Modern cars have too much aero. 😞 Back in the day they used every trick as well, but honestly, dirty air is significantly reducing other cars ability to get close to the car in front of them.
So glad the British still run these races and allow the public watch these valuable cars run like they are supposed to. In America the rich hoard their cars and most events are private or only rich can afford to attend. The small vs large races are my favorites. Reminds me of my childhood my town ran vintages car races

There are historic racing series in America, Goodwood covered the Monterey Car Week races at Laguna/Weather Tech. But to my knowledge, nobody else puts on such a weekend like this packed with crazy car, crazier racing, and awesome vintage atmosphere
I am a 60 years old race enthusiast, I have watched all types of racing since many years , nowadays Goodwood classic races are the ones I enjoy the most. Many thanks to who ever is responsible in organising this great event.
Brilliant illustration of the advantages of power vs weight. The Plymouth pulls away on the straight, the mini and the Alfa catch up every where else. Neither is “better” but it leads to amazing racing.
Heck of a race, I'll say. Awesome to see the match up between cars that are actually *different* compared to these days where that's not easy to find. And while I am a Plymouth boy through and through... they sure enough don't turn all that well compared to some things. 🤣
Is there any kind of racing that's more pure FUN to watch than old big and small-bore cars mixing it up? I don't think so. You know every driver was having an absolute blast too.
Watch pre war footage racing here at this channel. Thats awesome older than 110 yr old cars with sometimes over 200 HP aviation engines...no brakes thin tires...
Outstanding St Mary's Trophy. Remember, Alfa 1.6 GTs had dual circuit, twin servo, four wheel disc brakes. Helped a lot, despite 1/3 of the power of the V8s. Max speed of a standard road car was only about 125 at 6,700rpm in 5th.

Amazing racing. I'm always pleasantly surprised how beautifully prepared and perfect the race cars look at the start. Equally surprised that drivers get so close and don't worry about a few scratches.

I've just discovered this channel and I'm loving it! I've owned a number of American muscle cars in my lifetime but my favorite car is my Jaguar XJs with the Chevy V8 conversion. I'm now thinking of looking for a Ford Galaxy to restore!
So much fun to watch the whole race. I especially appreciate the V8 noise, and overall speed. It’s equally amazing how much speed those minis carry through a corner.
@@DontCryAboutIt Nothing gets away from the mass difference though and circuit racing in the UK generally doesn't have long straights. Unlike NASCAR, British saloon car racing was almost exclusively on courses like Goodwood that started as the perimeter roads on airfields with chicanes and infield sections included to vary the track layout. Much of the European racing was on road courses that took in twisty sections so mass and handling were important for all classes. That the big cars, particularly so the Galaxie does so well at Goodwood is testament to the work done on a very few specifically for British saloon car racing by Holmann and Moody.
@@1240enzo l agree. I think the Alfa's a better car for this course. Really impressive. It almost looked effortless. On the other hand, the Cuda driver was really driving hard, slipping sideways around every corner; pushing it to the edge. Very impressive driving, l thought. But Roman in the Galaxy probably had the fastest run. Starting behind and finishing up with a bumper length off 2nd place. The power of the Ford on the straight was amazing. The 5 speed tranny and rear gear box were aluminum. 4 wheel disc brakes. Solid as as a rock. Very quick, agile and fast. It wanted to cruise at 110 mph. 😂
