If you ever get a message that one of your cylinders is misfiring, and if your car has an ignition coil on each spark plug, the absolute easiest test you can run is to swap that ignition coil with another ignition coil, then run the code scanner again. If the misfire has moved to that other cylinder, you have a bad ignition coil. Easy fix. Just make sure you know how the cylinders are numbered before you start swapping ignition coils.

That’s funny. I had an E46 (2003 BMW 325xi) and the fuel pump started to go. There was no check engine light for it at that time. I just gassed up one day and the car refused to start. However, a rubber mallet tapped to the underside of the gas tank got it going. Since it was winter, I drove it another 6 weeks keeping a rubber mallet in my car until it failed in mid-drive (up a mountain so that was scary - I rolled backwards but since I just passed an outdoor shooting range, I “steered” it the best I could into the opening to the range). The job to replace it meant dropping the whole gas tank to replace the part (part was cheap, but the job was awful). When it failed, we had a 6inch sheet of ice to work on for about 4+ hours (February in the mountains of NJ). The problem was it was my only car and I relied on a BMW with over 100,000 miles on it. After that gem I downgraded that car to a weekend car that I didn’t need to rely on to get to work. I shutter at the thought of failing fuel pumps.
Scotty, can you tell me if American mechanics are using oscilloscopes to diagnose automotive problems? If so, what’s the percentage of mechanics using it? Thanks George V
Yeah I’ve had my grand am check engine light on for over 1 years and a half now, ever since I replaced the engine on it the check engine light just won’t go out I mean it runs fine. But I try to get my mechanic to do some codes on it. He clears some codes and it never goes away. I can tell I need a new water pump probably because of the whining… Grand ams are very reliable and the 3400 is no joke, with right mods the thing screams!. It’s just I need to change my transmission soon. It slips it’s very rough and gear and that’s the only issue I have. I’ve had the car for a long time only started doing this in the last 6 months
@@gordocarbo yeah. Despite those issues, I can still drive it every day if I just baby it. I just can’t go on far trips, especially it struggles uphill. I will say Lucas oil helped a ton for the tranny fluid. When I first got it, I had to put a new engine in it. I had multiple head, gaskets blown when I bought it, engine temp would go all the way to 360. It wasn’t good, but luckily I got it replaced. Then some genius pulled out in front of me and I couldn’t put the brakes on in time because they just randomly pulled out in front of me and I crashed into them and basically totaled it. Well, they were at fault their insurance company deemed it, but I didn’t want it totaled. So I got together with my mechanic and I rebuilt the whole front end myself. My insurance company didn’t really give me a hard time, but I got it fixed. Had to buy a whole, but luckily the frame wasn’t damaged and there was no other internal issues. Like I said, I know I need a water pump as well. It whines like crazy but like I said it’ll still get you point a to point B
An electric plane's battery weighs just as much when the plane takes off as it does at the end of the trip. Every pound of hydrocarbon aviation fuel that gets burned in flight is a pound that is no longer weighing the aircraft down. Good luck developing a battery-powered airliner with the load capacity and range of B777s or A350s.

Yeah, don’t think electric vehicles are going to be replacing gasoline power any time soon. Why else would 2 new gas stations have been built in my town inside of the last six months!

Scotty!!! A disabled friend needs your help with his ‘21 TOYOTA CAMRY! No codes, no check engine light, but when he’s driving on the highway with cruise control it was sometimes stutter or skip . It’s got 60K miles and has been doing it for a few thousand miles. Dealer said they can’t replicate. Wouldn’t a spark plug or coil pack throw a code? He bought the Camry to have forever and really relies on this car , what could the issue be? Thanks
Sorry but Scotty hasn't responded to comments for years. If you look at his videos from c. 2010, he would respond to nearly every comment. Not anymore.
Sometimes the check woman light goes on to demand attention...Yet under identical conditions she works great....and purrs like a kitten. Maybe I need a bigger scan tool.
No Scotty. You did not check the raw data. You just used your fancy scanner and went straight to the code. Did you test the fuel pump? Did you make sure the demand and duty cycle are good? Did you even check fuel pressure with new vs old relay?
c.e.l.s are indicators there's a problem(s). minor and / or serious. if c.e.l. starts flashing while driving, there's a serious problem, n need stop, n get mechanic(al) attention asap.
Yup...if My fuel pump starts going I do the relay too at the same time OEM sensors not the cheap auto store stuff. Esp knock and 02 sensors, learned the hard way
scotty need to go to the drag strip or go where you can get up to speed in a hurry. Two bernie’s fuel systems treatment. Bump up the octane mid grade. My grandfather what he did was bump up to premium as a clean me out go drive it get it it on the highway hard acceleration bad gas will do it to.
Some GM models have been notorious for bad fuel pump relays. The original relay just wasn't stout enough and they had to be replaced with more heavy duty relays. Sometimes they would even cause shorts in the fuse box or the fuel pump. The best way to tell is just to smell it and if it smells like burnt popcorn then you've got a problem on your hands.

