I am an old Christian who grew up in a Baptist church. Because of preachers like you, I was deeply distressed and left the church. You and they have forgotten the principle "Love is the greatest thing."
You're afraid people will confuse the Bible with the movie. But you're forgetting that millions like me came back to faith because of the series. I left her because of you. The series made me curious about the Bible again. That's why I support "The Chosen" as much as I can.
Are you like Shmuel? I pray for you!

Jesus did not want us living in fear. I do not believe he would approve of some movements or denominations that have been formed in his name. The opulence of the Vatican is one example that springs to mind. His "demands" were simple - be kind, treat others as you would like to be treated, do not judge, forgive, pray, be thankful.

Him meeting Mary was special to me rather than seeing how it was unbiblical, I related it to how familiar that was to how Jesus found me. He called me out from the noise that was my past life and he spoke to me on a personal level. It made me tear up because it was true, that’s how Jesus called all of us. It doesn’t matter where we were in the bar like she was, in the darkest alley or in our bedroom, he will be there, there just for us.
And it reminds me of the verse, Psalm 139:8 …If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. It doesn’t matter where we are, he will come there to find us. That’s his love for us.
And I think that’s what the show was portraying rather than trying to replace the Bible.

I've read many comments on The Chosen by unbelievers and believers who've watched it and said it has inspired them to start reading their Bibles. As the scripture states "a winner of souls must be wise." There are some people who are never going to darken the doors of a church or watch a RUclips video of a pastor preaching a sermon. As soon as they see it is church-related, they're going to head the other way; but The Chosen at least attracts them and they get introduced to who Jesus is. I've read testimonies of people who have come to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior through this series. When they start reading their Bibles they will come to develop a relationship with Jesus which is what it is all about...not religion.
Also to I'd like to add that showing Peter kissing his wife was not sinful imo. That scene humanized him. The vast majority of biblical movies make Jesus, his Apostles and disciples so unrelatable. They were flesh and blood. They laughed, talked, smiled, had senses of humor, argued, had disagreements, wives (except Jesus); and guess what...they ate and drank, used the toilet, and had sex with their spouses...go figure...THEY WERE HUMAN!

I really hate to say it but from the beginning it looked like you were going into this looking for things to complain about. We all know that the disciples and other characters had some sort of backstory from before they met Jesus and showed up in the scriptures, so what is the problem with writing a plausible backstory for these characters when making a drama series. We know Nicodemus had to have been hearing or seeing things that ended up with him requesting to meet with Jesus by night. Same with Matthew, for to have Jesus say a few words to him and he drops everything to follow. Something must have been going on under that fig tree with Nathanael. They are filming a show, you need to give people context, you can’t just have character pop up out of nowhere and expect it to make a good tv show. The reaction to them showing a married couple simply kiss was a bit much. The point of the whole Mary and the soldier and her father dying, was to show how broken she was, the traumas that could have left the void that allowed for the possession. The point of these backstories is for people to relate to the characters and their struggles, to see they were real people like us and if Jesus was the answer they needed, He will be ours. The show is meant to draw people to Jesus and to reading the Bible and it is accomplishing just that. The Chosen is not the Bible, it’s not meant to replace the Bible, it’s not a word for word retelling of scripture, it is historical dramas based on the Bible. The Chosen isn’t confusing anyone about the gospel message, which is the part that matters most, someone thinking all the backstories are fact before they learn differently isn’t as important as the true gospel message.

“The Chosen” has helped me and I think this outside thought of it might change your mind a bit… I spent roughly 20 years practicing paganism as my religion. A couple months ago I had a health scare that made me think about my mortality and what happens after. I cried to my Gods at the time for help and answers, I never got any response. I started questioning my religion more and more, realizing my religion didn’t really have a happy ending. I talked to some friends one in particular that is a very good Christian, he knew my religion and never judged me on it… instead waited til I was ready and brought me to church with him. During this process another friend told me to watch “The Chosen” and I fell in love with the show, understanding it was just a show and they had to add drama to make it entertaining it also made me pick up the Bible and read it. I was so amazed reading through the Gospels and understanding what happened. The reason “The Chosen” helped with that is because it’s hard to imagine how life was back then, this show put context of how life was into my mind as I read so I could picture what was happening more clearly as I read it. I now go to church every Sunday, read the bible almost daily and bring my family to church… I’m far from perfect, but I continue to improve and walk with Jesus and God in my heart.

