  • 22.08.20 Tim and Pete in the Caterham 620R driving the 12.9 mile Nordschleife, Nurburgring track.
This was Tim's first ever passenger lap of the Nordschleife, needless to say he did several more laps with Pete (the driver) that unfortunately I didn't manage to get video footage of.
This lap was around 8mins 23seconds BTG with 2 adults on board, an average speed of 90+ mph and top speed of 150+ mph.
Pete has faster Nurburgring lap times but the amount of traffic and yellow flags (track incidents) are always an issue and slow his laps during Touristfahten.
Nothing passed the orange speed machine on this lap!
Apologies for the Go Pro wind noise, you might want to turn the volume down!

That is a shocking machine. I think it's a modern version of the Lotus 7. Colin Chapman was doing an amazing job with handling all the way back. I saw very little body roll in the corners, and the car was sprung perfectly for that speed and that track. Really enjoyable to watch - thanks for posting it.

This man has really excellent driving technique.
He was observing the movement of the vehicle in front of him and overtaking it safely. This is the skill of an experienced driver!
Lightweight, high-output sports cars are prone to nervous behaviour at high speeds, but the driver kept the car stable with excellent braking while maintaining a safe trajectory to avoid such dangerous situations.
Even more impressive is the agile and precise way in which the Caterham Seven moves. It's amazing how lightweight it is, which allows it to accelerate to another dimension. And because it's lightweight, there's no need for stiff dampers, so there's no bouncing behaviour and it's very supple. I have rediscovered the beauty of a lightweight sports car.

A caterham 620 is called "620" because it has 620 hp per ton (it actually has 310 hp for 500kg) That is better power to weight ration than even the fastest hyper cars. Which means it really IS ridiculously fast.

They do have to keep right , when I was last there we came round a bend to find a biker lying in the middle of track …..it’s a dangerous place 5 mins later 3 guys stoved an e46 m3 and were standing right in the understeer off point , our driver German 2500 laps got out and got them other side of the Armco , doing 140mph in m3 we got overtaken by a gt3 that was itself being overtaken by a corvette zr1 on the gantry straight , it truly is the Wild West

Having seen the number of bikes that come off I'm glad that i didn't take mine on. The surface on the racing line has been worn so smooth, & in the wet it's faster & a lot safer to go round the outside of the bends. This biker did just fine.

Lol, these are road tyres on the Nordschleife track as its classed as a public road in Germany (your vehicle has to be road legal to go on it). In the UK we do Track Days at several different circuits and Pete uses racing tyres (slicks) which give even more grip and traction!
