@@JBulsa why would we cut out the first 2 minutes which focuses on the importance of toe flexion? Weakness in toe flexion can increase spasticity and will inhibit toe extension. Just working on toe extension is short sighted and often creates more dysfunction. Even if you get cramps or feel that your toes are stuck in toe flexion, you still need to improve the motor control and strengthen the entire range of motion to ultimately improve foot drop.
Yes you can overdue it so take your time and make sure you address your whole body not just the foot. Sadly more traditional methods focus too much on just lifting the foot and that can cause a little of discomfort and frustration.
@@theneurostudio_ Thank you for a very fast reply. How often should I exercise for drop foot. I also use a E.M.S. I have it 2 times a day for 1 hour each time. Is that ok? Really appreciate your input! 🙏🏻❤️👍🇺🇸
@@user-iw3mr2lv6f Hey. It really depends on what you are doing. At The Neuro Studio we feel the foot should be addressed in all exercises and you should work the foot in isolation but you also need to address what the rest of the body is doing when exercising the foot, especially the hip. To make a more personalized recommendation we would have to see you move, so you can email info@theneurostudio.com and we could set you up with an evaluation from one of our top level 3 teachers.
What do I do if the toes don't move up or down on their own unless I move them with my hands? I have peripheral neuropathy which is not due to diabetes but genetic since last 15 years and progressively worsening every year.
When I crinkle my left foots toes to pick something up they jerk uncontrollably. My physio therapist, dr. don't have answers, I'm waiting for a MRI. I also have prickling sensations and sometimes they feel like they are sunburnt!
We are sorry that you are experiencing that and sadly that could be steaming from a lot of different issues including neuropathy. Regardless of the diagnosis, it is important to address the strength and health of your feet and the rest of your body. Check out our workouts and tutorials for more options
Our co-founder Mariska has MS and foot drop so we have countless videos and labs with her and other clients with neuro conditions. Please understand that our clients deserve their privacy and we do not show them without their approval. You can see all of our paid content on our site and social media with neuro clients in action.
Great advice but not if you had drop foot for 4 years so far. You are using a person for demonstration that does not have a drop foot. Show me a person with drop trying to do those exercises.
Mitchell thanks for your message and if you follow us you will see one of our founders has MS and has foot drop since 2002. Meghann also has non-neuro foot drop from a bad accident. Both Meghann and Mariska have worked with countless people with foot drop and all our workouts are designed for them. If you check out our site you will find many other options because living with a neuro condition there is NEVER a one size fits all approach. Good luck and check out the other options or keep following us to find out ways to modify any exercise to address your neuro symptoms.
i just undergo an ankle surgery to fix my posterior ligament, but i ended up with foot droop condition, i can rotate my ankle but i can't lift up my toes it's frustrating and the doctor said he didn't do any mistake on the surgery..
Definitely start moving that foot again but also make sure you address your hips and the rest of the body so that it can fully support ankle movement. Slowly increase range of motion and don’t over stress or stretch the area!!!
Don't worry and even a little movement is great and using some assistance from your hands or a care giver. We have so many more options to help if these exercises aren't working for you. You can also enjoy a 14 day FREE trial: online.theneurostudio.com
Get someone who has a foot drop to demonstrate this. If one can do what you ask, he/she does not have a foot drop. It is so frustrating to see healthy people demonstrating exercises for handicapped people.
We agree and considering our co-founder has had MS for over 20 years and has foot drop, so she knows first hand how exercises can be difficult. However, this video is to help people understand where and what we are trying to achieve with each movement. This is important, as we are an education company to help movement pros offer better solutions for people living with neurological conditions. We have many videos on instagram and facebook with our client’s but many of them do not want to be featured on social media and RUclips, which we respect!
Do not worry, but you will want to slowly learn how. Without seeing your foot or movement I can’t give specifics but you can try by elevating the toes higher with a towel so you can work on lowering the toes to the towel instead of the floor. OR you can use your hands or have someone else (if you can’t reach) and assist the toe movement and still try to lower them but use the hands to offset the weight of the toes.