I like that you don’t think it’s right for a pastor to change the Bible to make it more interesting, no one should. And I also don’t think they changed the Bible for this show. I myself cannot Imagine how hard it must have been for someone to have 7 demons inside of them. Neither do we know the exact things Niccodemus saw but we know he saw things that made him have the inner conflict… the Bible states those things but doesn’t linger on them. This movie doesn’t change the Bible it just adds creative liberties to those things the Bible already states. And that’s how I like to read my Bible, the man that hid in the cave cutting himself before Jesus saved him, sometimes I cry thinking about how much suffering he had to endure for years, same thing with the woman with the issue of blood I just think about if my sisters or mother went through that for years and how horrible it would feel living everyday like that. The Bible doesn’t tell us about their family and their daily struggles but it is not a sin neither is it wrong for us to ponder in our minds and imagine what it must have been for them. And that’s how I see this movie, things the Bible states it just adds to it and tries to let us imagine how it must have been having 7 demons or how amazing Mary must have felt being free from them.
And I think we should see the message and stop mentioning how it’s so different from the Bible, especially when it was stated that it’s different in the beginning.

I think all artistic licence was masterfully done and enriched the story, making it more accessible to the general public while still staying true to the 'spirit' of the scriptures. Humanising Mary and other characters including Jesus was a good move.

  • @iluvrolaz
    @iluvrolaz 11 месяцев назад +7

Remember the print at the beginning that said they've added made up background stories for characters as well as added made up characters etc??? It IS EXACTLY for that reason: to HUMANIZE them for us, n make them relatable... they flat out tell us up front, n are very clear that the show is NOT a replacement for reading the gospels, n encourage everyone to do so, which, it is doing an AMAZING job at that, I speak from personal experience myself, n there are literally MILLIONS others who say the same thing...
Their constant line of thinking is "is this plausible", not is it known or written etc... as long as they don't detract from the truth of the gospels, they take creative license with backgrounds etc... just relax n watch n enjoy, n you'll see what I mean n I have no doubt you'll love it!

Why is it problematic that the pastor is pointing out the negatives? You say you can respect other opinions but don't have to agree with them, if anything it sounds like you can't respect his opinions or agree with them. If you respected his opinions you wouldn't feel the need to say he needs enlightenment, or that he's in bad taste or that he's problematic. You could simply express your opinion and say you don't agree with him instead you went straight to diminishing this pastors opinions.

I understand why some people say don’t watch this show. But I have to have a knee jerk reaction and say this:
Dallas Jenkins states before the first scene shows up, that this show is not to be replacing scripture. This is a story with plausible backstory when scripture doesn’t tell us. If you watch this show, make sure to stay in the Bible too. This is not to replace Truth.
With that said, if you begin to believe that The Chosen is more factual than what the Bible shows, then that is wrong.
Stay in the scriptures. Make that priority #1. Then watch the Chosen as entertainment.
The Chosen is a visual representation of what scripture tells us, and anything else that is not in scripture, take as a grain of salt, and know that Dallas make these stories as plausible as possible because the Bible doesn’t show us these things. Dallas still has to make a show.
And finally, if your Bible history is not where is should be, then don’t watch the show. Make knowledge of the Bible first, and this show an afterthought. ❤

Make knowledge of the bible first. This is a one sided view. There are going to be a lot of people that know nothing about the faith. This is an elitist view. That you should already know about god and the belief in god. Why is it all religious people go straight to condeming any form of entertainment that brings god to the light where you will be curious enough to go to find truth. Isn't it better to applaud a tool that brings god to light then the pastor can set them on the path of truth. Then condem even an attempt? There are pagan people that stumble onto the chosen then consider learning more about god. They will never see or attempt a bible, because they have no clue. But because of christian entertainment, will consider going to a denomination that sets them to the truth. Everyone is so judgemental. Christian Elites. I'm sure thats how god wants faith; to be so afraid to even attempt it and fail, that they don't even try. Bravo.

