200k and blown motors and still gotta make payments.
If my engine blew, I'd call morgan and morgan.
size matters ;}
Well said,Leadfoot😂
Lmao
Cool, then call Morgan & Sons racing engines and do it right😁
They wouldn’t even take the case as there’s not enough money for them in getting someone a new engine. They do personal injury where they can rip off the insurance companies..
This has always been an issue when cars have 10gs of acceleration. The centrifugal force pushes the oil to the back of the oil pan, starving to pump. No oil means BANG.
Surely the smooth brains that designed that engine used a dry sump system?
10gs is rocket ship territory. 11,000hp top fuel goes 5gs at launch.
@@Hammerback972 No, because they are cheap junk. Even some of the (cheaper) GM cars have dry sump lmao.
The car doesn’t have 10g’s of acceleration. It doesn’t even have 2g’s to match the space shuttle launch. Plain and simple the car is piece of junk.
They cook em in a drag, then idle them waiting for the next one. Those Hemi's don't lubricate the lifters at idle. So a few back to back runs could do some real damage to the engine.
Here is what it is. They changed the engine geometry without changing the oil cooling. By raising the camshaft to reduce rotational weight they blocked the splash that was supposed to lubricate the lifters at idle.
Tony's garage went over this in detail for the 3rd gen Hemi's.
Yeah the lifter lubrication... I tore my 06 Magnum R/T apart thinking I had trashed cam and lifters. It's not as dire as being reported. My cam and lifters looked factor fresh little to no wear with 160k miles on it. Lottsa of stop and go traffic to boot. It's more about oil change interval being to long. Turned out my timing chain was eating itself.
The first Demon didn't have an oilling issue. I think the oil pump thats being used is not strong enough to keep the engine lubricated
My father has one these, I will be certain let him about this escalating issue.
@patrickradcliffe3837 my 2021 Ram Limited Night Edition, has a FACTORY recommended oil change interval of 10k miles...
Just stop there is absolutely a design issue no one else is tracking idle time as a BIG factor in when your shit fails......
Supposedly the hottest fix now is hellcat or the NEW melling oil pump which provides more oil pressure at idle since the lifters aren't properly lubricated due to design flaw....
Do you know how many damn 5.3l/6.0L LS engines I've torn down witj over 250k miles still having cross hatch in the bores with a clean up, gap and hold 800whp? I see them at 300k in tahoes all the time running....I already know my shit ain't gonna make it 300k without new cam and lifters lol....I put the longest mopar warranty on it I could I'm finally in the 60k range...seems like most go about 65-90k or they make it 150-170k
Stop!!!! I own a redeye and the 2018 Demon and Hellcats were designed to run back to back ... No issues.... I have my FBO on redeye pushing high 800's to the wheels without issues ... The Demon 170 has a design issue from the factory because dodge even admitted to blowing engines.... It's not a hemi issue.... The Hemi has been a proven engine for decades
Well that's 11 blown. The downside of this is that only a couple hundred customers have even driven their car at this point. Super low miles for everyone. As they begin to be driven the problems are going to grow. If you buy one today with this knowledge you have to be a borderline idiot knowing it's may have a high probability of blowing and then sitting for an extended period. Let them find a solution before you shell out 130K.
After everything said and done you will be made whole for every dollar spent and a free car with the leamond laws depending on state
Remember during testing they had trouble with the engines blowing. It's a known fact. That alone had me wondering 😮. I can get some service department prospective from my friends dealership. I'll ask their opinion on what's happening next time I go in...
Wont be numbers matching after they replace the engine. The value will further tank
Excellent point. Double whammy
There was a problem when Dodge was developing the Demon. That was probably one of the reasons they were limited to 149MPH.
I think they have an oil slosh problem because they launch so hard and the wheelies , need a different oil pan / pickup , maybe dry sump
That a 100-200k car doesn't have a dry sump is just laughable. My Ls3 powered S2000 track car has one for a damn reason.
Another quality Dodge car.
The brand name tells you to avoid it ie to dodge. Demon of the devil, a know and infamous liar. The 170 should be 211 CA penal code for robbery.
