like League lets you unlock more characters with real money as well as in game currency but most people only play a handful of champions anyway. Even when Paladins tried to do this they made ranked mode not use the system, and players got so mad they removed the p2w system all together. There is hope.

Pretty much every micro transaction game except Fortnite is pay to win nowadays. Fortnite actively changes items so they aren’t P2W, while games like this do the opposite

It was like 50 or more hours at average rates to get a 6300ip character, and you also needed to spend tens of thousands for runes that were even acceptable for champions. Considering that often the new shiny characters were blatantly gamebreaking and metachanging, especially in seasons 1/2/3, you HAD to play the rat race. It was either play forever to not get stomped, or shell out money. Pokemon Unite is P2W, but League is a terrible game to play while complaining about permanent upgrades.
Yea I played LOL in beta for a few years then off and on. Got tired of Release A new hero about every month with Skins, Make it OP so people spend $$$ nerf it in a few weeks new hero next month...and Never fix any real issues.
I have an item at level 10 with too many upgrades (and tickets to buy those upgrades) still leftover, all you have to do is the daily challenges. Every season you get at least 2k tickets too depending on your ranking (goes up by 2k), which is about 200 upgrade thingies. I'm sure it isn't as big as it seems, as long as you know which one to upgrade for your character, you can have a strong enough set of items to defend yourself in the early ranks. Long term, you only have to worry about maxing the important ones then you're set for life (or until they release a better item or nerf your characters). It is, of course, still stupid, but it's not as blown out as it sounds.

League of legends original rune system worked very similarly to this. They did eventually rework it to be completely free and non-progressive because the disadvantage it gave new players where they had to spend the resource to buy runes instead of new champions. Idk how the currency in this game works, but assuming you can indeed upgrade the items by just playing over a long course of time, it won’t affect the very high end competitive side of things much. That being said, they should still change this system for the same reasons riot changed the rune system.

As Neostorm said, it's actually Tencent, which is the Chinese mega corp who owns many things such as Riot Games/League of Legends if you didn't already know. Nintendo is at fault for signing off on it however, but evidently the game has been in the works for many years, and they were probably contractually unable to back out.

I don't remember what it was like early in the game's life But currently, you can level up the held items without having to pay. It does take time, but when u consider ranked, it kind of works out. It's still not great, but the held item upgrades you get only matter relative to how perfect your opponent plays. As you get higher in rank, if your crutch is only on the Stat boosts, you're gonna lose to a 5 stack of held items under lvl 20. In general if your opponents genuinely like the moba and learn the game and actually know how to do team plays, your held items don't matter

But he didn’t use it. So what I was saying is that he did all of that damage at such a low level, while he still had the option to increase his damage even further.
I'll just stop by and say that that isn't ridiculously high. A Wigglytuff Dazzling Gleam does about the same damage without a crit, granted, I believe that's level 6.

i grind this game frequently, due to a recent update anyone playing before mobile release (and i think some mobile players idk) got 3 special tokens that upgrade any item to grade 30 instantly. there is also a quest/task/event that gives 150-160 grade tokens for playing different roles (Support, attacker, speedster- so and so)
the pay to win aspect is still apparent but thanks to this update a lot more players can catch up.

Yeah game isn't pay to win anymore tbh. I am f2p reached masters and I started playing after mobile release. U can pay to get a very small tiny advantage but it doesn't guarantee win anymore.

As Silent Shadows said, old League Of Legends runes system was basically stat boosts that you would have to grind out influence points for. You also couldn't even use the whole page until you were max level (30 at the time).

Nah. We will be okay. Truly competitive games will not ever do this because it ruins competitive integrity. Who wants to grind a ranked mode when you can literally spend money to be better? Stuff like League lets you unlock more characters with real money as well as in game currency but most people only play a handful of champions anyway. Even when Paladins tried to do this they made ranked mode not use the system, and players got so mad they removed the p2w system all together. There is hope.

I'm not sure about anymore, but runes used to have significant opportunity cost in terms of new characters. It was like 50 or more hours at average rates to get a 6300ip character, and you also needed to spend tens of thousands for runes that were even acceptable for champions. Considering that often the new shiny characters were blatantly gamebreaking and metachanging, especially in seasons 1/2/3, you HAD to play the rat race. It was either play forever to not get stomped, or shell out money.
Pokemon Unite is P2W, but League is a terrible game to play while complaining about permanent upgrades.

I have an item at level 10 with too many upgrades (and tickets to buy those upgrades) still leftover, all you have to do is the daily challenges. Every season you get at least 2k tickets too depending on your ranking (goes up by 2k), which is about 200 upgrade thingies. I'm sure it isn't as big as it seems, as long as you know which one to upgrade for your character, you can have a strong enough set of items to defend yourself in the early ranks. Long term, you only have to worry about maxing the important ones then you're set for life (or until they release a better item or nerf your characters). It is, of course, still stupid, but it's not as blown out as it sounds.

League of legends original rune system worked very similarly to this. They did eventually rework it to be completely free and non-progressive because the disadvantage it gave new players where they had to spend the resource to buy runes instead of new champions. Idk how the currency in this game works, but assuming you can indeed upgrade the items by just playing over a long course of time, it won’t affect the very high end competitive side of things much.
That being said, they should still change this system for the same reasons riot changed the rune system.

As Neostorm said, it's actually Tencent, which is the Chinese mega corp who owns many things such as Riot Games/League of Legends if you didn't already know.
Nintendo is at fault for signing off on it however, but evidently the game has been in the works for many years, and they were probably contractually unable to back out.
I will say while the p2w part sucks it’s at least still a fun game that surprisingly doesn’t completely suck

But currently, you can level up the held items without having to pay.
It does take time, but when u consider ranked, it kind of works out.
It's still not great, but the held item upgrades you get only matter relative to how perfect your opponent plays.
As you get higher in rank, if your crutch is only on the Stat boosts, you're gonna lose to a 5 stack of held items under lvl 20.
In general if your opponents genuinely like the moba and learn the game and actually know how to do team plays, your held items don't matter
nobody cares, the game is still pay to win, its still a bad game and worst of all its a dead game.

@@endergirldragon there’s a moment in the video where he does somewhere around 1,150 damage to someone as a level 5.
He had the item “X attack” equipped, which increases your attack damage. But he didn’t use it.
So what I was saying is that he did all of that damage at such a low level, while he still had the option to increase his damage even further.

I'll just stop by and say that that isn't ridiculously high. A Wigglytuff Dazzling Gleam does about the same damage without a crit, granted, I believe that's level 6.

I don't wanna stand up for Nintendo here, but I'm pretty sure Tencent (a huge Chinese mobile developer known for stealing data, and huge P2W tactics) had full monetization over the game. It still baffles me that Nintendo, Game Freak, or the Pokemon Company allowed them to touch this game
99% sure tencent got involved here because they have a history of making games that bring in a lot of money and are heavily involved in LoL. Nintendo is still a company, and if you're gonna make a MOBA thats how to profit.

I'm f2p and if you hit the milestones of account level 10, 12 and 14 you get given an item that max lvl 30s a held item which if you keep with the same items gives you quite an advantage if you stick around for those milestones
