Isn't that such a cool view on the Witness' death though? A being of many consciousness' formed into one, referred to itself as "I" for the first time. Others can have their own views on why that is, but my favorite reason is because we broke that consciousness apart. And during its final moments, there was no longer a many amount of voices. All that was left hanging around by the end was a single voice until it too disappeared with the rest.

Everything is finally falling into place. .. And here come a school bus full of goblins with some bullets and space magic killing your entire army and breaking all your stuff and they're actually able to stop you? Yeah that'd make the mask slip just a little.
For real lmfao, that's probably the most visceral, primal rage that has ever been seen in Destiny history, and it absolutely fuckin shook me on my first Excision run
It knew it was on the verge of its death. We prevented the final shape in the raid and its escape to live severed its connection to the traveler. That’s why the raids description is “free the light” once we enter excision this is just us finishing it off, there is no winning here for it. The entire of sol is preventing its escape and its left in a final stand against 12 guardians
Right? I jumped into Excision right as it dropped and ended up getting that line. All that calm up until that point and I hear that SCREAM right before damage phase, gave me chills!

The confusion in his voice knowing we can hurt him reminds me of Unicron in the 1986 Transformers movie. Both are godlike beings, believed to be indestructible, only to be destroyed in the end
Funny you make the comparison between The Witness and Unicron, you're not off base. Couple years ago, folks in the TF fandom found the 1st draft for the 86 Transformers movie. In it, Unicron was still the final villain but his exact nature was a reveal for late in the movie. Instead of talking directly to Unicron, Megatron instead interacts with a being called "The Entity" that claims to be the caretaker of planet Unicron. I the 1st draft, it's The Entity that upgrades Megatron into Galvatron and sends him to earth to destroy the Autobots and harvest energy so that planet Unicron can break free of its current orbit and roam the universe to devour planets. Ever since details of this original draft of the movie came out, I've imagined what that version of the film would've looked like and in my head I hear The Entity speak with the same voice and cadence as The Witness.

Knowing that the voice actor for the Witness was the actor who played Agent Ward in Agents of SHIELD makes me smile, because he played such a cool charavter and villain. Only found that out recently.
And it’s ironic, because this was just a lie it was telling itself to hide the fact that in reality, they were driven by nothing more than their rage at the traveler, and their desire to destroy everything it ever cared about

It just appears as angry towards the end, or when it's goal is questioned (The nerve Calus pinched in Lightfall). If destruction was the purpose then, The Final Shape it was conducting would have looked more like erasure than reshaping.

I really think the Witness was executed pretty well as a villain. It has this aura of being calm, collected, entirely set in its purpose-- but under the surface, it is primal anger, forged from an existential crisis of an entire species and whose worst elements sought apotheosis. It has never once argued its philosophy, or its certainty that it is right. It is not a being, but a weapon powered by aeons of malice, inflicting the very suffering and abuse that it claims the Traveler brings. If it was capable of self-reflection, we could call it a hypocrite.
@@BoisegangGaming Yeah, I do however feel that the Witness wasn't given enough time to shine in Lightfall, because of that it seems they barely introduce the villain and its kinda rushed into the finale. Given the scale of the villain and the impact it warranted a bit more time.
But still the Witness was responsible for the billions of deaths in the collapse apocalypse, and not just our sol system but pretty much has happened to almost the entire universe, though I do wish we got more time for the Witness and in its perspective it’s whole goal was to end suffering, at this point the Witness really felt like a Thanos type of villain just with a few different things, but overall I think that the Witness was the most fitting overarching main antagonist for the epic finale we got for concluding the light and dark saga🙌👏

When we fight it in the raid it’s focused purely on enacting the final shape that’s only 4 minutes away. It sends its followers to try to halt us. The only time it fights back is when we momentarily break its hold on the traveler and it gives us a chance to hurt it. Without the traveler’s intervention we wouldn’t even be able to hurt it as during dps the plate gains “ surging light” allowing us to hurt it, that’s why at the end it can’t understand how we’ve hurt it

it was not "left alone" by the traveler, the traveler gave its people everything they wanted and they still craved something directly telling them what to do. to achieve this, they found the veil and began to dig around the traveler's guts the way the witness is doing it in tfs. the traveler left because it wouldn't allow them to hit the off switch on reality, i'd hardly call the witness or its people "wronged" by the traveler when the worst thing it did was just not say anything.
it wasn't alone in its' ideas. rhulk so far is the only one who was close enough with them and shared their concept of the final shape and so on (i kinda feel they had an enough-friendly dynamic, cause of votd's armor lore tabs). but he died, so... if rhulk was still alive, he'd definetely stay till the end but yes, it's kind of sad to think about, honestly i can understand both the traveler and humanity's point and the witness's point in the plot