Its something about the oil is not getting enough oil racerx said you are right sell them before the market crashes on them
...and they would lose the engine/chassis matching numbers. Therein is big value for the orig. purchaser
Dodge state’s they don’t stamp the vin on the block anymore. We have replaced a few SRT engines over the years. We’ve all looked and found no vin#. Same with transmission’s. I’ve looked. I always was told it was a federal requirement.
It's a Dodge folks! Why are y'all so surprised??
Dodge is the only American manufacturer that's putting out monster power as a standard
When have an engine that creates that kind of rpms and torque, the G-force can cause oiling problems during acceleration. They probably should go to a dry-sump oiling system. I would never run any car with 1,000 plus horsepower on regular oiling systems!
How about at least a baffle?
The problem starts with the fact that it’s a dodge. You don’t see this problem the Camaro exorcist or resurrection. What do they have in common? Oh yeah not a dodge…
Bet I know the reason why, in the demon 170 videos they talked about how weight shift was a big thing, with it all being designed to go in the back when you stepped on it, hence why they penalized the sunroof cars that moved the CG back to normal so badly as they didnt want people to buy them, and I bet the oil pickup system is still at the front of the sump, so when the weight shifts, it starves it and burns up a bearing
all things they would know how to deal with if they had done their research and looked into LS restomods and detomaso pantera's that had that problem back in the day given where the engine was and how the G's were moving in the back of the car
let alone the GT40 project with its medium riser V8 that had a custom deep dish oil pan for this very reason
hence why for autoracing and cars like that they have three mods, a deeper baffled oil pan, to trap the oil where you need it, the pickup is moved to where the G's are and the oil sits
and an accusump to squirt oil into the motor under high G cornering
or you switch to Dry Sump, which the car doesnt have, which also the NSX didnt have and has this very same problem, unless you put some valve cover breathers in to balance out the pressure and keep in constant given honda's V tec system that the car has
also this things supercharged so it might need those.
as you can really tell, mopar is not a performance brand as this is all amateur hour type sh''it anyone worth their salt would have known
also I love how they want you to change the oil after every run with E85 apparently, as I think its time y'all bought a ford
given how well that 5.4 GT500 Hoovie bought held up despite its abuse.
and that was supercharged, and I dont even like the thing, I always thought they were a cheap stylistic knock off of a better car
but I guess I was wrong, they were good cars underneath
Facts! Mopar boy really think Dodge is a marvel of performance because of their hellfats, hellfat thirdeye bullseye pinkeye, super b-, black hoaxes and lemon149s. This demon is not well engineered at all. They just shoehorned their “helephant” crate motor and add some drag goodies to this old fart mercedes platform. Need for speed engineering I would say.
What a bunch of amateur nonsense. Way out of your wheelhouse attempting to contribute to this discussion. Please delete.
I am tired of the Roman gladiator death of Mopar! This Brand used to be a Giant in our auto industry!!!
Then it was sold to fiat. Everyone in Europe knows fiat is junk.
When ? Dodge always sucked they was only good in the early 70s late 60s .. after that they was maki g economy cars that was junk .. in 2005 they made a come back but was still no where near ford or Chevy .. the current scars and hellcats only got popular because they offered a 4 door automatic v8 powered sedan cheap and affordable to poor ppl .. when dealer Markups put them at the price of the competition they sit on dealer lots
Morgan and Morgan secured me a substantial settlement; just waiting on the check!
OMG THANKS TK for keeping us informed! That’s F-ing NUTZ 11 cars go bang, not good.
That's wild 😮11 cars . They gonna be more for sure watch what I say . don't be surprised if they do a full recall.and nice video thxs for informing us
They ll use all the excuses they can not to honor the warranty. Now it won t be easy to sell em as not many are gonna wanna spend CRAZY $$ for a car that may pop.
They can’t deny the warranty. It’s on video at the launch party Tim K stated the car comes with a full warranty. What the car is designed to do. Drag race.
