  • Finally got the sled to the point where I can test it manually and it works awesome. Still have some finishing up to do but it's definitely a winner and catches almost all the chips and dust. Getting it under auto control will probably be a fall project.
Here are some Amazon links to parts that seem to work well
This is the insert bit I purchased amzn.to/38EHzxN
    The pulse generators amzn.to/3EdLkpG
    The low current steppers amzn.to/38R3jXv
    The stepper brackets amzn.to/3KHoucs
The cheap drivers that are a grab bag but work amzn.to/3KYGijH
The $22.00 dust shoe (currently out of stock) amzn.to/3jFdn88
    The belts amzn.to/3JUWQrv
    The belt drive pulleys amzn.to/3jBf1aM
    The 2.2 kw VFD amzn.to/37horFS
    The spindle clamp amzn.to/3OeVGtW
    2020 extrusions amzn.to/3KJFLlo
The 2200mm rails ( sold out after first video) amzn.to/3O9SgbX
The 2.2 kw air cooled 4 bearing Vevor spindle came from EBay and has sold out after my first video from what I can tell.

You have such a vast assortment of incredible skills and are a wealth of precision, experience and knowledge. In olden days, you would have been surrounded by apprentices who would spend years learning under your tutelage. I sure hope your grand kids get interested in tapping into this precious opportunity when they get older. They are so blessed to have such talented grandparents.

Thanks. over the years I had many youngsters working under me that I trained. The grandkids have zero interest in making anything so far. They live in a world where you just need the newest phone and game console to be happy. We are picking 2 of them up for a couple day visit this morning and they have many options to try new things at our house. We do not give them wifi access so that helps keep them away from the world they live in at home. My youngest grandson has been enjoying target practice in the back yard with me lately so its a easy way to teach him gun safely and enjoy time together. My wife will be giving our granddaughter cooking and bun baking lessons. It's always a fun time when they come over. Happy Easter. Thanks for watching.

Cutting in 2 directions will leave a slight step.
If the Router isn't exactly perpendicular to the work table, steps will happen. They get exaggerated with bigger cutter diameters.
Great build. I found it very interesting.
I want to build 1 myself.
    Thanks for the great content.

Its flat but visible. i think part of it is like when you rub a carpet in 2 different directions. The lines are visible. With the wood , especially softer wood has the grain torn in different directions. carbide cutters really are not very sharp and do a lot of tearing. It's a easy way to control dust while surfacing a slab without investing much. Thanks for watching.

Great job, thanks for posting your process! For engaging the travel along the long rails - Instead of using two motors with two timing belts, what are your thoughts on using single motor powering a shaft with worm gear attachments on both ends, engaging pinion gears on the shafts of two acme power screws (one per long rail) ?