"We - I - I don't understand." I love that line. I don't know why. It feels emotional in a way. He's genuinely confused, even despairing, in his final moments that we didn't just quietly go along with his design and raised our hand against him. He tried multiple times to convince us, and everyone else, that his way was right, but the universe teamed up to stop him. At the end of it, he's just wondering why it all fell apart. So perfect final words for the final villain of the Saga.
Because, depending on your scope of the scale of the universe, The Witness' goals make sense. At some point, everything *will* be still, with nothing ever happening, the heat death of the universe. The Witness sees this, and thinks "let's prevent this from happening, and allow a form of eternal life for everything that does exist." You have to remove yourself from seeing individuality and the massive (massive) timescale for the heat death to occur for it to make sense.

Tbf by the time we reach the pale heart it has mostly full control of the the pale heart. Its rooted it’l self deep into the traveller has a massive monolith overlooking it and has the traveler itself trapped. Tho as it says this it’s lost and thr traveler is actively empowering the entire of sol to kill it

In the last mission, he sounds like he no longer likes you. But in salvation's edge he still wants you to be your friend. even after you nearly destroy him, he still says that The Final Shape still has a place for you. But then in Excision, he wants you dead. Hate that they removed the "we are in need of a God Killer"
It never wanted us to be its friend. It promises salvation with decorated words and those became more desperate as it is unable to feel doubt thats why it says what it does, but it could felt fear. What it sees as salvation and what that is to us differ. Just because I keep saying words that make you feel good while taking away the things you value one by one doesnt make me somebody you feel inclined to make a friend of. "We are not your friend, we are not your enemy, we are your...salvation"
Originally it wanted us to give up and accept the final shape. By the point of final shape it’s desperate. It knows we have on goal and it’s to kill it. We’ve killed everything it’s used to try prevent us from geting to it, as we fight it during the raid instead of fighting back it tries to just enact the final shape instead. By exiscion it tried to escape the pale heart even cutting itself in half severing itself from the traveler. we intercepted it and it was pinned down just outside its monolith. It looks to the sky to see thousands of ships in a fleet coming to aid in its death. All it’s got left is fear. 12 guardians and the entire of sol along with the traveler actively fighting it was already dead it just didn’t know it

It's not attacking you outside of DPS because it thinks you're not a worthy opponent, it's actually just TOO preoccupied trying to finally end the universe and when DPS phase comes around it's the Witness fighting back in the way of saying "enough of this bullshit, get the actual FUCK out of my way you WILL not stop me and I'm going to make sure you won't". @@10THPROPHET Rhulks arrogance killed him nezarecs relentlessness got him killed. The witness learned from Both and seen the only way to win being enacting the final shape. During dps it switches up its dialogue. Usually after a first one it says something like “the final shape still has a place for you” but if you nearly 1 phase or 3 phase it tends to say “THIS WILL BE DONE” shows how the more the fight goes on the more pissed off and genuinely scared the witness becomes. It may be at its most powerful here but Also its most vulnerable. The only place we could hurt it before freeing the light

The Witness is panicking this entire fight because it is trying so hard to enact the final shape and it's getting more pissed off as you keep interrupting it incessantly. The guardians are also panicking since they know that oblivion is merely minutes away and are fighting for their lives to finally cut the Witness off from the Traveler. Strangely enough, it wasn't cocky or sadistic, it was *afraid*. I believe the guardians were absolutely afraid too but their fear was what made them fight to the end. The Witness was losing its mind in its fight during SE, knowing that a group of unstoppable demigods who it tried to recruit now could possibly put an end to its destructive plan. And surprise, we did since as Guardians do not, and never will, give up.
@@equinoxruinouseffigy7856 In the main campaign on the IMDB it is listed as three actors. (Ikora's, Savathün's, and Mara's) For TFS and some of the dialogue in Salvation's Edge and Excision they use Brett's voice with heavy modification and Ikora's VA does the voice of the female dissenters.
No lol it's just 1 guy. Brett Dalton is the voice actor for the witness. The goat sound designers at bungie used stuff like echo, and changing the pitch to make it sound like many people.
In the first cutscene (the one with the apple kid) it sounds pretty much the same as Lightfall. I assume, as we progress further and further into thwarting the Final Shape it gets less and less collected. Also, as we release dissenters, its voice becomes less "crowded" and more defined, less whispers in it. You simply hear its later phase voice more often replaying endgame content so it may feel like it's different.
Just ran this mission on my Titan (last of my characters to do the campaign), and the Witness was absolutely FURIOUS the whole time. On my Warlock and Hunter, it seemed calmer, but this time it just continuously screamed at us. Especially that epic line at 7:12. Witness: "We. Will. Not. YIELD!" Me: "Well neither will I, sweetcheeks, so somebody's going to be disappointed . . ."
But the witness could never understand is that even with light or dark the universe is a constantly changing thing and no matter how hard some things try to change that chaos and change will always ensure that things move forward and evolve, as is the way of the universe

