Thank you so much for this! I'm going to give it a try. I was hit by a car in 2019 and had an AFO that I stopped using about a year later but still needed a brace. I'm fine walking but if it's walking over 2hr (which is the norm here in NY) I feel my foot start to lag and I have to tell myself to lift it rather than it doing so on its own. I'm a travel and wildlife photographer so a stable foot is a necessity in my life not to mention just living in Manhattan. I'll be purchasing this one tonight and will look at some of your exercises. Thanks!
Thanks my foot flops down when I walk, also can’t push off.have a carbon AFO that works good but not comfortable all day.gonna try it .i tried a different kind and it wouldn’t hold my foot up ,or help me push off
I tried so many of the in the shoe braces. Some give great lift but my problems want getting my toes all the way in my shoe without my toes folding under. I can’t feel my toes so that’s a big problem.
Thank you so much for this video. My neuro recently suggested I look into getting a brace. My question to you: in your opinion is this brace best with a lace up shoe? Could it work in a lace up boot?
Hi! It would really depend on the shoe. I know it isn't ideal but I would try it on with all your shoes to find the best fit because as we all know finding that "perfect" fit is tough. I wear the AFO I am speaking about only with my sneakers, but I do love an ankle boot with a small heel as it helps me clear my foot.
@@DeStroy109 Sorry to hear that but honestly everyone with foot drop is different and Mariska just wanted to offer her opinion based off her over 25 years experience both as a practitioner and a patient. There used to be a kid in my school who wore an old style metal and leather brace that went through the heel of his right boot. It and his boot was beat up and Im thinking it lasted him a long time but probably weighed a lot He wore several different shoes on his left foot.
Disastrous video... product name or link even not mentioned. Even a single photo of splint is also not there... shooting vid from so much far away that nothing is visible...even the voice not clear.
That is because we are not endorsing a product, just sharing the personal experience from someone ACTUALLY living with foot drop. You can find the AFO here: a.co/d/dkF6Jct. Have a great day.
Great video. I wear an AFO. Also, I host a live podcast and wanted to see if you would like to be a guest on my show? Let's Talk Stroke on every social media platform? Jerry Thank you
Hey Jerry! I’d love to chat - you can reach us at info@theneurostudio.com! Also, check out @theneurostudio on instagram, we have a lot of stroke specific content.
Wearing a brace gives me a false sense of security. When I take the brace off I frequently snag my toe(s) and fall. I would rather not wear it, and have my brain learn my new foot position.
Sam - this video is just helping people find one that works for them as many are not able to walk without the increases sensory input the AFO offers. But as we describe in the video they often inhibit other movements which is why they should be worn in conjunction with a good movement practice.
@@mareellen63 that is very common as the brain will pick an alternative strategy to help you move forward. You can also try sensory socks, like the Naboso brand proprioceptive socks or insoles to give your feet feedback without wearing a shoe in addition to a good exercise program.
You can't learn to not drag your foot if you don't have the ability to lift your foot. Your brain learning your new foot position isn't going to help you not to snag your toes, that's going to happen anyway I can guarantee that. Wearing a brace doesn't give a false sense of security, it gives you actual security when wearing the brace. Of course when you take it off you're not going to have that security anymore.
Actually everybody with footdrop is different and it sounds like you are basing your comment off your unique experience. You are correct that a lot of people with foot drop also have excessive toe flexion (when the toes curl). The good news is there are things you can do to improve that and we offer a lot of different workouts to help. I personally have MS and have foot drop since 2002 and some days are better than others. I am simply sharing an AFO that really works for me and allows me to walk further distances as I am determined to not let my foot drop get worse. Have a great day!

Ugh, that is an issue. Have you tried toe separators throughout the day? We LOVE the Naboso brand and you can get 10% off with the code NEUROSTUDIO.

I doubt my foot would slide in, I have a very high arch and instep. I use external braces.

Which site I can get this foot drop equipment
We do not sell, just sharing info but it can be found on: a.co/d/b5A5w6f
Turbo Med by Xtern, by far the best drop foot brace. Fits outside the shoe. Expensive but worth every dime.
Thank you for sharing your opinion!!
Neither the xtern or this keeps my foot stiff enough on the upswing

I think a person with drop foot should model this one. A person with a healthy foot just can't speak to this AFO.
Hi! What a compliment that you didn't notice that I have footdrop. I have been living with MS since 2002 and walking can be very difficult.
I have foot drop due to a army injury. I am no recently getting into border patrol. What afo would be best for jogging?

Yeah... She's definitely tired of the regular braces "with hinges and sh!t." I'm happy for her.

Try step smart bro😊
Thanks me later 😊

When I don't have shoes on, I do what I call the model high step. I pick my foot up with every step. It is automatic since I've done it for so long.

The Naboso socks are too expensive. I've been taking Nervive for at least a year. I can feel my feet again.

Nope it doesn't work that way, people with footdrop can't just step into a shoe are toes curl