You have your opinions. But I think you forgot that the beginning said they took artistic liberties for the show. Now here’s a fact. This show has brought more people to God, and reading the Bible, then you ever had. Or, ever would. If it was straight scripture, it wouldn’t hit people like it does. Maybe you should be a little more thankful that it has brought so many people to the Lord. God bless you.

First off - I want to apologize for the long post. I never intended it to be this long but I guess I had a lot to say. :D
Second - I do not want to come across as angry or rude in any way but what I'm talking about are things I disagree with what you said at the end of your video. So that may be hard to avoid.
My pre-summary is: Extra-Biblical does not mean Anti-Biblical.
I never stop being amazed at how some people seen to have a "need" to dislike The Chosen. So far I've never heard of a single legitamet reason as to why they don't like the show. The reasons presented in this video seemed very weak to me:
    1) There are things in the show that are not in the Bible:
The TV show never says it's a 100% accurate telling of the Gospel. In fact, the PURPOSE of the TV show is to add information, characters and dialogue to the Gospel story to create s narative story which tells the story of the Gospel.
The first thing shown in Episode 1 is a statement which makes this clear:
    ----------------------
The Chosen is based on the true stories of the gospels of Jesus Christ. Some locations and timelines have been combined or condensed. Backstories and some charcters or dialogue have been added.
However, all biblical and historical context and any artistic imagination are designed to support the truth and intention of the Scriptures. Viewers are encouraged to read the gospels.
The original names, locations and phrases have been transliterated into English for anything spoken.
    ----------------------
    2) People watching this show will think things shown in the show are also in the Bible:
This is NOT an argument about the TV show. This argument is about people not including The Bible as the #1 basis for all information they get from other sources.
It doesn't matter if people get their information from this TV show, from Christian radio programs, from TV Evangelists or from books by some of the greats such as C. S. Lewis. If you do not include the Bible as your #1 basis to judge all other information by you are doing it wrong.
The TV show is not at fault if someone ignores Biblical reading. The TV shows makes it clear in their opening statement that they are adding and adjusting content to create a story. AND the statement encourages people to read the gospels.
    3) You mentioned comparing the Lord's power to Star Wars as if it's The Force... What?
Since this is a reaction to Episode 1 I'm assuming this is what you are talking about. I'm so confused by this comment that I'm just assuming you are referring to the Jesus and Mary scene which is ONLY the last 2 minutes of this episode.
    a) Jesus knowing Mary's real name when she's been referred to as Lilith by others. Again, I don't see an issue with Jesus knowing her real name and this also doesn't seem like Star Wars type power.
    b) Jesus reciting scripture, the very scripture we see Mary was taught by her Father since she was a little girl. Again, not very Star Wars like.
    c) Casting out of demons. Did that even happen in this scene? They don't specifically show demons being cast out, you can assume that's what happens because Mary breaks down and cries but it's not clear. She was suicidal and obviously emotional the whole time.
BUT, let's assume that's when Jesus did cast out the demons. What's the problem? How was this Star Wars like? Personally I have zero issue thinking the Son of God can just think that demons should leave someone and they will go.
Considering the Bible tells of Jesus walking on the water, raising the dead, healing the blind and crippled I don't find anything that happened in Episode 1 to be like Star Wars.
I've seen all 3 seasons of The Chosen and absolutely love it. It's encouraged me to read the Bible even more and I've seen many others say the same. Now, if the show ever comes out with a single bit of information that goes AGAINST the Bible I'll stop watching the show immediately. But presenting information not in the Bible doesn't make that Anti-Biblical. There is a big difference.

