This is a good idea for late war reenactments, as by that point in the war, no one cared, and if you could make something to help you, then you made it.
Crude melee weapons
Crude camouflage
Crude everything. So it doesn't have to look professional, and I would believe that soldiers actually tried this. Maybe not a fun suit, but different types of camouflage