If you think about it...the fact that they offer ANY warranty on them is INSANE. Nobody else would build such a machine with a warranty then sell them to 'joe average' consumer who will abuse the crap out of them then complain that they 'blew up'. People who build their own race cars don't abuse them like all of these RUclips creators are doing. They change the oil after every track outing and don't expect them to be trouble free no matter how they're treated.
Whomever at Dodge who made the decision to include a warranty is an idiot. These should have been 'special drag package' cars without warranty if raced. I don't feel sorry for the stupid company or the stupid people who bought them and are having trouble with them....like you couldn't see this coming?
Time to call Morgan & Morgan!!
Good thing I’m a poor with a 2019 f150 ecoboost and will never have to worry about a 170 😅
The timing is perfect, the c8zr1 is about to come out in 2025 and then the s650 gt500 is coming out in 2026. All the moparornocar guys about to switch over.
YU SHOULD A BOUGHT A C8 Z06 ! THAT'S YOUR LESSON TODAY !!
They blow up too, one blew up at 52 miles. Look it up.
I passed on my Demom 170 order and bought a C7 ZR1 instead. Best decision I ever made.
C8S are trash DOHC IS GARBAGE
They are man made too they do blow up too
I could live with buying a Ford (Mustang GT), but never a Chevy. I've driven several Chevs (friends' cars, test drives, even a few rentals when a Chev was all I could get) and none of them "felt right" to me. I get the same red flags when driving anything built by Honda (except their motorbikes -- they're pretty decent).
Maybe there will be 170 blown engines
or 1025
I do not know of a 1000hp engine that can run multiple runs down a track and not break. Idk. I doubt Dodge made one that would go 40,000 miles of track abuse without blowing. Honestly, I never heard of one, and people will drop 250,000 into a power train for race.
Or, are they blowing up under normal conditions? 🤔
I bet an all motor 1000hp engine would last hellishly long with a dry sump setup lol.
This is crazy being they delayed the debut because of engine issues. Thanks for backing me up, people are questioning how many are bad and they can’t find it on the internet. 😂
The value of the demon is going to fall.
At least TK being honest and fair and telling you like it is, I can appreciate the content
Mabie they should have been a dry sump oil supply.
RacerX's Demon blew up, too. According to him (and by extention, Stelantis), if you set up and operate/care for the car *per the instructions* they will warranty the car because let's face it, Dodge advertised "and built" a car designed to be taken to the track and not only that, to be hot lapped (run over and over) with chiller system et. al. to keep it running. You don't build an 8 second, "Plaid killer" and not expect people to race them. Hard... At the track.
The ONE thing Dodge claims is their strong point: Straight Line. And they’re blowing it.🙄
It's a beautiful car.
When you build a car that does 1.6 0 to 60 you better design a way to keep plenty of oil at the pick up tube or you will have oil starvation . the car also comes off the ground leaning back causing the oil to go to the rear of the oil pan .
Let's start at the beginning. How long has the 6.2L engine in the Hellcat been around? It's been in Jeeps, Durangos, Chargers, and Challengers. Those all ran on pump gas IE 91 or 93 octane at around 15 psi boost. The Demon 170 runs 22 psi, hence why they upgraded to billet main caps and head studs. Anytime you make more boost, you increase cylinder pressure. I don't see any reason why the engineer's would make any changes to the oiling system on the Demon 170 in regards to oil pump, pickup, or oil pan. People have been turning up the boost on Hellcats forever, and there wasn't a pattern of failed engines. This car should not be run on 91 or 93 octane if you plan on going WOT, it should run on E85 only. 14 - 15 psi should be the max boost pressure for the above stated pump gas. If you detonate an engine, it's going to knock the bearings out of the engine. I only ran 1 tank of pump gas in my Demon 170 before I switched to E85. Knock on wood. I've made over 25 full pulls up to the speed limiter. I just changed the oil and cut open the filter and it's mint. These failures could have been from engines that experienced detonation from lack of octane or engine misfires from the Champion spark plugs. We don't know enough about each case to make the assumption that there is a design problem. We need more information in regards to the failures the engineers had in testing. You obviously have resources. Why don't you try to find out what was causing the failures and what the solution was?