You do not know what caused Mary to have demons. They are not changing the Bible, they are providing back stories for people to help them picture the time, ministry, and power of Jesus. Personally, this show has sent me to reading and rereading the gospels. Avoid myopia when new methods of proclaiming the gospels are shared. The writers, director, and many of the actors are trying to open people's minds and hearts to Jesus, to help them see, hear, and feel the power of the message of Jesus. Mark 9:38-40

  • @NR-cq6uu
    @NR-cq6uu Год назад +4

here's the problem you're going to have as a pastor. Since they dont teach about god anymore. Believers will not find you unless they stumble upon entertainment like the Chosen sometimes. Do you honestly believe those that do not know what they are missing are going to come you and you're going to have more impact then a show that you can easily watch. Get lost in and from there find god. How about you appreciate a show that is more understandable then the bible, because let's face it. The bible *IS* difficult sometimes and does need a minister to interpret, but you honestly think someone out of the clear blue that has no direction in god is going to go. You know what. I'm just gonna go to church. Shouldn't all forms of avenues be praised? I just dont get it.

You're looking at this the wrong way. Obviously they couldn't do everything perfectly to a T and make it make sense for people in an episodic format. But if it brings new faith in and leads them to scripture. Then I don't see the problem. You may have to change how you teach but so what.
Also about the actors kissing. They're playing a part that I'm sure they agreed to. It's not a sin. This is what gives us a bad name. It makes me think that you would say "no holding hands before marriage". It's not that deep.

I agree that it is not strictly Biblical, but.............If it creates interest from those who have not read, let along understand, the language in the Bible then I see no huge fault. I found the humanization of His followers interesting but still believe there is no replacement for actual reading.

Jesus casts out demons with absolute ease. Demons fear God with all their being he need merely utter a command and they flee. We know this.
Humans need the utmost faith and training to cast out demons, and even then it takes a lot of time and effort, and in the end it is only God working through them that casts out the demon. The Lord himself having direct contact with Mary would immediately cast them out.
The Jedi/force analogy is not totally out of bounds considering the supernatural power of the Lord.

Interesting. I wonder if this pastor would consider doing a similar critique of “The Passion,” which for as well done as it was, was not biblically accurate in several places.
I also wonder if he teaches in an “expository” manner, which would be to interpret and expound on the scriptures rather than just read the bible from the pulpit…

Wow! Your biggest worry is the extra “work” “undoing”. The artistic nuances of a TV show that never claimed to be a verse-by-verse biblical documentary?
    That’s your issue?
Not the fact that this show may have been the very reason folks walked through the doors of your church curious about Christ in the first place?
And exactly what was wong with the last “Star Wars” scene anyway? Luke 8:2 doesn’t say who exactly cast the 7 demons out of Mary or how it was done. Does that automatically make this scene wrong? How? Is there another gospel Baptist use outside the main four we don’t know about?
My understand, there are only four. But I’m open to where you’re getting this conclusion of this being off the mark. Book, chapter and verse would be greatly appreciated. If you could also include which Star Wars scene the Chosen ripped off of, that be great too.

I started watching the series last Summer (end of July/August of 2023). the 1st episode I watched was Episode 4/Season 2...the only reason I even took the time to watch the series in the 1st place was that someone had OPENLY condemned it as a un-Biblical. I don't TRUST folks (like you) who tell me to beware of certain Religious programs. WHY? Because I recall as a teen when the mini-series by Franco Zeffereli-"JESUS OF NAZARETH" came out and was condemned as heresy by BOB JONES. Remember Bob Jones.?????..(of Bob Jones University?) Many commercial companies (I think Proctor & Gamble were one of them) pulled their support of the film...basically cutting off their commercials. Somehow the series was able to go on, since a car company went ahead and paid for the series to be show...and turned out to be a big hit and very successful. I LIKE the series...and have continued to watch it.
You have to understand...this series has brought back young people (GEN Z) etc to God. My cousin who was an atheist has started reading the Bible because of this show. More and more these days I (who use to watch the preaching of Robert Morris and Tony Evans) have discovered that Christian clergy cannot be trusted...I look at most of you as Modern day Pharisees. How does it feel to be referred to as a PHARISEE!???