It seems as though the masculine voice is the "main" voice and it comes through when it's rattled. When it offers "godhood" to us as a Disciple and Ghost mocks the idea, the masculine voice immediately drowns out the usual echoed voice.

@@adamboy0559 Yeah that's interesting during SE the Witness isn't being cocky like Rhulk or unhinged like Nezarec. It's not attacking you outside of DPS because it thinks you're not a worthy opponent, it's actually just TOO preoccupied trying to finally end the universe and when DPS phase comes around it's the Witness fighting back in the way of saying "enough of this bullshit, get the actual FUCK out of my way you WILL not stop me and I'm going to make sure you won't". Very interesting
@@10THPROPHET Rhulks arrogance killed him nezarecs relentlessness got him killed. The witness learned from Both and seen the only way to win being enacting the final shape. During dps it switches up its dialogue. Usually after a first one it says something like “the final shape still has a place for you” but if you nearly 1 phase or 3 phase it tends to say “THIS WILL BE DONE” shows how the more the fight goes on the more pissed off and genuinely scared the witness becomes. It may be at its most powerful here but Also its most vulnerable. The only place we could hurt it before freeing the light
@@adamboy0559 The Witness' boss fight screams desperation from both parties too. The Witness is panicking this entire fight because it is trying so hard to enact the final shape and it's getting more pissed off as you keep interrupting it incessantly. The guardians are also panicking since they know that oblivion is merely minutes away and are fighting for their lives to finally cut the Witness off from the Traveler.
Strangely enough, it wasn't cocky or sadistic, it was *afraid*. I believe the guardians were absolutely afraid too but their fear was what made them fight to the end. The Witness was losing its mind in its fight during SE, knowing that a group of unstoppable demigods who it tried to recruit now could possibly put an end to its destructive plan. And surprise, we did since as Guardians do not, and never will, give up.

@@equinoxruinouseffigy7856 In the main campaign on the IMDB it is listed as three actors. (Ikora's, Savathün's, and Mara's) For TFS and some of the dialogue in Salvation's Edge and Excision they use Brett's voice with heavy modification and Ikora's VA does the voice of the female dissenters.

Why is his voice different from his voice in lightfall and final shape campaign?Either way it sounds fucking great
Just a personal theory as to why, but I think it's cause one of the precursors (or a few) took charge when some of the dissenters were shattered.
This is his voice when he transforms into his big form. Before that, his voice is the same as it's always been.
In the first cutscene (the one with the apple kid) it sounds pretty much the same as Lightfall. I assume, as we progress further and further into thwarting the Final Shape it gets less and less collected. Also, as we release dissenters, its voice becomes less "crowded" and more defined, less whispers in it. You simply hear its later phase voice more often replaying endgame content so it may feel like it's different.

I love this dialogue the witness in english audio so i hope if there is french audio for salvation edge and excision dialogue for this lines.

Just ran this mission on my Titan (last of my characters to do the campaign), and the Witness was absolutely FURIOUS the whole time. On my Warlock and Hunter, it seemed calmer, but this time it just continuously screamed at us. Especially that epic line at 7:12.
Witness: "We. Will. Not. YIELD!"
Me: "Well neither will I, sweetcheeks, so somebody's going to be disappointed . . ."
But the witness could never understand is that even with light or dark the universe is a constantly changing thing and no matter how hard some things try to change that chaos and change will always ensure that things move forward and evolve, as is the way of the universe

During the campaign we destroyed several of the main voices that it speaks with, after which it loses the layered voice.
@@AstridTheBee that's what I thought too. But right after we injure it in the campaign, it speaks in many voices again in the cutscene immediately after. And even before then, it seems to speak in a single voice when it's angry

@@cooper8413 it's most likely there's a leading member in it's collection of minds. With the most aggressive and primal of their voices being the strongest with it's ultimate form.
It seems as though the masculine voice is the "main" voice and it comes through when it's rattled. When it offers "godhood" to us as a Disciple and Ghost mocks the idea, the masculine voice immediately drowns out the usual echoed voice.