So your saying the OEM plugs are a problem? If so, shouldn't there be a TSB to bring the cars in and have all 16 plugs changed to the correct plug?
Hard to believe any car manufacturer is putting Champion plugs in _any_ car, let alone the 170. Champions have always been one of the cheapest plugs you could buy. According to the Demon forums, a lot of 170 owners are ditching the OEMs for NGK iridiums. For the price of a 170, it should have come with high-quality iridiums. SMH.
Wow that’s crazy hope they can fix the problem.
Dodge is smart they knew the engine would blew up that's why they had a mark up on them they new it would cost more money so they don't mind replacing the engine you paid for it already. Give them time to make it right on your second engine. The engine was rushed. They will be more. The people who just keep them in the garage will not be able to sell them. The demon will be like 2000 cobra all recalled.
The writing is indeed on the wall. It says amongst other things, that you should be sure to join the coming lawsuits early.
TK I will tell ya what’s gonna happen. The 170 engines are crap. Now fast forward to 3 years from now after the manufactures warranty has expired. Who on earth is gonna buy a used 170 which is infamous for its sub par motor without any factory warranty. Guess what’s gonna happen to the used market prices of that thing ???
Racerx is getting a new spanking engine. I mean the oil pump, and transmission might be dead, but that new engine will be not matching serial numbers, if you care about that type of thing. 😂
Dodge needs to be sued.
Why are you forgo buying it, esp if your getting it a little under sticker ? What are you worried about, It will have the warranty. Keep it till that runs out
Already bought it. Just won't be keeping it. Not worth the risk.
with such a violent launch I wonder if the oil pump is starving for a few seconds?
Bought a T/A Scatpack few years back and saved $100K for a 170...Stellantis now hiring engineers from Brazil, Mexico and India. My next new muscle car won't be from Dodge.
I can tell you I am very happy to have my ‘23 Mopar Edition Charger with a little ole naturally aspirated 392 ci push rod V8. It puts a smile on my face and I most likely don’t need to worry about this stuff. To pay that much money and potentially be sitting on a ticking time bomb. No thanks. And even after an engine swap or massive mechanical issues….where does the value of the car go then? I will tell you where….lose your shirt in the tank. Some don’t care as they maybe have money to burn. I don’t. Good luck to all the 170 owners.
Come on guys, it's a 6-figure Stellantis product..... Is anybody really surprised?
There's a pretty well known oiling issue to the camshaft and lifters..
I have an excellent question. How many Challenger Demon 170 that have delivery miles in private collections with the same defect? After all, you’ll never know when this defect will show up until you drive these vehicles as they were designed too. I just did some quick math if all 11 demon 170 needed engine replacement at $30,000 that is $330,000 just for those 11 cars. I hope that FCA has some sort of manufacturing insurance to cover their loss.
Maybe they're like a top fuel dragster they need between round maintenance
Yeah, some say change the oil after every track visit regardless of how many passes
I’ve got a question I have not heard answered so anybody that is looking to collect one of these cars and preserve it or whatever how long will still Lantis or dodge or whoever owns them at that point support a platform that is not been manufactured in years? Or what happens if dodge goes out of business where is the support
If I had one, I'd lean HARD on it over and over to make sure I got a fix even if it takes them months...
These people barely driving them then get em out when out of warranty are gonna be real screwed get your cars out and hammer them...
Hemis always had low oil pressure issues .. they used to start ticking when u let them idle too long now they blow up .. the hemi was always trash that’s why they stop making them
You know that professional race cars and off shore bost racers refresh ( change ) the motors after each race . Take your car to the track on weekends, and think it"s your daily driver also, you will be dissapointed . Dodge wrote a check they cannot cover .
With the 2018 Demon, Dodge did 5000 passes and didn't rush with the design and build. With the 170, in my opinion, it seemed kind of rushed, maybe?
Need my Oldsmobile dealer to come back!!
Better ls swap them junk ass mopars
Most of them won't even be driven hard enough to find out.😂
Believe the industy standard for engine failure is 2 or 3 percent...so 100 failures or so for 3300 would be about normal
nice! wish i could afford one just to see if it could hold up 😂
Racerx his demon 170 just blew metal shaving all in the oil
I’m holding on getting one. I’ve got the MSRP cash ready to go.