The devil is always in the details.
Luke 8:1-2, doesn't say whether or not Jesus cast out the demons from Mary Magdalene. But, that the demons left her. Since the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and so on, are written from the observations and revelations of the disciples, and it is quite possible that it was a miracle Jesus performed on Mary that the disciples had not witnessed. Luke obviously saw a change in her that he felt it necessary to document.
The Bible, also doesn't say Jesus went to relieve himself after drinking water, or eating food. So, shall we say that Jesus never had a full bladder, or bowls to relieve? It is not written. So it did not happen?
It is not the place of Man, to rule keep. For we do not know the hearts of others. It can also be possible that the writers had revelation from the Holy Spirit, regarding the story. So to inspire people to seek the bible.
God bless us all, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Alright, we don't see her interaction with Nicodemus in the Bible. But that's not a problem. They are conencting two stories, with a purpose in mind. It doesnt hurt any biblical principles to imagine he did try to exorcise her.
As for your criticism of "acting romance". You have a point. Since they are not married in real life, no point in showing to much intimacy. But again, this does not disqualify the whole show.
There is ZERO dangers in trying to "humanize" a human character. What? You think the apostles were big-bearded monks with halos around their heads? You think it's bad to "humanize" Mary Magdalene?
Also, if you really do have experience with exorcism, you know very well the types of things that happen on peoples lives of those who get demonizes. Abuse, trauma and pain are frequently present in their life's story. You should think with your head, not your heart, that is deceitfully wicked.
I'm glad you enjoyed their humanization of Nicodemus at least, lol.
When you made that angry face during Mary's redemption scene... Man, I remembered the pharisses calling Jesus's ministry "of the Devil", which was an unforgivable sin, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
I'm obviously not saying you did that. But man, this is a hard heart who does not appreciate that scene in its context.
Also, people not knowing their bibles was a problem far before The Chosen, and it will continue to be so. It's not the series fault.
"This is not Bible" you said at the beggining. Yes, you read the disclaimer. Everyone did.

Can I assume from your critique that when you do a sermon, you simply stand at the podium, read scripture, close the book, and are done?
Or do you explain the nuances of those scriptures and how they affect our lives. How the people of the time were impacted.
The Chosen is providing back story to people in the Bible. Stories about their everyday lives and daily struggles. They had to work, maintain homes, pay exhorbitant taxes, had relationships, just like we do today.
Like others have said, thousands, if not millions, myself included, have been brought closer to God and Jesus through this series.
Dallas Jenkins, creator, co-writer, and director of The Chosen, has many videos addressing the issues some people have, and explaining the motivation behind creating the series.
Maybe it would help you to see some of those.
To be so incensed over the portrayal of a young married couple sharing affection seems juvenile to me.

The Chosen brought more people to Christ than you. So think about it. And many other pastors felt OK with this way of presenting Jesus. The biblical core wasn't t twisted. Just the unknown happenings behind it. I wonder why no church came up to tell the story this way. Perhaps they would t lose so much member all around the world.

"We will see all things as he sees them". I believe this backs up why so much about multiverse theory mathematics work. Infinate. Always has been and always will be. All things are possible. Science mathematics are scratching the surface of possibility as it relates to the infinite.

Yes. Because it's far better to condemn finding god, then to actually applaud or bring god to the unenlightened. They no longer teach about god or christianity anymore. That is the assumption you already have a Christian background; that is assuming the bible is popular enough to attempt a try. In this day in age. It is far greater the youth find the chosen then from there attempt the bible or find this so called Pastor. Cause let's be honest, the bible is kind of a big book. What's this to say to people that are even new to faith or did not consider faith before. Go straight to the bible? Do we only learn one way? Are we judging how people should find the faith. It's not like they watch the chosen and that's it. It can go from that to the bible to the church to other means and activies. Anywayz....