@@DariusMcDonis Got that right. Strong and reliable. Still got 30mpg but old windows and seats and a nagging suspension issue was it's scrap ticket.
@@Derideo just a few maintenance things over 10 years. Nothing major
How long of an extension cord do you need on one of those electric planes?
Electric jet! No way I would EVER get on that. HA HA HA HA
Scotty, can you tell me if American mechanics are using oscilloscopes to diagnose automotive problems? If so, what’s the percentage of mechanics using it?
Thanks George V
"Don't take peoples words. Get the data." Sage advice for life.
So other than CEL on, water pump trans bad its fine.
Bet if you fix the cel problem it runs better than fine.
Always thought it was by design! The dealership makes a killing !😂😂😂
They already have electric planes in northern Europe, they are small, a few passengers and equipment, regular planes.
Nope. Ain't getting in one of those!
The best part of a car is the one with the least electronics. And its the manual transmission.
Hey scotty, why are you new toyota's blow so many engines? Why no videos?
I own an RVR 2023 and just recently found out it has a crappy cvt transmission: jatco something… anyways, other than driving smoothly and praying, what else can I do to keep the transmission safe and sound?Changing transmission oil more frequently helps with anything? Car has 18k km on it. Thank you
No way Scotty threw that Australia meme in there. Dude is a real one
My check engine light is always on..
I fixed it by covering it up with electrical tape. 😊
Yeah, don’t think electric vehicles are going to be replacing gasoline power any time soon. Why else would 2 new gas stations have been built in my town inside of the last six months!
These cars have a service engine sooon with same symbols as check engine
I’ve had emissions fail my brothers car when it wasn’t a check engine (it was oil change due!) service engine soon light!
I think ethanol is bad for fuel pumps.
You should see what it does to a carb that sits for awhile. Stuff is garbage!
Will rot reg fuel line/hose in no time
I haven't seen one of those Pontiacs in 15 years
Every time I watch a video from Scotty I notice the subscriber numbers..Seems to go up by 100,000 a week...
Thanks to Scottie, I was convinced to buy the Lexus IS 250
Sometimes the check woman light goes on to demand attention...Yet under identical conditions she works great....and purrs like a kitten. Maybe I need a bigger scan tool.
SCOTTYS THE BEST
I had a 1992 Grand Am with a V6. It was a great motor.
If it was the 3800 v6 then yeah those are good engines
they through the parts cannon for you
If there were ever a reprise to the movie, 'weekend at bernies', you need to look no further than this channel and do the math.
Weekend at scotty's?
😂 I thought Scotty was moving, AGAIN!
No Scotty. You did not check the raw data. You just used your fancy scanner and went straight to the code. Did you test the fuel pump? Did you make sure the demand and duty cycle are good? Did you even check fuel pressure with new vs old relay?
Scotty is old and doesn't like to do more work on a car for his videos than he has to.
I've never had an engine light go back off. Without unhooking the battery.
Good afternoon Scotty rainy day here in Ontario Canada🇨🇦
Check engine lights are for emissions.
c.e.l.s are indicators there's a problem(s). minor and / or serious.
if c.e.l. starts flashing while driving, there's a serious problem, n need stop, n get mechanic(al) attention asap.
Scotty rules.
I brought my old 05 GP GTP to Kilmer... He never showed it... Was bummed but.. Oh well.
GM is practicing Cartious Interruptous🤣🤣🤣🎉🎉🎉
Replaced 2o sensor po133 comming back any suggestions
Electric jets, what could go wrong?
Fuel pump pressure?....Fuel filter? I've been through the fuel pump replacement thing....not cheap!
Yup...if My fuel pump starts going I do the relay too at the same time
OEM sensors not the cheap auto store stuff. Esp knock and 02 sensors, learned the hard way
Well done...
My 2003 Buick Century ‘Service Engine Soon’ light has been on for about 9 years, and nothing will make it go off…..NOTHING!
the service technician SHOULD be able to turn it off...
but it might come right back on.
My car had the cylinder heads cleaned and timing belt, it's like a new car
How terrible is the news Scotty?
He's pissed and mad as hell.
🇺🇸Scotty 2024🇺🇸
Leaving RUclips?
Scotty, I completely disagree!!!! The problem isn't the misfire! The problem is that it's a GM vehicle
scotty need to go to the drag strip or go where you can get up to speed in a hurry. Two bernie’s fuel systems treatment. Bump up the octane mid grade. My grandfather what he did was bump up to premium as a clean me out go drive it get it it on the highway hard acceleration bad gas will do it to.
Electric jets? What are they going to do, put battery powered vacuum cleaner motors in them?
Would have ditched that car before spending money for new injectors.