It makes me wonder if the engines need a longer break-in period than the currently specified 1500 miles.
Demonology Demon is running great
So are you saying in all your video's that we should buy other brands?
What!!! Not good news that’s for sure I thought RacerX was a fluke.
Yep!!!
is it possible the ones blowing up could be the ones sitting since 2022
Imagine being surprised that tuning an engine to its physical limits would result in damage. 😂
Mo money, mo problems!
If I pushed my LS3 that hard it would blow as well. They're no bullet proof.
😂😂😂 investment cars. You’ll be able to get one for under $100k in a year. More problems will surface
They’ll probably do a recall??
this just made the original demon more valuable
11 engines! That’s not good.
They might be worth more if the engine numbers don’t match , just saying !
Wow
Racer X motor went south
Waisted money on developing the D170 engine same with the helophant engine this cash they come have designed a new v8 or new hemi
What, a car that's meant to be drag raced, the highest horsepower car you can buy, has issues?! No! Dodge dropping the ball?
NO!
Well thank god they have been making the same basic car and engines for YEARS and they have it all figured out.... What... The completely changing everthing to toasters... 😂 Oh.. Oh.. 😢
Lets be real making 1000hp outta a 6.2 no matter how strongly built isn't gonna an engine that has long life to it if you getting on it which likely most time people drive it like they stole it.
no wonder hennessey offers a service to take out the whole engine for a HO twin turbo beast! lol.
What else would you expect out of a Mopar boat anchor...?! Stick with Chevy, and your rods will continue to be connecting...!!!
luxury car for rich collectors
What the hell is a demon 170.
i’ve said this, the Demon149 isn’t well engineered. Too much for a mesozoic era chassis. Dodge proudly said they grenaded a handful of demon149 upon testing before the reveal.
The 2018 DEMON will ALWAYS be the king
11 out of how many?
3301 cars built ........ id say 99 % will stay under 10 miles or never go to the trac
Ah maybe a hundred have actually been tracked or driven any significant miles. They are all sitting in storage waiting to be sold for 250K.
Thats 11 out of the ones actually being driven, imagen all the people sitting in these to flip them!
What i find crazy is people have made 1000whp on the 2.4 hellcats for years! Some people not just putting a couple passes im talking putting thousands of miles in between passes lol
Thinking it was a rushed job
Wait a minute... I thought Racing a car, Voided the warranty??? Putting it on a off road track and racing it! VOIDED the Warranty!!! Thats the Way it is with most Manufactures. Doge included!!!
Not on a demon 170 that’s designed to do what it’s doing.
If you can afford 250k for the car I’m sure you can afford to replace the engine.
Are are getting Rid of yours Like you said cut your losses 😢
Slowpar has always been garbage. This is unsurprising.
Drift On Down Garage Empty
The demon 170 still got engine problems 11 cars got engine problems 🤣🤣🤣
I was just about to sell my 2002 Camry for a Demon 170. This changes everything.
Lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This will shut dodge down.
Dodge is going to go under really soon
Rich peoples problems.
What were you expecting when you buy a fake muscle car. lol
Are u hot?
had mopar addicts snapping on me saying those engines had some glaring design flaws... called me every name in the book even though i owned a 1st edition srt8 challenger in 09.... one of the first batches of hellcats i bought eventually traded it in for a c7 z06 corvette. I just got tired of those engine design flaws with their idle. Made me so mad i traded my srt8 for the hellcat. I miss that 6.1 hemi more than any hellcat call me crazy idc. I would take a 5.7 or 6.1 before hellcat engine or 6.4 respectfully. the torque and reliability of both are even stronger than my LT4 motors on my c7 z06 and c8 z06. My c6 texas speed engine is the only one thats stronger than them but clearly thats billet made with diamond pistons and what not. But to spend what i spent on my c8 z06 and only able to drive it 90% less than my corvette just to blow up the engine in that short time?
We don’t need a novel