It's easy to condemn then praise. Keeping people like me away from it by giving reasons not to watch is just a sin. They did say artistic interpretation. Didn't they? Sorry pastor but you don't see it for the way and intent it has.

Further to my comment below, as I said in my video, since we have to compete with Hollywood blockbusters today, a scene like Jesus walking on water was something I felt they had to do. What you said about science fiction leads me to offer you another video showing how much of it is drawn from Judeo-Christian themes. I would welcome your opinion there as well. ruclips.net/video/QXoaCmihcL0/видео.html
This particular video is not aimed at a Christian audience and I do not take a doom and gloom "Hollywood's out to steal your children" attitude. I am trying to reach sci-fi fans by showing them what they're looking for in FICTION they can find in the truths of the Bible.

I’m not here to cause division. I just want people to understand that Dallas isn’t adding to scripture. He is making a plausible storyline when scripture gives none.
And first and foremost, make sure you know your Bible first before watching the show. So you know what is historical and what is the writer’s intentional imagination to create a beautiful story that ends with real historical events of Jesus.
Dallas says quote, “remember that The Chosen is "not a verse-by-verse reenactment of the Biblical narrative," but instead a "historical, character drama" that is inspired by the Bible.”
Does this make sense Pastor Chae?

I am a born again Christian. I left God before because of all the judgement they voice about others. I saw No change for the better. They act righteous and judge others by their lifestyle and say they can because Jesus says so. Now that I am born again, I am helping others and I gave up witchcraft for good. The Chosen helped me do that. It really did. I will NOT judge others. I will help others especially to Christ. I don’t care if they are the forgotten or hated by society. I decided to let God judge, not me. I will not tell someone they are going to Hell. However, I will tell them the words of Christ. Especially, how he loves them. Christians automatically tell ppl that the down fallen are bound to hell. Why do we do that? Love is the key. Let’s do things together and different. The same is not working and it’s leading ppl away from God. Let’s do better please.

Right now you are ministering to a generation of people who are completely uninterested by the gospel. Right now you are ministering to people who would prefer to listen to any other message, and when the Lord your God provides a way for people to become really interested in the gospel, you say that it is not good enough, because logical gaps in the stories are filled.
Do not call what God called clean unclean. Your fears are baseless, and more importantly, get in the way of the actual sharing of the Gospel. No one's salvation is going to be lost over a confusion of Mary Magdalene. Your opinions seem to be focused on inflating your ego rather than saving souls.

@pastorjohnny Part of our mission as christians is to evangelize. The chosen has been seen by hundreds of millions of people. They clearly state to turn to the scripture and that they are adding some content. Instead of understanding that, my impression was that because something was not exactly in scripture, it was blasphemous.
I personally like the chosen. I have seen many people claiming that it helped renew their faith, and they began reading the Bible again. In this day in age, I believe we must get the word of the lord out there. If that means creating a show they helps spread our lords message, then so be it. If we strictly stick to the idea that we cannot talk about our lord unless we are quoting scripture, then I worry about the future.
I want to finish out while I did criticize I am not indicating I am a better person. We are all flawed and sinful, and only thru our lords mercy and love can we be redeemed. I appreciate that you have devoted your life to the service of God and your fellow man. Just try and keep an open mind, and God bless!

Do you not belive pastiors these days should cast out demons well if you don't then you should Jesus gave his people who are covered by the blood of Jesus power to cast out demons so if a pastor is turning away someone who is possessed by demons that is so wrong because by anyone refusing to do that then that is a lost soul you are neglecting a pastor should cast the demons out and then ask the person to repent and give their heart to Jesus Jesus said I will give my people which are us who are Christians power to cast out demons and heal the sick and where I used to go to church the preacherdid cast out demons out of a woman and it was real I seen it with my own eyes but I'm here to tell you this to anyone who is reading this if you are not covered by the blood of Jesus do not go around casting out demons but if you are covered by the blood of Jesus cast them demons out of people and pray with them to ask for forgiveness and to become a child of Jesus Christ❤❤❤❤
